My husband and I got married at 2 Penguins Tap & Grill at the end of September and overall it was a great day because I got to marry my best friend but I was disappointed in the venue. We had been working with one of the event managers (who did an amazing job), he wasn't able to be there on our wedding day and there were loads of miscommunication either between him, my husband, and I or between him and the rest of the 2 Penguins staff. We decided not to get a DJ so he offered access to their AV system (which we paid for) but on the day the manger on site wouldn't let us use it outside so I didn't have anything to walk down the aisle to except a tiny Bluetooth speaker. As my husband was trying to get everything situated with that there were snide comments made by the manager that "most people hire their own DJ" but we thought based on our discussions planning the event that the AV system would still cover both inside and outside audio. I also asked before the event if someone could help us setup the AV, which they assured me they would, but no body helped and it fell on my husband and family. There was also a lot of drama about how I could down the aisle. We booked the back room/patio area and while we were planning the event, the event coordinator helped us figure out where the aisle would be but we weren't told that there is only one way into that back room (which was the same way as everyone else). My husband and I decided not to do before pictures so I was surprised when they were trying to get walk around in front of my husband and all of the guests before I walk down the aisle (thankfully, after discussion with the manager on duty and the owner they let me walk through the kitchen). I understand this is likely as much on myself for not asking the right questions, but I honestly didn't think I needed to ask if there was a way to get to the aisle without being seen -- I would have thought at least one of the other weddings they've hosted would have had a similar setup. Throughout setup, the ceremony, and the reception there were a lot of snide comments and my husband was treated terribly before they found out he was the groom. The icing on the cake (pun intended) was that as we were paying for our bill the manager on duty purposely mislead my husband that the mandatory 21% gratuity that gets added automatically doesn't actually include tips to the staff and is just their hourly rate (both him and I thought they were getting paid waiting wages). Halfway through our honeymoon the event coordinator called to make sure the extra tip we paid on our wedding wasn't an accident and I explained our understanding and he told us that they get paid a comparable wage and don't expect tips like waiting staff (thankfully the event coordinator reversed that charge for us). Overall the venue was one of the more affordable options we could find and everything worked out but if I had a do-over, I wouldn't have chosen 2 Penguins. If you're interested in getting married at 2 Penguins I'd make sure to ask a lot more questions, get a lot in writing, and would suggest asking if the event coordinator could be there on the day of. I imagine most of our issues were miscommunication but it was still disappointing. read more

Arrived here on a Thursday at 8:45pm. Waiter took our order for drinks and an appetizer. He came back several minutes later and we ordered food. He then returned to inform us the kitchen closed at 9 and they wouldn't make our food. It was 9:03 when he informed us of this. It would have been nice for him to inform us of this when taking the appetizer order, and to let us know the kitchen would close soon. When I informed him that it was 3 minutes past 9, he said "they are real strict back there" A "manager" came over and told us he would try to get them to make our order. He also returned shortly informing us that the ingredients for one of our entrees had been thrown out due to the kitchen being closed. We paid for our drinks and appetizer and left with the manager telling us to "have a nice life". So if you like the "soup nazi" style restaurant this may be for you. I prefer a place that isn't in such a hurry to go home that they will accommodate you. BTW, the place closes at 10 pm. The snide comment by the "manager" was uncalled for as well. Our first time and we will never be back. We arrived and sat ourselves like the sign directs. Shortly after, someone dropped off menus. Then not a single server acknowledged our table for 15+ minutes, although there were at least 8 servers constantly in and out and hanging by the bar. Turns out our server was a girl whom I had made eye contact with at least a dozen times, and who only had 1 other table at the time. About 15 minutes later, she came back to take our orders. My boyfriend started to order an entree, when she said that they do not serve entrees after 9pm, only appetizers. Although we had no knowledge of the time cut off for entrees, If our table had been attended to properly when we first came in at about 840pm, we could have eaten a proper dinner. Anyhow, he ended up ordering chicken bites and an order