There are a handful of brunch spots in the burbs that are worth waiting in a line for over 20 minutes. I'm absolutely open to waiting in a line for a good brunch. I'll wait nearly an hour at places like The Kettle, Sabrina's, Ardmore Station Cafe, and Nudy's (restricted to Main LIne restaurants not taking brunch reservations). Turning Point is NOT worth waiting more than 15 minutes in a line to be seated. The food and service are mediocre at best. We waited in line 40 minutes. It took 15 minutes to order our drinks after being seated, and another 15 minutes before we got them. All in all, it took 45 minutes before we had food in front of us. I had the Wilbur Skillet, and my bf had a french toast. We have had far better of both items at diners and pancake houses. These dishes were okay, but left us feeling duped for standing in line 40 minutes at this "oh so great brunch establishment." Service was friendly but really slow. The interior is lovely. They have outdoor seating (it seems, only if they have enough staff) on warm days. They also use a seating app, so be sure to call ahead or use this app and you *might* have an under-30 minute wait. But really, rather than waiting in a ridiculous line for a mediocre experience, head to another establishment nearby (Mainline Bistro & Creperie, Gryphon) or farther away (see list of worthwhile-waits-in-the-burbs above). read more

The staff is great and the prices are pretty fair. The wait was about 45 minutes during peak brunch hours and they text you when your table's almost ready, which is convenient. I thought the food was just OK. I had half avocado toast and half butternut squash soup since I wasn't feeling very well. The soup was great! The toast was pretty soggy though. My dining companion liked his huevos rancheros, but I don't think he was over the moon about them. So, 3/5 seems to be the consensus. read more

When in the mood to go out for breakfast, I was deciding between the two new Main Line restaurants. First Watch and Turning Point. I decided to go with Turning Point. Turning Point is located in the New Bryn Mawr Village, which is also home to Athleta and Blue Mercury. When walking in I was greeted by the sight of a couple parties waiting in the door way. Upon asking I learned that I had to wait up to 20 minutes until I would be seated. In the meantime I got my car washed across the street. I would definitely recommend that due to the long waits. Plus, they do a great job. I went with a large fresh-squeezed orange juice. It was fresh and sweep. It was definitely fresh-squeezed. It had the perfect amount of pulp as well. However, it was tiny for what was called a "large." They also had Premium hot chocolates and fresh smoothies. I got the tropical waffle as well. It came out smelling like it was just made. It was covered with powdered sugar and fresh fruit including strawberries, pineapple and bananas. The waffle itself was the best part. It was fluffy, airy and full of flavor. The waitress Laura, was nice, but a little too personable. A quick note is that Turning Point is doing a fundraiser for a charity. They also have a "germ-free" handle in the bathrooms. read more

Some friends and I decided last minute to grab breakfast together on a Saturday morning. We called breakfast places in the area to see if they could accommodate 6 of us around 11:30, and Turning Point ensured they could. So that basically made our decision for us. When we were there on that Saturday morning, it was oddly not busy. We didn't even need our reservation. We were sat quickly, however after that the service was much slower. Our waitress gave us more time after we didn't know what we were ordering when she first stopped by. But she gave us almost too much time, leaving us antsy and a little confused as to when she would come back. Our food came out in a normal amount of time though. Usually I am not a breakfast sandwich girl but for some reason it was calling my name that morning. I got the Classic Pork Roll Sammy with a side salad. The presentation is pretty poor but I thought my food was decent. The salad dressing was not evenly mixed but that was something I could take care of. I was pleased with my decision to get the salad over the potatoes as the side because my friend's potatoes didn't look crispy or seasoned. My dish was pretty inexpensive too. The waitress was kind to split up out checks at the end and did not rush us out. Came here for breakfast with a friend. If I had checked out the reviews before coming here, I probably would not have came. But, thankfully we had a good experience. The atmosphere here is quite nice, very light, airy, and open. I ordered the grand french toast. This is a delicious, brioche french toast. It also comes with a side of fruit. I like that they give you real maple syrup. My friend and I also shared an order of the french press coffee. It probably comes with 3 cups worth in it. The coffee was really good too. This is my second review of this brand but a different location. In my first review, I talked about getting the wrong order during my experience so I tried another spot. This one is in a shopping center with other businesses. It was pretty quite and my family was literally the third party inside. With Covid, of course masks are required inside, there's some signage about how to get a table outside the door and the menu is scannable with a QR code. The gentleman who was our waiter was great. I didn't catch his name but he was a great help. Service was pretty quick since it wasn't much going on. My husbands food great. He got the Salted Caramel Waffle and Avocado Artisan Toast. I tried the Quinoa bowl. My food was good until I realized how spicy it was. It was a good thing I had Ranch and some avocado to cut down on the heat. I should have gotten the waffle because it was great! Overall, it wasn't an awful experience. Just little things like too much heat in my food that took away from it being great. So glad to have found this gem. Beautifully decorated and clean inside. Nice selection on the menu. As your walking by the tables you can tell this is not an ordinary breakfast place. Everything is kicked up a notch. For entrees we ordered avocado toast with side of eggs, chicken pesto panini, egg white omelette and cheese and bacon omelette. Everyone enjoyed their meals. Hash browns have a little kick to them which I liked and the menu does say that. Omelette with cheese and bacon had plenty of both and perfectly cooked( not over cooked). Service was excellent. Anything we asked for was addressed immediately and in an effortless manner. Never once felt like we were an imposition with any request. Happened to meet the general manager and related how good of an experience we had and it was clear that she was running a good shop. It always starts at the top. I've looked over their menu and thought this place looked interesting. One day at work, a co-worker said he was getting a milkshake from here. Hmm... It was that kind of day, so I needed one too... We went over around 1:00 pm and after looking at the menu, I decided I wanted a frozen hot chocolate instead. My co-worker enjoyed his milkshake and I liked my frozen hot chocolate. This has to be one of my favorite sit-down, warm, homey brunch spots. The restaurant is a chain, and they haven't disappointed no matter which location they're at. The iced chai cafe or any shakes/smoothie/ specialty drink are all decadent and fill you to the point where you would maybe only need an appetizer. ( Stay away from the orange juice. Sometimes it's freshly squeezed, and other times it's not- definite hit or miss). The only only dish I would never eat again on the menu, and I've had just about every item on it, would be the Grande Huevos Rancheros. It's an overwhelming amount of food all thrown together with no real take-away taste. The classic benedict or wilbur skillet are my all time favorites and you could never go wrong! I'm a loyal customer to Turning Point. The food is always good and I've always had a great experience with my waiters. However, at my last visit, my meal was interrupted by shouting from the kitchen. The manager was being completely disrespectful and rude to the other staff members. Not only did the yelling disturb everyone eating, no one should be expected to work under those conditions. Until I see that all of the staff is being treated fairly and I see a change in management style, I will take my business elsewhere. read more

