This year, my wife and I were blessed with twins. This also means our expenses caring for a little own are multiplied. While facing a financial hardship, our furnace started leaking dangerous levels of carbon monoxide and we needed a replacement. We couldn't afford the cost of a new own and care for our babies equally. With temperatures on the decline, it was imperative that we replaced it as soon as possible. Technician came Oct 2024 to do preventative maintenance on HVAC system. Report stated "Control board and furnace wiring look clean with no signs of wear and tear...at this time no issues are seen and no recommendations to make" Now I'm trying to sell condo and inspector mentions wiring is not to code. I contacted Tyler for a 2nd opinion and based on a photo I forwarded from the inspector, they have stated that rewiring is needed at a cost of $500-$750. In February 2023 I renewed my Tyler annual AC maintenance contract ($186.64) for another year. Yesterday the technician came to perform the maintenance and he discovered the Condensate Trap had developed a crack and it was leaking. Fortunately he had the part in his truck - and he replaced it. (EZT113B Product Code 83114). The amount of time he needed to replace the part was not more than 10 minutes. The cost for replacing the Condensate Trap was $238.07. I received a 10% discount since I was on contract. Therefore, my actual cost to replace the Condensate Trap was $227. 87 After he left my house, I googled the part and found it on SupplyHouse.com for a mere $16.82. That is a difference of $211.05. I contacted them based on their reviews and was pleased to have an appointment the following week. The backstory: I purchased a home during the fall of last year and noticed one room was considerably colder in the office and have a 1 zone system. In the spring, I had the entire house insulated but wanted them to diagnose why there was poor air flow in that room (you could feel it wasn't blowing strong). When I had the home energy audit done, the techs found that the duct was blowing into the wall and suggested I call an HVAC company and have them replace the hard metal duct with the flexible duct like the rest of the system used. When I called Tyler HVAC, I agreed to their diagnostic fee to have a tech come out but, after an hour, the tech had no more suggestions than what I knew already. He had me close some ducts in other areas of the house and said with a 1 zone system, that was the best it could get. I asked him to provide a quote to replace the duct with the flexible duct and he said the office would get back to me. While he was nice, he didn't seem too knowledgeable in my system or in suggestions. When he was finishing up, he said because he didn't install anything, I was told the visit would be $330 for the labor + diagnostic fee. I couldn't believe it. $170 for him to come and the rest for him to open/close some vents? Unreal. As of this writing, I never received an invoice from my initial visit which was supposed to come through email nor has anyone contacted me regarding the quote for the work (it's been 3 weeks). I ended up calling a handyman who replaced the duct work for $58 in materials and his one hour labor charge. Very disappointed with Tyler's services. $330 is just not acceptable, especially when nothing was done. read more

At first, this company was great. They were professional, clear, and very informative about the conversion from oil to gas we are doing in our home. However, when it came time to provide the quote for the conversion, they seemed to not realize the requirements for the town. At first, they were off $500 because of the permits required for the conversion. Not a problem. We hadn't signed the contract yet and the permit fees made sense. After signing the contract and making the 50% deposit on the service, we were informed that $3,400 was going to be added to the quote because the town required a two-day gas test, which would require an extra day of labor. I understand that everyone is human and that mistakes are made sometimes. However, we had already signed the contract and paid the deposit. This mistake should not have been on us to pay. It should have been on the company and they should have taken that loss because of their mistake. In the end, we felt like trust was lost and ended up signing with another company to do the conversion in our home. read more