of fries. My mom ordered a side of mac and cheese and a basket of chips. I ordered the spinach artichoke dip and the hummus plate. Literally the only things that were edible and some-what good were the fries and the hummus. The chicken bites were a weird texture and cold. The spinach artichoke dip was cold and had a weird taste. The basket of chips was cold, soggy and soaked with oil; the bbq sauce tasted like straight whiskey. The mac and cheese was cold and tasted like nothing. To top it off, our waters were served without ice and were never re-filled, it took about 20 minutes to get a sample of beer, and the server did not come back to check on us until 20 minutes after she dropped off our food. Clearly visible that we ate almost nothing, she asked how everything was, and when we told her that we didn't like most of it, she said I'm so sorry and put down the check. Breading was so thick! Probably 75% breading and hardly any fish. Fries and slaw were pretty good. Cilantro tartar sauce was a bit bland. Burger was over-cooked. Ordered med-rare. Had no pink. Lots of char. Boring burger. Dry. Would not recommend. Ketchup made it bearable. Dessert: cream cheese frosting carrot cake. Menu made this sound like the frosting would steal the show. Maybe too hyped. Again; run-of-the-mill. It was good but, had higher expectations after reading the menu description. Drink service was slow. Ordered the Moscow mule. Didn't come in a copper cup. Came in a glass. This made me understand why they're served in copper cups. Much more enjoyable. The ice melts quickly. Also, beer selection is occupied by mostly IPA's. Hipsters probably would love the selection. I'd like to give 3.5 stars. The extra half star is for the guy play acoustic guitar/harmonica. Talented fellow. Good voice. Good guitar/harmonica skills. Thank you, sir, for improving the evening! Keep up the good work. This is a spot to take your kids; as they probably would not notice the over-cooked food and slow service. The food and beer here are excellent; however nothing makes up for the lackluster service and asshole manager. The only thing worse than the manager's attitude is the fact he obviously doesn't care at all for the safety of his patrons. I will preface this post with stating that I have waited tables for years so I have industry experience and empathy. We dined here for the first time a few weeks ago. The service was horrendous but the food and atmosphere was good so we returned today upon the decision to give it a second chance. Service was not stellar but much better. Upon leaving I asked for a manager as my husband and I noticed a hazard outside we wanted to mention. They have a grassy area and a gazebo out back off the patio which the kids pay on. (All kids outside, not just mine). One of the wooden railings had come off and there were four old screws sticking around 1.5 inches out which easily could have hurt a child or adult unknowingly. It was actually broken last time we were there... maybe 2-3 weeks ago but I had walked out there this time and noticed it. No big deal, easy to fix right? Upon mentioning it to the manager his response, in a rude tone was "yeah I know. The kids broke it just the other day". Me (nicely) "well maybe you could at least remove the screws or maybe nail them down until you could fix?". He literally responded with "yah we will get around to it" and then turned around. I have never been so rudely treated in a restaurant by a manager/owner. I was not mad, or complaining to be rude, it was a hazard that could honestly get him sued and he was a total asshole about it. They have kids menus, they list "good for kids" on the business pages and they don't post signs asking kids to stay off the grassy area or gazebo so he shouldn't be annoyed they are out there and he should strive to have a safe place of business regardless. I will never return to this establishment as there are plenty of nice people out there trying to run businesses I can give my money to. read more

I love this place ever since a friend took me there during this Covid time. Their outdoor patio is not only very pretty with hanging baskets and turf areas, but also very comfortable with the Social Distancing of the tables, the disinfecting between customers, the appropriate measures taken by staff and not to mention how good the food is! I've now been back a 1/2 dozen + times in probably 6 weeks, and will continue to bring friends and family. I've been here a few times now, and have to say that it does not disappoint. My first visit was for a holiday party in 2016, and they handled our large (300+) group of folks very well. The catered food was good, and there were several beer and wine stations around the group area. I've gone twice for dinner, and the last time I went, I was fortunate enough to get the fried chicken. (DISCLAIMER: I'm from the northwest, not the south, so I may not know what I'm talking about here.) It was the best fried chicken I've EVER had. Crunchy, juicy, VERY flavorful, and an excellent price for the amount of food you get. I can say with some confidence that I've been dreaming