We were celebrating my hubby's b-day and decided to spend the afternoon in Northampton MA. We surreptitiously came across the taste of Northampton, which was enjoyable for the afternoon. Once we decided on steak for dinner, we chose Caminito Steakhouse. We asked to be seated outside and were immediately seated. We both chose dry aged porterhouse steak and both agreed they were delicious. Additionally, we both had different side choices and thought they were flavorful as well. We left with leftover meals for each of us. Furthermore, our waiter was attentive and professional. One criticism would be the outside seating. Although it provided a pleasant view, the tables and chairs were less than would be anticipated for an expensive steak meal, and occasional insects interfered with our meals. read more

OH MY!!! Great steakhouse!! I ordered the Ribeye, medium rare...what a delicious melt in your mouth STEAK!. The mashed potatoes were very tasty and made a great side dish. Meat was very tender and flavorful. And the CARROT CAKE!!!! OMG...THE CARROT CAKE!!!.....very, very tasty!!!!!...Topping that was the great service from the owner himself. Very attentive. The drink selection (wines and spirits) were top notch...try the Cucumber Cosmo...and the after dinner vermouth was GREAT as an after meal drink!!! I also have to mention the awesome ambiance... Came here with a group for a work related dinner. There is street parking available (make sure to pay the meter, they're very strict around here, we saw many people getting ticketed even at 5:30 PM!). The dining room itself is very dark (purposefully for ambience) but the menu is a bit difficult to read. We tried several of their steaks and sides and the meats were cooked beautifully. Sides were OK and portions were good. Drinks were also tasty and service was wonderful. Price point is average for a steakhouse. Overall a very solid meal but nothing that wowed me. read more

I have been to the steakhouse many times and the food is superior no doubt. Unfortunately, this last time I went I had a very negative experience. My partner who has been sober for 30 years and not drop of alcohol ordered a mocktail. He had several sips realized that it had alcohol in it. The bartender had mixed up the bottles. The bartender was very apologetic and clearly felt badly. She brought two more mocktails on the house and a slice of cheesecake. None of which we wanted. When it came time to pay the bill, I asked for a box for the leftovers of my $55 meal. The bartender took my plate and said she would take care of it. Several minutes later a waiter came by with my demiglace sauce in a tiny plastic container, but not my food. When I asked about my leftovers, they were not to be found, so I'm guessing that they were thrown away. This boils down to the fact that there was zero compensation. We paid full price for our meals, and my partner, sober for 30 years, was given alcohol in his mocktail that day. We will never go back. read more

Um I have not stepped foot in this joint in at least 2 or 3 years. Pretensious for no apparent reason, steaks are gristly and loaded with fat. When a guest has a legitimate complaint about their steak you need to offer an alternative. You don't tell them "We don't give refunds on steak." read more

Caminito Steakhouse had great service, but the food was not extraordinary. We started with the Fried Sprouts - they were coated in a breading/batter and then deep fried. These were "okay", but the breading was a bit soggy. I ordered the Sirloin with Gorgonzola Butter and Kale. The Sirloin was large, but very veiny. The kale was sautéed with Pork Belly and my favorite part of the meal. My boyfriend ordered the Filet and it was quite undercooked. We came to Caminito with a party of six for one of my besties' birthdays. We were seated at the big round table in the corner and treated like kings all night long. Our waitress, whose name I sadly don't remember, was personable and friendly and super knowledgeable about the menu. She recommended drinks for us based on our preferences, and even got the bartender to come over and talk about some of his house-made infusions with one of our group who's a mixologist. And the food-- oy, the food. I'll be dreaming about that steak pretty much perpetually until I can make it back there to have it again. Caminito is pricey, definitely a three dollar sign dinner spot, but so, so worth it. On an absolute whim, the bae and I were headed for sushi upstairs when we saw the adorable outdoor atmosphere this place had to offer. My adhd kicked in, my eyes wandering towards the shiny lights like a magpie, and bam we ended up having date night here. The staff was exceptionally friendly and knowledgeable. The small outdoor seating area was intimate and a perfect setting for a date night. I had the steak tip kabobs with rice, I wish I could tell you how they were but I inhaled them instantly. They have blue cheese olives, so I *had* to get a dry vodka martini but did have major FOMO while perusing the extensive bespoke cocktail list (spicy black lava salt margarita, you're the one that got away). The filet was perfectly seasoned and melted in my mouth; it was served over addictively crispy little potatoes and a tangy mustard sauce. Brought my wife here for our anniversary dinner. We'd been here once before years ago and loved it. Man has it gone downhill since. Our steaks were average at best. Seasoned ok. Cooked almost to what we asked. But very fatty and chewy. And given the price, an average steak is a massive disappointment. Sides were no better than the potatoes or carrots you might find at an all you can eat buffet. The service was slow with large periods of time between anyone checking to see if we needed anything. Our server also didn't explain the menu to us. I learned later by listening to another table's server that we could have swapped out the sides that came with our orders. Wish I'd know that earlier. Atmosphere wise, the place is loud as hell. We were two people, no more than 3 feet from one another and practically had to yell to hear each other. It all made for a very disappointing start to the evening. We'd have been better off a Texas Roadhouse or any other chain "steakhouse". read more