They delivered the service they said they would in the timeframe they gave us. They took the old way and cleaned everything up well when they were done. The company sent someone to my house that didn't have the knowledge needed to repair my AC I guess he was an apprentice. My wife paid the required charges although it wasn't fixed. When I called them back they made a bunch of excuses why it couldn't be repaired. I then called another company which repaired it within an hour. I then called them back asking for my money back. They refused. I put a stop on the check, $30 fee, at this point it was the principal. The next day they they must have have realized they were wrong.They then offered to refund my money only on the condition that I wouldn't give them a bad review. To little to late. Wonderful experience from the very beginning. They, Cinda and Don, answered my numerous emails quickly and explained the process very well. Don helped us choose a system that made sense even after I decided to switch from a one zone to two zone system. They dealt efficiently with rebates from the Carrier company and did almost all of the paperwork for the utility rebate application and kept us informed all along the way. Don also explained the merits of a heat pump system which was new to me. Their estimates and communications were very thorough. The actual installation went very well. Chris and Ryan were very diligent and pleasant technicians. Don showed up almost every day to see how things were going. The installation involved a lot of work , replacing a large part of our very old central a/c and was accomplished within the 5 days that I was told it would take. They cleaned our place nicely after each day and explained what they had done whenever I asked, patiently and with a smile. They worked very assiduously every day, always showed up on time. Don spend a lot of time on the last day explaining how to use the new system which involved helping us set up remote phone access as well as showing us how to use the touch screen controls in the house and more. Back at the office, Cinda was super helpful and prompt whenever I contacted her for questions re applications, rebates, town permits etc. I was referred to them by a friend who used them and recommended them. I had a great experience with Tyler Air. My furnace died on a Thursday, the owner himself came out and provided me with a quote same day with several options, all reasonably price compared to other quotes I had received. They were even able to install on Saturday so I was only without heat for two nights, for which they offered to supply space heaters! I was very impressed by how quickly they were able to get this done, and they were all very professional throughout the entire process. I would recommend them to anyone. read more

UPDATE: The lackey at Tyler who had to respond to this review was all over it a couple hours after it was posted (see company's response). They were waiting for it because they know they messed up. This is the kind of company that argues with its customers on every negative review over multiple sites. Let that sink in before you hire them. Let's see: The bird's nest thing is nonsense. Tyler installed 2" exhaust pipe when the unit called for 3" and the unit kept shutting off. That's why they had to come back and fix it for free. The AOSmith water heater they installed has a 6 year warranty, not 1. Google it if you don't believe me. "She was shaken." LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOL! Shaken by the threat of a bad online review! Ladies and gentlemen, these are the kinds of employees that work for Tyler... Try worrying more about serving your customers instead of what people say about you on the internet and maybe your margins wouldn't be so slim. I never would have chosen Tyler except that they offered to handle the CT energy credit for replacing an old system. This place is bad news and will only provide you with headaches. We had a poor experience going through the estimate process with this contractor. Their people are incompetent and their process is backwards. They sent out their sales guy Tom to assess the installation of a central air system. Tom recommended as part of the project we also replace the oil furnace with a new gas furnace. He gave us a quote for $20k after spending a couple of hours at the house reviewing the space and requirements. We accepted the proposal and proceeded with the application for a Smart-E loan which was approved. Tyler obtained permits for the job and we were just waiting for the utility to bring the gas line to the house. The next step in the process was to bring out their technician, Donny for the walkthrough prior to starting the work. Donny came over with Tom, spent 30-40 min tops at the house and two hours later came back to us with a revised proposal for $42K on the low end and $50k on the high end after rebates. Needless to say, we won't be moving forward with this contractor and also don't recommend them for big jobs like this, unless you like their bait and switch approach to doing business. We would suggest to Tyler HVAC that they revise their process in the future and get the technician involved in the quoting process prior to submitting any proposals to their prospective clients, so they don't waste anyone's precious time with bogus quotes. read more

