The atmosphere is nice as there's never many people here. Came by when in town to place a rather large order for carry out and sat at the bar. This is a Thai place that doesn't serve beef. What's up with that? ‍ Was asked if I wanted something to drink while I waited thinking that was a courtesy thing. It was a bottle of Coke at $3.75 on the receipt. You'd think for a $120 food tab they could spring a $.35 bottle of Coke but I digress. The receipt came and I added a tip. I won't be doing that again, ever, for a carry out. That one is on me. We've made probably ~30 trips to this place over the past few years but that comes to a close. I can't keep patronizing a place that I feel takes advantage of people. read more

This is one of my favorite restaurants in Lynchburg, so I can't believe I haven't reviewed them yet! I have visited several times in person and have also ordered delivery and takeout other times as well. It is easily the best Thai food in the area. I love their vegetable sampler, curry dishes, and pad see-ew! It's fantastic that for most of their selections, you can choose any meat you'd like (even tofu) as well as your spice level, which makes it very customizable. I am always impressed with the quality and authenticity of their dishes. The employees are friendly and helpful as well. The atmosphere is lovely for eating in, and they easily can accommodate for groups. I'm surprised that I have never had to wait for a table. Highly recommend giving them a try! read more

As a lover of Thai food, this place was a must stop for my visit to Lynchburg. The staff were friendly, the place was clean, and the food was good. I only have 2 complaints, one of which doubles as a positive and a negative. Firstly, to me, the portion for the red curry was somewhat small. I (20M) generally eat a lot, thus for me this was an issue while for others it may not be. Secondly was the time it took for the food to hit our table. It clocked in at almost an hour. Yet this was perfectly fine by me. I understand and respect that places are short staffed, and I'd rather wait a while then have them closed down. But it also gives you time to talk to those who you are dining with, which adds a classical touch to this great experience. If you're in Lynchburg, give it a try! read more

Found my new favorite thai restaurant! I went for a dinner on Sunday with some friends and the whole experience was great. The staff, ambiance and food were excellent. We ordered couple appetizers to share, which were all delicious, and I had the drunken noodle with chicken. My friends got panang, pad thai and pineapple fried rice and they all enjoyed their food. I'm not sure why I've never tried this place before. I love Thai food and cook it for myself frequently. Today I decided to swing in for lunch. I sat on the patio since the weather was perfect. I also brought my golden retriever since they are pet friendly. It was delightful. The food. I ordered the Lunch Pad Kee-maw Noodle (Drunken Noodle) $8.89 with shrimp as my protein (1$ extra.). It was perfectly spiced. Medium they called it. One pepper. Just right for me but probably too much for some. It was delicious. it also came w a nice bowl of vegetable soup. For desert I had the Mango Sticky Rice ($5.99). It was amazing too. The rice was sweet and the mangoes were ripened to perfection and flavorful. My waitress, Alyson, was very attentive, friendly and helpful. She's a true Thai food fan so ask her what is good. She won't steer you wrong. And then leave her a generous tip. I will definitely be back and I can't wait to try their take-out which is clearly popular. read more

This 3 stars could have been 4. I decided to venture out to lunch with my roommate and was left full but not fully satisfied. The atmosphere is cute and after seeing the menu I had high hopes for the drunken noodles but sadly I was left wanting more. I order the noodles Thai hot and I felt like the spice wasn't even mild. I could barely taste the "Thai" heat. The appetizer was over cooked but we were so hungry after waiting for our food we inhaled it. While waiting for our entree's the power went out in the building for a minute. No one even addressed it to us while we were sitting on the dark which could mean it happens enough that it's nothing alarming to them. The entree arrived and she cleared the appetizer plates. The meal was definitely better than the other Thai places in town but that's not saying much since there is only one other restaurant. I think the cost to portion ratio is good for what you get in an entree but not for appetizers or deserts. I try to make it a point to try new deserts when I go out to eat and the fried ice cream was more presentation than taste. The red sauce was bitter and the ice cream was not very good. Finally our server checked on us and after asking the server about the cash discount she said I didn't qualify since she had split our checks for us. I had planned to pay for my roommate and I with cash but after the "hassle" our server said it would be to combine the checks we just paid and left. read more

