Campfire ring with chairs outside of your tent
    Keri J.

We have done many floats with this company. Every drop off has been great! We recently did the two day overnight float! It was amazing. We chose glamping and had the tent right there when we pulled out. We had also pre ordered the firewood which we highly recommend. Tents were awesome. I recommend sight 3 at horseshoe bend. The Adirondack chairs make for a comfy seat around the fire pit. There are 2 tents on that platform. We only packed bedding and food in or kayaks. Made for an easier float for us. We def will be back for more adventures!

The entire team at TRO went out of their way to make sure we had a terrific float and camping experience. We brought our own canoe, which they helped load and even stopped at our campsite to show us exact landmarks that would help us know where to take-out later that day. We were even able to unload some camping gear to lighten our load on the float itself. We had a spectacularly beautiful day on the headwaters of the James, passing through towering stone cliffs and sweeping mountain views. We brought fishing gear and caught a few, but we quickly discovered that we wanted to spend as much time as possible simply looking through binoculars at the wildlife (we saw a Bald Eagle, an Osprey, Great Blue Herons, Egrets, and Mergansers). While there was a cell signal for much of the float, it felt like we were in the wilderness, surrounded by nothing but pristine nature. It was so nice to just be present in the moment, without feeling the need to take more than a few pictures. We should all take a break from experiencing everything we do through a screen - recording everything digitally, without experiencing any of it deeply enough to record it in our own memories. The river was fairly low, but there had been recent rain, so it was up a bit more than usual for late summer / early fall, making the couple Class II rapids, and even some of the bigger Class I runs a good challenge for us. We're not novice paddlers, but certainly not whitewater adrenaline junkies either. Suffice it to say that by the time we got to our campsite, after about 14 miles, we were tired, but very happy! After a great night of eating dinner and talking, while watching the sun set, we went to bed, listening to the sounds of the river. We upgraded our trip to one of TRO's "Glamping" sites, so you could hardly call it "roughing it". That just allowed more time to visit and laugh, instead of pitching a tent and gathering firewood. It was so relaxing, in fact, that I slept-in far too long, meaning our Day 2 float would have been really rushed in order to float down to our car and then drive 3 hours home after breakfast (ok, brunch!). I called the office and asked if it would be possible to pick us up from our campsite and drive us back to our vehicle. Within 20 minutes, we were loading the shuttle van with our gear. Keep in mind, this was Labor Day - one of TRO's busiest days of the year - especially for tubing trips. John, Rob, and Zach really went above and beyond for us. I can't promise that they'll always be able to drop everything to accommodate everyone, like they were able to accommodate a last-minute change from a sleepy middle-aged paddler like myself. What I do know is that the entire TRO team will do EVERYTHING they can to make sure you have an awesome time! This wasn't my first trip with Twin River Outfitters and it certainly won't be the last. Book with confidence!

Such a well done trip...we were impressed by the back country camping facilities (super clean, hammock accommodations, water provisions) and with the kayak rental (provided dry bags, maps, training). We will be doing this again soon.

Stopped in for a lazy afternoon before the Ironman Race. It was exactly was we needed to gloar in the cool refreshing waterbefoee the race. The staff was very helpful and fun. They had a lot of different tubes to choose from so everyone was comfortable. The ride to the start was short. I definitely recommend water shoes/sandles. There's a short hike down to the water that is quite rocky. We took a short break between trips and went across the swinging bridge and got ice cream from the Drip across the street. Quaint little place. We really enjoyed our 2 trips down the river and would come back. The James river was clean and clear, cool and refreshing. Thanks for a great time.

This is a great adventure for the young ( grandkids age 14) and the old grandfather (Age 77) The trips are well placed and timed. You will find one that fits your schedule and budget Beautiful country lots of nature to observe, local restaurants very near by Travel by I-81 or a more scenic Blue Ridge Parkway and Lodge within 20 miles Lots of Day and 1/2 day trips or go for longer with camping options

The horses are well-taken-care of and seem happy. No beefaroni in these horses' diets. But the horses who pulled out carriage did like getting apple Pop Tarts as treats, which was cute. The carriage tour goes all around downtown Lexington, and we saw the old hospital, cemetery, two universities, historic houses and lots more. The pace of travel is slow, so you have lots of time to look around and ask questions. Our tour guide was very knowledgeable about the history of Lexington, and answered all of our questions. Afterward, you get to pet the horses and take pictures with them. I would definitely recommend this carriage tour to someone visiting Lexington for the first time.

