I have weeks of texts from myself and the director Marjorie asking to please provide food my dad can eat. She swore it would be taken care of but it wasn't. All he wanted was grilled cheese and soup. I had to buy him food because they wouldn't give him food he would eat. Can't get rid of the fruit flies or gnats or whatever they are. Room is not cleaned. We brought silverware from home and put it in a drawer for him and it was taken. His room phone has never worked. So he's been in hospice for the last month or so. They threw his denture away. Sure it was accidental but they won't do anything about it. They said because he's in assisted living that they are not responsible. My dad can't even lift himself to put his teeth on the tray table but they said that's what he did. Now that he has no teeth...NOW they bring him grilled cheese!! Which he cannot eat. So I had to buy him oatmeal and soup and things he can eat. This man has lived his entire life being good to others. Hes a veteran, a Legionnaire, and a Mason. And this is how he is treated. I have many more texts about the care he didn't receive. I always believed they were trying and I'm not the demanding sort of person. There are a few really special people...like Arnie and Miley and Jasmine... they really try their best. Sadly, this facility puts money over doing the right thing when they make a mistake. My experience with Ignite Medical Resort Dyer was extremely disappointing and concerning. Based on…read morewhat I observed during my loved one's stay, I believe the facility falls far short of the standard of care and professionalism that its name suggests. On the very first day of admission, there was a cloth chair in my loved one's room that appeared to have dried human waste on the armrest. I immediately brought this to the attention of the staff. After investigating, I was assured that the chair would be removed right away. However, three days later, the chair remained in the room. Throughout the stay, the level of care, responsiveness, and bedside manner displayed by many of the nursing and CNA staff was unacceptable. The facility appeared to be understaffed, and there was a noticeable lack of urgency when patients required assistance. On numerous occasions, we used the call button to request help for my loved one. Not once did a nurse or CNA respond to the call button in a timely manner. Each time, a family member had to physically walk to the nurses' station to request assistance before anyone responded. My loved one shared a room with another patient, and I frequently overheard that patient calling out for help. She could often be heard moaning, groaning, and asking for assistance for extended periods. When staff eventually entered the room, I was shocked to hear them scold the patient, telling her that she was "always calling" and that she "didn't want anything." Witnessing this interaction was deeply troubling and demonstrated a lack of compassion and respect for a vulnerable resident. Another concern was the apparent lack of engagement with residents. Many elderly patients spent entire days sitting near the nurses' station with little to no interaction from staff. They appeared isolated, disengaged, and unhappy. The most disturbing issue occurred when I noticed what initially appeared to be clumps of dirt or lint along the wall behind my loved one's bed. Upon closer inspection, I discovered that the area was covered with hundreds, if not thousands, of ants crawling along the wall and throughout the room. I immediately reported the issue to staff. One CNA responded by saying, "Well, I just got here." A nurse then acknowledged that she had already informed the day aide about the ant problem. This indicated that staff were already aware of the infestation, yet no action had been taken to resolve it or relocate the patient. When I expressed my concern and disgust regarding the situation, the nurse rolled her eyes and told me that I should contact maintenance about the ants. I found this response unprofessional and inappropriate, especially given that the issue involved patient health, safety, and sanitation. My final negative interaction occurred during the discharge process. The nurse manager reviewed my loved one's discharge instructions and medications. When I asked questions regarding follow-up medications, I was met with visible irritation and an unwelcoming attitude, as though asking questions about my loved one's care was an inconvenience. I strongly believe the facility should reevaluate its hiring practices, staff training, accountability measures, cleanliness standards, and responsiveness to patient concerns. Patients and families deserve compassionate care, professional communication, and a clean, safe environment. The one positive aspect of our experience was the therapy department. I did observe meaningful improvement in my loved one's therapy progress, and the therapy staff appeared dedicated to their work. They were the bright spot in an otherwise disappointing experience. I was relieved when my loved one was discharged from Ignite Medical Resort Dyer. Based on my experience, I would not choose this facility again. I encourage families with loved ones in nursing homes or rehabilitation facilities to visit frequently and remain actively involved in their care. Photos and videos documenting the ant infestation are below.

My mom was a diabetic who was staying there because she had a fall and broke her hip, she was only 46. My mom would need help changing soiled pants and she would be left there for hours at a time while nurses would sit there and do nothing at the nurses' station. There would be times I would go to the nurse's station, and I would even ask them if they could come to my mom's room. I was even told one time "It's gonna be awhile" and she just sat there on the computer. They have no sense of urgency. They are completely unprepared to have diabetic patients. I walked in to visit my mom to find her in a state of Hypoglycemia, moaning, groaning, and completely out of it. I had to call in a nurse who claimed "She wasn't gone for that long" my mother was a sensitive diabetic and they knew that but left her unattended after my mom had told them her sugar was getting too low. For about an hour they were running around trying to find something to bring her sugar up and they COULD NOT find anything because no one knew where the needed items were, they were frantically running around telling me my mom would be fine, and they handled the situation unprofessionally after they were the ones that caused the situation, they ended up having to call 911. This was only one of 3 or 4 times this has happened. Two of them I was there for. In any bad place there are always good people though, the people in the cafeteria were always so kind to me and my family and the front desk people as well, just be aware that the cons weigh more than the pros with this place.

