I came here for a company outing, so this review is not your typical wine tasting experience. As soon as I entered the parking lot, I had to whip out my camera. This place is really beautiful, with fountains, gardens, vineyards, and cabanas. As I entered, the staff was really friendly and immediately offered me a glass of wine. We had reserved the entire outdoor cabana area, but since it was raining, we moved the party indoors. The indoor area is really nice with wooden tables and fresh flowers. What's nice is that we can bring food in, so we had food doordashed in. They also have games like corn hole and jenga available. It was a wonderful afternoon of eating, drinking, and walks around their vineyards. My coworker said she has attended a wedding and a birthday party here. This is a great venue for a special event. It's not as large as Concannon or Wente. It's rustic and charming. I'm not a wine drinker, so I can't comment on the quality of their wines. read more

Went for a nice Saturday wine tasting and picnic. The winery is a Cabernet location. You will find a rosé, but it has. It's a rosé with cab and Merlot . We experienced the traditional wine tasting. Brad had great sense of humor and educational. The only downside was there wasn't a great food selection therefore highly encourage bringing your own. After our wine tasting, we did go and sit on the front lawn area, which is open seating. We have brought two chair chairs with covers on them to block us from the sun. It was a nice relaxing afternoon after having the wine. We listened to a book took a little cat nap and then left. read more

This review is long overdue, but my husband set up wine tasting for myself, my mother, mother in law, as well as my sister in law. And we have so much fun! In addition to our wine, I ordered a charcuterie box - which was really tasty. There's green area in front where a lot of people were set up and relaxing on their blankets. It's very family friendly. I saw a few kids running around out front. Once you're in, there's a main outside area then an indoor/ outdoor area for members. We were luckily able to sit in that area and cool off. We were obviously surrounded by beautiful vineyards. I believe they had light jazz playing but we were having so much fun that I didn't really notice. The staff was knowledgeable about wine. Was here for a birthday celebration and let me just say, the view is beautiful! They have an unpaved parking area in the front. There's plenty of seating both indoor and outdoor once you head to the back of the building. Though at night, it can get a bit cold, they do provide blankets to help keep guests warm. I did wonder why they didn't take out the outdoor patio heaters since I did see a group of them not being used set aside. My husband asked for a sparkling water and they didn't have any. The bathroom can get a bit tight, especially when there are several girls waiting; the hallways to the bathroom is also a bit tight. This was my first time here and won't be my last. read more

I have visited McGrailed twice so far, and I'm not a fan of their wine.... but I love their establishment. The first time my friends and I did a tasting. Our group of 6 mutually agreed we do prefer wines elsewhere, but the ambiance is wonderful. The view is lovely. You do get charged for non-drinkers too, but my friend did get a soda in lieu of alcohol. My second visit was for morning yoga followed by a tasting. This time, we were inside. I still was not a fan of the wine and ended up giving it away to strangers. While I don't see myself coming back for just wine, I do see myself coming for other events. read more

Came on a Saturday afternoon on a walk in and was seated right away with a complimentary taste of their rosé! We were seated at their back shaded patio that overlooked Livermore's rolling yellow fields with cattle. They even had a few bocce ball courts! Our server Gayle took great care of us and was highly knowledgeable with their wine offerings. She explained to us that their vineyard is known for their award winning Cabernets, so I was eager to try them! She was so generous and had us sample some more wine, free of charge, one of which that wasn't even on the menu at the time (like their Reserve)! We went with their traditional tasting ($25/person) and every wine was delicious and different - just what you want in a tasting! A family run winery, I thought it was very wholesome that most of their wine were named after the McGrail grandchildren. They have a small selection of food for purchase at the front entrance. Packaged charcuterie sets and hummus are in the fridge and entirely self-serve. You take what you want and bring it to your table as your server adds it to your total tab after your tasting. Out of hunger, I picked up a small box of charcuterie for $12 that included 3 (lol) water crackers, 4 (lol) pieces of grapes, a dollop of hummus, 5 pieces of hard cheese, 3 spiced prosciutto slices, and a small tomato and peach(?) salad. The servings were laughable but hey, I was hungry! I'm not holding this against the winery since the boxes were from a separate catered company. We thoroughly enjoyed this laidback vineyard. It was a great change in pace without being too far from the city. Old friends playing dominoes, small groups indoors watching football on TV, squirrels running away with apples from the nearby apple tree - 10/10 good vibes! I just wish I had brought my own charcuterie and Uno! It's reaffirming to know that we have access to amazing wine without Napa prices! read more

