I've lived in the East Bay for over 20 years and just recently discovered this hidden gem thanks to a friend. Tucked away along the winding backroads of Castro Valley, this charming winery feels like a little secret escape. It's quiet, secluded, and has a really welcoming vibe. The staff was super friendly and made us feel right at home. I learned the winery has been around since 2003 and produces around 1,000 cases a year. All sold exclusively at the vineyard. We did a tasting that included a sparkling, two whites, two reds, and ended with a fun slushy rosé. Honestly, I liked every single one which never happens for me! After the tasting, we didn't want to leave. The setting was so relaxing, we ended up opening one of the two bottles we bought and spent the rest of the afternoon soaking it all in. A few tips if it's your first time: tastings are only offered on the second and fourth weekends of each month. There's a $10 tasting fee for six wines, but it's waived if you purchase a bottle (which are very reasonably priced at around $16). They don't sell food, but you're welcome to bring your own, something we'll definitely do next time. So glad we found this place such a peaceful spot, just minutes from home. I have had the pleasure to attend a comedy show in the vines at this winery as well as enjoy wine slushies on a Sunday afternoon. Recently I was able to attend a benefit for Nobody's Perfekt Dogs and Cats. There were vendors raising money and animals up for adoption. The owners are so welcoming and are so excited to share their story of how their winery came to be. I love the fact that this is so close to my little town and that I don't always have to drive out to Livermore or Napa for a great bottle of wine. This would be a wonderful venue for a family gathering as well as a reunion or birthday celebration. Wine tasting is done primarily outside and I am curious if the winery will be open and available when it starts getting cold. I would love to see a tent with heaters and tables in the wintertime. There's no better time than the present, in the sun, rain, sleet or snow to enjoy a great glass or bottle of wine. I will be back without a doubt. read more

I've been visiting the Napa, Sonoma, and Paso Robles area for years. We were hoping to have something like that in our backyard but we're unfortunately very disappointed with the experience and product. The people were a little on the arrogant side which isn't an unheard of characteristic in the wine scene, but it was more than my usual experience. To be blunt, the wines were mediocre at best. I wouldn't be embarrassed to serve them at a backyard BBQ but I wouldn't serve them for a nice dinner party (my wife is a chef). read more

My husband & I were looking for a winery to try out near Lake Chabot to take a friend to who was visiting from out of town. A morning hike around Lake Chabot followed by wine tasting at this boutique family winery turned out to be such an awesome day! Friendly tip: If you plan to visit TwiningVine, be sure to check their website for up-to-date visiting info. They're only open the 2nd & 4th weekend of the month from March through September for wine tasting. We were lucky enough to go the last Sunday of August, and it was a gorgeous, sunny day! Their wine tasting experience is set in a beautiful area outdoors in the shade of a beautiful oak tree near their big red barn. You have your choice of sitting up at a bar area, tall tables with stools, or various cushiony patio furniture spread out amongst the trees, plants and water fountains. It's really relaxing and picturesque! Javier was our main server/wine tasting expert, and he was very personable, friendly and knowledgeable of the wines. Ruby also stepped in towards the end and was great too! They even introduced us to the owners of the winery which was a nice little treat as well! Javier told us that they had just bottled a new Chardonnay, and gave us a taste of that first. I think it was my favorite, but that may also be because it was warm outside and the rest of the tasting menu were reds! Very picturesque venue that's close to home. I love how the hosts will come and pour your wine samples, quickly describe what they're serving and then leave you to your own devices. No pressure to buy, no long winded explanations whether you want it or not, just quick, friendly bare bones explanation creating such a relaxing, wine tasting atmosphere with no crowds & barely any cars passing by to disturb you. A hidden gem in the backwoods of Castro Valley. We came here for a work event and got to enjoy a wide selection of their wines. I loved their tempranillo and their Cab Sauvignon was good as well; most of the wine prices were less than $30 which was wildly reasonable for the quality of wine being served. It isn't the largest or prettiest property but does have a paved outdoor space if you want to host a group event here. If you're looking for a solid tasting that won't break the bank and you aren't looking for that picturesque winery view and ambiance of Sonoma, Napa, or even Livermore, then you won't go wrong visiting this place. read more

