Sure enough, Portia, studio owner, greeted me with a warm smile, had time to fit me in and had me take a seat. Portia is very talented and always knows just what I want. I'll take in a photo of the haircut I want and she gets it to a "tee". If I don't have enough hair for a particular style, we work together to grow, style, cut and in time, we get there. I hear she's equally talented with color application, though I've not had color treatment (yet). I've recommended friends who are "afraid" of seeing someone new and Portia "WOWS" them every time. Her rates are reasonable, she's established in a cozy niche in the North Loop area and is involved with bettering our community. She's working on expanding her studio, though sadly the remodeling project is at a temporary standstill. So, go see her, and tell all your friends. As soon as her expansion is complete she'll be offering massage and an array of other sundries. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- UPDATE 082209: Whoever owns the building at 207 E 53rd Street is obviously an unfair, underhanded landlord. I went to Portia at Good To Go Studio for years. In the last year she was SO excited as she rented the opposite corner of the building and had TWO spaces leased. After a great deal of remodeling, expense, and sheer excitement at expanding her business, seems the landlord got a better offer from "new, other" tenants and greed overtook his morals. Portia was evicted from the shop with no notice, and lost all of her investments into the recent improvement and remodeling and the additional space she had leased. This totally sucks. I heard through the grapevine that Portia was renting a chair in some shop out at Lakeline Mall, which ended up being temporary. Latest news is that she and her teen son moved to Oklahoma. Portia you are greatly missed. I've made a personal desicion to ban whatever present/future businesses exist at 207 E 53rd Street. My apologies to those renters/businesses that rent from the building owner. Beware of this building owner, you never know...one day YOU might show up to run your business and told you must leave with no notice! My decision to BAN this building is the only way I know how to NOT patronize the owner of this building in any way whatsoever.

It's super cute and everyone there is very friendly. They offer an array of services including manicures, facials, eyelashes, waxing. Andrea is very cool. I love hearing her speak Portuguese ;) Anyway, I showed her a haircut that I really liked - about shoulder-length with layers and bangs that are not too blunt - and she nailed it! Some other highlights (excuse the pun) was a deep conditioned treatment that sat on my head for 10 minutes and some delicious wine that helped me relax! She'll be my new hair stylist...I like her, the salon and her rates are affordable...Check her out!