My family has been sitting in a dark room daily because the ceiling light needs to be replaced. Their response is to say they don't have maintenance to fix it. They "forgot" to order their powerful pain patch, and they are in excruciating pain, probably going through withdrawal. They keep saying their pharmacy is in Indianapolis instead of making arrangements to get the medication locally. The meals are tremendously lacking. One meal was a tuna salad sandwich with nothing to drink. They obviously don't have a dietitian on staff to ensure the patients receive proper nutrition. The call button goes unanswered for a long time. When I walked to the nurses' station, two staff members were sitting at their computers. People were obviously available to respond. It is sad to have a beautiful facility that refuses to provide the most basic requirements.

Yes I have problems with my hip but nowhere near as severe as my knee. The X ray tech only offered an unstable support device on my left side pushing me to the right. The device had 4 legs with a tall handle with two legs on the floor and two elevated on part of the x ray machine. I was in excruciating pain try to stay on my feet to prevent falling to my right. The support device should have been on my right where the bad knee is sitting on a level surface. Next I'm called into a room by a nurse who also seemed more concerned about my hip. My knee has been hurting for 3 years with the hip starting to give pain about 7 weeks ago but with mild pain. My right knee will no longer hold my full body weight. I asked about treatment for my knee but was told we're not dealing with that today. Knowing this wasn't the right course to get the ability to walk again and the dangers in X ray it was time to leave. didn't get to see a doctor yet I'm being billed for a missed appointment which I have no intention of paying since none were available for the primary reason of being there. The various puddles of urine at different levels of evaporation was a sign before X ray. There had been urine on the floor for hours. Hopefully I won't have to wait another 3 weeks to see a professional.

So I emailed Jemai, and did my best to explain to her my Mom in regards to her pain management. I know as a Director of Admissions, I would have been like who the heck does she think she is! Just kidding! But seriously, when you brimg your loved ones to a place you know nothing about, you're VERY nervous. It's understood that people have to become acclimated to systems, but sometimes there's a right away thing that comes about. And with our Mom, that's about what it is. Everything else, she's cooler than a fan. But Jemai acted right away! She emailed me back with the Director of Nursing, Kathy, a part of the email letting me know she passed along my concerns to the appropriate party. Then Kathy emailed me directly addressing my concerns with solutions!! Then Rhyle, the unit manager, responded introducing himself, letting me know to reach out with any concerns. Now I'll say this much in comparison to Ignite Medical Resorts, which I still love, Brickyard is A1 in response time in email form, which I appreciate, because I am an email kind of girl!!! Also have to thank Nurse Yasmine for getting the ball rolling, getting control of Mom's pain. She even got her setup with an orthopedist for her knee pain. So appreciative! And I met Jasmine, whom my Mom loves!! I asked about laundry, and she took Mom's clothes right down. Hope they make it back. Lol TBC She also talks of how much she helps her, along with TaNiyah. When you find genuine caring people, it means the world. Then there is therapy, which my Mom talks about alot. She even has good nurses on the midnight. Thank you to the midnight shift. She doesn't remember names well. Lol She talked about how much she's getting up and down in therapy. Will admit, haven't seen it yet, but says she be wore out!! Lol That's a good thing. So thank you LaTisha, Sue, and whoever Rick?, hope that's right. She talks about them often, with a smile. Thank you to Ms. Bianca, the Unit C manager. She made sure to ask what Mom needed, especially a walker, which is what we said. She said she'd get it ordered, with a list of other things. Everyone has been so helpful. ADMIN AND UNIT C ROCKS! It is so appreciated. The things you hear are sometimes often misconstrued!!

Their dedication and compassion truly made all the difference. My mother received rehabilitation, skilled nursing and memory care while at Spring Mill. The facility itself is exceptional--clean, well-maintained, and free from unpleasant odors. More importantly, the staff is amazing, providing attentive and professional care. The leadership team is actively involved and has gone above and beyond to communicate with our family and ensure my mother continues to receive quality healthcare as she transitions to another facility. I cannot thank Spring Mill Health Campus enough for the care, dignity, and respect they have shown my mother. If you are looking for a nursing and rehabilitation center that genuinely prioritizes patient well-being, this is the place to go. Highly recommend!

