Why is it the best? Pride. The park is beautifully maintained, it is clean and landscaping is really attractive with blooms and birds. Staff is attentive, professional and friendly. Sergio, the manager does a great job and is very helpful. Facilities are clean and all amenities work and are well maintained (think laundry room). The heated pool and jacuzzi is great with sparkling water. Watching the sunset from the jacuzzi is a highlight. Workout rooms are well appointed. We have amazing neighbors and a great view of the desert. Road Runners run by our site. The park is safe and well lit. Roads are in good shape. Propane is available on site. The office has a small store with yummy treats and other convenient items. I am so glad we found Distant Drums RV Resort and give thanks to all who work to make it great!

The people who've been asked to leave have wrecked the peaceful atmosphere, and they want special treatment. It's always the same. Then they post hateful, ignorant comments thinking they're accomplishing something important. I hope I get to stay here for a long time. And make some long-lasting friendships while I'm here.

We arrived early to beat the high winds that day but the office was not open yet, they opened early to accomadate us and went over and above expectations. They are the perfect Camp Managers, it was so fun getting to know them, we will definitely be back soon. The campground setting is on a creek for fishing or floating with lots of beautiful Sycamore trees for shade and the crew works so hard in keeping up with all the maintenance it takes to keep everything looking so beautiful. The restraunt next door is an extra bonus for those who want a special meal or a break from cooking. It's pretty cool in the sense that on a good day, a 90-minute drive from Phoenix can make you feel…read moremuch further away than you actually are. Just don't expect a complete change of scenery. This is "high desert", which basically means it's the same old scenery, but more shrubs because it's a good 15 degrees cooler. You are not entirely escaping the summer heat, so if you're that sensitive, move further north. The campground itself is pretty boring. There's not enough open space to do much of anything but sit around and stare into the distance. It is also relatively flat, with no real hiking trails. If you like walking up tall things or participating in open-field sports like soccer and flag football, you will be disappointed. What's cool about this is the stream that flows through. It was 100 degrees out, but suddenly manageable as long as you sat next to the surprisingly cold water under plenty of shade. Walk a little bit upstream and downhill and you'll come across a shallow watering hole that appears to be the main attraction. But if you walk a good mile upstream, braving the terrible, terrible footing that is the seemingly endless off-trail pathway of large rocks, you will be rewarded. There's another large area for swimming, and the majority of campers won't bother going there. At roughly 5 1/2 feet, it's perfect swimming for just about anyone. But yeah...that's cool, but about the only thing (besides making s'mores) you'll really do here. It was cool for a one-night, one-day getaway if you want everyone in your life to leave you alone.

Should be called mobile home/rv park. Although there are some nice homes there you will not find a…read morelot of rv spaces. If you do, you will be tucked in between mobile homes & old rv's some of which are from the 60's or 70's. The nicer spaces are in the back of park but you have to be a permanent, monthly or have over a 31 ft long rv. The park has a lot of trees and is relatively quiet unless you are in the front near Hwy 260 and the bar across the street. We were in the front near some very old rv & run down mobiles with outdated hookups. The office people were friendly & so where the people we met walking their dogs. The club house looked nice but was closed due to a water pipe breaking. There is a tiny dog run next to club house with doggie poop bags. The further you get toward the back of rv park the nicer it is with big rigs and newer mobiles. Our friend needed guidance with backing his 5th wheel in but the man from the office just left him to figure it out. Couldn't pull through due to a fire dept. no parking sign. Not sure if restrooms or laundry is nice since we didn't use them. Would probably stay again but only if we could get toward the back. We checked a few other rv parks in the Payson area and this seemed like the best one. Stayed in a 2014 24ft travel trailer. Our friends stayed in a 28 ft 5th wheel.

Stopped by…read morehere Tuesday and checked the posted info on the locked door, as well as their Facebook calendar. It said tonight was steak night. Doors open 4pm. Dinner at 5pm. Upon entering, I spoke to one of their officers (white jacket) and said I was a visiting Elk blah blah blah. He said this was a members only who RSVP'd event and he didn't have any extra steaks. Ummm... it didn't say that on the post on the door or the Facebook page. I am sure it was because I was in jeans and a black sweater and about 20 years younger. He told me I was welcome to come back at 6pm and have a drink then when they opened the bar after the dinner. I told him I didn't drink alcohol and he said "that's too bad." He was completely condescending towards me. My home lodge is friendly and welcoming to all. It is why I am an Elk. This place seems to be a private clique and if they don't know you, you are unwelcome.
