This is my second visit to this very nice antiques mall full of dealers and booths. One of the…read moreladies working there remembered me from 2 years ago! It takes awhile to browse this entire store, and the variety of stuff for sale is pretty much what you expect to find. Lots of books, jewelry, vintage linens and lace, framed prints and furniture. Then there is the odd find of an absolutely precious working spinning wheel priced in my opinion way too high at over $300. I took an 18thc spinning wheel to the Antiques Roadshow and the appraiser told me spinning wheels are so plentiful world wide as to be worth only what someone will pay. I would pay $100 for that wheel so I didn't even consider an offer. I found a modern piece of Texas Redware with a yellow glaze misidentified as yellow ware. Yellow ware is made of yellow clay and this was clearly stamped redware on the back. The price was $45 and I asked a woman to contact the seller for a best price. Instead she said 10% was all she could offer. I really would have been looking to pay about $30, but since covid closures I've been less inclined to walk away over 5 or 10 dollars as I'm just glad places have survived at all. Many of the dealers had signs offering 25% and more off whatever they were selling, and sadly nothing I chose was in those booths. My friends, however, found all kinds of finds including in those discounted booths. So we all left happy overall. Of course I left behind that overpriced spinning wheel for someone else who thinks it is worth that price. This shop has really good hours so you can stop in there after other places close on your way out of town. I only get to Texas every few years, but this will stay one of my go to places when I do find myself in the Hill Country.

The shop takes up several rooms with clothing, toys, collectibles and kitchen wares, and some furniture, lamps, etc. Really a bit of anything. There was quite a few name brand items and some expensive though reduced high end purses. I found many of the prices overall to be higher than what I would consider a bargain. I saw some brand name clothing items that were a good price but with closing imminent I did not have time to try them on. I did not find any bargains for myself, but overall this thrift shop is well organized, plenty of items and probably some bargains to be found with time to look.

I found a new pack of needles for $1, a sweet crochet purse for $3 and the staff/owner sold me a slightly in need of love German pyramid music box for $10. I left very happy with my purchases. I found three skirts that I liked and they were priced from $5 to $12. Excellent! There were quite a few that were more expensive and there were lots of name brands to choose from. Gernin also had a good selection of vintage jewelry. You might miss Gernin if you aren't looking for it, as it is set perpendicular to the road. It is located only a few doors down from Fuddruckers and has some well-dressed mannequins in the windows. A tip: parking can be a little crazy in the small lot around lunch time, but any other time of the day should be perfect. Gernin is a fun little place to spend a few minutes shopping for cute, reasonably priced clothing. I will definitely go back there after a few months to see the new stuff what they have in.
