a variety of chinese food items

I love this family-run herb store. I've been frequenting this place for over 10 years, but what finally compelled me to write this review is the young lady who helped me today. I was looking for suggestions on common cold medicine. She asked if I have a sore throat and the color of my mucus before recommending me suitable medicine based on my symptoms. I very much appreciate her willingness to help as there are many different kinds of traditional medicine with varying efficacy depending on your ailments and symptoms. Besides ginseng and tea, they also have a variety of healthy foods, dried goods and snacks. Sometimes they even have Sunny Hills and Chia Te pineapple cake from Taiwan. Need a minimum purchase of $20 for credit card transaction.

Love to come to this places as a candy store and treasure island. It's got so many things from Taiwan and China. When you need herbs. This is the place. When you need to be quenching your homesick, this is the place. The young girl can speak English, Mandarin and Cantonese to help you. They have been here for around 40 years and it is a reliable place for your need. Parking is usually right in front of the door on the street.

I have been to this herb place for traditional Chinese medicine many times. The owner and his daughter are very knowledgeable and professional. If you don't want to wait, you can order the herbs in advance via email or phone call. Absolutely will return again and recommend to friends and family.

I can't tell the difference in price of this vs other herbal stores, but I definitely know it's department store large though. Mandarin and Canto speaking staff. I don't know if they'll be able to speak English since cashier I interacted with didn't. Took me a while to find this in West 626 area: Nin Jiom Pei Pa Koa but as individual to go packets $8.99 vs whole glass jar. He's with soothing the throat, etc. They didn't have a different brand Chinese pear flavor cough drops here though. Also got soup herbal ball thing too for $1.99.

One of her BF's mother shares many of the old school Canto recipes that neither my sister and I have printed generation family recipes for. My sister was told about an ingredient called "Flounder Powder" that I researched and found it's one of those key ingredients needed to give your Won Ton fillings and/or broth that something-something you can kinda identify but can't figure out what that flavor is. After a year of asking FB Canto recipe pages and other Asian Foodies group, I gave up. I either had to order the powder out the USA or on Amazon for a ridiculous price for the amount. I tried again this past December and Googled Flonder Powder once more. This time, a local Asioan store was omne of the search results and since we were already in the area, we made a small detour to Wing Hop Fung located in Monterey Park, CA. Parking here is easy and not stressful. There is multiple Asian businesses located in this strip mall as well. My wife and youngest son decided to stay in the car while my sister, her hubby and I went into the store. The main reason my wife and son stayed behind is they are not used to the sometimes overwhelming smells that almost all Asian grocery stores have. When I entered Wing Hop Fung, the first thing I immediately noticed was the complete lack of any smell from preserved goods, dried foods, herbs etc. As I looked around by the entrance, there were barrels of dried, preserved mushrooms, seafood and othe dried Asian delicacies and it was completely odorless anywhere in that store. The elusive, almost mythical Flounder Powder is located behing the counter where the dried foods are. A salesperson manning this area will weigh out how much you want. During my late Dec. 2025 visit, the current pricing for the Flounder powder was $25.99 a pound. Your purchased amount is sealed in a plastic bag. As for the rest of the store, I was at a loss for words. There were sections for Asian branded cookware, rice cookers and other kitchen appliances. It was nice to see so many models offered for rice cookers, hot water dispensers etc. There is also manuy aisles dedicated to porcelain dishware. There was a big section devoted to tea: loose leaf, cakes, and a tea tasting bar as well. They also had a herbal medicine area where they can make different tonics for soups, drinking and so on. There is a large area for Asian branded medicines, tonics, ointments and other health care supplies. This store also carries a lot of fine bottles so wine. One cooler had bottles of wine priced at $40,000. They also had a large assortment of hard liquor, liquers, & sake, whiskies, Baiju and so much more. I really could've spent a lot of time in this store perusing each are more closely but dinner reservations were approaching and I would end up spending a lot of money here if I was was left unchecked. If you ever need to obtain Flounder Powder, a vast selection of loose or caked teas or just want to check out a really interesting Asian grocery store, you need to stop by here.

