1 Star - Defective Work, No Contract, Avoided Responsibility…read moreI hired Long Island Mason & Concrete Corp in June 2024 to pour a concrete patio for $5,900. The experience was a nightmare from start to finish. The Problems: The contractor requested payment in cash and never provided a written contract, which is required by New York law for jobs over $500. Within one week of the pour, two slabs began flaking and scaling. I immediately contacted the contractor. The work was done on a 100-degree day. When I raised concerns about the extreme heat affecting the concrete, the contractor acknowledged "this is the result of extreme heat" but refused to take responsibility as the professional who should have managed weather conditions or rescheduled. Months of Delays: Instead of promptly addressing the defects, the contractor stalled for months. When he finally offered to replace the two damaged slabs, he demanded I sign a liability waiver and warned the new concrete wouldn't match the color of the existing slabs - meaning I'd have a permanently mismatched patio due to his defective work. I offered a reasonable cash settlement to resolve the issue. He refused. I had no choice but to file a complaint with Nassau County Consumer Affairs. Official Violations: Consumer Affairs cited the contractor for multiple violations, including failure to provide a written contract (violation 202360, originally a $2,500 fine). He only agreed to a settlement after facing thousands in fines and potential license suspension. Ongoing Defects: After settling, two additional slabs developed structural cracks running completely across the slabs from joint to joint. All four slabs now show defects, confirming my original concern that the entire pour was compromised. Bottom Line: For a $5,900 job, I received a defective patio that required a 7-month battle through Consumer Affairs to get partial compensation. The contractor operates without proper contracts, pours in extreme conditions without adequate precautions, and avoids responsibility when problems arise. I strongly recommend hiring a licensed contractor who provides written contracts, follows proper procedures, and stands behind their work. This is not that contractor.

His company is one that was recommended by Angi and honestly now I am skeptical of Angi and will never use them again either after this experience. We wanted trek stairs going from the patio to a side door and pavers all around as the patio. Gramarossa are not professionals. The guys they hire seem to be randomly plucked off the street as they have no clue what they were doing. I should have known because when I spoke to Ben he said they did not do trek steps, only masonry. I set an appointment anyway because I figured maybe I can hire someone else to do my trek steps. Yet when he spoke to my husband a few days later (I was at work) he said they do them. It was a disaster from the moment the backyard pavers were laid out. The whole thing was literally slanted sideways by probably 10-15 degrees. In fact the next day the whole thing had to take down and redone. Ben claimed it happened unfortunately because he was not watching his men because he was too busy shopping for our trek materials. The trek steps was done by a man from an entirely different company. It seems they have hired him separately on the side to do it so they can have our business... and it was a SHOTTY job. Ben and his father was watching the man do the work and never said anything about how terrible it was... until we brought it up and they agreed it was not up to their standards. So If we were timid and didn't say anything, they would've definitely let it slide. Whatever. I was just glad they fixed everything without putting up a fight. But here's the thing that really made me angry. His men put their materials and mixed concrete on own brand new asphalt done the year prior, with no protection whatsoever so half of our newly done asphalt was sprinkled with dried concrete. Sadly we did not notice it when we paid because there was still dust and debri all thoughout and it was wet (they attempted to clean) so it was hard to see the stains. That is our fault for not noticing. But I'm annoyed because they knew it happened. I captured the entire thing on my ring camera where they were cleaning and the worker called Ben and his father over to show him the stains that did not come out. They stayed there for a long time trying to clean but it did not come out. No one said a word to us. I contacted Ben via text a week or so later after noticing the huge stains to which he denied it happened and that the stains came out. He said he will come by to power wash it to see if it would come out. We told him we tried. He said he will come by nonetheless but of course never showed up. He said his asphalt guy is not answering and is busy. That was the last of that. So... don't be cheap and hire these guys. I wish I had not.

They really helped us get the most out of our yard. We still can't believe that we were able to fit a 16' by 20' Inground Pool plus a 7' Sun deck for water-chair lounging. They helped us design a beautiful 12' flowerbox feature (along 1-side of the Pool) with stone pedastals on either end to support our magnificent Pentair Lighted-Glass Water Bowls ... and in between them, a 4' Sheer Descent waterfall! They also saved us precious back yard space by installing all of our Pool Equipment in the back corner of our 2-car garage, adjacent to the Pool. We saw more than 7 Pool design companies before making our choice, but Gappsi was the ONLY company that exclusively uses natural stone in their work (instead of cement pavers)... and at a very reasonable price, by comparison. Our goal was to create the look and feel of a 5-star hotel resort, so we surrounded our modern spa-like pool with a creamy-white natural Marble Stone throughout the entire yard and added a crisp sparkling white accent stone around the flowerbox which houses the 4' waterfall & two 24" glass water bowls. They also rebuilt our 2 sets of outdoor steps, re-laid the cement floor in our 2-car garage, put in a dry-well for proper drainage and back-washing, laid beautiful natural blue limestone down our entire 60-foot driveway as well as in front our our 2-car Garage and BBQ area. Our driveway was edged with a beautiful large Belgian Block to give it all a crisp & pristine finished look. Finally, they surrounded 2 sides of our pool with beautiful 6' tall Arbourvides to complete the serine Spa-like atmosphere. This stunning Pool and backyard surround continie to blow our family & friends away, every time they visit! And, with the added LED Color Lighing in & around the Pool, House & Garage, and including the amazing outdoor sound-system we installed ... we truly feel like we are always on vacation at a luxurious 5-star vaction resort, and all within a few short steps from our home!! We are very thankful to the entire Gappsi team for their professionalism and their high-caliber work and attention to detail Kudos for a spectacular job, well done!! -Corey & Sandra Seaford, NY
