This place is a new favourite. I had the jasmine green bubble milk tea, and the BBQ tofu with rice. It was really, really good. I love simple vegetarian food and my meal was exactly what I hoped. First time picking up from Twisted Soul. Menu is pretty neat with good variety. I eat vegan and gluten so that can be a challenge. Not a problem here. I had several choices. I ordered bbq tofu arepas, yucca fries and a North African flavor salad with romaine. Takeout can be challenging with presentation and loses some taste by the time you get home. Our ride was 30 minutes but No worries. 45 seconds in the microwave did nothing to change the dish. My meal was very flavorful. It looked pretty. Service was solid and friendly. Super tasty fusion food in Poughkeepsie, New York. We are from LA and visiting the local colleges for tours and had time to explore the town a little bit. We had a chance to eat at the CIA the night before and the food there was alright but I had better. After our tour at Vassar College, we were hungry and chose to eat here. The food is good but it's time for them to open back up. I was there on 3/3/22. Vaccine checks and mask mandates have been lifted statewide. Yet for some bizarre reason, Twisted Soul still acts like we are in the middle of the Black Death. Not only is there no indoor dining, you're not even permitted in the restaurant for pick up. They have tables blocking the front door and you have to stand outside in the cold and wait for them to hand the food to you out the door. Come on guys. It's time to rejoin the world. read more

First, i LOVE the food and the staff at this place. Can't seem to resist ordering the Malaysian curry noodles with Filipino chicken adobe and sweet potato noodles every time i go, despite wanting to try other things. ( i HAVE tried other things, and they're all excellent). Here's my problem: a few months ago i would have given them 5 stars. since then, they've removed several standard height tables for 4 and replaced them with small high-tops. these are much less comfortable and, if you have a party of 4, then two of you are facing a wall if those small tables are pushed together. There are only 2 tables for 4 left in the restaurant and they're in the very front by the window. Today, each of these tables for 4 had 2 people sitting at them. We were a party of 4 and didn't want the high tops facing the wall. We left. Later on, passing by, we saw a different couple sitting at one of the 4-tops. I understand there is limited space, but they could put a sign on each of the 4-tops saying they're reserved for 4 people. I'm really sad about this and might have to stop going with my friends until this is fixed. Or maybe they don't want parties of 4? I will change my review to 5 stars if and when that gets corrected. I've been about four times, and each time left happy. Let me forewarn you, there's no decor to speak of, so this is not an impress-a-date place. The space is narrow and long, and you have to go up to the counter and order. Mostly tapas-type items, so you can try a variety if you go with a group as I did. The food itself is good to great, especially some of the Asian items. We ordered a bunch of stuff, and I was happy with all of it, especially the arepas and the noodle bowls. Love this place! The arepas, chickpea fries, and yuca fries with chutney are amazing. I wouldn't no about the other food, because I usually switch between those same three items every time, but I'm sure everything else is just as delicious. I've come to Twisted Soul for lunch a couple of times now, and have also enjoyed several empanadas at their Farmers Market stands. Overall, it's a fun place for a casual lunch that has an interesting "fusion" approach: you'll find empanadas and arepas listed side by side on the menu with bubble tea and noodle bowls. The physical space in which Twisted Soul is set isn't great. Because the restaurant is located in a storefront, the room is very long with little space for diners to sit. Tables of two are on one side of the room, across from the counter, while a single table for four is located in the window. My most recent trip was made on a particularly cold January day, and, the room was very chilly to say the least (we ended up keeping our jackets on). That being said, the local artwork on the wall was a nice touch, and helped with the feel of the place somewhat. During my most recent visit, we waited awhile for our food, which seemed to be a trend judging from the other tables around us. When it did arrive, it was in pieces: two entrees came together, the third arrived a couple of minutes later, and the fourth (a special, which likely took more time to prepare) came a good five minutes behind the third. We weren't in a rush, so this wasn't too big a deal, but it did leave us wondering what would happen if the restaurant was busy. That being said, the servers are very friendly. The quality