Plan Ahead - Beautiful Town, But Limited Carriage Availability…read more I was really looking forward to exploring the downtown area by carriage--it looked like such a charming way to see this quaint and lovely town. Unfortunately, I didn't realize the carriage service closes early and requires advance tickets. They only have one carriage, so it's not like other cities where multiple carriages run in rotation and you can wait for the next one. It was disappointing to miss out, especially since the experience seemed fantastic. I'm sure it would've been a 5-star ride had I been able to go. Just a heads-up to future visitors: book ahead if you're hoping for a carriage ride--don't count on just walking up.

The Tour of Naples is a full immersion experience!…read more It starts off with a toast and the restaurant folks are excellent hosts. We learned how to make the Negroni cocktail and they took time to teach the flaming orange. Including a lot of interesting history and information about the spirits. The instruction on making the pizza and cocktail was so thorough that we felt like we really did something, while we learned in action. Worth the time and money. *they did ask if anyone is dry, but not sure what they offer in lieu of the cocktails or wine.

We went on a food tour of downtown Roanoke. Our guide was Ned. I thought the whole tour was run…read morevery well (I've been on about 5 other food tours) and saw that Ned was in contact with the next restaurant each time so that they were ready for us. Ned provided us with great information about the history of the town, the railroad (although some of that was incorrect as he kept saying Raleigh instead of Norfolk as it pertained to the railroad and it kept saying that one of the railway companies "left" when in fact, they were merged. Maybe this wouldn't have mattered so much except someone in our group was very familiar with the railroad) But Ned was very personable and you could tell he loved history and as we do too we really enjoyed his tour. The food on the tour was fairly varied and unique to the town (a must!) and it was great to hear the back story of the ownership of the restaurants. (I was a little worried when at the first two restaurants we were served seafood dishes, a seafood bisque and shrimp and grits as one person in our group doesn't really like seafood and I think this is a risky choice for a tour. Also at Chocolate Paper we were given two mediocre Asher chocolates to try instead of some of their more expensive and more delicious Debrands chocolates.) One person in our group thought there wasn't enough food and thought another restaurant or two should be added. I tend to agree when compared to the cost of this tour against other tours I've taken. Had the cost been a little lower I think the amount of food would've been fine. All in all, a great tour though. Ned really was a great guide, I hope he leads more tours, I really learned a lot!

When Tony and I went to Appomattox Court House State Park we visited the Isbelle House with my…read moredaughter Noel and her boyfriend Adam and believe me the day outside was GORGEOUS!!! The home has a lot of historical value. It is actually called the The Bocock-Isbell House but on the signs at the park it is just listed as Isbelle House. I found more about it on the internet after I left the park. The Bocock-Isbell House is a structure within the Appomattox Court House National Historical Park. It was registered in the National Park Service's database of Official Structures on June 26, 1989. The Bocock-Isbell House has major importance to the Appomattox Court House National Historical Park by virtue of its association with the history and the site of General Robert E. Lee's surrender to General Ulysses S. Grant of the American Civil War. This information is shared from what I learned on the internet about the homes historical value. It was constructed in 1849 to 1850 by brothers, Thomas S. Bocock and Henry F. Bocock. Thomas was a member of the United States Congress and Speaker of the Confederate House of Representatives. At the time Henry was Clerk of the Court for Appomattox County. Lewis Daniel Isbell (1818-1889) was Appomattox County Commonwealth Attorney during the American Civil War (Judge later) and occupied the house at the time General Robert E. Lee surrendered to General Ulysses S. Grant in 1865. He was Appomattox County's representative to the Secession Convention of 1861 and voted to secede from the Union. The Bocock-Isbell House has importance because of its distinctive characteristics of a type, period, and method of construction during the nineteenth century in rural Virginia. The building with its resources associated with the Bocock-Isbell House are typical of both a county government seat ("court house") in Piedmont Virginia in the mid-nineteenth century and of a farming community in Virginia. The Bocock-Isbell House was restored in 1948 to 1949 and preserved in 1992 to 1993. Work was done on it again to stabilize it in 1995 and again it was preserved in 1999. FREE TO ENJOY AND TO TOUR
