I went with several of friends for a wine tasting event. It is a cozy place for an afternoon tasting. We had such a good time and TY was at this event. He and his staff members are down to earth with great sense of humor. It was such a delight to see his mom mingling with people to support his event!! My favorite spot in the area, love their wines and the tasting room expeirence was such a fun time. We visited with a party of 6 and had the place to ourselves due to the early time slot. We tried a couple of their flights and everyone fell in love with these wines. The guy taking care of us was knowledgeable, passionate about wine and the area, and also happened to be a lot of fun. Located in a shopping center off the main road this is a great spot to stop and explore (multiple tasting rooms, a cafe, a beer bar, market, and so on). Easy parking. read more

STEPH JUDGEMENT: Chill, intimate tasting room with great wines and service. We were staying in the area with some friends and wanted to walk to a tasting room that was part of the Priority Wine Pass network (prioritywinepass.com). We first took a gander at VJB next door but decided it wasn't our vibe and kept going until we peeked into this place. Small and unassuming, we were enticed by the laid-back atmosphere and a friendly greeting by George, the server on duty. He was a really great guide and we whiled away two pleasant hours learning all about the Ty Caton vineyards and tasting some really great wines (lots of different Cabernets, especially). It never got too crowded and hectic on the Sunday afternoon of our visit, which was fine by us. We would definitely visit them again the next time we're in the area! read more

The wine tasting experience at the Ty Caton Vineyards Tasting Room was incredible. Not only did George have a fantastic sense of humor and great County Kerry Irish brogue, but his knowledge of and obvious passion for the estate-bottled wines they make was as much a treat as the spectacular varitetals we experienced. Cold barn area for tasting wasn't ideal but it was exceptionally cold that day and we warmed up quick!!! Great wine. We joined the wine club and bought candles. Remarkable wine, a very knowledgeable staff, and affordable selection make Ty Caton a must-try for wine enthusiasts. Since I tried them out a couple years ago, I try to stop by every couple months and pick up a case on every visit. Ty Caton wines beat out Napa Valley's best wines. We had a wonderful experience at Ty Caton Vineyards. Our group of 8 was treated to quite an education by Paul Gillmore. We learned quite a bit about the history of the vineyard and of wine making in general. This is a small family owned winery with a very personal touch. The wines are great and reasonably priced. The tasting room is in an old horse barn that has been beautifully refurbished. I would highly recommend their wine tasting and the wine. read more

I am always a little bit skeptical to book a tasting at a tasting room because I never know what to expect, whereas I know how much I love a tasting that overlooks a vineyard. We decided to try out Ty Caton because it was on the Priority Wine Pass that we have which gives you 2-for-1 tastings here. The Priority Wine Pass has led us to some incredible wineries that we would not have otherwise tried, and this is one of those wineries! Our sommelier was George and he was a big reason that we loved this tasting! We did the Featured Estate tasting which was $25 but they also have a Reserve Cabernet testing for $30. We wanted some more variety so decided to go with the estate tasting. The tasting comes with 6 different wines plus George was generous and allowed us to taste some of the cabernets as well. We loved learning all about Ty Caton, the family history behind the winery, and the different regions in Sonoma where Ty has vineyards. We learned about the difference between the "Syrah" and the "Sirah" and how the Ballfield Syrah is named that because the vineyard where it is grown used to be a ballfield! George lives right around the corner from the vineyard and has a first-hand experience of talking about what the vineyard entails. He has such a passion for this winery, the story, and the family. He gave us great information about all the wines we tried, was friendly and funny, and made it feel like we were at a laidback gathering at a friend's house. This was truly the definition of an intimate tasting experience which can be hard to come by. We ended up loving several of the wines here; we don't usually buy many bottles but we did purchase a bottle of the Upper Bench Merlot! We loved this winery, we spent an hour and a half here and the time flew. We certainly would have stayed longer if we didn't have dinner reservations to get to. Thank you for a lovely experience, I will be back! read more

