Heard great things about this spot so I wanted to check them out. I opted to pre-order my food and pick it up so save on fees. We got the fried catfish ($24) which came with macaroni and cheese and collard greens as well as the seafood combo. The seafood combo ($23.50) consisted of 2 whiting, 4 fried scallops 4 shrimp, collard greens and mac n cheese. As far as pick up, they do have a parking lot. When you enter and picking up, mention which site you used. That would be helpful. I don't think there was an seating inside as well. Now for the food. Never had fried scallops before but it was delicious. The portion size for both menus was huge. Had leftovers for days. The fish in both combos was the star and then the cornbread that was hidden under the sides. We were happy with our meal and would order again. read more

The food is very flavorful, good and not salty. You get lots of food, fish, mac, collars, and cornbread. However, the Mac was baked earlier and cornbread. The Mac needs not fully baked, it can be scooped out for each order, bit extra cheese, and placed under a salamander. Since it will be served til finish, this will keep freshness for each order. The cornbread made from scratch with white meal. The meal needs to soak before baking. A little butter and sour cream makes it lite, fluffy, and adds flavor. Overall, the food is good read more

I want to share my full experience with Two Fish and Five Loaves from beginning to end. I decided to use this restaurant for catering after receiving a recommendation. I spoke with Kevin before the holidays and later called to place my order. Because it was the holiday season, I understood they were busy and tried to be patient throughout the process. When placing my order, I was told to leave a deposit, and the amount was left up to me. I paid more than half of the total and was told the remaining balance would be paid in cash upon delivery. On the day of the event, I arrived late to the venue due to heavy rain and traffic. I take full accountability for that. Derek from the restaurant called and stated he had arrived and was waiting to setup the food at the venue. When I arrived, I spoke with Derek, and he repeated the same information which he did not say he was waiting for the rest of the payment only or he was waiting for long time for payment. As I went to give Derek the remaining payment, he stopped and said Kevin wanted to speak with me (which his name was saved as dad). When I got on the phone, Kevin immediately spoke to me in a rude and disrespectful manner about how long Derek had been waiting. I attempted to apologize, but Kevin cut me off and said, "I don't want no apologies either." He then demanded that I pay Derek extra money for the wait. Had Kevin handled the situation professionally, I absolutely would have corrected my mistake and compensated Derek for his time. Instead, I felt disrespected and mistreated. Kevin also stated that he would no longer do business with me, which is fine. Unfortunately, the food quality did not make up for the poor customer service. The chicken was undercooked and pale, and the string beans were unseasoned. The only positives were the fried fish and mac and cheese, which guests did enjoy. Kevin, customer service matters. Easily one of my new favorite soul food spots now! The seafood combo comes absolutely loaded with whiting, shrimp, scallop, sides, and one of the biggest pieces of corn bread I've ever seen. At first it seemed like a solo dish but it definitely needs a helping hand! It takes a little time to be prepared since it appears to be made to order which I was okay with. So I was looking for a soul food restaurant in the area for lunch... Not being familiar with the area or some of the better restaurants I googled and found this one that was open and close by. I arrived at the place and was able to place my order and everything seemed okay at first. I then get my order and feel something is off so I look in the bag and see that my order was completed messed up. Both of my dinner orders were wrong the catfish dinner had no sides in the bag and a piece of cornbread in the container that looked bitten off (mind you I just got the bag with the food) and what was supposed to be my smothered turkey leg dinner was a chicken dinner that I never ordered. I informed of the errors and proceeded to wait for the corrections. (With no courtesy for me waiting for the corrections as opposed to just canceling it all together at that point) I then get my food again and see more errors with sides missing and the wrong sides in the bag. I informed the lady but didn't have much time to wait for what could be another hour for part 2 of correcting simple errors.. I then get back hoping the food is better than the experience... The catfish was cold and hard so picture how enjoyable that is.... In addition to the fact that it came withrice and gravy that was supposed to be macaroni and cheese as ordered and was just blah...after that experience just getting the food and then bracing myself to eat some of it I just ended up throwing it away and praying for better days... Every time I walk into this place I feel like I'm picking up food from my family. The food is always hot and fresh ! Some of my favorites on the menu - Oxtail ( not cooked Jamaican style but they are amazing the flavor omg) - Fried whiting ( the best I've ever tasted not up for debate ) - Fried Shrimp ( juicy jumbo shrimp so much flavor ) - BBQ ribs ( falling off the bone and the sauce is homemade you can tell ! ) My favorite sides are Mac & cheese Yams Green beans Potato salad ( to die for order a large you won't regret it ) When you order your food make sure you pick it up shortly after or it won't be as fresh. I feel like that's why some people complain because they order and don't pick up their food until 45 mins after it's been ready. They also have catered all of my special events! When my father professed he wanted fried catfish, I could not bear to make dinner 5 nights in a row. We have been hearing the commercial on WBLS for years so we decided to try Two Fish and Five Loaves. The restaurant is located on Route 22. Depending on where you are coming from you may have to make a