After having my 3rd baby,…read moreI kinda half-assed the postpartum recovery that I did for my body after my first 2 kids...(for many Asians like Chinese postpartum is no joke. I took it as a joke but learned my lesson the hard way. Staying warm, not using cold water to wash hands, not drinking or eating cold stuff, staying away from using the AC for a few months. Because supposedly after you have a baby all your bones are cracked wide open and vulnerable to cold stuff to get in, trapped, and make you suffer later.) My body was in a very horrible condition even 1-2 years after childbirth. Just a little spoon of ice cream or any cold food brought about a headache almost instantaneously and overall bad feeling, there was no more ice cold smoothies, bapbimsoo, ice coffee, none of that! I drank hot Americanos even on the hottest days, steam coming out of my head and sweat dripping down my temples. Although my acupuncturist put me on the hot infrared bed to "beat the cold out" of my body a few times as well as using the needles, the red korean ginseng ($35 a bottle/ yes cheaper than amazon so don't everyone rush in here at once or i may no longer get it here at this humble price lol) this place staff recommended me really helped in kicking that plague of cold out of the ballpark. Just a tiny spoon (half a teaspoon?) everyday (I think the the daughter said), and see if it energizes you. If so, then you can keep on taking it she said. It did, and after about 3-4 months, people said I looked much better, I felt much better, and I snuck in my first iced americano without a hiccup! Still I stay away from cold food and drinks on most days because I don't want to take too many steps backward just for a brief moment on paradise, but it's a big difference to have that option open up for me again! (Note: it did give me a huge appetite boost in the beginning so no matter how much I ate I could always have more food but that was probably what my body needed to get better. I still take it 1-3 x a week to maintain. Another thing, my kids had been coughing, like it will keep going for several coughs in the morning, and then stop for the rest of the day, and no it's not covid! Turns out as the lady in the back told me, since smog and pollution tends to linger and get stuck in the air of the San Gabriel "valley," it's good to take some herbs that "moisturize" the lungs. (润肺) She suggested making my own brew of polygonati (玉竹)apricot kernels (雙马牌)and sea coconut (海底椰)。Each pack was about $6-10 but can be used 4-8 times. She said to add some apple or pear slices and/or rock sugar to sweeten up the taste and give it to the whole family. She gave me a free medicinal pack sample to try at home. I preached this gospel to her, and I got the free sample pack for the hacking cough to try at home before I buy the next time in larger quantities, so I wouldn't say getting a free sample pack is a guarantee for everyone, but just to let you know that I happened to get a free sample pack (and perhaps why) and that ended up working out for me. Yes our coughs did get better eventually, but I'm not sure if it was because of the medicinal pack. By the way the Gospel is Jesus washed away all the sins of the world, past, present, future, at the cross 2000 + years ago, that's why the Bible says you have been perfected forever. It does not say that you have to do well and then "maybe" you'll go to heaven, it says that God has perfected us forever, that's why we'll go to heaven for sure. It's completely different. One will leave us in constant condemnation, exhaustion, and being mean to everyone with "you should have," the other will leave us free inside our hearts with joy. For us to say we have sin (is to ask Jesus to come back and die again--blasphemy! and if we say we have to perfect ourselves forever until the day we die and ask for forgiveness, that is nothing short of a demonic thought implanted by the sly and slick devil. (If you keep asking Mike to give you back your book, did Mike give it back? And if Mike already gave me the book, do I need to keep asking for it? If we already received the forgiveness of sins, then do we still need to keep on praying and asking for it? And if I am praying and asking daily for the forgiveness of my sins, does that mean I received the forgiveness of sins or not? If I have not yet received the forgiveness of sins, can the Holy Spirit come onto me, let alone dare to touch me with a 10-foot pole?) If we have any doubts always go back to the word of God: Hebrews 10:14 KJV says "For by one offering we have been perfected forever." "Oh I cannot say I'm perfect, that would be outrageous and arrogant." Who am I trusting, the word or myself? Are we more right? Then we can't accept it. However if life is tough and beats us up that we have no more strength to say no, then yes we are perfect forever, thank you Jesus. Then mission accomplished for God.