A comfy place for brunch near Bryn Mawr College. My friends and I have been here twice together. Food: To be honest, when I first came here I wasn't extremely impressed with the food. It's tasty, but mediocre at best. They do have some very creative ideas on their menu though, and there is a lot to choose from. My friends and I can never decide between sweet or savory, so we usually get a mix of both and share with each other. Their pancakes are really yummy! Environment: A comfortable space. Because I've only been here with big parties, we're usually sitting way in the back in a separate room. It's definitely way roomier than Ardmore Station Cafe so don't worry about space. Service: Slow, but friendly. The waiters are very amicable and conversational, but unfortunately the food takes a while to come out. At least the waiters drop by once in a while to give you updates on the food so they aren't leaving you wondering. Overall, it's not the best brunch place I've been to, but it's good enough for this college student who is sometimes overcome with sudden cravings for brunch on the weekends. Their food isn't amazing, and their service can be slow, but I give them kudos for the wide variety of items on the menu. Don't bother on a weekend. We have been here several times. The food is average, the coffee is good. The wait is painful. They could use a course in table management. After being told that the counter just need to be cleaned, we waited and waited. It was cleaned. We waited. The waitress told the hostess it could be set up. We waited. And when I asked for a new coffee mug, which had coffee stains on the inside, we were told that the stains just won't go away, even though I could clearly wipe the stain with my napkin. And when they brought me a new mug, they said "we found the one that had the least stains.‍" And then our waiter brought me a side of sausage, and the plate was blistering hot, handed it to me with no warning. Went here for the first time today because the bagel place in the same shopping center was closed, but I'm so glad we did! It was exactly what I felt like eating. The location was clean- seriously done of the cleanest restrooms I have ever seen. He got huevos rancheros and I made my own combo with the soup of the day and a chicken salad sandwich with cranberries. If that sandwich was a half, I can't imagine a whole one! His dish was good, but the highlight was the Tuscan bean soup, probably the best I have ever had. I think it had sausage but I'm not sure, and I didn't ask. I'm not vegetarian, so it wasn't an issue for me. But they do have a lot of vegetarian and vegan options if that is a consideration for you. Service was friendly and prices reasonable. I came to visit my alma mater for my 5 year reunion. As the weekend came to an end, we looked for a brunch spot prior to heading back to NYC. We found this hidden gem in the back of a strip mall on the main line. Two friends and I came into Turning Point with three suitcases. The hostess was extremely accommodating and found room for us to put our suitcases and sat us immediately. The coffee, breakfast, and lunch selections were "eggstraordinary"! We ordered the hazelnut flavored french press coffee which was great for sharing. We got a short stack to start off and I got the Wilbur Skillet for my entree. I really liked the fact that all dishes could be changed to whatever we liked. I got the Wilbur Skillet without bacon and egg whites. They were more than happy to make those substitutions for me which was much appreciated. The waitress also offered two types of hot sauce: Tabasco and Sriracha which was great. The service was amazing and food was savory. I had a great experience and would definitely recommend to anyone looking to brunch. read more

