Overall, we had a very positive experience with Turfland. We worked with Alex on our initial consult. He was able to let us see and feel the different types of turf and I liked the fact their turf had a very lengthy 18 year warranty. He also talked through all the things his crew would do to prep the ground and base, including removal of a lot of roots from vines. His quote was detailed and very price competitive. His team did high quality work and they honored their quote even though they did experience some unforeseen challenges with some bigger roots they encountered. There were some minor communication issues between Alex, his supervisor for the project and the crew foreman, which required me to intervene to ensure things were getting installed as planned. It took them an extra day to complete because the weather was rainy but overall my experience with his team was very good and the end product is living up to my expectations. I would give zero stars if I could, but I didn't have that option. I have been a property manager on golf courses in the desert and Beverly Hills as well as the Los Angeles area for over 20 years. My clients hired Turf land six months ago to do a 4000 ft.² backyard turf install. Within a month the gardener and I began noticing the turf was coming up and loose everywhere. We contacted Alex several times to come and fix and observe this unfortunate condition. Not only did he not come, but he did not send anyone over or return our calls. My company and I kept calling and finally he sends over one worker to look at the job. The worker did not speak English, and he said that he would come back and glue it down. In the meantime, we had another company come and give us an estimate and review the job. He said they did not use the right glue, they did not use the right nails, they did not use the right sand or do proper foundation for this install and we would continue to have problems. We called Alex again. He did not respond. After another couple of weeks he sent over another non-English speaking worker. They took video and pictures. They spoke with my Spanish worker and said that they would consult with Alex and that the wrong glue was used and it would take a couple weeks to order the right glue to glue it down but there was more than just glue. Nails were coming up all over the property, and there was severe shrinkage of 4 inch gaps between the stone and the turf. As you can see in the photos. It has now been six months and they informed us that we could no longer contact Alex. My boss said she hired Alex winning the bid out of several bids for this huge job because he said he lived in the neighborhood and could be right over if anything were to come up. We were informed by an answering service that we were no longer allowed to contact Alex in anyway. That he was out of the country and unable to be reached and they assigned us to an unknown person to attend to this issue. No one has ever gotten back to us. They leave me or my company a text and say they are showing up, but they never do. We are now hiring another company and sending them the bill. Hopefully this doesn't go into legal action but will if necessary. read more

I recently hired Turfland. They performed exceptionally well. I found Alex to be a conscientious, very hands-on guy who came up with some great designs and exceeded my expectations. There were a few issues with sprinklers and some small corners cut, but I think that was from individual workers forgetting small areas or details. There was some debris left outside that I am sure Alex would have addressed had he known. I would suggest doing a full walk-through to give him a chance to address any small concerns. I am confident he would handle any issues. Overall, the price was competitive (not cheap), and the quality and professionalism were top-notch. I would easily recommend them to others. Saddens me to write this two star review, but there isn't much of a choice. We had a small putting green installed (approx 300 sqft) with Turfland earlier this year. First off the good: - Alex and team are mostly good and friendly people. They're trying their best and I believe they'd like to run a successful business. They just aren't as professional as they should be at this point. - The initial cosmetics of putting green were solid - shaping, materials are acceptable. But that's about where this positive story ends. The bad: - Installation took 4 days instead of 1. The wrong size or materials were ordered on two separate occasions, the team couldn't figure out how to adhere the turf to a cement section, and two repairs after the initial install were done. - The foundation was poorly installed. 6 days after install, there were air pockets/bumpy surfaces showing on the turf. Turfland did repair, the same pockets appeared within days after the second try, and they refused to repair further. - Weed barrier wasn't properly installed. When the second repair crew came, the weed barrier was crumpled up under the turf and not properly laid flat or secured. - An invasive weed was not caught during the initial consultation. We have a weed that is not covered for repairs (according to their T's & C's). This should be inspected for, or at a minimum, made VERY clear that a type of weed isn't covered during initial consultation. Weeds showed up on the inside portion of the putting green within days of install. Turfland only offered to try again and solve this for an additional $1,800. I offered them several chances to make this right and they have refused, insisting they're losing money on the project and can't cover the expense (unfortunate but not the client's burden). Overall, I would reiterate these are mostly good people. However, I wouldn't describe these as turf experts. If you're spending a decent amount of money on a project, best to go with a crew that has decades of experience and stands by the quality of their work. I would be happy to update my review if they reach out to remedy. My advice to prospective or current clients - Withhold final payment until the invoice deadline. If you have a pending invoice, they're very attentive. Once you've paid in full, you're dead to them. read more
