I am a frequent visitor of the Kingston location and thus had to try New Paltz. Ordered the Malaysian wontons, green curry fusion soup and pad Thai. Pad Thai continues to surpass any other I've had anywhere else. Flavor explosion. The green curry fusion soup with rice noodles was also delicious, full of spicy curry flavor and delivered on taste while being less of a flavor bomb than the pad Thai. Wontons in the curry were a tad underwhelming due to lacking some seasoning in the dumpling itself, while first whiff of the sauce turned me into a salivating puppy. Overall I think this places competition is its Kingston location. The seating here is readily available, the size of the location and the decor are very welcoming. Are we still in the hight of Covid? Bizarre.... The place is locked down with high glass boundaries and tables blocking the dining area. They didn't let us use the bathroom. I got my food to go. Everything from the steamed buns to the calamari seemed to be store bought. The calamari is definitely way over priced for the generic Sam's Club appetizer they serve you. I came for lunch and was very pleased with the friendly service who recommended my meal. I ordered the curry bowl which has a well spiced broth and I chose the Cantonese noodles plus teriyaki chicken. It arrived to my table fairly quickly despite the lunch rush. Great umami taste; only complaint was lots of peppers and onions for my liking so I would suggest asking for fewer veggies but the amount of noodles, broth, and chicken was perfect. I didn't really get anything Mexican so I can't comment on the fact that this place is a Asian/Thai-Mexican fusion restaurant but I can confidently say the Asian side is well done. Mostly plastic utensils and bowls so completely casual, almost fast-food like experience. Affordably priced for the taste and amount of food you actually get. It was pretty well portioned and I ended up packing some of it. The food comes in microwave safe relatively fancy to-go containers so it was convenient to pack up my leftovers by just asking for a lid. All in all a great experience and delicious food. read more

Crazy Bowls used to be located on the SUNY New Paltz campus and has moved into town on Main Street! It was my favorite food place on campus so when I heard it moved, I had to have it. The restaurant is honestly gorgeous. Everything is brand new (kitchen, counters, seats). It's Asian-Mexican Fusion style. There are so many menu options (Vegan too). For example, they have burritos, noodle and rice bowls, curry, tacos and more. The biggest change is that it is no longer Subway or Chipotle style where you can choose what you want as they make it. They also have bubble tea! I ordered the Mexican Bowl with grilled chicken. I thought they would have better quality meat, but it was the same as it was on campus, I had to pick out a lot of chewy pieces so that was disappointing. OK. I debated if this should be 4 or 5 stars.....why???....because I was being snooty. I marked this place on our itinerary during a trip upstate and I'm really glad we were able to try it out. We got the Korean beef (bulgogi) kimchi nachos, chicken quesadilla, and chicken curry stir noodle with lo mein and yellow curry. Everything was excellent and prepared fresh. I have to give some props to the Korean beef and kimchi. I'm not sure what cut of meat that use for the beef, but it was very tender and not grisly; usually bulgogi is made with thinly sliced ribeye and it can have parts of the tendon that make the texture unpleasant. Theirs was very tasty and not a bit of unpleasant texture. In retrospect, I wish I got my kiddo the quesadilla with the bulgogi to try something different. The kimchi was well fermented and sauteed and complimented the beef and all of the nachos very well. If you're traveling on I-87, this is a great option for tasty eats and there's something for everyone. If I lived nearby, I might be ordering pretty regularly. Also, I mentioned that everything is made fresh. A lot of people seem to call in their order or order online. I would recommend this since it's mainly a takeout place right now and you don't have to wait. read more

