It certainly pays to go off the beaten path... My parents recently went to a family reunion in Decorah and told me about this meal they had at Twin Springs Supper Club. My mom said that if was totally my vibe and boy was she right. After winding down some gravel roads outside of Decorah we came across this restaurant that looks more like a cabin. It's cozy with limited tables inside and a beautiful patio space with Christmas lights, gorgeous views of the woods surrounding the property, and heaters for when it gets chilly. They had a great cocktail list with seasonal offerings and a food menu that made it difficult to choose what to order. Everything sounded good and we finally decided that we had to go with the surf and turf because I love shrimp, but heard how amazing the steaks are. We had these amazing little eggrolls with a sweet chili sauce and I loved the French onion soup. It's no wonder this restaurant ranked number one in five different categories this year by OpenTable for Iowa. If I could give you a couple of recommendations based off of my experience, it would be to make sure you have a reservation because it fills up and if you enjoy red meat, you have to get a steak. This 4 ounce fillet had me wishing that I had opted for the ribeye instead just because I wanted more.

First of all what an amazing place. The food was spectacular. I had the filet Del Mar. I sat at the bar with the owner. He was super cool. His wife was there as well. I love how comfortable I felt here. Ambiance was so chill I could have stayed here all night. For dessert I had the strawberry shortcake. Another home run. I can say enough about this place. I love this place.

I can count on one hand the number of reviews I've written, but our experience was so extraordinary, I had to give Twin Springs Supper Club their flowers. My husband and I just got married this past week and decided to eat here during our mini honeymoon in Decorah, so we booked a last minute reservation. The moment we walked in and sat down, a "Congrats!" card was placed on our table that the entire staff had signed and the owner, Roumel, came to our table to congratulate us himself. He even found their final Wagyu steak in the back and offered it to my husband at a special discount to say congratulations. Our food was fantastic from the Lumpia appetizer to his Wagyu steak to my lobster tail and filet. Moe, our server, took the very best care of us and we couldn't stop smiling throughout the entire dinner. Twin Springs shone with hospitality thanks to Moe's and Roumel's attention and care and we couldn't recommend it more.

Have been visiting decorah for years and can't believe we have never tried this place before today! The food was amazing, service was wonderful, the owners even came around to talk with everyone. We were celebrating a birthday and they gave us a delicious brownie to celebrate. Beautiful location. We will definitely be back!

    Prime Rib and garlic mash

The waitress was knowledgeable and very courteous. I ordered Caesar Salad and a 16 ounce prime rib with garlic mash potatoes. The salad was a little over. The mashed potatoes had a perfect amount of garlic added but the star of the show was the prime rib, it was cooked perfectly med rare, the outer rub was great and the ajou was homemade and delicious.

    Yay, wedge salad.

Update: Twin Springs Supper Club The restaurant is a must for us when visiting Dacorah. We dined on Saturday, (reservations). The Saturday special Prime Rib- amazing, only had medium, it was perfect ( disclaimer I like mine rare). The garlic mashed potato, is not overly garlicky, important when you are dining out. The other dish Iowa Pork Chop with BBQ sauce made in house, the chop was cooked perfectly and the source very tasty. When visiting the area check them out

Went to visit our daughter for Homecoming weekend at Luther college and she wanted to go for a nice dinner. I made a reservation and we were seated as soon as we walked in at 7:00. A beautiful, quaint, lodge feel with a back patio for extra seating. Nice wine list (although I would have liked to see a Sauvignon Blanc on the menu). We started with a bottle of cabernet for my husband and daughter and a glass of pinot grigio for me. The owner came to the table to present the bottle which gave us a chance to chat. They came from Arlington Hts, IL where he worked in restaurants and was a sommelier. I could tell he was quite proud of his new restaurant in Iowa :) and he should be! All meals, in true supper club fashion, come with choice of potato or vegetable and choice of soup or house/caesar salad. I ordered the New York strip steak with twice baked potato. Served perfectly medium with an herbed butter on top for extra seasoning. The twice baked potato was full of flavor! My husband said that he likes his twice baked a bit more crispy on top, but I thought it was perfect. I chose the french onion soup and it did not disappoint. The owner had run our first course and mentioned that the onion soup takes over 18 hours to make from start to finish as they make their own broth from the beef bones, let it stew with onions and herbs before they finally serve it to you topped with cheese and green onion. I DRANK the last of my bowl! ala carte side of asparagus with bearnaise. Enough for the table to share. Hubby ordered a cajun pork chop which he said was very juicy and even would have enjoyed a bit more spice. House salad was plentiful and fresh. Daughter had a combination salmon and Filet dinner with Baked potato. Caesar salad (homemade croutons of course) was delicious. Filet was a perfect Med Rare and the salmon was pink in center. Dessert? Creme brulee with fresh berries and a chocolate martini. Koreana's service was delightful. Very appreciative of the owner making rounds to meet his guests. Prices? absolutely reasonable.

    Lumpia!!!

A gem in Decorah or anywhere Iowa! It might be worth the 2.5 hour drive from Minneapolis... I started with Lumpia, Roumel's skewered grilled pork sticks for appetizers, french onion soup and bleu cheese wedge salad with beef tenderloin steak as my main dish. Great wine selections too. Finished with coffee and creme brûlée. 5 Star all the way!! at super resdonable price. Suggest adobo dish with stewed pork and chicken for your adventurous clients even with potatoes and not rice.. Hope to be back again! Salamat.

The Supper Club Standard: A Night of Steaks and Levity at Jones' Black Angus…read moreOn the sprawling Highway 18 in Prairie du Chien, Jones' Black Angus stands as a stalwart of the Wisconsin supper club tradition--a place where the atmosphere is as thick as the cuts of beef and the hospitality feels like an invitation into a neighbor's dining room. The experience is anchored by a service staff that possesses that rare blend of professional precision and genuine personality. Our waitress, Grace, was the heartbeat of the evening. She navigated the floor with a warmth that felt entirely unscripted, providing a level of care that culminated in a particularly touching gesture: when one member of our party stepped away during the presentation of the dessert tray, Grace made a point of returning later to ensure he received the full, choreographed "view" of the nightly sweets. The culinary journey begins at the salad bar, which is--to put it simply--impeccable. In an era where many establishments have retired this particular ritual, Jones' maintains it with a freshness and variety that honors the tradition. However, the evening's primary entertainment came in the form of a recurring linguistic gag. When the soup of the day arrived--a dish that was, by all sensory accounts, a classic gumbo--Grace insisted with a wink that it was "jambalaya." The ensuing debate became the running joke of the night, a bit of shared levity that only a truly great server can cultivate. But the kitchen is not just about the sides and the stories. The filet was impeccable--perfectly seasoned, expertly seared, and possessing that melt-in-the-mouth quality that justifies the Black Angus name. My sincere compliments to the chef for a masterclass in steakhouse fundamentals. "A great steakhouse is about more than just the meat; it's about the memory of the meal." -- Unknown Jones' Black Angus is a reminder of why the supper club remains a beloved institution. Between the "jambalaya" jests, the meticulously curated salad bar, and a filet that commands respect, it is a destination that delivers both a full heart and a full plate.