I haven't been to Caminito in years, and I understood that there had been changes including not being an Argentinian steakhouse but we were so disappointed. As many diners said, the steaks were not cooked to order, which is a huge fail at that price point. The service and ambiance were absolutely chaotic. We overheard the owner telling another guest he used to be a bar manager in Manhattan. Managing a bar does not mean you have what it takes to own a restaurant, he should have stayed in New York. The on line menu and information indicate this is an Argentinian restaurant. it was but no longer is so dishes like empanadas and crepes with dulcet de leche are not available. it is a steakhouse but my rib eye was the worst steak I have ever had. The mashed potatoes had very little flavor (might they have even been from dehydrated potatoes?), and the carrots were similarly disappointing. The caesar salad was equally bland. Usually I never bother with leaving a review l, in fact this is my very first time leaving a review for a restaurant I recently dined at. it was my first and last time at Caminito. the quality of the food was not up to scratch I started with what can only be described as a shameful attempt at a charcuterie board with cheap cheese served along with a cut up dinner roll followed by a 4oz freezer burnt filet despite ordering an 8oz filet. I read reviews and just about everyone had great things to say about this Restaurant. I don't know if it was a weird night for them or that everyone single patron that's ever eaten here just has never had a good meal before. to the business owners invent in a new chef who cares about the quality of the food that is sent to the customer. A group of us went here for brunch last weekend and we were pleasantly surprised by our experience. The owner was super friendly and gave us some free beignets which were delicious. The booze was delicious as the bloody-mary was spicy and had plenty of vodka. Those of us who had the breakfast tacos were in love. I found the steak Benedict to be both filling and delicious. Very nice restaurant serving rather authentic Argentine cuisine. Décor is pretty understated, dim lighting, uncovered tables and a nice alfresco area that sadly was not open due to the weather. The wine/beer list was surprisingly extensive and I went with one of my favorite local beers, the Berkshire Steel Rails Ale. Some small, toasted rolls came out with a nice chimichurri. We ended up splitting the prosciutto and asparagus appetizer which was topped with grated parmesan, tomatoes and toasted bread crumbs. It was served over what seemed to be the same chimichurri as the appetizer which added additional flavor. Instead of an entrée I went with the chorizo appetizer and the grilled shrimp appetizer. Both were quite large. The chorizo was four decent-sized sausages served over some greens and chimichurri. The chorizo had a nice flavor but could have been spicier for me. The shrimp was to skewers with four shrimp each and was grilled perfectly and had a zesty garlic flavor. My friend ordered the chicken skewers which was huge. She reported that is was very good before we had the uneaten skewer and most of the rice packed up to go. Prices and service were both very good. read more