about this fried chicken ever since. My birthday is coming up, and I've always gone to a certain restaurant featuring a red bird, but I'm bucking the trend and going for some fried chicken this year. Ok, enough about the fried chicken. They have an excellent beer selection that is regularly rotating, and a huge outdoor patio. Tried this place out for lunch last week and I was pleasantly surprised. Before heading there I looked up the menu and it all sounded good, but I had no idea it would be THIS good. We were here last Saturday celebrating my brothers 40th birthday. My 3 year old son walked over by the fireplace to get birthday cake and I turned away for a second. He started screaming hysterically. He had touched their fireplace and was burned on both of his hands. We touched the fireplace and it was hot enough to cook breakfast on. It has no screen or anything to protect people from touching it or running into it. The manager on duty was rude to both my husband and I about it. He blamed us for not watching our child. Why would a fireplace be on when it's 60 degrees outside? And why would you have something so dangerous in an area that kids are allowed? One of the best tap houses in Denver. All local beers on tap with a selection for anyone on the spectrum from light lagers to hop head IPAs. Do yourself a favor and sit at the bar if you can. The bartenders are certainly personable and will strick up a conversation with you if you engage. The food is great. Consistent, delicious comfort food. I was there tonight for some dinner (Tuesday, September 5), and the food and service was absolutely fantastic. I had a Coconut Almond beer, sounds crazy but was delicious. For dinner I had a margherita pizza, while my other two friends had the Thai Chicken salad and Fish and Chips. They both enjoyed their meals as well. The pizza came out hot and perfectly gooey cheese, not greasy whatsoever! Our server, John, was wonderful as well! Attentive, kind, and very prompt. Fantastic food. Great Colorado brews on tap. Grab the legendary Bierstadt slow pour pils on tap here rather than trekking to downtown Denver. We ordered the fried chicken and fish and chips. Mac and cheese for the kiddos. All great and topped off with 2x kids homemade ice cream sandwich for frees. The venue is in a weird spot and looks strange...like it may have sold cabinets or log cabins or something but they turned it into a great place. I used to come here for work hosted functions and always was treated well and had a good time. Remembering this, I decided to host a baby shower here. It was a night and day experience from our private work functions. A few guests arrived that had not RSVP'd so we went to let the event manager know and ask the best way to handle it, he was rude, condescending and talked down to us ( younger women). Our guests saw this exchange and were so concerned about the way he was talking to us that our guests apologized and offered to leave. Our drink server was great though, she was the only upside of the day and the food was okay. Sadly, what was supposed to be a joyous occasion was not due to treatment by this establishment. I won't speculate why we were treated so horribly but I have a pretty good idea, we had a mixed group and some people were treated wonderfully by staff and others not so much. Eventually some man came over from behind the bar he RUDELY said there was a 20 minute wait and to pull my mask up over my nose. Not 'Hello' not a 'sorry for the wait' not a 'welcome and thanks for visiting' just rude & matter of fact. If you are reading through the reviews you can only assume I was part of the wedding that got shut down. When this happened I was visiting at my table with a bridesmaid and couple other guests. There was dancing and socializing happening nothing rowdy and crazy. I was clueless as were most guests as to what happened. There can be fingers pointed on both sides but the reality is there is not a single person at that wedding party that felt the bride and groom deserved to be treated the way they were treated or wanted anyone to lose their job. Before the accusations of bringing in outside alcohol were known several were already not impressed with how rude we were treated when decorating, safety of guests was not considered when the floor was mopped (mind you no spills or tracks were present) while setting up and right as starting to dance. The food buffet was taken down during toasts, staff was taking drinks before they were finished ( I even had a staff member try and take my glass when I had it in hand with a solid drink left.) Two positives: the young bartender very friendly and only staff member that acted like he wanted to be there and the floors were clean! For future reference- I'm not excusing bringing in outside alcohol but it happens a lot at many venues. What I've seen other venues do, they have someone at the exits. Tell the people paying the bill and they can make an announcement it needs to stop. Why not pull the father or mother of the bride aside and have a conversation about what can we do to get this stopped. This is a young couple trying to enjoy their wedding day and NOTHING is deserving of a bride getting yelled at in the manner she was talked to. She was grabbed by the shoulder while dancing told he was f$&@ing tired of this and f$&@;ing shutting you down. I've seen the responses about fear of losing liquor license and I read the Colorado liquor laws and since management was clearly not encouraging this behavior this would not have happened. So if you stuck with me on this review this is more than about breaking contracts, it's about how you treat people and the way it was shut down was not ok. read more

