Came to this place to enjoy a seafood meal for two but I was extremely disappointed. The menu advertises a "Steamed Snow Crab Leg Platter" for 18.99 and the "Shrimp and a Rice Platter" for 8.99. If you see the pictures, I'm sure you would agree that neither are worth that price. One claw, a dry biscuit and seasonless corn is NOT worth almost $20 alone. Very dissatisfied and a total waste of money. Update: When I left to order food across the street, the woman at the front desk informed my boyfriend that I complained. She then stated that it's $18.99 for 1lb of snow crab... which is even more insulting. I have ordered 1lb of crab from Shoprite and plenty other restaurants before and that is not 1lb of crab. Please stop ripping people off. read more

This was some good, inexpensive seafood!!! This was my first time here because I literally thought it only sold seafood and not cooked orders but I was speaking to an agent at the post office and he shared thats they have some good seafood so being the foodie that I amI hopped into my car and drove over there and was not disappointed. I originally ordered salmon and shrimp but the woman who picked up must of not understood so I recommend if your going to order over the phone just double check make sure your order is correct before hanging up the phone. When you enter it's not the most presentable space in the way it looks but look beyond what u see and enjoy the food. The order came with a little white sauce I think it's Tatar sauce but it doesn't taste like traditional tartar sauce its better so add ( even if you don't like Tatar sauce)it to your food and and give it that extra kick! I paid a little less than 10 bucks for shrimp and rice with broccoli. It wasn't a huge portion size but I was satisfied and went there hungry ready for war but it did the trick read more

It pains me to give Fresh Fish Market a mediocre review since I so badly want this place to be amazing. We cook a lot of seafood and were ecstatic when the market opened a block away from home. Finally had a chance to try it out today. Got some scallops 30 mins after they opened on Sat, and cooked them up the same day. Something is definitely off with this batch. I cooked them according to the same recipe that has always yielded perfectly tender, plump, and sweet scallops in the past, but these were rubbery, took forever to cook, and had absolutely ZERO flavor. Weirdest textured scallops I've ever seen. I LOVE scallops - order them frequently at restaurants and know what they should taste like, and have NEVER been remotely disappointed in the past. Anyone who's ever cooked them will know that you shouldn't have to season w/ more than just a sprinkle of S&P - scallops have a perfect natural umami that you shouldn't mess with. I really want to give this place a second chance with something different, and will report back. P.S the market does have a strong fishy odor (NOT the case with most "good" fish markets), and there was a blue crab just crawling around on the ground. At least it was fresh and alive :) read more

Visited the area since my boyfriend lives nearby, and decided to try something new for brunch! We passed by here and got the steamed crab by the lb. and the fried combo platter (fried shrimp, scallops, whiting, and sweet potato fries side). If you want authentic, on the spot/freshly made seafood platters, you can literally watch them take the seafood off the ice and fry/steam it on the spot which ensures absolute freshness. It was also very quick too (about 5-10 minutes tops) for everything to come out. Food: Since you get things made on the spot, everything was crisp and still juicy/tender on the fried platter. Some places have really horrible breading, but this one was crunchy with the perfect amount of batter. I usually like cole-slaw, but was not fan of their version which didn't matter since the food by itself already had so much flavor. The steamed crab legs though were an absolute steal - big/huge crab legs filled with lots of meat served with a side of melted butter!! They even give you some scissors to cut open the crabs. I would absolutely order the crab legs if you're wondering what to get. Service: Very sweet people running the store. They were polite/friendly, and allowed us to wash our hands in the back sink counter after we made a mess from breaking open the crabs. Atmosphere: It was originally only a seafood market when it first opened, so don't expect it to be a restaurant or to be designed as a sit-in restaurant either. There's also no public bathroom. But I really liked it because it was a unique experience to eat in, and I really appreciated seeing everything being made super fresh/on the spot. If you come in with the mindset of wanting to have a fun experience of cracking open some delicious crab legs in the summer heat with the smell of the ocean at the tips of your fingers despite being in the middle of Rahway, this is your place. read more

Not only a fish market, but a place you can sit and eat as well. I enjoy the concept. The interior is shabby but you're not gonna wanna sit here for longer than it takes you to eat your snack anyway. Basically a chicken shack that serves seafood. They do have a decent selection of combos..scallop..whiting..the scallop combo was what I wanted but for the price (11.99) it wasn't worth it to me for only 5 scallops ended up getting their jumbo shrimp combo. I didn't want fries so they gave me 2 corn on the cob instead. Corn is corn so I'll get into the shrimp. There were at least..maybe 10 or 12 shrimp? They were indeed quite large. The seasoning was good but on certain shrimp it was waaay too much. Like clumped on. The flavor seemed to be some type of Old Bay variation. The shell was also still on which kinda annoyed me but that's subjective. But I find that when you leave the shell on the seasoning isn't present on the actual meat. I do love the concept because sometimes you just want some seafood..in a relatively in and out situation. I think me and my friends meal took about 10 minutes. Not bad. And I like that they also sell fish. Not sure if I will try that out as I don't live in town but as an option, that's awesome. read more

Fish is always fresh. The cooked fish is cooked to order and very tasty. My new go to for dinner or a quick snack.

So good... I'm usually disappointed by fried seafood shops, but tried the fried shrimp and fried whiting sandwich and this place did not let me down. Whiting was perfectly battered and cooked, delicious, and the shrimp was amazing. Juicy, not overcooked, can't believe I found seafood this good at a random family-run fresh fish market. Definitely come here for great fried food! Their fresh fish also looked really solid, lots of people were picking up fresh fish when I was there. read more

Ordered a scallop platter and a fish and chips platter. The french fries were barely cooked. The cod that was used for the fish and chips was sliced so thinly with heavy breading. You could not pick up a piece of fish, it collapsed. I never saw scallops that were sliced . They looked like 1/4 inch rectangles. The onions rings were terrible, all bread with little onions. Surprised that this market went downhill so quickly. read more

The food is decent but my most recent experience was TERRIBLE. I've been a loyal customer since they opened, all pleasant experiences with the young man who usually delivers and works the counter. But the elderly woman who works behind the counter is nasty and unprofessional! As a paying customer I had to "beg" and consequently be denied a to go container of tartar sauce with my meal SMH. Awful customer service! Needless to say, I'll never set foot or spend another dime in that place. read more

The fried shrimp is amazing!! Arguably the best fried shrimp I've ever had, which is surprising to find in the middle of jersey. The shrimp is big and juicy, and the breading is perfect, crunchy and not too light or too heavy. The whiting sandwich is also great, super crispy and flaky fish. No little bones left behind either, which is really important for me when I get fish sandwiches :p The fried combo platter is great since it has the shrimp whiting and crab sticks, which is nice to have a little bit of everything. It's a lot of food for a good price. And it's great they have steamed and pan fried options too, in case I want to go the healthier route. I've tried their steamed shrimp which was perfectly cooked and seasoned. And most importantly their seafood is always super fresh! read more

Best fresh fish around! Rahway has a hidden gem! I love the fish platters and the whiting sandwich. Have been going every Friday!