The bread was very good. We asked for a second basket! Other than the bread, it was a dismal experience. First, we expected an Argentinian restaurant, Where were the empanadas? Where was the Argentinian grill? My meal was cold, and I had the distinct feeling that I was eating left overs from earlier in the week. I could not finish my meal. One of my favorite restaurants in the area. I have to say I'm surprised at the other low ratings. I've never had a problem with the service. I've had the milanesa several times - delicious fried beef with their signature noisiette potatoes - tiny, round, perfectly spiced potato goodies. The last time I went I got the parradilla, a sampler of skirt steak, sweetbreads, chorizo and ribs. Per the waitresses recommendation we ordered it medium (I normally like medium rare) and it was great. Get a side of those potatoes with that dish. I also love the gnocchi - it comes with a double sauce - a creamy one and a tomato one. They often have live music, too - the last time I went there was a single guitar player - just enough to provide great atmosphere without making it hard to have a conversation. Returned during Summer of 2021 (August) and had an equally great meal even with Covid restrictions in place. Great ambiance, stellar wine list, outside seating, appetizers are creative and tasty, save room for dessert but that will be hard with the amazing entrees. Came here with a group of seven and we had an amazing experience. The staff is awesome, the food is incredible and the atmosphere was perfect for an intimate night with friends. They had live music and good wine, what more do you want? The salads were delicious (we tried almost all of them) and the entrées were fantastic. Everyone was saying how this was one of the best meals they've had in Northampton. I had the filet and veggie skewers and they were cooked perfectly. We have nothing but good things to say about Caminito, and were a bit surprised at the low ratings posted by other users. We have been going there for dinner/special occasions for the past 3 years or so and have never had a bad experience. First, we have found it is always best to make a reservation, especially on the weekends. During the week we have stopped in on a whim and have gotten a table very easily, but the restaurant holds maybe 50 people at the most all at once--it really makes for a great cozy atmosphere which is part of what we love. That being said, we saw diners that did not have reservations made get turned away due to the fact that the restaurant was booked during peak dinner hours. When it comes to service, I can only remember being impatient once in the years we have been going there (and it was waiting for the bill). Our most recent visit found a very friendly host who seated us right away, and a waitress we have had a few times who was also very friendly and on top of her service. She didn't come over every 5 minutes (which we hate), but she checked in often enough that if we needed something or had a question it was addressed quickly and efficiently. There is also a classical guitarist after 7pm on weekend who helps create a great mood without playing too loudly to disrupt conversation. And now, the food.... Amazing is just not enough of a word to describe the food from Caminito. Between the wood-fire grill, fresh ingredients, and simple yet seemingly complex flavor combinations, you never want to stop eating even after you've reached your limit of food intake. To start you get warm, soft, pull apart bread with a fresh and spicy chimmichuri sauce. This also pairs well with the Provoleta, a ramekin of grilled provolone cheese drizzled with olive oil and finely diced tomatoes. But the real star of the appetizers is the lobster ravioli...we have had lobster ravioli at other places but this is seriously THE best we have ever had. The rosemary browned butter gives it a slightly smokey flavor which can only be described as heavenly (I would have posted pictures, but our party dove into them before they even hit the table!). Other appetizers we have tried that you won't be disappointed with are the esparrago con prosciutto, chorizo, and empanadas de carne. We have yet to try the others as often the lobster ravioli takes over our decision-making. Salads are fresh with tasty ingredients. We've tried them all, most recently the "wedge" along with the spinach, pear, and beet salad. The homemade dressings are great (especially the buttery-tasting walnut vinaigrette!), and we often get the salads to share. The caesar salad is large enough to share between 2-3 people as an appetizer or your entire meal! For entrees, anything from the grill is worth it. Our most recent visit included the bife con gorgonzola and the lomo a la mostaza. Both pieces of meat were cooked exactly how they were ordered, and the flavors from the gorgonzola butter and mustard creme were simply sublime. If you are looking for something other than beef, the salmon a la naranga is a lighter choice with bright flavors and a crisp skin with simple salt and pepper seasoning. Other great entrees we've tried include the beef "el gaucho", costilla de puerco, pechuguitas al champignon, milanesa caminito, crepes de espinacha, and noqui. I'm sure that anything else is fantastic, we just haven't tried them yet. As for dessert, highly recommended are the panqueques and mousse--both are great ways to end the meal with a little bit of sweet. This was my second time to Caminitos. The first time I there was earlier this summer. I ordered the Sirloin and Gorgonzola, which one would assume is a specialty given that this is a steakhouse. I had ordered it medium rare, but had to send it back because it was basically raw meat. It also wasn't a very good cut of meat. They handled my complaint professionally and were very concerned about my experience, which I appreciated. I chalked the experience up to chance. The second time I went was this evening. Silly me, I ordered the same thing because I love both steak and blue cheese. Basically, the same thing happened. It wasn't raw, but most of the cut was very rare. And, again, it wasn't a good cut of meat - lots of fat and gristle. I left much of it on the plate. The waitress didn't even ask why so much was left on the plate when she cleared the dishes. I will never go there again. I can't believe they call themselves a steakhouse. read more