The owner, or manager is not professional. They need a lesson in hospitality, I wouldn't book an event here. Yes, empty shooters from the limo were brought in to be thrown away, and empty beer can was found. Yes, you warned the bride who has so much to do. The bride and groom have to take care of all their guest, pictures, mingle, speeches etc., yet you didn't tell the people who are paying the bill and can shut it down. THAT IS BASIC KNOWLEDGE TELL THE PERSON WHO IS PAYING THE BILL! Not the drunk bride having a good time. HOWEVER, THAT PART WE ARE IN THE WRONG. How your manager handle this situation was uncalled for. From the moment we showed up he was yelling at guest and the bridal party to go outside. We had to tell him we were the bridal party and we're staying inside. He rushed us to start the wedding by opening the doors, when we weren't ready, and left them opened despite. Not only that, your manager was yelling in the brides face and made her cry on her special day. If you are wanting to follow the law, have your bartenders ID patrons. All you have to do was tell them a name for a tab and they would add it. Multiple underaged guest were able to purchase alcohol, as well as OFFERED by staff for the toast. That's on parents as well, but if it's your jobs your worried about, I would start there. I worked for over 10 years in hospitality and was shocked by the treatment the bride and groom had to witness. When the groom went up to ask questions trying to get answers he was just told to get the f-- out by the manager and the bartenders stayed quiet. Only one answered us after asking multiple times. This is such an unsuspecting place that I would have known about it if it weren't for friends recommending it. I've been meaning to stop by here for a drink or food since it's on my way home but just never had the chance. Then one night I was getting my tires done and decided to stop over here. The entrance doesn't face Arapahoe so you have to go in on the south side of the building, there's a little walking path or tons of parking so either way you make it there, you're good to go. The inside space is beautiful--very rustic and minimalist but at the same time it feels homey. They have ping pong tables inside plus a small bar area then tons of tables and tv's so it's a perfect place to catch up with friends and/or catch a game. I stopped in during happy hour and had a beer (you can get pints and tasters if you just want a small sip of something), French onion soup, which was amazing and took them up on their offer of $5 pepperoni pizzas during happy hour. The pizza is six slices so I ended up taking some home and it was great leftover. Fun local business to support, I will be back soon! read more

I am absolutely livid about our dining experience tonight. What makes it worse and more disappointing is that this restaurant was one of my favorites. The food was good but the service was absolutely nonexistent We were seated on the patio and waited 15 minutes and no one approached our table. Hostess that seated us came out and apologized and said she would find our waitress/waiter. Waitress finally came over to take our order and that was the last time we saw her. Food was delivered by another server. Our waitress never came by the table again to ask us about the food, refill our drinks or to ask us if we wanted to order anything else which I did. Asked to speak to a manager. Someone did come to the table and I shared our experience. She apologized and did comp our meal for the inconvenience . We have been customers for several years and I have invited people to dine with us at Two Penguins who have never been. Glad we didn't invite anyone tonight as we would have been embarrassed to rave about a place and then experience what we did. Come on 2 Penguins you have got to do better with the service read more

Finally made it here. In a bit of a secluded location off Peoria in centennial. The patio is beautiful, the parking is ample. This is an amazing spot to enjoy lots off small, or a few family style plates, at a reasonable cost. They appear to constantly update the beer menu, and offer 4oz flights which is nice. Our server came at the right time, all the time and was very non invasive. We had a few drinks, and the apps and burger were amazing. The pizza was pretty good, too. I definitely want to check this place out at night. The patio is large and green. Look forward to trying more of the menu, and it's always going to be a future lunch, wtf do we want option. read more
