This place is outstanding! It's small, but jam packed with a tremendous variety of books. I go to bookstores to encounter authors and titles I haven't heard of, but I get tired of having to spend an hour wading through the piles of poorly written books that are continually being pumped into the market. At Two Birds, all the work has been done for you. The dross doesn't make it onto their shelves. I spent about 12 minutes, and came away with 6 books worth reading. This is my favorite bookstore, and I don't even live in the area, but it is a must visit every time I'm visiting. Gary has the best book recommendations! He has little notes around the bookstore to guide you in the right direction if you are unsure of what to read. The selection is so vast, but if need be, Gary is able to order you a book or at least let you know when the book will be back in stock. The kids section is also so cute. There is a little sectioned off area for the kids that has books at the eye level of children and there are so many options from fun kids books to fun, educational books. And so many pens, stickers, and doodles kids (and kids at heart) also love. There are both new and used books in this bookstore, which is amazing because there are so many recent books that you can get at a deal and the quality is still fantastic! This place is truly a gem and I love to visit, and I already look forward to visiting again. read more

The owners of 2 Birds are really nice folks. They are doing an amazing job stocking the bookstore. I called ahead for a copy of Lord of the Flies (Freshman English req'd reading), and they had it ready for me when I walked through the door within 15 minutes. However, browsing the shelves is what I enjoy most. The shop is cozy and well curated. I look forward to going back for my summer reading haul. read more

Fantastic new/used bookstore in Capitola, just opened in January 2021. Nice selection of current and recent titles across many genres, fiction and non. Their used books are in such good shape that you have to depend on the little sticker on the spine (removable of course!) to identify them. Very happy we discovered this place! read more

This new bookstore is a welcome addition to the Santa Cruz area. It is wonderful to have another INDEPENDENT book store here. The location is very accessible and there is an excellent choice of different subjects as well as a choice of used books. The couple who own the store are so personable and helpful and you feel so comfortable when you walk through the door. PLUS they encourage you to donate books as well. Well organized, with a truly magical atmosphere, it's like a new adventure every time I walk through its doors. Fantastic local book store! They have such an eclectic selection of books and a little gift section, as well. Two birds also has an incredible children's section with learning toys in addition to books. The staff has also been extremely cognizant of COVID guidelines. They only allow so many people in the store at a time, always adhere to mask protocol, but still make the bookstore feel cozy even during these trying times. Went into the shop for the first time today, a beautiful shop. The owner wasn't in but his wife was, she was super helpful and informative. I was able to find some books I had been searching for months to find. I felt like the prices were very reasonable as well. Everything from new prints to a gorgeous leather bound book.