Unfortunately, this was not a good experience. The problem is that the dishes were lukewarm at best when they got to the table, every single one. The steak had a good flavor but why serve something like this at room temperature? I really like Argentinian steakhouses but this just didn't come close to being satisfying. For a "steakhouse" they need to first learn to grill to temperature! Ordered a filet mignon medium.. I received a steak with a bloody red center. At the $45 price tag I asked for a new steak. We ate at Caminito Steakhouse on a whim one Saturday night (March 2018). No reservations but it was later in the evening, closer to 9pm. We were seated immediately and I loved the atmosphere, music, and lighting. The host who seated us was friendly and sent our waitress right over. There was a gentleman playing guitar but it was soft and pretty music and did not interfere with anyone's ability to hold a conversation. The place is small so I would definitely recommend getting a reservation if you plan to dine during peak dinner hours. I noticed they have a patio out front but we went in March and it was still too cold for the patio to be open. Our waitress was good and took our drink and food orders right away. She seemed a little anxious to wait on us but that was probably because we were there late and she wanted to go home. She wasn't rude at all ... But I got the "vibe" that her shift was ending and she was looking forward to being done for the day. This is really the only reason I didn't give the place 5 stars. But she was a good waitress. No complaints ... The food was SO GOOD!! Pricey, yes. But in my opinion ... Worth every penny. I am a big fan of a good steak and ours were delicious. We started with the Cast Iron Carrots and they were very good. Sliced a little thin but that really allowed for them to soak up the flavor. Both of our steaks were cooked perfectly and I had to use all my will power not to devour my entire 12oz sirloin and be a lady ... I had the sirloin gorgonzola (12 oz) and my friend had the rib eye (18oz). The prices were $32/$36 for the steaks and the carrot appetizer was $8 but all in all we had a fabulous meal and I would definitely save my money to go back and eat there again. To be very direct, Caminito was a real big disappointment. The restaurant is in a prime spot in the heart of Northampton. Decor is nice inside and the two-tiered patio space looked really nice. Good music playing and was anticipating a nice meal in a nice setting. But, flies buzzing around the table - ok, it's the end of summer at an outside patio. This gets a pass. Waitress comes over and announces they are out of the short rib, the salmon and the gnocchi. Whaaaattt? How are you out of three main dishes? Ordered the sirloin Gorgonzola and the chicken. Both were disappointing. The steak was somewhat flavorless overall and not the best sirloin cut I've seen. The Gorgonzola was on top of the steak but a very mediocre steak. The sides included some kale with pork belly. The pork was chunked and seemed like it was lying around for a while - dry and hard. The mashed potatoes were actually very good but then this is a steakhouse. The chicken was average and same could be said that for an argentine steakhouse, there was not much flavor or taste of Argentinian cooking. Service overall was good so my primary issue was the food. I've lived here in 'Hamp, and sadly have never eaten here. My neighbor has, and now that the restaurant is serving brunch, we went. My friend is handicapped, and both the kitchen staff and wait staff were gracious and friendly. The service was prompt. But the food was beyond what I expected. We started with a beignet. They were small, which was a blessing as they were rich and delicious. I'm not a meat eater, but I was all over the Steak and Eggs I ordered. This meal was sublime. My friend got the NY sirloin, while I had the skirt steak. Mine was a littel rarer than I prefer but seasoned perfectly and cooked over a wood fire. Served with poached eggs and home fries, the portions were very generous. The dessert was the biggest surprise. I ordered chocolate mousse. It didn't look chocolatey to me at all. That is until I tasted it. This is the best chocolate dessert I have ever eaten! It's a small venue with the parking garage across the street. It is difficult for handicapped to access, due to the building it is in (very old and perched on top of a really, really steep hill) This small bistro has got to be the best kept secret here in the valley. read more
