Summary: super fond of sustainable products. Hughes soap and bamboo options. Cute gift ideas too. Soap, bags, personal care items, straws, lunchboxes

Absolutely love this store and all that it stands for! It's not common to find small local shops like Ethos that focus solely on products that are eco friendly. They have a section for home goods, skincare, makeup, etc. I actually came back to this shop just to take home these reusable cotton pads! They had a pack with all black, all white, and rainbow. I personally loved the rainbow pack and this is such a great way to reduce my use of single use cotton pads for applying toner and removing makeup. The products are great, the shop is beautiful, and the staff is friendly. Thanks for being here in the bay, Ethos!

As this tiny company themself explains, Ethos is all about "sustainable living, low-waste organization that includes a retail shop, art and workshop space, and consulting services." One visit to their quaint little shop in downtown Capitola will help you understand this noble vision. Everything product they carry is aligned with their mission. We stopped in while strolling around downtown. Initially, we wanted to compare this shop to one in Sacramento with much the same goal. Every aspect of Ethos was thoughtful, with items on the shelves like reusable straws and water bottles, candles and many refillable items people could bring back time and again. There's a BYOB (Bring your own bottle) refill station, too. They have a big focus on art as well and I love the exterior and interior design of this place. Definitely worth a visit on your next Capitola outing!

They have some really great sustainable products. They are also now accepting tips on all purchases, which has officially turned me into a thousand year old Karen. I think I'll just make my own dish powder from now on

This a store focusing on sustainable zero waste products. Hence the name. While there is street parking, this store is not even a block away from the beach, which means you are not going to find street parking available unless it's like four in the morning. There is a surface lot more or less directly across the street but well, the beach traffic fills that one up as well. Like a lot of things in this part of capiltola, you are best served by finding a way here that does not involve driving. While this store is small, it's impeccably curated. That is to say well laid out. They carry a range of goods from health and beauty stuff to home décor, Frisbees, games, and clothing. So pretty much something for everyone. There are some good things here, particularly in the bath/body section. Generally speaking the items are higher cost (but higher quality) then you'd find elsewhere. For example the bamboo toothbrushes work very well, won't kill the all life on the planet, but do run from five to ten bucks. Tasteful, decorative and long lasting for sure, but whether or not that's the price you want to pay to try to do something to save the planet is up to you. All in all it's worth a browse and makes a good fit with the neighborhood. Bonus points awarded for being ocean friendly at the beach.

If you are at all interested in sustainability of reducing your waste, Ethos is a must-do spot during your visit! They have so many things that I've seen or read about online, all collected in one place! Prices are the same as I've seen online too, so you're not paying a premium. Leaf razors, Pela phone cases, solid dish soap, replacement heads for dish scrubbers, solid shampoo and conditioner, plus bulk lotions, oils, and other products. They sell dropper and spray bottles for your homemade products. I'm pretty into this stuff, and some items were new to me, like plastic-free mascara -- whaaaat?? I'm just sad I can't shop here on the regular!

Aside from bar shampoo and conditioner, they have a good range of locally made bar soaps - that all smell amazing.

I came in fully prepared to browse and seriously consider purchasing a chair in the ~$3k range. Instead, the salesperson was extremely aggressive and would not give me space to look, sit, or think on my own. Every move I made was interrupted, redirected, or talked over. It felt less like assistance and more like being pressured. Furniture is a considered purchase. I need time to sit, step away, compare, and come back. The constant hovering and sales tactics completely ruined the experience and ultimately drove me out of the store. More than once. It's a shame, because the product is nice. But customers need room to browse without being managed every second.

I did not experience the level of horrible customer service that Yelpers complained about at this location. I bought a fun scarf - kind of like a cheap knock off of the striped Missoni-style scarves. They were only $7.50! Acrylic of course. Great spot to buy a unique souvenir or a gift for someone. Highly recommend!

There is a surface lot a block (off of Monterey) away that has all the same problems as the street parking. Generally speaking I like the odds that the lot behind the police station offers, but in peak tourist season you'd best plan ahead for parking. This is a medium ish sized store very typical in layout for the shops that line this block close to the beach. The entrance faces the street, and the stock is laid out through the store with the cashier at the back. It will seem narrow but isn't really. The stock falls into mid range giftables. It's not a super expensive spot where you can blow 500 dollars on a purse but is the kind of spot where you can pick up a decent clutch for 40 bucks or so. Most of the items fall into the home décor category with a mild beach theme. There are inspirational books, wine accessories, all sorts of beach gear, light clothing, candles, leather craft goods, cups, and yes magnets because of course there are. Overall it's a reliable source of better quality gifts then you'll find elsewhere on the esplanade, the kind of things that won't embarrass you when you get home.
