Had some central air problems. The drain was clogged , I tried to fix it and came out alive , and I thought successful. Had to call Hefferon. They made time for us and fixed the problem. They also did a tune up for us . Don't know if the price was reasonable, because I never had to have this work done. I would guess that the price was fair since they've been in business for so long. This is the 2nd time in 2 years I requested service from Hefferon. They have serviced my AC in the past and did a good job. My recent issue was heat air distribution. When I requested service they informed me they are not taking new customers on only customers with contracts. I asked about a contract and was informed they are not offering them at this time due to service tech shortage. So why do the continue to advertise if they can not offer any service? I did give them 2 stars as the customer service person, Dina, was very responsive and nice. Other than that go find someone else. No help at all. read more

Called to have my unit looked at (nothing urgent) was told they wouldn't help me if I didn't have a service contract. So emergency or not there was nothing they could do. Surprisingly since if you read their website it appears they can do it all. I was trying to possibly give business to someone literally around the corner. Awful customer experience , maybe think about your approach or offer people who need help with their units more of a response then we are too busy to ever fit you in... completely disappointed. I discovered Hefferon in 2020 after a bad experience with another company in the area. Not only did they do a superb job on a new HVAC system for our main floor, but they installed a garage heater and a new water heater as well over the course of the last year. They have a great reminder system that calls/emails/texts ahead of a tech coming to my house, are always professional and courteous - and I never feel taken advantage of. After we took over one of the business in Newtown CT, we had an issue with the heating unit in the dinning area, it was not throwing proper heat and my guys who were working on the site were not very happy so we were looking for best rated company in the area and luckily found the best one. We own businesses in 9 locations in NY and we are opening 2 new locations in CT including this one in Newtown, that being said we worked with so many guys in the past and know very much about the service and price. After we called the Hefferon Heating and Cooling, the office manager Kristina who managed to schedule the technician ( Mark and his associate ) on timely manner. They came exactly on scheduled time, and inspected the unit and He found the problem right way and fixed on the spot plus suggested the replacement of one part. He even inspected other units, changed belts, filters and suggested to replace some other small issues. They are Very honest, humble ,reasonable, professional and most beautiful thing is that Kristina who is the manager knows very well how to handle and take care of their customers. Mark the technician is super experience and he cares a lot about customers, .thats what I liked a lot about this company. I live in an old (1930s) house that was unbearable in the summer. For years we cursed the heat as we spent the majority of the hot days in the bedrooms, the only rooms we could easily use window AC units in. Since we already had forced heat and installed ductwork, we thought getting central air installed would be a relatively simple task. Over the course of a few years, we had numerous contractors in to give us their thoughts. We had several tell us it was flat out impossible to do central air throughout the entire house -- we could do the downstairs, but we'd still need window units in the bedrooms and the other rooms upstairs would still serve as saunas. No go. The only contractor who thought it was a possibility told us we would require major renovations to get it done and two completely separate AC units for the two floors -- easily doubling or tripling the budget we had for the project. No go. After reading some of the reviews here, we called Ernie at Hefferon on a whim. We weren't very optimistic when he showed up, but after an initial consult we had a glimmer of hope that this could actually get done. Ernie knows his stuff inside and out and he laid out a plan that worked with our budget and promised full-house AC. We were skeptical, but we decided to place our faith in Hefferon and hired them to do the work this Spring. We just had the project completed, and we couldn't be happier. Ernie and his crew pulled off his plan exactly as promised. They replaced some existing ductwork, installed new returns and grates, installed a new furnace with humidifier and filtration units, and installed the AC/heat pump unit. Not only do we now have full-house AC (with separate zones for the upstairs and downstairs), but our heat is much better also. Our master bedroom, which was barely getting any heat due to the poor original ductwork, is now getting a proper amount of air. We LOVE the new system. Everything is state of the art Trane equipment, light years ahead of what we inherited when we purchased the home. Ernie and his crew (Andrew, Andrew, Ben, and Mark) were all very friendly, very knowledgeable, and some of the hardest workers I've ever had in this house. They fit our project into their busy season and were extremely respectful of our busy schedules and our property. They took a lot of time answering our many questions and taught us everything we needed to know about using the new equipment. We were actually sad to see them leave. I've had a lot of mixed experiences with contractors, so it is a pleasure to be able to give a five star review to a company that honestly earned one. If you need anything done with your home's heating or cooling, give these guys a call -- even if you've been told what you want to do is impossible. It worked for us. read more

