Their selection of RPG books (which all I'm looking for out the store) is small but very well-curated, with a good variety of usually hard-to-find indie RPGs alongside the standard D&D and Pathfinder fare. It's made me uncomfortable enough that I have left without buying anything a couple of times. These is a solid store for specialty board games, Magic the Gathering cards, and the like. They have a backroom for gaming events (I think it's all for Magic). The selection is decent but isn't as big as the Compleat Strategist in Manhattan. (It's less cluttered than that store though.) The owner I dealt with was friendly and helpful. Went in to buy Magic singles and they had a great selection and low prices for big sets of commons from various editions. I usually go to The Uncommons (near NYU) for Magic tournaments, but Twenty Sided is better for buying singles or other sets. Still, I hear the tournaments here are good too. read more

I only came in to buy a dice set for D&D, but I mentioned that it would be my first time playing and the guy at the counter was super sweet about it. Asked me what I'd be playing as and gave me a few tips. I'll definitely be back for that second d20. As for the store itself, it's cluttered but in a good way, and they even run games in the back area, which was completely full when I took a peek. The guy mentioned they run regular D&D campaigns and one-shots, and a bunch of other tabletop games too. You will get the singles you need without searching, much like a professional singles dealer at a Grand Prix event. 2. Frequent, scheduled, calendared events with excellent prize support. Generally, if you're a small business in a recession, and someone calls you offering to spend around $100 on cardboard with pictures on it, then pay you again for the privilege of playing with other people in the store, you would be excited right? ....Not here. I called earlier in the week asking about specific MTG singles, and got no help. Called again on the weekend, and asked for some help,but the customer service rep was too busy at the time and asked me to email. Still nothing. At the end of the day to figure out what happened. The same lady acts like its a huge hassle to be troubled at her place of employment, and hands me off to the resident magic expert who answers my questions in less than a minute. I really had high hopes for this place after checking out their site and these reviews, but the awful customer service really left a bad taste in my mouth. I've been slinging cardboard for more than a decade, and this was the worst customer service dealing with game shops. read more

Super cool gaming store. It's not the biggest, but they've got a good selection of all the classics, including more expansion versions of Settlers than you can shake a stick at. Of course, they also have Magic cards, other board games, limited edition special versions of games, and a ton of accessories. There's a tiny table by the front where you can play things. What was a stupid question about ramen and jigsaw puzzles turned into an intro session about a ramen card game. I have been to a lot of game stores in the US and UK, and Twenty Sided is truly one of the best. Great selection of board games, Magic the Gathering, DnD, and accessories. The staff is phenomenal, and scheduled events run smoothly and on time. Well worth the trip to Williamsburg if you are visiting New York. read more

Just called to check to see if they had a single card. A guy on the phone asked me to go online and fill out a form which they would 'respond too immediately'. I could understand this if 15 or more cards because its not high priority. I could understand this if it was a huge company like Amazon. But this is a local game shop, at noon on a Tuesday, it would have been easier and more productive for both of us to just go check the stock for a single card. So that's what I said - no go. They have a policy I guess. Makes it feel really corporate. Like I already said this company isn't Amazon, tcgplayer, eBay if you throw away convenience and good customer service then you're not worth the time as a LGS. Even star city games will send you extra information/images of a card if you call and ask - without filling out a form. I guess I'll just jump on the train and go to the shop, but this will be the last time. Never before has a store made me fill out a form to buy from them. Unmistakable B.O. stench makes it hard to browse in this shop right off Jaime Campiz Playground, but if you come with a cold or when it's less busy than the Saturday we did, you have a nice selection of card and board games with a playing area in the back. read more

