My pupper and I took a walk from the Faction record swap event and stumbled upon this gem! If you drive past the fence, you will find this on the right. Staff was so friendly and helpful, I can't rave enough about them! What got me was the view of San Francisco. Since I needed a break, I decided to go with a glass of their Cab Franc which they use Dry Creek gapes. For me, this hit the right notes. They have a regular food vendor on site and the prices are reasonable. Unfortunately, I wasn't hungry but if I was, I would have definitely ordered. I actually think of going back to this place. I could see being here during the week on a nice day, reading a book or doom scrolling with a glass of wine. There is something so zen about it that it's worth going back. We got a little confused getting here. Just make sure to drive all the way down and there's a gate you go through where you can park. The view of the city is great if you're outdoors. We tried the 3 flights of wine and all of them were pretty good. Unfortunately, the bees kept coming to us and our wines despite moving to 3 different tables. One of them even fell into my cup of wine! Pam was kind enough to give me a new glass of wine. Scott was very nice and brought water bowls with treats for our dogs. Beautiful winery, beautiful views, great service! Went there on a hot Saturday afternoon and it was great because you could feel the sea breeze and there was plenty of shade. We were able to easily make a reservation online the morning of our tasting. Upon arrival we were greeted and seated outside right away. They do specialize in Zinfandel's so if that's not what you like, this may not be for you. I mainly drink cabs and Chardonnay but I enjoyed many of the Zins being offered. I will be back! read more

We had a tasting here, and while the service was nice and pours generous, I wasn't especially in love with the outdoor area. It was very industrial. It was our bad for going on a particularly windy day, but there was little shelter from the elements. What an adorable little tasting room! Dashe Cellars is nestled a couple blocks away from Jack London Square just a few doors down from Nido Restaurant. I dropped by one afternoon while doing to an Oakland wine walk in Jack London Square. The tasting room is located in a small warehouse and has that rustic yet casual feel to it. It's nicely decorated with the cutest light fixtures, and you'll have a wonderful view of their wine barrels as you sip on their wines in the tasting room. They also have a wine garden but it was closed when I went (it's closed during the winter time). They hosts several events throughout the year and I'm looking forward to attending one when the weather warms up again. All of the wine stewards that I encountered were exceptionally friendly! Scott and Jose in particular were really fun to chat with and they were very knowledgeable about all of the wines that they poured. A tasting costs $15 and includes 5 tastes from their current tasting menu. The fee is waived with a bottle purchase of $35 or more. As for their wines; they're pretty damn scrumptious! What I enjoyed most about their wines was that many of them were grown in different AVA regions! They had wines from Dry Creek Valley, Mendocino, Alexander Valley, Sonoma, and even Antioch of all places! And the best part about it was that they all tasted wonderful! They are known for their Zinfandels and rightfully so. Their Mendocino Zinfandel was fruity, jammy, and had a nice touch of spice to it that I absolutely adored! I love tasting in the Anderson Valley/Mendocino area, so it's surprise that this Zin was my fave of the bunch. They've also got a nice assortment of cheese, charcuterie, and light snacks to pair along with those lovable wines. I really had a wonderful experience here! If I were to nitpick about one thing, I would just mention that some of the sommeliers were a bit too pushy for my taste. I worked in the sales industry for many years, so I get it. However, some people might find this a little uncomfortable. If you want people to continue to come back, you might want some of your wine stewards to tone down the aggressiveness just a tad. Found this winery during a wine stroll with the assistance of some highly rated Yelp reviews, (thanks, y'all!). We enjoyed their selection, particularly their Comet, a delicious red blend. While we were there enjoying a tasting in their large and spacious room, we happened across a flyer for their Annual Paella Fest which was to take place on a few weeks from our current visit. We quickly pre purchased our tickets as it was explained they have sold out in the past and it was by rsvp & advance sale only. They had me at