My husband and I usually love Asian fusion food, but we were disappointed in the food we got! Although the meat tasted super delicious, there were only 3 large pieces of meat. Furthermore, we also got their Thai tea boba - and to this day, I cannot believe this boba tea was so sweet, we tossed the cup after drinking half of it! We tried our hardest to drink as much of it as we could, but as we got to the halfway point, it was hard to justify drinking pure sugar. Consistently great experience every time I visit. The staff are super friendly. I recommend the lotus bunz, the pork belly buns are the closest thing I've found to authentic Taiwanese Gua Bao outside of Manhattan. However, my personal favorite is the Korean bulgogi beef. To call the seasoning on the ground beef orgasmic would be an understatement! Among the top 5 ground beef dishes I've had. I suggest adding kimchi to the order- there's a delicate balance between the spicy kimchi and the sweetness of the beef. I had just the right amount of both. The kimchi adds great texture too, for a fulfilling bite. Tonight, I also tried the vegetable spring rolls. Cooked perfectly and skillfully wrapped- not greasy at all. I only wish they offered shrimp spring rolls! This place clearly knows Asian flavors. Next time I'm looking forward to trying some of their Mexican menu items. Had a very unpleasant experience today ordering takeout at Crazy Bowlz. I ordered a curry noodle bowl, some pork buns, and a duck quesadilla. I asked if they had any spicy aioli or something on the side and the cashier said that they do not but they do have sour cream. I then overhead the staff in back laughing that I had asked for 'aioli'. When I saw they do have spicy mayo on their mayo, they didn't offer to pack some with me. The quesadilla was packed poorly in a parchment wonton noodle baggie, with a unhealthy amount of oil sitting at the bottom. Messy. Tasted fine. The braised pork belly buns were drier than any braised meat I've tried. The cut could be called thick if it was bacon. The lack of any sauce on the bun and more dry peanuts didn't help the fact. The noodle bowl was fine. Pretty much what you'd expect from a sub-foodtruck level Asian fusion stand. All of this was packed into a bag without any napkins or utensils. I gave it 2 stars because the food was not awful, but definitely not a great experience and certainly not worth the $32 and change for everything. Won't be returning. read more

Here is a solid poke bowl type place, slinging bowls of noodles or rice topped with veggies, sauce, and a protein or two. They offer 21 or so types of bowls, and also some quesadillas and tacos. That is a cross-pollination I am starting to see a lot of - Mexican food and Asian food on the same menu. Well, I think poke bowls are Asian because they use mostly ingredients from Asian cuisines, but they probably are born and bred in the USA. The NP Crazy Bowlz is a nice set up. I had the Mexican bowl which was very tasty and recommend it as a nice flavored option. The bathroom could use a cleaning and the floor mats in between the counter and the trash counter could cause someone to trip. They were piled up rather than flat on the floor. This is definitely one of my favorite places in town to eat. The staff has been so sweet and friendly it's a very calm and welcoming environment. The food is truly amazing. The rice bowls have so much flavor in them, I've tried it with chicken, shrimp, and steak all were great. I've tried their calamari and it was perfectly fine. I saw no problem with them. The sauces they use have so many flavors in it it really makes a dish. I've even tried their tacos and they were very flavorful. Every-time I go there I get a bubble tea and each time it's great. The staff in the past has even helped me pick out which flavor to try. My current favorite is the Taro bubble tea. All of the teas I've tried have tasted so good. I'm reviewing New Paltz only not Kingston. Visitors should know this is THE go-to for Thai/Asian especially. 1. Since it's in the Walgreens parking lot you don't have to worry about finding a space. 2. The food and ambiance is excellent. We have tried the two wanna be thai restaurants on Main St several times and besides bad attitudes and bad food, the parking is impossible. Do yourselves a favor and go here. Their food is amazing! Always super hot and super fresh since they make it to order. My daughter loves the chicken potstickers. The rest of us are vegetarian and vegan. My vegan daughter brought us here while we were visiting and every time we visit, this is our go to place! As a vegetarian it's been hard to find good takeout food but Crazy Bowlz makes amazing tofu dishes! Their Spring rolls and Pad Thai are delicious and their Teriyaki Tofu lotus buns are my favorite! Not to mention their bubble tea with popping bobba is a must have every time too! Their staff is super nice and super helpful and very knowledgeable about food allergies.