The hospice staff (which is separate from the facility) was wonderful, but some of the staff at Spring Mill were horrible. No one wears any name tag or ID, so when I tried to register a complaint, I couldn't name the employee. My mother had dementia and 3 different cancers which were very painful. We were assured that a family member could stay with her overnight, which my nephew did, but the next evening one of the nurse's aides insisted that he had to leave because it was against the rules to stay overnight. The next morning we arrived to discover that my mother had not received any pain meds overnight because "she never asked for them". I again explained that her dementia made it hard for her to remember where she was and why she was there. I'm pretty sure no one checked on her all night. Later that day I overheard the aide telling another staff member that my nephew "looked sketchy" and if he stayed the night she was going to clock out and go home. I went to the nursing supervisor to let her know that some of the night staff seems to be worried about their safety, and she rolled her eyes and said they have no reason to be worried. I went back to that aide and said I tried to bring her concerns to the supervisor and she just looked at me. Then I asked her what exactly she means by the term "sketchy" because I didn't understand, and she said she didn't have to answer to me and she takes excellent care of all the residents. Then I said, "How can you say that when you were ready to leave them shorthanded all night because you didn't like the way my nephew looked?" Next thing I know she's screaming at me while the other staff members are dragging her down the hallway. I told whatever staff members who were there that I didn't want that woman anywhere near my mother because I can't trust her. I never saw her again for the remainder of my mother's stay. The next two weeks were filled with repeating why my mother couldn't ask for pain meds but was obviously in pain, stopping them from rolling her over to change her diaper until AFTER her meds, dealing with nurses who refused to place the drops of medicine in her cheek unless she was alert (some would do it, others would not). I finally figured out that we would be able to take better care of my mom in her apartment with the help of hospice. I was paying a fortune to be frustrated and angered by insensitive people who have no business caring for our loved ones. I later discovered that Medicare.gov has a rating system for nursing homes, and, not surprising, Spring Mill had their lowest rating. DO YOUR RESEARCH!!

That…read moreunfortunately became a reality in 2023, after I was hit head-on by a wrong-way driver with dementia on I-39. I just wanted to take the time to recognize the staff at Thrive of Lisle, as they took great care of me. Shoutouts to CNA's Alan & Harrison; nurses Shirley, Mark and Gina. They are the best! Kellie from activities, Jerome and Sue are always roving the halls and engaging with residents. The positivity and enthusiasm of the staff is truly contagious, and made this long recovery journey easier for me. Therapists Susan, Ed, Keyenna and Tiffany have been helping me work towards my goal to be able to walk again and use my left arm. I love Thrive of Lisle, and the staff here. 2023 was easily the darkest time of my life. I nearly lost my life, and was not sure if I'd ever walk again, or be able to return to the career that I love. The staff at Thrive treated me like family. I can't tell you how much happiness and hope that CNA Alan, Nurse Shirley & Kellie brought into my life during this time. They are truly special people. I still come back to thrive and visit at least 4 times a year. It's rewarding for me to visit the current patients during activities time, as well as spreading positivity and encouragement. I also love seeing my extended family (the Thrive staff). My advice & words of wisdom for incoming patients and their families: * Advocate for yourself as the patient; if you're a relative; please advocate for your loved one. * Treat the staff with love & respect (I promise it'll come back to you ten-fold, and will be a much better experience for you & the staff this way.) * You might be shy at first, but take full advantage of the activities that Kellie puts together! From craft-making to group games; it's a fun time for everyone! (Even the patient's visitors are encouraged to participate). * It doesn't matter if you're bedridden, the staff will make sure to get you out to socialize, shower, or PT. You just need to communicate your needs to them early enough in the day. * Family: PLEASE don't underestimate the power of your visits. Frequent visits will greatly help your loved one as they strive to recover. I had at least 2 family members taking turns visiting me throughout each day. *Keep in mind, you ARE allowed to sit in on your loved one's physical therapy sessions. - Just ask the therapist as a courtesy* * Stay positive & Keep on thriving! Respectfully, Tim

But when you've suffered an unexpected physical injury that left you with a lot of pain, and you've lost your mobility and the freedom you once knew you had, no amount of space or room to breathe will take away the feelings of irritability, annoyance, and that everything just seems "wrong" for me. This place somehow found a way to make it "right", one-day-at-a-time, starting with my first night when I was welcomed in my suite by the Hospitality Director, Marilyn, who gave me hope that I will get better here. I had no idea why I was here until I met the Physical and Occupational therapy team who, in a manner of speaking, built my body back to where I feel confident that I have the strength to walk again. Every day I woke up with a new ability to move - from being able to get out of bed on my own, manage my activities of daily living to taking that first difficult step since the accident. I worked with almost every PT/OT while I was there, and I can say that they are all very competent, caring, kind and compassionate. They all know what they're doing and they did a great job with me!!!! I very much appreciated that everyone in this facility honored and respected my desire for autonomy and independence. The admin staff were all available to help you in any way they can, from whatever you need while you're in the facility or whatever you need when you are no longer in the facility such as home care and equipment. The nursing staff are always there 24/7 when you need them and the CNA's are dedicated and tirelessly being of service. There are staff members that stood out for their exceptional service, warmth and kindness (you know who you are) but in fairness to everyone - you all made a difference to me while I was there, no exception. Special thanks to Dr. Yousuf for his kindness, compassion and care, and to Antoinette for her unwavering commitment to keep each guest engaged with her creative activities.