We stopped in without a reservation and were kindly accommodated before the rush. We sat on the covered, heated patio overlooking vineyards and grazing cows while a light rain added to the cozy atmosphere. Kendra was knowledgeable and engaging, sharing both wine insights and winery history without overdoing it. The Sauvignon Blanc was light and refreshing with notes of pineapple, peach, and pear--truly "sunshine in a bottle." The Merlot was more complex yet smooth, low in acidity, and easy to pair with food. Great service, beautiful setting, and solid wines make this a stop worth repeating. read more

Upon our arrival we were greeted with a warm welcome and a splash of McGrails Peyton Page Sauv Blanc "2023", that was delicious and we ended our tasting with a glass. I then tasted five varietals, a family Chardonnay it had a grapefruit taste that was tart and pleasing to my palette. Their cabs weren't my favorite but their blends were spicy, fruit forward, and not too tannic. The wines are named after the grandchildren. It was a beautiful day with lots of wind. We decided to do our tasting in one of their igloo overlook the fields which enhances the feel for tasting. We were able to try more wines that are not listed on the menu. Just rejoined after a few years and for good reasons. We only parted ways in the past because we wanted to frequent a different region. As you walk into this magnificent winery you are greeted with warm, friendly and sincere smiles like you're visiting family. We got a table on the edge of the east patio with a magnificent view of the entire Livermore valley looking towards Tracy. We prefer red wines and they offer several varietals that exceeded our expectations at a reasonable price point. I'm not a big fan of champagne in general but I was surprised how perfectly balanced and smooth theirs is and I enjoyed it immensely, it doesn't have that sharp, tartness at all. My favorite red wine is their 2001 A Jo Elet "The Good Life" cabernet sauvignon so we bought a case f it and coming back for more! The staff is very friendly and efficient! Kim was took care of us and she was very attentive despite the place bristling with patrons on a busy Sunday afternoon. She is very knowledgeable about the wines and shared some interesting facts. They have fun games such as cornhole and a bocce ball court, often live music and special events. We can't wait to visit again with some friends and have a great time. This was the first winery we visited when moving to Livermore in 2017. We joined the wine club that day and are still very happy members. The wine is some of the best in Livermore, especially the reds. Heather McGrail is incredibly friendly, welcoming, and visible despite having many other roles in the community. Besides great wine, breathtaking valley views, and a generous club member experience, they offer a great variety of events including summer evening concerts. My girlfriend bought us tickets to their "Celtic Wine and Seafood Festival, and we followed the instructions to bring chairs and blankets. They moved the venue due to heat in the back patio. Got it, but no email was sent out with the change. The "festival" with seafood and Irish music was one oyster stand that ran out of oysters and one decent Irish band. The 5 pours you got for $35 dollars were small. The servers were great, if I had gone just to see the winery I probably would've been fine. I was disappointed with event itself. I've been many festivals- this didn't really count as one. read more

So you know the wine is delicious and view is to die for. One of the best views in the valley is found here- and a nice breeze as well! The tastings are lovely- I especially like being able to see the vineyard where they grow the souzao and touriga grapes that show up in the red blend. The seating area is beautiful and comfortable. I learned a great deal about the wine and the vineyards from my server. I also love that they are open every day and they have a fantastic member benefit- a tour of the property to learn about the vineyard! They also have bocce ball courts, which is something we thought was fantastic. But wait- there's more! We had a very important event fall through and needed a new place to book. McGrail was incredibly kind to us and their facilities are perfection. The banquet room, with the barrels and chandeliers, is GORGEOUS. And the way they decorate it is simple perfection. I feel so lucky to be able to hold our event here and so very, very lucky to have Lisa Jackson helping me with the planning. McGrail easily accommodates food trucks for your event (many places do not) and they have a wonderfully adaptive set of spaces- which should be able to handle just about any event configuration. I cannot tell you how great it is to know your very important event is in safe hands. I feel so grateful to have landed at McGrail. Whether you are just going wine tasting with a few friends, or have a large event, McGrail would be a wonderful destination. read more