If you're looking for a small, cramped place with little room to move around in as well as little natural light penetration or air filtration, Twenty Sided Store is just for you. The store consists of merchandise for about the first fifteen feet into the store, then the rest is just rows upon rows of tables. They undercut your trade in values on Magic: the gathering cards, i recieved sixty dollars for cards i probably would have gotten over eighty back home, and the customer service isn't always the best. Lauren and her crew are amazing! Had our son's 13th birthday party here. They played D&D, which none of them had ever played, and all of them had a blast. Keeping the attention of 9 13 year old boys is beyond difficult but DMs Lauren and Ken were fabulous. All of the boys are now totally addicted to D&D. The shop is great too. read more

This is a great board-games store. I discovered it while walking through to the J train, and their display of Ticket to Ride games caught my eye. The regular US board is quite available at most stores, but finding the country/continent boards has been harder and I've only heard about its availability on Amazon. So I was more than happy to see a variety at 20-Sided and to buy from a local source - even better! The staff was very helpful (I basically brought up every box of Ticket to Ride to the register to have the price checked) and insightful (they explained how some of the boxes were expansions vs. whole boards). I'm interested in checking out the Thursday board game nights once the weather improves. read more

Had my first pre-release event for MtG here, it's located conveniently for public transport and the people are not super competitive (note it was a Pre-release). Still, a wonderful place to go if looking for games (a diverse collection of board games) or sanctioned events. read more

This is the friendliest game store I have ever been in. It is clean, well organized with a great selection. I went when they were gearing up for a tournament, and even still the woman behind the counter went out of her way to give me pointers on how to relearn (been a long time since I played) Magic. I left a pretty cranky review previously, but 3 years later, It's clear these guys have really worked hard over to improve and build the business. There are several game stores in NYC. Some have a ton of games but nowhere to play them. Others devote most of their store to playing games but don't have much retail inventory. TSS has a good balance of retail and space to play. The staff is knowledgeable and welcoming. I moved out of the neighborhood a year ago, but I now go out of my way to visit TSS. read more

When I first heard a hobby store opened up in Brooklyn I was psyched! Finally a place to play Warhammer, host a D&D campaign or get a game of Malifaux going without have to travel all the way into Long Island or Midtown! Twenty Sided sounded great just from their store name! Geezus was I wrong...this place should be renamed the MTG Store. Their selection of board games is tiny and their selection of minatures and table top game starter boxes is even more pathetic. They have maaaaaaybe three boxes of Warmahordes starters tucked away on a top shelf. No Reaper minis, no paints and an extremely small shelf with a random selection of old Codexs, rule books and and other RPG's. They charge people to play which is understandable but the terrain they have for people to use in table top gaming is insulting. They try and pass off aquarium plants as "terrain". If they're going to charge to play they should at least have decent terrain...a hill or two at least. Their gaming area is super small as well, the place is really only suited for people who play Yu-Gi-Oh or MTG or other card games. I subscribe to their newletter in hopes that I'll see them host a day of D&D campaigns or a day of board gaming but all I EVER see is MTG announcements. I asked one of the owners why they dont have events for things other than MTG and she told me that they are trying to get people to come and play and they hope that community of table top gamers will start to grow. But with the terrain and board they're offering why should table top gamers come and waste their money playing with aquarium plants? Overall, this place is a big let down and really should be renamed the MTG Store. Oh yeah, the last time I visted this store, around june, they had no AC, just a bunch of big fans. read more

You went to TWENTY SIDED STORE on Friday, you rare drafted but didn't manage to pick up anything good; you ended up with 6 shriekhorns, and built a mill deck that went 1-3 but only because you got the bi. You never looked one of your opponents in the eye, you lied about your life total and then called a judge on your opponent and still lost. You asked if there was prize support for your record (there wasn't, but it would have been THE BEST PRIZE SUPPORT IN ALL OF GREATER NEW YORK if you won more than zero matches); you traded with some people between matches, you overvalued your cards, and undervalued theirs. Twenty-sided Store has a strong community of Magic players with a few upsides over other groups/stores in NYC: everyone is nice and there is a genuinely fun and open air to the place. The location is great-- right in the midst of Williamsburg. Beats traveling a half hour just to draft! read more