Wonderful food! Good service, and timely take out, but a bit pricey. We spent $85 for 2 fried rice, and a red curry with chicken. That includes tip. My major problem is the littlest thing. When needing a box for leftovers of the red curry, my request for more rice was met with an extra $2 charge for a very small portion to begin with. As with anything, it's the little details that count, and this is so inconsequential to give an extra scoop of rice for a to go, but for me, one that will keep me from coming back. What a shame after coming here for years, and to not be appreciated as a return customer alone says a lot, but the obvious common practice of hitting customers up for $2 scoops of rice is appalling. We order from here almost every week and love the food. However, they messed up two orders and gave us chicken instead of tofu. Accidents happen, we were willing to bring the food back and get the correct order but they refused to fix it. I was absolutely blown away with my meal. I'll be honest, I had never had Thai food before, so I went in not really knowing what to expect. I ordered the Massaman curry for lunch, and by the time I was done, there wasn't a crumb left. The flavors were so incredible. If you like Indian and Vietnamese food, you would like this dish. It reminds me of a thinner indian curry, except instead of it being very tomato-y, you could taste aromatics more. I will come back and order that again and again. I also appreciate the fact that you can choose your protein to go with it, the chicken paired beautifully with this dish. The service was also very great, I was quickly sat down, very clean place, got the soup of the day 3 minutes after being seated, and got my entree 5 minutes after that. The pricing wasn't bad either, $18 for the lunch entree and the taro buns. I'm not sure exactly what the soup of the day was, but it was refreshing and delicious. I also decided to get the taro buns after, while they can't compare to the Massaman, they still were a delicious dessert after. A little sweet, a little savory, and very soft. Easily the best Thai food in the area but the service is very slow. It's a shame because I'd eat here regularly if the service was quicker. Every time I've been it's take 2.5+ hours to get through a meal (without dessert). I NEVER write reviews but feel I am doing someone a favor. Worst dining experience EVER. Please don't waste your time, energy, or hard earned dollars at this establishment. The waiter should be back in the kitchen and not posturing in public. I never leave a bad tip, but I HAD to. I once worked in a Thai restaurant, so I know a bit about the cuisine and a lot about being a server. I feel like the waiter should have tipped me for putting up with his rude, negligent, uncaring, selective hearing, attitude. Also, my meal was terrible, I asked for some Thai basil and was told the dish would need to be sent back into the kitchen with an additional fee. The dish listed basil as a main ingredient. The cook came to the table to tell me that they spend 15 dollars for a pound of basil so she would need to add an extra charge if I wanted some. She then told me to search for the basil in my dish. After seriously "searching" I found TWO very small wilted pieces of.... spinach... she insisted it was basil. Yes, they are both green but one has flavor, the other not so much. This left me speechless. I now have a creepy waiter and angry cook poking around my meal, in search of the elusive basil. Yuck, please get your hands and face out of my meal. And, is it normal to search for an ingredient, how about the fact that I can't taste it? Please don't even mention you may need water, that's just an extra item that said waiter would have to actually bring to the table and gosh knows what additional charge would be included. I did not say another word. We paid the bill, left a marginal tip and will never, ever return. Just, the worst. read more

Although the pad thai is pretty solid, other dishes (and the service) seem to run hot and cold. Even with the pad thai, it's sometimes seemed like I was getting one version on one visit, and a different version on a different visit. 'Consistent' is not a dirty word, restaurant owners. In fact, aiming for 'consistent', if your food is also GOOD, is kind of the idea. Service can be painfully slow, even when there is only one other (smallish) party in the whole place. But all in all, not bad, just slow and not terribly consistent visit to visit. read more

This Thai restaurant tucked in Wyndhurst didn't spark my interest too much. They really should have a spice measuring index especially with serving Thai food because the menu only showed one chili pepper symbol if it was "medium spicy". My drunken noodles had that symbol but I thought they overloaded mine with peppers because it was so spicy I couldn't enjoy it. I know everyone has different taste buds but my dish was also overloaded with meat and I couldn't tell if what I ate was really pork which I originally ordered or if I ate chicken because it tasted like chicken but they insisted it was pork. I've gone on a journey to try drunken noodles at different Thai restaurants and out of all the ones I tried, I don't recommend this one. I'm sure their other dishes are wonderful I just haven't tried them. The pineapple fried rice I really enjoyed but again, overloaded with meat. Their overall meat-to-rice or meat-to-noodles ratio exceeds 2:1 when it should be split evenly in my opinion. But what do I know I'm only an Asian. read more

After hearing some not so great reviews, I was a little hesitant to try this place out. However, the service was great. We were seated right away and served in less than 30 minutes. I ordered the Pad See Maw and it was amazing. Someone commented previously on the spice level. If you don't like spicy at all, order mild. It has chili paste in it so you have to expect some level of spicy regardless. My boyfriend ordered the pad Thai medium spice level as well, and I would say the Spice level was definitely on the milder side. I would without a doubt go back. Food was great. This place continues to put out amazing food. The fried rice dishes are amazing, Tom Yum soup with chicken and Kang Mussaman are some of my favorites and what I had tonight. Wife got Pad Himaparn and it was other worldly good. Everything tastes so fresh every time when most chicken I get at Asian restaurants has that left over chemical taste to it. I'm giving this place three stars for the Pad Kee Mao and the Thai tea only. And the red curry. I guess it is my own fault for not trusting the other Yelpers when they talked about the service here. I experienced it for myself when I arrived with my friend and was immediately told to WAIT A MINUTE before I had even closed the door behind me. I looked over and the restaurant was absolutely empty. Wait for what? I thought. Turns out, wait for new and improved ways to be insulted while you're trying to go out for dinner. She sat us down and then left us. For about 15 minutes we didn't have a drink order...and when she came back and finally took our order it was about 30 minutes before we saw anything at our table. PRO TIP: If you want to eat here, order on the phone. Next, we wanted to split the check. Did not happen in the traditional check splitting away. After some math gymnastics we ended up with weird looking totals we figured out amongst ourselves. ------ I should add the service has improved here after their latest hire; she is very kind and courteous. I gave TY Thai a second chance today for lunch. The first time I dined here was dinner and it was pretty bad and expensive. I wanted to give them another chance, since there aren't many choices in Lynchburg, so decided to try lunch. My cousin and I each got a lunch special at around $12.00 each. She got the peanut chicken. The chicken was from frozen, pre-breaded, and she says tasted like Tyson's. She spent years in food and beverage fields in Las Vegas so she knows fresh from frozen. I had the ginger fish special. The fish tasted like Gordon's with a jarred sauce (very salty) on it. We both had the soup of the day included with our specials along with fried wontons. The soup was warm and flavorless. The wontons were greasy and cabbage dominant. We each had Thai coffee which tasted like it was from a carton. Bottom line, the food is terrible and really expensive ($38.00) for what it is. read more