Sadly I had a VERY negative experience with them. Last year they replaced my old furnace (later I found out at an unfairly high price), I had oil leak issues and they had to come twice after the initial installation to fix it, after me calling them a number of times. Recently, I asked them to quote for a whole house humidifier and a very nice technician (Donny) came and gave me verbal pricing info (1,200-1,800 for the steam humidified), 1,500 for day labor that included blocking off some vents partially, and maybe 3-4 hours for a contract electrician (400-500ish). I was happy and Donny said Tom will follow up with a quote. He did and he sent me a dishonest quote for 6,567 and insisted that this is what Donny agrees to as well. They quoted me an Aprilaire 800 humidifier and he insisted the cost was 4,422 for just that (notice the two 4s and 2s that's just a common thing to have for a made up price). The unit is $685 on Amazon, and takes about 4 hours total to install after I talk to an honest technician. I called Tom and he ended up saying that it's a small job and they have to price higher, it's not worth it to them. A Very dishonest approach, bad customer service. The owners of Tyler Heating should pay attention, they might be able to rip off a few well-off residents of Fairfield County, but long-term honest and transparent business always wins. I'm absolutely happy to pay for good service, but this is ridiculous. They just lost a customer. First let me start by saying the person that came to assess the location have little to no knowledge of how to do the job let alone what it would cost to complete it. On Friday morning July 31st, I woke up to a leaking hot water tank in my basement. I immediately called Tyler Heating & AC. Their repair supervisor Don happened to be about a mile away from my house at another job and broke away from that for a few minutes to come to my house to check the issue. Within 3 minutes he was on the phone with his office and ordered a new tank for me and set up an installation for Saturday morning August 1st. Two techs, Jonathan and Patrick, arrived at my house (smiling and in a happy mood I might add) Saturday at 7:30 AM with the new tank. The old tank was removed and the new one installed in an hour. They even installed a 1/4 turn shutoff valve in case there were any future issues then the tank could be isolated from the heating system. I am thrilled with the work that Tyler Heating & AC performed. And I am a very fussy homeowner!! I'd like to again thank Don, Jonathan and Patrick for a job well done and of course Cinda for escalating our job. read more

Our AC was working sporadically. It was a difficult problem to diagnose, since it was usually working when they were here. We had 3 different people come out for 6 visits, paid over $1000 and the problem never got resolved. They did replace a capacitor and thought it had fixed it. After they did service, another issue presented itself (fan on unit stayed on unless we shut off the circuit breaker). They recommended replacing the entire unit (approx $7000) and starting over since they couldn't figure out how to fix it. We hired another company for a second opinion. They showed us that the capacitor Tyler installed was a universal capacitor rather than one that fit our unit. It was placed on top of the board rather than in the capacitor slot, which caused the board to short circuit (metal on metal). We also got a quote for oil to gas conversion that was 20% more than our other quote. read more

Awesome company! Just had my AC and Heat Pump unit installed today, so far I am VERY happy with Tyler Heating. Everyone from quote to install were very professional and knew exactly what they were doing. I even got a hang written "Thank You" note in the mail which was very nice. I enjoyed supporting the family owned business. During the quoting process I got an absolute breakdown and pricing of what was being installed. I loved the transparency which was the order winner for me. Tom was awesome and understanding of my busy work schedule. I recently had to replace my central air conditioning unit. I contacted 4 companies and received quotes from all of them. My first good impression of this company was when I met James H. who came to my house as their sales rep. He was absolutely professional. He worked with me on several occasions to make sure the quote was clear and well explained. They were not the lowest quote BUT they were certainly in the ballpark and I realized they were giving me greater value than the other companies that were all taking short cuts...reusing of old parts!! etc... The first group of installers (Vinnie and Brendan) worked nonstop in a great team effort. I have had a lot of people do work in my house before, and these guys were an absolute pleasure to have working here the entire day. The second group of installers (Vinnie again and Justin) were just a continuation of the first good experience. I plan to continue with Tyler for maintenance. The grade I give this company is an A+. I am in the process of replacing my central AC and this company was one of the 6th contractors we are considering. On March 18, 2022, i contacted their sales person Tom who gave me the updated pricing with consideration and due to inflation. He also mentioned that prices will go up again by april 7. in my efforts to ensure that my investements will be in good hands (HVAC contractor), I went down to some last and final inquiries to arrive on a decision and it was at this point (Mar 22) that Don (sales manager) answered my queries but stated that there were some miscalculated pricing given by the sales person (tom), and a higher price was presented. I tried my best to understand the situation and the inflation we are experiencing, but the thing that marked a red flag on me is when on march 27, when i was about to finalize choosing their company, the sales manager sent me another email saying that, anyone who did not signed up before March 25, will be affected by yet another price increase. (take note that they have been telling me the april 7 deadline) which is similar to other competitors that quoted me. I cant believe 3 price changes in 5-6 days. The only reason Im giving them 2 stars and not 1 star is because of their timely responses to my emails, but the price inconsistencies and the reasoning behind really raised RED FLAGs for me, specially since I have other quotes that is similar to the specs and brand we are considering, which was way less than what Tyler quoted last. The repairman took the time to explain the problem and provided an in-depth recommendation on our current system. Since our home is almost 20 years old, we knew we would have to replace both our A/C and furnace. Tyler took the time to discuss our best options. We were surprised on response time from the office, and how quickly the installation took. Every winter for years we would have an issue with our furnace, and the local business we used would just do a quick fix. In May of 2014 called them to have them repair my Hvac unit. They came out to the house diagnosed the issue, and told me the system had a freon leak. They charged $600 to repair the leak and fill the system with freon. Next year when I turned on the air conditioning it was not working again, i was still within their 1 year warranty. I called Tyler, They came out to the house and the technician told me that there is a freon leak and it will be $1,200 to repair, he stated that the previous technician should have performed a leak test to properly determine the source of the leak. I refused to pay and requested that they repair the issue under their one year warranty. They refused to honor the warranty and insisted that I have to pay again. This is company doesn't stand behind their work and they Are extremely overpriced read more