Paella! And paired with some powerhouse wines, we were definitely highly anticipating the event! Left there with a couple bottles of Comet. Fast forward to the big event! So glad we ore purchases because the line was wrapped outside the building prior to the start time of the event. We were all finally greeted and were given a glass to keep as we went around sampling barrel tastings, mingling with the diverse group of guess & enjoying fruit, cheese, nuts & meat pairings as we al anticipated the delicious smelling huge paella pans that the chefs were hard at work preparing. As we enjoyed these things, Flamenco dancers with artfully graced the stage with their dramatic & beautiful style dance! It was spectacular! We usually got to the breweries in alameda but opted for wine this time around. First off the view is spectacular! Literally the best view of the city. Everything else was just ok. We walked to the host stand and waited around for a few minutes for anyone to show up. Finally someone came and seated us. Since it was our first time there he shared a little information about the company which was very insightful. He let us know they're known for their Zinfandels so I ordered that flight while my partner ordered the taste of Dasche flight. One of my glasses had things floating in it so I flagged down our server. He shared that they're an organic cellar and it's just settlements of the wine making process. Still gross to see things floating, but I accepted it and moved on. We ordered the charcuterie box to snack on. There were lots of different cheeses but the pretzel things were gross, they shouldn't be refrigerated in my opinion, and the jam it came with did not taste pleasant. Being an avid wine taster I found the wine to just be ok. I'm only giving it 3 starts strictly because of the view. They have a rather large area outside where, on a nice sunny day, you can sit and sip on wine and enjoy the view. Inside, it's basically a giant warehouse with barrels everywhere. Hubby and I shared a tasting for $15 which included 5-6 different wines. They waive the tasting fee with a $35 bottle purchase. (Their bottles range from around $20-40, give or take.) I actually really enjoyed most of the wines we tasted from here! We ended up leaving with 2 bottles. Definitely would come back with our dog! Lovely views and wines are tasty but the service could have been much more efficient. My friend and I dropped in on a warm Saturday afternoon, asked if we could sit inside due to it very warm outside. The woman behind the counter asked if we had a reservation - mind you, it was empty inside except for 1 other table of 2 people. She then asked if we would be having flights because she said she didn't think she'd be able to serve us those at the counter- odd but okay, whatever! I told her we didn't want flights, we just wanted to buy a bottle to drink there and she said she thought that was okay but needed to check w/her manager. So if it's okay to order a bottle and drink outside on the patio, why wouldn't it be okay to drink inside at the counter?? She then trotted off to ask away and came back saying it was fine. After sitting inside for a bit, we started to get a little too chilly so we moved outside to the patio. I flagged down a young male to ask if he could seat the 2 of us and he asked if we had reservations - again, the patio was far from full w/several empty tables in the shade. I said no and he starts to walk us over to a table in the blazing sun, no umbrella or anything over it. I told him that wouldn't work at all, it was too warm in the sun, so he pulls a tiny round table and 2 chairs out of the sun into the shade and seats us there - while the other larger/shaded tables that could be easily split apart if needed, sat empty the entire time we were there (~30 mins or less). While I will definitely be back at some point, I'd highly recommend that management drop the odd rules about reservations - this is Alameda not Napa, after-all. read more

I was impressed with a couple of things. Their 2007 Zinfandel L'Enfant Terrible was nothing like I had ever tasted before. It's complex, lower in alcohol and unfiltered. It really does grow on you with every sip that you take. The woman filling our glasses was very informative, friendly and patient. Last but not least, regarding their Late Harvest Zinfandel with the dark chocolate. OK, I know a lot of people have commented on it in their reviews... but If for some terrible reason I were ever rendered unable to have sex ...this would be my back-up plan. How on earth did I leave there without a bottle of it? Ohhh...right, right because by the time we came back for the dessert wine, we were on winery #5 of the