They used to be good, but they're so understaffed now that they can't meet the demand of their loyal customer base without a signed annual agreement (read: an annual charge whether you want them that year or not). A couple years ago, they solicited the annual agreement to me after I had called upon them on my own initiative for a couple years. I asked them if I can just call when I want service instead of a contract and I was told that was okay. On March 23 of this year, I called to schedule an annual spring maintenance appointment and they gave me an appointment for late June, saying that they are short on technicians so that was the earliest they could do. Not ideal, especially with a baby on the way, and because it does get hot around that time of year but I accepted it since that's what they had available. Fast forward some months to the date of my appointment and, wondering why they hadn't arrived, I gave them a call. The receptionist Dina was nice. More companies should have employees like her. She tried to look up my appointment only to see that I never had one scheduled. I know I scheduled one because I have the call record in my phone saying I called and put it in my calendar. I was told at this point the owner won't allow any more maintenance appointments to be scheduled because they're not doing maintenance calls after June 30 (they're overwhelmed). Presumably that means they're using the time to sell and install new systems rather than honor the loyalty of existing customers. Sounds to me like the company will install systems but not service them at this point because they don't have the staff to do both. If I were a new customer in the market, I wouldn't do business with a company that: a) doesn't keep its appointments; b) is so sloppy in recordkeeping that it doesn't reliably make note of appointments; c) tells its customers they don't have to have a maintenance contract at one time but then use the lack of one to justify not taking on a maintenance call; and d) will be willing to sell and install a new system but good luck if you need any work done on it. It also got me thinking: what if I had done the annual contract thing for a few years instead and then at some point called to cancel it? Would they have neglected to make note of my request to cancel and then say I never called to do so as they show up and charge $300 for work I didn't want? This error (I'll call it that since the alternative would be downright slimy) could be disastrous if it happened in other contexts. Hefferon is a classic example of a business that has not grown with the demand of its customer base. I could understand if they were not taking on new customers, but to shun loyal repeat customers is bad business. I'm sure they lost techs with free pandemic and getting hires is tough these days, but then they should be focusing on the people who got them where they are. It's no better than the phone and cable companies that will give deep discounts to new customers only but existing customers can go pound sand. Sure, it might make them more money to do that, but it'll leave a trail of dissatisfied customers. In summary, Hefferon used to be a good company to whom I would regularly look for A/C needs, but they're no longer reliable for those who need simple maintenance jobs, and judging by their lack of tech staff, even with the big jobs you probably won't see a worker for months down the line. read more

They've replaced both my A/C and my furnace, handle the annual maintenance, and quickly responded to my emergency calls when my 24 yr old furnace decided it was time to stop working. So very disappointed in this business. Called on New Year's eve for a no heat call the soonest they said they could come out was Tuesday the following week. When they arrived a few mins late the technician got right to work and had the heat fixed in under a min. Doesn't seem like a bad thing.....except their b ad says no cost estimate...it was a loose wire...no parts used. I was charged $175.48 for the call. I told the technician (who was very pleasant and professional) that I was reporting the business for false advertising. The owner/manager called me back to say yes some people are confused by that ad we're charging you. I told him that was dishonorable....he didn't seem to care how I felt or do anything to take money off the price. read more

Our furnace stopped working on a cold morning, and Hefferon dispatched a technician, Andrew, who was at our house within just a few hours. He was courteous, professional, and located the source of the problem within twenty minutes. He installed a new part and had the system up and running again shortly after that. He took the time to explain the problem, and suggested future maintenance to prevent it from happening again. We were impressed, and will definitely call Hefferon again if we have any further issues. I interviewed numerous contractors for replacing our heating and A/C systems. My criteria was technical competence, trustworthiness (would he do what he said he'd do), competitive pricing, and ease in dealing with them without pressure. Ernie won out, hands down. He explained how the furnace and A/C system he had spec'd out for us would improve our comfort, summer and winter - and he was totally correct. The difference we found in the air was really amazing, almost immediately. I could not be happier with the installation, particularly since I had to throw him a change in installation dates from what we had originally agreed on. I had said that I wanted to do it in the Fall but for our family reasons had to tell Ernie that I needed it done before the 4th of July - without a hesitation he reorganized his jobs and made it happen 2 days before! Rather than trying to describe how positive the experience was I'll just quote verbatim what I wrote to him after the installation: "Everything when super! Very seamless with no wasted motion - just what I like. You've really trained your men well, both technically and in the professional way they conduct themselves. Not only are we pleased with the installation but with the furnace and the A/C themselves. You were spot on about how quiet the A/C is when operating and there was a very real difference in the quality of the air itself. We just had our furnace and A/C unit replaced by Hefferon. Ernie quoted us a great price and was very competitive vs 2 other quotes. As luck would have it, the job started right after Independence Day holiday which was really hot in the 90's and was miserable without air conditioning. On the first day, supplies for the job were delivered, and his guys, Andrew and Max, started later that afternoon. In about an hour and a half, they got the outside unit removed, carried the new furnace into the cellar with Ernie, and disconnected the old. Before they left, they made sure that we had hot water. The next day, there were 4 guys working. They installed the outside unit, pulled out the old furnace and put the new one in. Just about lunch time, Andrew flipped a switch and they all went outside to eat their lunch. What was the switch you ask? It was air conditioning! Isn't that amazing! New working A/C in less than 24 hours! What amazing guys! They were really nice guys, neat, and polite. They worked really hard and knew what they were doing and took pride in their work. I decided to replace my central AC and furnance. Got several estimates, Hefferon was not the cheapest, but based on the thoroughness of the evaluation of my present system as well as the options Ernie (the owner) presented to me I decided to go with Hefferon. It is clear that Hefferon does not engage in upselling, in fact it was me who chose to replace certain well functioning, but somewhat dated, components. Installation was on schedule. During installation it was discovered that a zone panel would need to be replaced due to compatibility issues. This was accomplished at no additional charge to me despite not being in the estimate. An unexpected expense that could have been but was not passed on to the customer. Installers were courteous and left the area immaculate. A month later heating season arrives and I discover a minor issue with the heat (warm air going into a zone not calling for heat). The owner promptly came out and quickly addressed the issue. No charge. A good tool to evaluate any business is how they behave after the work is complete and the bill has been paid.