So, I'm a little conflicted about giving this review. I really want this place to be a secret, but it's so lovely I have to share. My cousin and I got some cheese and crackers with some fruity preserves and a little salad and headed to this winery. Please note it is only open every other weekend, so check the website or subscribe to their newsletter for days and hours. We both got a tasting for $10 each, which were waved after we bought 4 bottles! Every wine we tried was delicious. Sparkling, Chardonnay, and a variety of reds. The staff are so nice and knowledgeable. You will also most likely meet the owners which you don't really get at wineries. The grounds are beautiful. Comfy seating areas are spread out. And there is a great lawn area with trees. Everything was shaded during the warm day. I recommend going alone if you want a quiet self care day or going with friends for a casual day. In the SPRING they will open the second and fourth week of the month. So be aware folks. Check their site for any updates! Either way got the times right and headed over to get out tasting on. The place itself is really lovely once you get past the winding road. The winery is very chill, surrounded by beautiful land and the weather was perfect! Tastings are $10 a pop but are waived if you get a bottle. I picked up a bottle of the merlot and the zin-gio, my personal favs. We were served by Kelsey who was very friendly. It's a little chilly, but they have patio heaters. I really like this beautiful winery in the Castro Valley. The Rose' was delicious and paired well with my fig jam, toasted sourdough, and strawberries. The Cab/Merlot blend was delicious with my Mitica Drunken Goat cheese from Whole Foods. The Cab Franc paired with kalamata olives! It was on point. I can't wait for the Chardonnay release. Not a local, drove all the way out here to visit Closed, it's on a windy beautiful backroad thank god my cousin lived close and it wasn't stuck in horrendous traffic but it was busy. Such an amazing little gem tucked away in the hills of Castro Valley. We live 10 mins away and I'm bummed I didn't hear about them sooner. We came for their harvest event and we were disappointed. Had some lovely wine and did a bit of holiday shopping. The staff was so nice and the other event goers were equally friendly. Unfortunately this was their last event of the year. Plant Nite brought me here and I loved the Chardonnay and Rose' so much it might be the reason I return. This quaint winery is hidden in the hills of Castro Valley which means cell service is non existent (at least for ATT, Sprint and TMobile users) so be prepared to unplug and enjoy the wine, good company and the outdoors. Ladies save the heels for another day, the gravel,rocks and dirt aren't a good match. Tons of great photo ops in the vines or with the big red barn as your backdrop. read more

A friend saw the sign on Crow Canyon Road and suggested we try it out. Small winery that is only open two weekends a month because they all have other jobs. The tasting of six wines was only $10! Hopes were low, but at the very least, we would find out if it was any good. Spoiler: It was! Setting: Down a winding, tree lined road onto a gravel drive bothered by vines and finished by a charming red barn. The outdoor granite (?) bar is situated under a large oak tree. Beyond, a lush green lawn for picnicking and several seating areas, well separated. Three of us sat at the bar. One of the three is a wine lover, the other two of us are barely wine drinkers. TLDR: Beautiful, peaceful setting, great service and yummy mid-range wines. This barely a wine drinker liked and purchased 5 of the 6 offerings.(unheard of if you know me) The other NWD bought two bottles and the wine-fancier bought a mixed case. You can also bring your own picnic basket or buy some snacks there to go with your wine. read more

We were here Friday night for a play put on by non-profit Plethos Productions. First, props to the winery for making themselves available for that - so great that they support the arts. Second, what an incredibly friendly crew. Everyone was so welcoming. Third, we loved the wine. I had the chardonnay, my husband had the red blend, both of us were happy. Fourth, lovely outdoor setting. Plenty of parking, tables, vines, bocce ball and horseshoe pits. Tastings are complementary, so there is NO REASON not to try them out. read more

I have to give HUGE thanks to Teddy and the Twiningvine crew for an AMAZING day! About 20 of my dearest friends wanted an excuse to spend time together, and it's hard enough to set a date let alone find a place to accommodate us--and of course we throw something together last min (2 days to plan!) I made tons of phone calls to the more known wineries only to get ridiculous prices or the run around to call 3 other people (some not very nice). I took the leap and did a yelp search and stumbled upon this page. Gave it a shot and Teddy called me back within a few hours. She was soooo easy to talk to and sounded like a fun person! Even with the 20 of us, I guess we were like and event, but not really an event (hard to understand if you weren't there) but Teddy got us! We just wanted to wine taste and picnic. She was awesome, she set us up in a secluded area and I brought snacks and a light lunch for my friends. She was so organized! Had us parked in a certain area and had wine glasses ready for us (basically like our best friend). Each staff member was SO nice, we learned a lot about their winery and felt a warm connection to everyone, even Merlot, their 17 year old puppy! Now let me tell you, before I stepped foot onto the property, the drive was so beautiful that I already fell in love. If you want to get away (without really getting away) you need to go here! The atmosphere is a perfect retreat with you tucked away in the hills. Onto the wine. One of the staff members said "trust me, each wine just gets better" and she blew our mind. After each tasting, she was right. We loved the next one just as much! (And not bc we were drinking--we paced ourselves!) we ended up buying at least 10 bottles!! --I won't say how many we finished For wine drinking pros, I think you'll find comfort in this winery and what they stand by. For those getting to know the taste of wine, this place is for you too! It's pretty dangerous bc it's so yummy! Nothing too sweet or dry (from what I tasted), but you can really taste everything they've put into each bottle. Such a craft! We were celebrating three birthdays and they were able to accommodate our group of about 25, with kids and pups too. They set up tables, chairs, and wine glasses for us in a cute little area where you could faintly hear the stream of Cull Creek. There was also a grass area where we could lay out our picnic blankets to enjoy the sun. The wine tasting was a delight. My favorite was their rosé.