It was nice to go to Villanova this past weekend and see this new brunch spot- we wish it was here when we went to Nova. The BYOB option is spot on and the prices are ridiculous. Service is great and we all had a great time! Wait time wasn't bad as we called ahead but I can def see the wait going up to hours on busy weekend times. That being said, food was OKAY. My chicken and waffles were just regular waffles with chicken tenders on top and a gravy sauce that I did not care for. My bf and friend got the huevos rancheros and they were decent. This place is really a diner masquerading as something a bit more upscale including the price they charge. No real complaints about the food but $19 (including tip) for a basic egg white omelette on a whole wheat pita with some grapes & French press coffee is pricey even for the Main Line. Been here twice now and neither time has the French press coffee been that great. I can make a better version at home especially if I grind the beans right before I make it. My girlfriend's chicken and waffle came recommended and while the waffle was decent the fried chicken wasn't well-seasoned nor did it have the ideal consistency of fried chicken (crispy skin on the outside, moist and tender on the inside). It was kind of dried out and over cooked. The service was reasonable and the wait staff is very friendly. I just wish the food was a bit better for the price you pay. Turning Point started out as one of my favorite breakfast joints in the area (and God only knows we've been in need of a good breakfast on the mainline). The setting, in a lovely, easy to walk to shopping center in Bryn Mawr, is bright and airy, with fun art and spacious booths. When they initially opened, we went often... to share the wonderful French press coffee and enjoy a skillet (Popeye's was one of my favorites), or the Breakfast Nachos, or one of their wonderful pancakes. Usually great service, a creative selection, and nice atmosphere. And then, in the past year, something happened. Service started going downhill. The food wasn't executed as well. Takes forever to get your food. Staff seemed to be a revolving door. I don't know what's going on, but I do hope that they get their act together. Maybe someone at their corporate headquarters will see this review and get on the ball. Because ya'all started out good...and I'm only giving 3 stars out of memories of what used to be. read more

The restaurant is located in a nice shopping center with plenty of parking, but unfortunately, that's where the goodness ends. If you make any reservations here, don't expect to be seated at the reserved time nor be updated on why since they failed to give us any rhyme or reason on the status despite our multiple attempts. I ended up walking up to the manager because we were consistently ignored (there seems to be no hostess). We observed waitresses literally running around and bumping into each other with plates. It felt chaotic. Seating: 40 minutes later with a reservation, we finally got seated but it was extremely cramped since they added chairs to accommodate 12 people within two tables (single table would normally fit 2-4 ppl). Food: after we placed our orders, the waitress asked us to change our orders because they were out of bacon, ham and sausage. Huh? I thought they were a breakfast joint. I ended up ordering a sad looking chicken pesto panini and my husband got a whopping $12 omelette which he thought was almost inedible. The food needs some significant improvement. Customer service: to top everything off, our waitress seemed frazzled. When taking orders, she barked at my friend, who ordered a French press followed by waffles (sounds quite normal?). She could only take drink orders for the entire party first, then food items. This way she would remember who ordered what. I thought it was an aggressive communication method, but gave her the benefit of the doubt. Well, when each drink and food item came out, she couldn't remember who ordered what and asked repeatedly. She gave me the impression that we were serving as an immense annoyance to her when requesting items such as hot sauce, water, and butter for our waffles. Muffins are to be toasted not come slightly warmed and soggy 3. Bacon says "thick cut" but instead it's thin and so over cooked that it's hard in texture 4. Muffins should be served with jam/butter offered - but had to ask - no forward thinking on the part of staff Training: 1. One gets a sense that the restaurant is over staffed since they congregate around the bar while patrons are still plentiful and lack attention 2. One waited walks around with underwear showing and trousers that hang below the buttocks. To be fair another staff member finally noticed and told this person 3. Basic training in waiting tables required to be attentive to detail. Large oval plates should be placed in the proper position I. Front of people not long ways, water should be refreshed, chairs should be wiped down instead of finger marks from children all over them This restaurant is well located, but disappointing in terms of quality of food and service. This is probably the most mediocre breakfast place. A true shame because it had so much potential. My friend and I came in and no one was around to help us, so we waited until the hostess finally returned and helped us. We ordered simple items (Wilbur skillet and Pancakes) with no changes or anything. The food came and was nothing special, and I could probably make something better at home. On the menu the skillet is supposed to come with fruit and mine did not so I asked. My waiter said he would get it. We waited and waited. At that point we were done eating and ready to pay. The first time I was waiting 15 minutes past my pick up time and I got someone else's order. Second time I asked for greens instead of potato's and added a side of pork roll. Neither was done. I went in and they took my whole order I said, you can just bring out the greens and pork roll. I don't need it all remade. They took it anyway. Ten minutes later hand me a bag.
