This isn't a State Park made to stay at for any extended period of time but rather a great stopping point for us on our Circle tour of the biggest lake of all the great lakes. We rolled in on a Friday mid-afternoon and couldn't be more pleased with our one night stay. Yes, the highway is nearby and you do hear the traffic but for our visit, it couldn't have been more perfect. We saw the sunset and the moon on full tilt out on Superior. It was truly a welcoming rest on our journey through the North. From Milwaukee, expect about a 5 or so hour drive. From there you have just about reached as far as you can go before you run out of road. Next stop, Copper Harbor. Our favorite amenity about Baraga was the bathrooms. They were absolutely the cleanest facilities we had use of during our 9-day jaunt. The showers were solid and the water was hot. Baraga was a great start for our camping adventures to come! We would stop through this place anytime!

This was a mistake coming here as the road noise is terrible, it sounds like the Indy 500 and it is not conducive for an enjoyable camping experience. You couldn't even sit in it for fear of what you may be sitting on. The outside of the camper was just as disgusting. I guess it never occurred to the campground owners to power wash it. I spent at least two hours cleaning and disinfecting the camper that we were told was new. Lies. If I was on this trip alone, I would have left immediately. Reluctantly I paid my bill - almost $200 a night! I still feel like disputing with my charge card company because we were lied to and taken advantage of. Not sure how they live with themselves renting this camper to people. When I went to the office to complain, they had the nerve to tell me it was cleaned. I am not an idiot.

The camp map needs a lot to be desired since the sited are placed among the trees. We stayed three nights and should have stayed longer. Boulder Junction 10 miles away and Walmart 17 miles away. Copper Harbor is miles from cell towers so service is spotty to non existent. We enjoyed the solitude of being in the wilderness without being continually bombarded with calls. The lodge is older. The rustic look takes you back to the 70s. I grew up in the 70s, so for me it was totally nostalgia. Things are showing their age, but then again, so am I. The TV only gets a few channels, but if I wanted to watch one of the hundred channels cable offers, I'd have stayed home. I was able to get the news and weather. WiFi is great if you're near the office. If you really need to be online, pull your car up to the office and have at it. We came here for a getaway from the rat race and the everyday stress that the big city offers. This is exactly what we wanted. I sat for hours on our deck watching the sun rise over the Lake Fanny Hooe. We hiked a trail that went around the lake. We even saw a waterfall. The town offers some nice shops and restaurants. We took a trip up to Brockway mountain. We even saw the northern lights for the first time. This campground/lodge is in the wilderness. You come here for a getaway. That's part of the ambiance. I think it's only fitting that the accommodations should reflect that. If you want the Embassy Suites, stay home. If you want a wilderness getaway, this might be the place for you.We were satisfied with our stay here.

Our room was on the bottom floor. We had an amazing view of Lake Fanny Hooe. Yes, the rooms are outdated, but how much time do you really spend in your room anyways? Is the expierence about your room or the area in which you are staying? The TV in our room offered limited channels, and the wi-fi is spotty at best. If you want/need good wifi then the office is the place to be. There is access to hiking trails on the property and they offer boat rentals to boat around Lake Fanny Hooe if desired. A short walk away are restaraunts, shops, a food market and Lake Superior. Overall, we enjoyed our stay here. It was a nice, relaxing getaway from the hustle and bustle of daily life.
