One of my favorite wineries in Livermore. I really love the outdoor area and the beautiful views. The staff is always welcoming, and I enjoy the variety of wines they offer. Upon arrival, we were treated to a complimentary drink, which was a nice touch. There's also plenty of parking available, making the whole experience very convenient.

This review is long overdue, but my husband set up wine tasting for myself, my mother, mother in law, as well as my sister in law. And we have so much fun! In addition to our wine, I ordered a charcuterie box - which was really tasty. There's green area in front where a lot of people were set up and relaxing on their blankets. It's very family friendly. I saw a few kids running around out front. Once you're in, there's a main outside area then an indoor/ outdoor area for members. We were luckily able to sit in that area and cool off. We were obviously surrounded by beautiful vineyards. I believe they had light jazz playing but we were having so much fun that I didn't really notice. The staff was knowledgeable about wine. And the all had amazing energy. I can't wait to go back.

Was here for a birthday celebration and let me just say, the view is beautiful! They have an unpaved parking area in the front. There's plenty of seating both indoor and outdoor once you head to the back of the building. Though at night, it can get a bit cold, they do provide blankets to help keep guests warm. I did wonder why they didn't take out the outdoor patio heaters since I did see a group of them not being used set aside. My husband asked for a sparkling water and they didn't have any. The bathroom can get a bit tight, especially when there are several girls waiting; the hallways to the bathroom is also a bit tight. This was my first time here and won't be my last.

I have visited McGrailed twice so far, and I'm not a fan of their wine.... but I love their establishment. The first time my friends and I did a tasting. Our group of 6 mutually agreed we do prefer wines elsewhere, but the ambiance is wonderful. The view is lovely. You do get charged for non-drinkers too, but my friend did get a soda in lieu of alcohol. My second visit was for morning yoga followed by a tasting. This time, we were inside. I still was not a fan of the wine and ended up giving it away to strangers. While I don't see myself coming back for just wine, I do see myself coming for other events.

The service was top notch. Very friendly and accommodating. We were welcomed with a cool glass of sparkling wine even before we sat down.

Beautiful vineyard with very nice indoor and outdoor spaces. We came for a work retreat without a reservation and they were able to accommodate us. Some of us had a glass and some of us did a tasting, they were very engaging and informed about the wine. We liked that outside food was welcome, but they also sell food and have artisan goods from local vendors.

Came on a Saturday afternoon on a walk in and was seated right away with a complimentary taste of their rosé! We were seated at their back shaded patio that overlooked Livermore's rolling yellow fields with cattle. They even had a few bocce ball courts! Our server Gayle took great care of us and was highly knowledgeable with their wine offerings. She explained to us that their vineyard is known for their award winning Cabernets, so I was eager to try them! She was so generous and had us sample some more wine, free of charge, one of which that wasn't even on the menu at the time (like their Reserve)! We went with their traditional tasting ($25/person) and every wine was delicious and different - just what you want in a tasting! A family run winery, I thought it was very wholesome that most of their wine were named after the McGrail grandchildren. They have a small selection of food for purchase at the front entrance. Packaged charcuterie sets and hummus are in the fridge and entirely self-serve. You take what you want and bring it to your table as your server adds it to your total tab after your tasting. Out of hunger, I picked up a small box of charcuterie for $12 that included 3 (lol) water crackers, 4 (lol) pieces of grapes, a dollop of hummus, 5 pieces of hard cheese, 3 spiced prosciutto slices, and a small tomato and peach(?) salad. The servings were laughable but hey, I was hungry! I'm not holding this against the winery since the boxes were from a separate catered company. We thoroughly enjoyed this laidback vineyard. It was a great change in pace without being too far from the city. Old friends playing dominoes, small groups indoors watching football on TV, squirrels running away with apples from the nearby apple tree - 10/10 good vibes! I just wish I had brought my own charcuterie and Uno! It's reaffirming to know that we have access to amazing wine without Napa prices!

