Turnpike is the absolute best! We ordered the big Sam's omelette and steak and eggs, coffee, Stella, and pineapple mimosa. The food looked amazing, came out so quickly, and the best part is our server was an absolute gem. Cammie is the greatest! After Doc's closed due to family medical issues, I headed across the street to try Turnpike, since it had a new owner. They have changed for the better! You can now get a breakfast "platter" with eggs cooked to order. In the past, it was scrambled or nothing. For breakfast, their Shrimp and Grits (really Shrimp Creole) are fantastic. As good as Henry's Louisiana Kitchen in Acworth, GA. And their breakfast and lunch Specials are great deals (be kind to your wallet). Good food, good selection, family owned and operated, very small. Putting in the outdoor deck, which I've never once seen being used, makes the handicapped spot parking more challenging. But my biggest issue is their website info is apparently outdated. They're closed on Wednesdays, or they close early, as we went there twice at around 4:30pm and they were closed, yet their site said they were open. Calling their number was useless...just rings and rings and rings, no voicemail saying they were closed or on vaca or what their hours are and no option to leave a message. Come on guys- your customers deserve better. read more

First time here. Found out they have new owners and menu. Can't compare it to the old one. I had the southern chicken sandwich and it was soooo good. Has coleslaw and remoulade on it. Mediocre food for people with no taste pallet. Spring Hill being filled with elderly retirement people I do expect the food to be a little bland or maybe even unseasoned but I can name about 10 other places I'd rather eat at than this place. I ordered a the RIBEYE STEAK for dinner and was met with dissatisfaction when I got my food and seen a small pork chop looking piece of meat that my 4 year old could eat and still be hungry after. As I take a bite I noticed it seems like they grabbed this piece of meat from the freezer and just started cooking it. Alfredo pasta was also ordered and this arrived at the table in a pool of oil and Alfredo sauce. Once we were seated we were taking in the shorter menu than what we had see in other posts. Lots of delicious sounding items still. We started first with some fried pickle spears. Really good. Light breading with a nice crunch but hot !! Be careful as they make it to order so it comes out pretty hot. The peddle sauce was really good. Get some to go. I then had the Broadway biscuit. Italian meats and seasoning on a biscuit. Knife and fork sandwich. Great flavors. Add in the fries covered in cheese and bacon and you got a meal!! Took over half home it was so big! This was our first time here since it changed ownership. It was very good! I had the special: chicken florentine with broccoli and mashed potatoes. My wife had the chicken gouda that was served with broccoli and mashed potatoes as well. We both chose the vegetable soup instead of a salad. Everything tasted great. The bread that's brought to the table is awesome!!! Fresh and perfectly toasted! We ordered dessert to go. They serve nice size portions. Our server, Autumn, was nice, friendly and helpful. She'd be our Turnpike Tour Guide. And we were so glad. The meaning of the name Amber is jewel. Or, it's that yellow caution light between Green GO and Red STOP! So, I guess she is a Drive Like Hell jewel? She sure delivered drink refills and such faster than FeedEx! We started out with a curiously named App called Speed Bumps. Dill pickle spears, breaded and deep fried, served with a dip. I'll call 'em dip sticks! Crunchy, followed by that pickley pucker factor. YUM! Fab One ordered the Hot 5th Avenue sandwich, which is thickly sliced hot pastrami piled high with Swiss and deli mustard, served on thick cut rye. BUT, she added a tempting twist! She got hers half pastrami and half corned beef! A cornastrami?? Or, origami? I took a bite, it was a masterpiece, for sure. I got the I-95 Philly. Nothing silly 'bout this cheesesteak Philly. Shaved ribeye with sauteed peppers and onions, topped with a golden cheese sauce. Served on a toasted garlic roll. Picture a sandwich the size of the Liberty Bell. Well, almost.... And a side of mouth watering onion rings. Now, let's talk about prices. Yeah, the prices seem a bit higher than 'normal'. But, don't you pay $10-13 for a burger at most restaurants nowadays? What I'm talking about at Turnpike is 'you get what you pay for'. And that is, absolutely HUGE portions of prime meat, GRAND ingredients and LARGE tastes! We've ordered a couple of times and haven't been disappointed. But this last time was exceptional. We got a fish sandwich/fries and a Philly/fries. We picked our lunch up. It was ready when we got there, and still piping hot when we got home. Over all it was delicious!!!! Please give them a try, I doubt you'll regret it! We discovered this restaurant from a Robert Irvine Restaurant Impossible episode. I believe it was Robert Irvine that created the Duck Confit Hash. Great dish. We've gone to the restaurant several times and someone usually gets the Duck Confit Hash. While it is a delicious entree, it is a little bit on the smaller side. Other dishes have larger portions. Let me say that the owner, the mother featured on the show, is very nice and personable. I like her. Whoever is the waitress there (on a Saturday) has struck me as a little bit brusque. Last visit, I ordered the avocado toast. I was really disappointed. Seemed like it was going to be outstanding with bacon and pickled onions. BUT it was not fresh avocado. It tasted like premade guac that you buy in the store and it tasted a bit like the fridge (too). Again, disappointing because all you needed to make this dish shine is *fresh avocado*. Also, previously, I had ordered cheese grits... they were lumpy and a bit dry, not hot and not fresh. Another time, I ordered the steak and eggs. The steak was not tender, at all. Absolutely outstanding experience. We booked a private dinner party for 20+ people and could not have been more pleased. From meeting with the chef to plan a customized off-menu list of entree choices for our guests, to impeccable service and delicious meals served quickly and efficiently, there was not a single thing that could have been done any better. And that's not something I say very often. Usually there are at least a few areas that can stand some improvement, but not here. This was a top-shelf experience all the way around. Just to make doubly sure, we came for breakfast the next morning which only served to confirm our assessment of the night before. This is a small, sit in restaurant with fast paced service and a nice size menu with lots of different sandwich options. We ordered a couple appetizers-which were both delicious! I wish the pretzel bites came with more but it is still a good size serving. The friend pickle spears were also really good, just watch out cuz you'll burn your mouth- too good to use common sense and let them cool a bit The sandwiches, as expected, were HUGE. This place is a gem, the staff was so pleasant and kept up with all the orders that were coming in by phone, walk ins and people that were seated. The portions are incredible, they are very large, the flavor isn't lost in the amount. I'm not joking, you can order 4 sandwiches and cater a party of 10 with them. The only con would be it's kind of a small area to be seated and when it's crowded it can be a little loud. That by no means should change your mind in going. They also have to go menus. Well after much anticipated visit my expectations were not let down. Probably one of the top 3 breakfast diners I have ever ate at through the country. Everything was cooked perfectly especially the eggs. Many places don't understand scrambled light but they nailed it. The French toast is a must try. You cannot go wrong here.