of the food and beverages was solidly good. I skipped the bubble teas (the texture of the bubbles doesn't appeal) and went with a smoothie despite the cold (it sounded too good to pass up): mango-ginger-pineapple. It was decent: the ginger overpowered the mango and pineapple a bit and the texture could be improved upon (it was a bit fibrous--maybe from the ginger?), but the overall flavor was good. I enjoyed my bf's coffee smoothie much more which resembled a frappuccino, but had a more pleasant coffee taste and was less sugary-sweet. For lunch, I went with pulled pork arepas, which I'd definitely order again. The meat tasted excellent and went nicely with the corn on which it was placed (these would also work well as a dish for the table). The sauce had a bit of a kick to it (a big plus), however, was a bit sweet to my taste. Two of my companions ordered noodle bowls (curry chicken), which they seemed to enjoy. Again, these were a bit spicy (the heat in the broth was too much for one of my companions, who is particularly heat-sensitive, so be warned). The final entree, a special called "the bad-ass rice," was also enjoyed. Overall, the food was solidly good, but the space is a drawback (it is what it is, I guess). Went to Twisted Soul for the second time today and confirmed that I wasn't dreaming, it was exactly as awesome as I thought it was the first time I went. The empanada fillings are delicious, even if the dough could use a bit more flake, the mexican corn will make you start speaking spanish if you don't already and the BBQ Pork Arepa is out of this world. We didn't have it this time, but the last time we went we thoroughly enjoyed the BBQ Pulled Pork Twisted Mac and Cheese - it sounds crazy but it is crazy good - and the rice puddings are a great way to finish if you have room. What we really like is that most of the items on the menu are sharable so ordering a number of things and then sharing among friends and family makes the experience all the more enjoyable. I have very much missed Twisted Soul and finally got to order take out from here yesterday since I was in the area. It seems they have greatly expanded their menu and I had a difficult time deciding what to order. I ordered the mac&cheese, bbq pork steamed buns and 2 beef empanadas. I haven't had the empanadas yet, but they've always been delicious. The steamed buns were really good, however the mac and cheese was just ok. I wish I had decided on something different instead, but at least I know for next time. I like that for the bubble teas you have the option of soy milk as well. I am finally getting around to writing this review. It is three weeks since Twisted Soul catered our son's wedding rehearsal dinner at the Vassar Alumnae House. What can I say? It was perfect. Coordinator Brenda Black was a dream to work with. She handled everything seamlessly. Our (45) guests are still talking about how wonderful it was. Twisted Soul makes my heart sing. The food is inventive, flavorful, and always inspired. I held off on writing a review for awhile. Honestly, I go there all the time. But I always get the SAME THING. And I didn't want to write a review based on one menu item. I mean, a place has to be more than a one hit wonder to get 4 or 5 stars from me. But to hell with it. The pulled pork arepa is the thing that dreams are made of. I love it, I love it, I love it. And the smoothies? Man they rock! I consider myself sort of a smoothie connoisseur. But am frequently disappointed by the consistency of many (local) places. Either they are too watery (blah!) or too thick (while the lesser of two evils, still unwanted). But the smoothies at Twisted Soul...man, they are spot on. Can ice be fluffy? Seriously, its a frozen dream. And with constantly changing seasonal flavors (my last one was mango/pineapple/ginger), as well as trusted standbys like coffee, taro & passion fruit...you cant go wrong. I'll be sucking down those smoothies in January when its -30 degrees outside, thankyouverymuch. As a side note, I've now finally broken ground and ventured into other areas of the menu (Dumplings! If you're looking for cheap tasty eats, Twisted Soul is the best place to go in Poughkeepsie. It's a perfect spot for a date, but keep in mind they don't take reservations! I'm a culinary student at the CIA down the road, and I have to say I'm always impressed that they manage to create such flavorful options and keep the prices so reasonable. The staff is always very friendly and accommodating to our needs. We had a "dinner party" there for ten people, and the bill was only $90! Total! We did bring our own wine, so that definitely helped our budget. (TS is strictly BYOB.) Everyone was well fed and happy and totally impressed by the Ethiopian chicken wings. Personally, I am completely obsessed with their Chick Pea Fries and the Pulled Pork Arepas. The Leche cookies are pure magic. But Twisted Soul was a much