U-turn. My GPS told me I had arrived, yet the restaurant was on the opposing side of 22. We ordered two fried catfish dinners and a grilled salmon dinner. The catfish was fried hard (which is my preference) yet still somewhat tender. The pieces of fish are large. Dinners come with a choice of 2 sides. The macaroni & cheese and candied yams were good. My father like the collard greens. My mother enjoyed her food as well. Due to the portion size we all ended up splitting and saving our meals for later. Social distancing is enforced upon entry to pick up. You can see a portion of the kitchen as well (another plus). Ok.. where should I start? The fish and chicken are D-LISH-USSSSS! As are the shrimp, and they're a very nice size as well. The mac and cheese is good, as are the yams. The potato salad is good too but could use a tad bit of salt, but to each their own; I would definitely order it again. The oxtails are tender but slightly bland, but I do appreciate that they give you a nice amount of ox tails and they weren't super fatty. You could actually see and taste the oxtail meat, which was a plus since some Places can be stingy and give you super fatty pieces. The fries were soggy by the time I got home, so that's something I wouldn't suggest. Also the scallops, although juicy, didn't seem to maintain the batter/ fried coating. So although the scallops were still good, they didn't maintain their fried integrity like the fish and shrimp did. So for that I had to go with 4 instead of 5 stars. If you are looking for great soul food locally- this is the place to go! I was suppose to take my mother out to an upscale restaurant in the meat packing district in NYC however, my mother wanted to try out this restaurant instead and we were both happy that we did! We both ordered the fried fish, collard greens and macaroni and cheese. The dish came with corn bread that was delicious! As a side, I ordered the banana pudding which was equally as fulfilling. The restaurant itself is very small with only about 4 tables. Although there is a tv located inside, this is not necessarily the place to come to if you have a big dinner party. No "wow" moment, no "mmm" between bites, just okay. This place is in a good location however the experience here wasn't that great. I ordered fried chicken, fish and shrimp with collard greens and rice. Food is over priced and the quality was poor. The portion size was great but the food quality wasn't worth what I paid. The chicken was dry with no taste to it and the grease appeared to be dirty. The fish and shrimp was tasteless and is wasn't crispy or southern fried. Collard greens was supposed to have smoked turkey in it but the flavor didn't reflect. The rice was dry as well as the gravy. No taste at all plus they were serving one piece of salmon one piece of fry fish. The ticket cost $80 so they could have server two pieces of everything. The drink had no taste. I need a refund. They freshly prepare each customers order, and my order is always perfect, fresh hot, and exactly like I ordered. There fried chicken, barbecue ribs, mac n cheese, potato salad, and greens reminds me of my Grandmothers cooking whom is from the South. This place is the WORST! After literally over 17 years after first experiencing them catering my church's block party, they are still rude. I have attempted to order from them over the years and never did because of rude customer service. Today my family ordered online. My sister gets there and apparently they contacted her to say they were out of catfish. My mom did most of the ordering with this company,but every time she had a conversation with the worker she always said; they are sooooo pleasant and willing to help. I really wish I could give an extra star, but something was missing. Seafood Combo with Cornbread, Collard Greens, and Mac ($16.95): You smell that? That's a hole burning through my wallet after saying I would stick to something quick and cheap. I had around $25 on me since I decided I wouldn't go crazy on dinner; well, that and I was just too lazy to head to the NFCU. Welp. Overall, I enjoyed what I ate. The two whiting fish were perfectly fried and did not taste like lard or leave an after taste in my mouth at all. The four scallops albeit lacking in size and quantity were tender and juicy. As for the four fried shrimp, the batter was not too thick and, like everything else, was freshly fried. Their cornbread is some of the best I've had. It was moist, buttery, and soft. The sides were a good combination -- the collard greens weren't overly briney and the mac was not bland nor salty. Also, hot sauce is a must add. It tasted great with the fried seafood. The brand they use isn't too spicy -- for me at least -- so feel free to go nuts when eating. Fried Chicken: I was able to try a fried chicken breast, and sad to say, I was disappointed. The chicken was fried too long, with the meat being a bit chewier in some areas and being dry overall. Like the fried seafood, I don't think they use anything other than salt and pepper because there weren't any distinct flavors. Slice of Sweet Potato Pie ($3): I was in search for Peach Cobbler but they sold out yesterday. Sweet Potato Pie seemed to be the better alternative. Each of the individual slices are pretty thick, so you will indeed get a chance to savor the sweet filling. I can tell these were homemade for two reasons. First, you could see a huge baking rack filled with hot and fresh pies and cakes behind the cash register. Second, you could see the stringy fibers still in the pie. The crust was light and flaky and tasted fresh while the filling was sweet and creamy. According to the owner, they have new batches of desserts every Thursday. Quantity and price wise, I'd have to take a couple of stars off. For $16.95, I was expecting a whole lot more seafood or at least larger sides. For $14, I could get a 13x9 pan of rice, fries, roasted chicken, and ribs at a Portuguese take out. I like the food, but the quantity was lacking for me. The location blows. The batter kept separating from the fish which was all folded up because the box was too small. The fish was battered but unseasoned and very small (about the size of the palm of your hand).