The warranty was issued by "A.O. SMITH, INC. AND ITS SUPPLIERS, (herein collectively referred to as 'Manufacturer')." It said that "Manufacturer will furnish a new water heater." Tyler didn't send invoices for the 8/4-5/21 work until I emailed a request on 8/12/21. In additional to the $137.19 trip charge and $1,850.00 heater charge, there was a $0.00 charge for Tsat Elect Wh Upper. In my opinion Tyler viewed this as a profit making opportunity rather than providing service to a customer to whom it had sold a defective heater under warranty. Tyler focuses on my oral agreement to up front pay $1,850.00 and says nothing about its representation that a warranty credit check would follow. Upon receipt of a Tyler check for $783.25 I emailed a request for a statement of all charges and credits but Tyler, pre-complaint to the BBB, failed to provide one. Post-complaint to the BBB, Tyler issues a "revised" invoice which in my opinion is totally pretextual, stating a $783.25 warranty entry, $53.06 charge for repair parts, $150.00 charge for warranty processing/return trip, $800.00 charge for labor- port to port and $63.69 sales tax, all magically adding up to $l,850.00. No rational customer, if Tyler had transparently up front presented him with a $1,066.75 warranty service charge to furnish a new "$783.25" water heater, would ever have agreed to such nonsense. In my opinion, A.O. Smith and Tyler have engaged in highly questionable practices, and are not customer oriented. They have failed to stand behind the product they manufactured and sold. read more

I can't rate this company for actual service since their very helpful, extremely patient service tech Rick made a phone diagnosis and I never needed them to actually make a service call. By asking a series of questions, he was able to determine the issue with my burner not going on was probably a blocked vent pipe. I'd suspected that myself, but my investigation had led to a dead-end. Rick got me back on track and I was able to clear the blockage and restart the furnace. This at the height of the blizzard when I am sure he had dozens of calls to attend to. So, while I can't comment on actual repairs, I can say I'm a fan of their attitude, honesty, and helpfulness. Tyler did an amazing job. I was told my the gas company that my furnace could not be repaired and had to be immediately replaced. I called Tyler and someone came out within 20 minutes to give me an estimate. Their pricing was great and they were extremely honest in helping me decide which unit to get installed. Also, they rescheduled appointments for the following day to be able to accommodate my installation, as we were without heat on a very cold few days! Tyler installed a very expensive boiler for us in 2015. We have 2 zones and part of the smaller zone would be at like 50 when then larger zone was at 60. So they said we needed more baseboards in zone 2. Another several thousand dollars (salesman actually said to me, "we're not making any money on this job." Well, neither was I.) So this winter, we still have to have an electric space heater in zone 2, just to keep it at 60 overnight (and not just on the really cold nights either) otherwise it hovers around 50 in part of that space. Called them in a panic when the water heater burst in my Monroe condo rental and they were wonderful. I never expected such a quick appointment and the tech was prompt, courteous and very considerate of my tenant, replacing the unit within 24 hours. When I had an A/C problem the following year, I called Tyler and received the same fast, efficient service. They work on a tarp and clean up after themselves!
