The casino itself is very clean, well maintained, and the staff are friendly, which definitely makes the experience more enjoyable. There are plenty of machines to choose from across two floors, so there's a good variety depending on what you like to play. One nice perk is that when you sign up for their players club, they give you $20 in free play, which is a great way to get started. That said, the casino is on the smaller side, so it can get very crowded, especially during busy times. Another downside is the area outside. Being downtown, there were some sketchy people lingering outside, which can make it feel a little less safe late at night. As far as the gambling goes, I personally didn't have much luck. After putting about $200 into the slot machines, I didn't even hit a small bonus, which felt like I was robbed. Of course, it's a casino, so wins are never guaranteed, but it would have been nice to see at least something. Typically I lose all but it keeps me playing for a while. It's all in the fun! Overall, not the best casino experience but definitely not the worst either. If you're a gambler and want a casino option right in downtown Chicago, it's worth checking out.

The elevators are separated between the top 15 floors and floors 1-28. The room was easy to find, though the listing on the room would be better appreciated as you exit the elevator and not as you turn a corner to realize the tiny print is the room numbers. The room is spacious with a king-size bed, a decent-size bathroom, and a closet with an ironing board and iron. They offer dry cleaning service and a safe that allows the guest to set the pin to lock the safe. A large TV and many rooms have views of skyscrapers. It is quiet at night. The bed is comfortable. The bathroom has an energy-saving function that requires the guest to press the button for 3 seconds to turn on the lights. This was not explained at the desk, nor are there instructions in the room about this feature. The master control and shower head are at opposite ends of the shower, so it's a bit awkward to turn on the water as you move back and forth to get it to your liking. The window, on the 22nd floor, opens enough to allow a breeze through, but only enough for an adult to stick an arm out of the opening. The selection of food options in-house is great, with a very large pantry on the lobby floor. There are no prices for most of the items in the pantry, and it comes as a bit of a sticker shock. It would be nice if all prices were available as consumer-friendly options. The service staff who cleaned the rooms were just amazing. I did not put a sign out for no service, but the staff member on that floor checked on me each day, even when I did place the no-service sign, to ask if I needed towels or anything. Now the operators of this wonderful hotel must know that the area where cabs and cars arrive had such heavy use of marijuana that I think I got a contact high and my first ever case of the munchies. For a hotel that can cost up to 200-300 dollars a night to stay, this was an unexpected experience and one I hope not to repeat should I stay at your hotel again.

Although we grew up in the Chicago suburbs and know the city well, it was our first time staying at the Langham, and it left a strong impression. The most striking aspect was how spacious the room felt. We likely stayed in a Premier Room, which was quite large by city standards. The bed was massive, very comfortable, and just the right firmness. A detail that stands out is the space between the foot of the bed and the wall where the TV was mounted, which makes the room feel open and calm rather than cramped. The décor was elegant without feeling stuffy, highlighted by thoughtful touches like an espresso machine. The bathroom was another highlight: the frosted-glass window offered privacy while maintaining a sense of connection, and the rain shower had excellent water pressure and felt indulgent. The location is fantastic, convenient for work in the Loop, time in Grant Park, shopping on Michigan Avenue, or dining in River North or Fulton Market. During our trip, we ate nearby both nights, which made getting around easy and stress-free. The staff was warm and helpful throughout our stay, and breakfast at the hotel restaurant was memorable, even if the details are a bit hazy now. The lobby is beautiful, and several family members who stayed with us also commented on how much they enjoyed the hotel. At the time, pricing felt mid-range for a luxury hotel in Chicago, offering excellent value. It was summer, likely a less expensive time to visit, but even so, considering the room size, comfort, service, and location, it seemed like money well spent year-round. Thank you for such a wonderful experience. We would happily return and are eager to explore other Langham properties worldwide.

The Drawbacks * Dining at Terrace 16: Despite the convenience of a $60 daily breakfast credit, the morning meal at Terrace 16 is best avoided. The food quality does not meet expectations, and the pricing is high enough that guests will almost certainly exceed the allotted credit. * Value Proposition: Between the lackluster breakfast and the potential for high out-of-pocket costs at the restaurant, the dining experience significantly detracts from the overall value. This hotel was located within the loop near the river, shops, bars and restaurants. The hotel rooms are basic and small. We were fortunate to get an upgraded room with two queen beds and an amazing view out the window of the city. The window was large and clean. The beds were comfy with ample pillows. Four pillows were provided. The hotel set up is a bit awkward. Room is best for one person as lacks storage for large luggage. Plus there is not a defined bathroom. The shower is within the bedroom. Fortunately the shower was frosted but you walk right into the bedroom so you must be comfortable with those you stay with. Plus the room does really have a deck and chair to work. The desk is a fold down from the wall. The chair for the deck is located on the wall and not really suitable for long term working on sitting as does not have a back to it. The best thing above this hotel are the staff. The front desk staff are super friendly and accommodating and aim to please. The bartender was super friendly and attentive as well. Lastly parking is not available right at the hotel. You have to walk two blocks. Plus parking cost 59 dollars and that's the discounted rate. Also not really a suitable place to drop luggage off. If you pull up to the front door, you are blocking traffic. Base on price of 400 dollars the night we stayed, I would say it's not worth the stay. Maybe it's worth 200 or less for Chicago.

With _ALL_ taxes and fees accounted for, the price came out to $105.50 per night. Considering the prime location, this was an extremely good deal. At the time I booked (around 2 months before my visit), most hotels in the area were advertised upwards of $150/night. The room is humble, and really only comes with the basic essentials. The only sort of luxury you'll find in the room is a television set, but they're 32" 720p (Model #NS-32D310NAS21) , so you're likely not going to use them. Put frankly, this is the kind of hotel you'd use if you're just needing a place to spend the night -- and for what I needed -- it fit perfectly. There's Ethernet and Wi-Fi, but the WiFi signal was terrible in my room, I got a whopping 100ms ping, with 1.79 Mbps down and 1.90 Mbps up. Again, this didn't really matter to me, as I just needed a place to sleep. The shower was warm, but the water pressure was pretty meager. I found the front desk staff to be fairly friendly on the times I needed to interact with them, so I appreciate that. All in all: this is the perfect southern Chicago hotel for the single budget-conscious traveller.

At the time I thought this was the height of what I in my younger days considered urban chic and expense account luxe...at least until the Great Recession reared its head, ushering in the end of this heady era. More recently, I happened upon the Midland Hotel on an early autumn evening, as I was running early for an event taking place nearby. I opted to stop in for a pregame libation and found myself immediately regretting my choice. The bar setup felt corporate yet seedy at once. It was clear the Old Fashioned I ordered on deal was premixed. While I do not like to badmouth anything having to do with personnel during this post-Covid era, with all of the challenges it has wrought, the service here stood out for its indifference. There were three servers chatting among themselves behind the bar and only a couple of patrons who already had drinks. When I asked for water and subsequently a straw, I was met with a guised eyeroll and "anything else?" Fortunately, I was able to enjoy my drink in peace as I texted my friend where I was, so we could meet up and walk to the event together. It was a tale of two bars, as when my male drinking companion arrived, the server immediately turned on the charm. She also treated me observably more warmly when she noticed that I was accompanied by a man. I'm dismayed, but not shocked, that such retrograde attitudes exist in what is almost 2026 America. In any event, this bar served its purpose as a meeting point, but I probably wouldn't go out of my way to revisit.