tour. I'll be back to pick up a few. Covid-safe - see pics. It is outdoors with ample spacing between tables. Masks required. Parking - Lots of it. Park in front of the smoke stack and walk to the back. Offerings - see pics. Reservation required. Time limit on table. Outdoor setup with a gorgeous view of SF across the water. Dashe Cellars share the tables with Urban Legend next door - so you can try 2 wineries at one table. There is a food truck, Gerard's Paella. You pay each company separately. The server only serves for their establishment. Food truck is walk up. Dashe wasn't for me. The cab franc was spicy - not what I expected. The cab was a cab. The server said zins were their thing but none of them were mine. This is just my palette - you might be the opposite. But if you feel the same - they still have bubbles. We put our masks on when it was time to pay and knew to expect the server. Payment for Dashe was on a portable device the size of an ipad - so you need to touch it to make payment. Urban Legends uses a different payment device that's a handheld and I avoided touch by sliding my card in. Our Urban Legend server was very warm and friendly. She even did a background check on the rosato for us. It was delicious! We didn't try anything else there. It's really nice to have an outdoor space where you can feel safe and relax some :). Wine in the heart of down town Oakland doesn't get much better than this!! I love Dashe and their s per chill people that are friendly and great at pours. Dashe has some awesome Zinfandel and the last time we went we actually joined the wine club. Im usually don't because I have commitment issues (LOL). We went today to pick up our first wine club shipment and bought tickets for small bites and wine tasting in the patio. The patio is sunny and relaxed and we tried each of the bottles in our shipment. Old vine Zin is always one of my favs. They had small bites to eat and limited seating so most people shared the tables and that was fine. There was also some folk type music. Good environment I just wish that they would have been quicker at bringing out the food. We got there at 1 and it started at 12 most of the food was gone and they would slowly serve again. The food servers where not friendly nor did they say Hi or acknowledge anyone when I was there. The wine pourers on the other hand were great and had awesome insight on each wine we tasted. I wouldn't pay $25 for that next time as the food was scarce but would just go to the regular wine tasting as we usually do. I also love their dessert wine. Great first experience! Was a little tricky to find at first just because I wasn't sure if I could drive that far up - you can. I expected the chill and brought a jacket, but also appreciated they had blankets available for guests, if needed. It was a cold day so only a few tables were in use. Met up with a couple of friends and we all did a tasting, then split a bottle. It was the perfect space for us to chat and catch up, without feeling like we were competing with music, other people, etc. Our server was just the right amount of attentive in checking on us when our tastings were getting low, then giving us some time to wrap up and say goodbye when they closed for the evening. Underwhelming wines and uncomfortable environment. I came here with 2 friends and I mentioned my wine priority pass and the staff looked at me confused and almost mad (??). Maybe you shouldn't have an offer if you're going to be mad when people ask about it or bring it up. The wines weren't out of this world, I didn't feel compelled to buy anything. However, I have been to the neighboring business, Urban Legend, several times since they also have an outdoor patio area with views of SF's skyline and have YET to taste one bad wine from them and the staff are ALWAYS warm, informative, and welcoming. read more

I loved this urban winery nestled a little off the Oakland wine tour beaten path. Not far by any means (actually just a few blocks from the Lake Merritt Bart stop), but definitely worth the trek. This is a full fledge wine production facility, tasting room and wine bar. We opted for the $10 wine flight which is waived when you purchase a bottle and no doubt, you will. Their whites are so unique: not overbearingly sweet and fruity. Their Zinf, WHOA! Light and dry, I loved it. Indoor ambiance is nil. It's a warehouse with a small tasting bar. Very cool, but definitely not a spot that I'd spend hours enjoying their wonderful wines (especially during the winter as it was a bit chilly). They do have an outdoor area where come spring and summer you can enjoy drinking outdoors which I'd imagine is much more enjoyable. Occasionally, they'll be live