Our host, George, was accommodating , pleasant, and knowledgeable. I've had the pleasure of trying Ty Caton once prior to this tasting, so I decided upon visiting Sonoma to stop in. The single vineyard Cabernets are incredible and truly exemplify Sonoma Cabernet; finesse and power together. They are not the only high quality cabernet producer in Sonoma, but they offer fantastic value: Californian wine can seem exceedingly expensive, Ty Caton's wines are inclusive and affordable, and punch well above their weight. The tasting itself was guided, generous, and fun. Don't expect all of the frills of huge houses in Napa; this is a good thing. No pretentiousness, just great wine in a nice setting. History

Established in 1997.

Ty Caton Vineyards is located at Sonoma County's southeastern tip, in the heart of Sonoma Valley - the birthplace of California winemaking. While Ty Caton replanted the property in 1997, the vineyard's roots run much deeper and date back to the early 1920's and on through the depression. The original Sonoma winery, crush-pad and house still stand as a testament to the winegrowing history of the land. This strong tie to the historic nature of the estate has been a key point in its development. Ty continues this commitment by farming sustainability, and as the steward of the land, is able to follow and shape the wine from vine to glass.

Meet the Business Owner: Ty C.

Over 20 years have passed since his first vintage as winemaker, and Ty is still committed to making the next vintage his best. His relationship with the vineyard allows him to identify the best fruit in each block based on its soil, sun exposure, and altitude. His true craft is being able to bring the best of each block together and create a blend rivaling the best wines in the world. It is with this harmony of grower, land, and a commitment to maintaining history that has made Ty Caton Vineyards one of the premier vineyards in all of Sonoma Valley.

I didn't personally love the wines, but I'm not always huge on Italian wines. Both of the friends I was tasting with ended up taking bottles home, one of them quite a few! They have a kitchen, gelato shop, and a small market located in the tasting room. The gelato shop and kitchen were pointed out to us from a far, but we did get to explore the marketplace and the fun goodies in there. Along with the deli case food items, they also had jarred pastas and sauces to go. The piazza was a cool area, but on a hot day I was glad we were tasting inside with all the heat from the cement. They had some areas under a trellis that were nice and fully shaded, that would be my go to if tasting outside here.

They are located off of a side street, rather than the main road, but are worth a visit all the same. Their "hidden" location makes the experience feel casual, relaxing, and quaint. At the entrance to the lot, you'll see a blue vehicle and the LaRochelle logo, so you'll know you're in the right place. Parking is plentiful in front of the grapes. As you enter the building, you'll see a counter on your way in, as well as a collection of Library wines. In the back, where you'll sit for your tasting, it is a serene farmhouse feel. There is ample seating at picnic tables, etc. and while tasting, you'll enjoy the sounds of water trickling from the koi pond on the property. In fact, you'll feel as if you're in a friend's backyard, rather than at a winery. The croquet course and wide open grassy area further enforces that vibe. And how could one forget about the chickens! They have a few chickens on the property that occasionally have been roaming on our visits, but usually are in the coop. The owner's dog also occasionally makes an appearance. The wines are delicious and the staff is knowledgeable about the tasting notes and growing details of each wine. My parents are members at this winery, so I've been several times, and they are PHENOMENAL at making their members feel at home. In fact, they even just held a complimentary Member appreciation event where they provided an extravagant "make your own wreath" event, complete with fresh eucalyptus, pine, and all the decoration options you could possibly imagine, as well a turkey and mashed potato meal.