My daughter and I were in Livermore for a Mother/Daughter weekend and found ourselves at McGrail for their Friday night music night and it was a BLAST!! I don't remember the name of the band (just two guys) but they were so much fun and played 80's and 90's music. We sat outside on their lawn area which was absolutely perfect and the sunset was KILLER!! They had two food trucks. One served pizza and the other served dessert. We got two pizzas which were tasty but too along time to get. Being the only truck serving food, they were swamped. Two trucks would be shortened the wait time but needless to say, it hit the spot. We also bought two bottles of wine to drink during the concert (we Uber'd there) and then took home another two bottles along with some jam and marinades that they sell in the tasting room. This was by far the most fun we had during our trip and I'm so grateful. Thank you McGrail for helping us get our grove on and making some pretty great memories. read more

I LOVE McGrail! Me and a bunch of friends did some wine tasting at a few wineries and decided to cap our trip off at McGrail - what a great decision to save the best for last! The service was AMAZING and the servers were so knowledgeable (i wish I remembered our server's name ) about every single wine we were served. The wines were incredible and they were very generous with all of the pours. The seating area also overlooks this BEAUTIFUL field of grapevines and the rolling hills of Livermore Wine Country. Due to unexpected changes in our plans, I canceled the reservation yesterday afternoon through the Tock app -- which McGrail Vineyards uses for all bookings -- and was told I'd receive a full refund. However, after checking my account this morning, no refund has been issued. When I called the vineyard to follow up, I spoke with someone named Joy, who was rude, condescending, and completely unhelpful. Instead of assisting or even attempting to look up my reservation, she repeatedly said, "Sorry, I'm not able to help you," and blamed the issue on "a third-party app." When I asked to speak with a manager, she hung up the phone. I called back several times, and she refused to answer, forcing me to leave a voicemail. It's both confusing and unacceptable that McGrail's website directs customers to use Tock for all reservations and cancellations, yet their staff claims they can't access any related information. The lack of accountability and disrespectful customer service were incredibly disappointing. I would strongly caution anyone booking with McGrail Vineyards to be prepared for poor communication, unprofessional behavior, and zero follow-through if an issue arises. read more

My folks were in town for a visit, and I wanted to show them a bit of local charm by visiting some nearby wineries. After reviewing several options, I chose this one based on its strong reviews and the fact that it's a woman-owned winery, which meant something to both my mom and me. We made a reservation and paid in advance, expecting a warm and informative experience. Unfortunately, it fell flat. The greeting we received was lackluster. The receptionist simply pointed to a table where we could sit. There were five staff members standing around, and we were the only guests in the tasting room. It took nearly ten minutes for anyone to approach us, and only after I got up to ask the receptionist where our brand ambassador was. Our server, who had just turned 21, knew virtually nothing about the winery or the wines she was pouring. There was no storytelling or connection to the wine, and she never came back to ask if we enjoyed any of the pours. I ended up pulling up the website and reading descriptions aloud to my family for context. As for the wine itself, we all found it unremarkable and not to our taste. It would have been nice to be offered crackers at minimum between samples. The one bright spot was the gift shop, which my mom enjoyed browsing--hence the two stars. Aside from that, we couldn't leave fast enough. Disappointing overall. read more

The outdoor area overlooks the vineyards and is picturesque, however, even with the hearlamps, it was too cold to be out there on this cool/windy day. There is a covered outdoor tasting area with many tables and an uncovered area with a few large tables. The indoor tasting room has a large counter where you can stand and a few tables to sit. The wines were ok. Pours were scant. Nothing that we really loved so we didn't purchase any bottles. We probably would have purchased something if they would have waived the tasting fee, but I believe they would only waive it for multiple bottles purchased. I discovered this place off Yelp and Tock for wineries in Livermore. This winery definitely attracts more customers than another local spot I visited today. We were greeted with a complimentary taste of their sauvignon blanc as walk-in tasters. They offered $20 for basic tasting and $35 for the elevated tastings with their famous cabs. My fiance and I had one of each and we both enjoyed the cabs more! Staff were knowledgeable and friendly. The outside tables were close together so it can get a little noisy, but not too chaotic. read more