This winery has picturesque views of the Livermore Valley and the local cattle. Upon our arrival we were greeted with a warm welcome and a splash of McGrails Peyton Page Sauv Blanc "2023", that was delicious and we ended our tasting with a glass. I then tasted five varietals, a family Chardonnay it had a grapefruit taste that was tart and pleasing to my palette. Their cabs weren't my favorite but their blends were spicy, fruit forward, and not too tannic. The wines are named after the grandchildren. It was a beautiful day with lots of wind. Our server was nice.

First time visiting the winery, great view, friendly staff. Our host Kendra is great. She understands our taste and customize the tasting for us. She helped make the experience more pleasant. We decided to do our tasting in one of their igloo overlook the fields which enhances the feel for tasting. We were able to try more wines that are not listed on the menu. The Sauvignon blanc surprisingly easy to drink, we like their 2020 Petit Verdot, 2022 cab franc, 2019 centennial are our favorite. Definitely ask for Kendra when you visit

Did a traditional wine tasting that day and I thought the wines were pretty good. They have a nice ground and ample seatings to choose from whether it's indoor or outside. They let you bring your own food or snacks too. One of the must visit wineries in Livermore.

Mcgrail is always so good, the best staff! They have such a great selection and stories behind their bottles! Also one of the best views in Livermore with a beautiful patio! Stacy was the best!

Such a fun time at barrel weekend ! They had a great set up with live music, 6 stations of wine and open tables with a field for children / bocce ball. It was an energetic atmosphere with two barrel wines and 4 current releases. The cab sav and the shamus Patrick were my favorite. The staff was so informational and friendly as well. They had a food truck and gelato as well! So fun

Ask the Community - McGrail Vineyards and Winery

Does the winery sell any snacks, appetizers, or food?

Yes- they sell some pre-packaged sandwiches and salads (they are in in a refrigerated display), and I believe some pre-packaged shelf stable snacks. On the weekends they usually have a vendor that sells freshly made pizzas in the patio area.…

    Can you bring a dog?

While we love animals, we kindly ask that you leave your lovable pup at home. Service animals are welcome. Cheers!…

    Can you picnic here?

    Yes.

So I have very mixed feelings about this place. Some things are incredible. Some things are not…read moreso great. I am a member of the "Legends" club. So that to me means it's top of the line membership as indicated by their pricing and what we get. So I feel I should get top notch deals, pricing and service. Turns out, we get the same shaft as the lower club members. Starting with the good, the location is pristine. Nice area with lots of room for kids and adults to mingle and play. The wine is also pretty darn good. Of course there are some better than others but I enjoy most of their wine. The service is also for the most part very good. The waitstaff is very friendly and makes you feel welcome. Their food is also pretty darn good. It's not incredible, and a bit overpriced but it's fine enough. Their wine pricing is also fair (but of course with the highest membership we get the biggest discount). My biggest complaints would be the price gouging and lack of communication. We made arrangements on a Friday to show Sunday with 6 and asked for the "VIP space upgrade to lounge or upstairs Vista Patio Lounge (when available)". They said no problem. When we showed on Sunday they said it was closed with no notice. Just a sorry. OK whatever. We sit inside (6 people and 2 children) and they charge for 2 children a "non drinker" charge of $10 ($5 each). A head count charge for non-drinkers? For children? Total nonsense! I am spending over $1,200 a year here and you want to gouge me for someone's kids? Their tastings are $40 a pop which is really crazy. Our price is waived on this so that's fine but if you are not a member you are paying a lot for a little. The wines do take a bit of time to come and they don't give you a lot. Kind of a bummer waiting for the taste. We ended up with 4 appetizers (sliders $24, Charcuterie $25, Tater Tots $12 and Pretzel Bites with Grilled Sausage $16) 2 bottles of wine and $4.25 for water and the bill was over $250. Oh and top that off, with 6 people, they charge a mandatory 20% on the bill for a tip and are basing that with taxes (as the button default), not the actual sub-total so they are actually getting about 23%. All in all, I am not sure that the cost is worth what you get. I mean we are giving them a lot of money just to be members and then having to pay more and more for anything else that really should be included (like water and kids) makes this place just a bit too over-rated for me. Probably end my club membership in the fall and go someplace that doesn't place money first.