Founded by winemaker and owner Michael Muscardini, the winery beautifully embodies his vision of bringing a sense of "la dolce vita" to Sonoma wine country by celebrating great wine and the simple pleasures of life. Open here in this historical 160 year old school house for over ten years, and in operation for over a decade and a half, Muscardini Cellars is most celebrated for their Sangiovese wines as their grapes for this varietal are sourced exclusively to them and them alone providing for a uniqueness that cannot be found anywhere else. What brought a friend and I here for a warm winter weekend wine tasting was the fact that Muscardini Cellars was one of over fifty wineries participating in Sonoma Sips for the second year in a row where local wineries throughout Sonoma County offer walk-in visitors a tasting deal of three to four wine pours for only fifteen dollars, and in this day and age is a real treat. With plenty of parking and plenty of open seating both indoors and outside on their front patio that overlooks the Sonoma Highway, tasting room associates Nicole and Bethany treated us like VIPs. With a welcoming splash of their 2024 Pinot Grigio which was crisp and cool and had distinctive notes of peaches and melons throughout, it was a easy breezy way to start our special tasting. For our second pour, we enjoyed their signature 2021 Sangiovese, which is sourced from nearby Alice Vineyards, which we learned was started by a woman named Sandy and sources her grapes exclusively to Muscardini Cellars. This wine leans more approachable with earthier notes and more rustic thanks to being grounded in character rather than a bold, Brunello-style expression. A nice Sangiovese that is balanced and easy to enjoy, which highlights its nuance and structure without overwhelming the palate especially when paired with a fresh margarita pizza or gnocchi. Our third pour was their 2023 Barbera wine, which was sourced from nearby Mendocino County. This "daytime" red wine was soft and elegant through the mid-palate, giving it a luxurious feel that balanced what is typically a bolder, more forward style of red. Its structure and earthier character would pair beautifully with traditional dishes from Italy's Piedmont region, especially those featuring truffles or porcini mushrooms. What we thought would be our final pour was their 2019 Fortuna, which is a wine that represents a friendship and collaboration between winemakers Michael Muscardini and Brian Wise, who started B. Wise next door. We learned from Bethany that Muscardini started his vineyards only as decor on his property but a neighbor told him he should start a winery with his harvested grapes. Fortuna represents a combination of grapes that Muscardini and B. Wise have over the past few years. With a little bit of everything, this super tuscan wine is geared towards a palate of American wine as it is not heavy in tannins and is more acid friendly, especially when served with a creamy herb or garlicky entrée. After our Classico Tasting Experience wrapped up, Bethany was kind enough to pour us a sample of their 2022 Zinfandel, which proved to be both approachable and well-balanced, not to mention reasonably priced at $58 a bottle. At Muscardini Cellars, the red wines are crafted with impressive balance and pair beautifully with hearty dishes. The tasting room itself is gorgeous, complete with an outdoor deck that overlooks Sonoma Valley and the nearby highway, creating a relaxed and scenic setting for enjoying their wines. Between experiences like the Classico tasting, participation in promotions such as Sonoma Sips, and their ongoing wine pairing dinners, it's easy to see why Muscardini Cellars continues to thrive, and why their success will carry on for many years to come.

Hope the employee is okay, emergencies happen. Would hope in future there could be a post on their socials about a last minute closure or have the owner or another employee put a sign up or take over last minute. Hubby and I stayed up here after Grape Escape, and I booked him a long massage next door, so I can continue wine tasting - clever I know. Eric was at the counter when I walked in. I totally lucked out having the winemaker himself pour me wines and talk about all things vino! I purchased a tasty bottle and off we went to explore more of Glen Ellen. The owner runs his own shop and ran everything safely and amazingly. He wore a mask and had seatings outdoor spaces apart from one another. He was a fun person to chat with and appreciated his recommendations. A tasting is $20 per person, but if you purchase two bottles, it is waived. We ended up with our favorite, his Port wine mixed with a bit of whiskey! It was surprisingly sweet and delicious! A huge fan of it and definitely recommend :) he even brought out fresh water for my pup during the warm day. Great service and good wine :)

I'm not usually a big white wine drinker, but I loved their Sauvignon Blanc. Their reds were excellent (especially the Cab Franc), and the award-winning sparkling rosé was a standout. Top-notch service, amazing wine, and such a great vibe - don't miss this spot! Added bonus - you get to make a wish in the wishing well.