more relaxed and casual atmosphere where you order at the counter and seat yourself while listening to the alternative playlist. But who cares about this stuff, the FOOD. We started out with the shrimp dumplings, which came in a group of six around a small ball of rice. They were very good. Then we ordered the bad ass rice with chicken adobo, which was tasty but very salty. Finally we had the fried chicken noodle bowl, which was our favorite from the meal. I highly recommend it. Flavors were on point, but I like a bit of heat to my food so I poured on the hot sauce they provide you. We also had the pineapple + mango + ginger smoothie, which was very refreshing. Easily the top 5 most culinarily talented team in the Hudson valley. Let's first talk about how the world needs more Brenda's and Lee's. Such wonderful hardworking people that can cook basically any cuisine they decide to set their sights on. Oh yeah and Brenda also just happens to be a world class baker. We eat here regularly, but we also use them for any special events we are hosting. We sit down and craft menus specific to the occasion and they always exceed my expectations and go above and beyond in terms of effort and quality. You can tell they truly care about the product they are delivering. That being said the shining stars (while there are many) of this place are the following. Perfectly executed empanadas, surprisingly authentic dumplings, steamed buns and bibimbap, they make a dirty rice which is wonderfully complex and frankly delicious, and they make unique flavor profile milkshakes which are just special. Toasted marshmallow is my favorite. At the risk of being wordy I have to mention Brenda's baking. She makes some of the best baked goods I've ever had and I own and operate a commercial bakery myself. I cannot stress to you how good the pavlova is. Other phenomenal options are the Apple frangipane, ALL the cupcakes, her chocolate mousse cake, the dulce de leche stuffed cookies. I'm sure there's more hidden gems I haven't found yet. I'll wrap up with saying that Brenda is the type of person that would include desserts that we didn't order for my wife while she was pregnant. I got the noodle bowl with sweet potato noodles without protein, which didn't take long for them to make and bring to my table. However, the curry tasted watered down, the noodles didn't absorb much of the flavor, and it was underwhelming. With all the rave for the curry sauce, I was hoping for something more, but it tasted rather flat. I've been a customer at Twisted Soul for a couple of years now. Everything I've ever tried was delicious enough that I'll get cravings for it and drive all the way from Fishkill to Pok just for lunch or dinner. And anyone I've ever taken there, loves it just as much. When I eat in, I've always enjoyed the art that's displayed and the music. It's a chill space. That being said, I couldn't quite give it 5 stars. Everything I've ordered there (with the exception of my favorite: Malaysian coconut curry rice bowl) has been a rather small portion for the price. It's clear that the dishes are culinary works of art, but if you're really hungry, you might want to get a side and it gets expensive quick. Another reason for only 4 stars - service is kind of slow, and I'm a pretty patient person. If you have time and are eating in, the wait isn't as noticeable, but if you're getting it to take out, you gotta call ahead, especially if you walk in and they're busy. And if you're on a lunch break? It's almost not worth it. My only other complaint is that the owners have a life and need to close on occasion :( Which is of course understandable, but too often I've decided to eat there and it's been closed..so sad.. Bottom line, the food is so good that it's worth the price and the wait for me. It's still my favorite place to order out of. read more

I live in Middletown,NY...came to this spot while visiting in Kingston, NY due to the high star ratings. Not worth the money. I ordered the jerk tofu rice bowl which came out to almost $11. More rice than anything else, 3 small squares of tofu, and LITERALLY 3 of the tiniest pieces of plantains were in the bowl. I sat there with a disgusted look on my face and I think it was the owner? that came up to me and offered to fix my meal. What I received was MORE RICE, 1 extra square of tofu, and the slices of plantains which were only like 2cm thicker, oh let me not forget the extra side of jerk sauce that was flavorless. I left leaving more than half of the rice in the bowl and unsatisfied. I will never come back. Waste of money. read more

I've been here a few times. It's always busy but always worth the wait. I love the large selection of vegan, and vegetarian foods. The lavender lemonade with basil seeds is to die for and unlike anything I've ever had. They have passion fruit mojitos their bar is small but the drinks are delicious. Bubble tea is great.