music and even some food trucks on certain nights, so sign up for their newsletter! Our wine attendant (?) was awesome. So informative, not pushy and hooked it up with some great tastings. Such great vibes and a nice little community. Woo Hoo! Two stops in one! Now what is your favorite date? A movie? A hike in the forest? A walk on the beach? Concert? Play? An all nighter in front of the X-Box? Club hopping and dancing? A nice meal at a cool, Yelp-approved restaurant? For sheer romanticism and really getting to know someone, I have to go with making a nice meal together and all that entails: wine drinking both red & white and maybe some Champagne, flirty and humorous conversation, A fantastic playlist (Soul, blues, Prince...some silky jazz vocalists like Stacey Kent, Madeleine Peyroux, Diana Krall, Annie Sellick, etc.), maybe some light dancing, candle lit interior paired with good enough weather to sit outside, multiple courses including at least one cheese and one dessert course, definitely some touching and kissing (Or go full Journey with Lovin, Touchin, squeezin), maybe a pinning up against the wall at some point ;) Now the wine you choose for this type of date has to be better than average. Something with some soul, earthiness, a bit deeper than your two buck chuck. That's what I was thinking as I had the last few wines at Dashe Cellars; two wonderful Old Vine Zinfandels that had that soulfulness but also a sense of place, a feeling that what you were drinking could only be grown and made here. One of the cool things Rock Wall Winery did when I was there was hand me a postcard for a free tasting at Dashe One of their former workers is now at Dashe and I was set up for the tasting. I had all reds and the first ones were definitely big, fruit forward wines. At first, wasn't sure that i was going to like the wines here in spite of the good service but then the Todd Brothers and Lovaue Vineyard wines came out and this was it. These were big wines too but full of that earthy character that can be the best of California Zin when it is in balance. These wines from the 2009 Vintage as well as a taste of the 2010 New Release from Todd Brothers were the types of wines that beg to be consumed with someone special, while you are doing something special like cooking a romantic dinner together :) So nice staff, free tasting with referral (although i think they have a Yelp free tasting offer too), another winery located 5 feet away and tremendous Old Vine Zins; this is a highly recommended stop! read more

I've been drinking Dashe Wines for years, and while some might call it a name bias if you know my son (Dash), I'd say it's just pure oenophilic pleasure. Mike D has been making amazing wines in the Sonoma style for years, and out of Oakland no less. A few months ago, I was at Arlequin and he was there pouring tastes, so I jumped at the chance to meet him, and now bug him on occasion with threats of visiting his tasting room in the East Bay. Mike even hand-delivered the wine, and it's that sort of personal service that in the end can really draw you into being a customer for life. Hence, my appreciation for Dashe, a lovely tasting room in the heart of an industrial area within Oakland. Went there for my friend's birthday, not really expecting the great experience that I had. Why should you go to Dashe? 1) It's in your back yard. Obviously if the weather is perfect, and you have the time to drive to Napa, GO TO NAPA, but if you're just looking for something quick and fun, with great wine, and nice people, go to the Dashe Tasting room 2) The wine is excellent (fyi: way better if you aerate it--so get out your decanter) 3) IMHO the wine is well priced. If you've ever had Plumpjack, you'll feel me when I say that wine of that caliber costs about that much. One of the East Bay's gems of a winery nestled in Jack London Square along with the likes of JC Cellars, Rosenblum Cellars and a few others, I was stoked up finally visit after having first tried their wine in Boston years ago. The portfolio focuses on single vineyard Zinfandels and includes some delicious Petite Syrah and Grenache as well. The Les Enfants Terribles series made using Old World methods from Anne Dashe of the husband & wife team stood out in particular as I absolutely loved the Zin from Heart Arrow Ranch, a biodynamic vineyard in Mendocino County. On that note, the varietals come from vineyards around that region as well as Dry Creek Valley and Alexander Valley in neighboring Sonoma County. The folks here are top notch behind the tasting bar and the patio area is sweet as there's loads of comfortable seating where you can kick back with a glass of whatever's pouring that day. read more
