I was looking for a company that could provide yearly maintenance service for my HVAC system and saw their vehicle across the street from my home. I called and requested info and scheduled an appointment for maintenance. Time of arrival was between 8-10 a.m. At 10:20 I called the office, someone was supposed to call me and reschedule because the tech was tied up. If I had not called, I would be waiting all day for someone to show up. The Tech had my number and so did the office staff but somehow, they failed to contact me and state that no one would make my appointment time. Very poor follow up and customer service ! read more

To start off... Modern Heating was ON TIME EVERYTIME and QUICK in giving us answers to any questions that we had, especially after the big job was completed. Moving from NYC into an old beautiful home in Bridgeport Connecticut, we were exceptionally pleased by our new boiler and installation by Matt and his crew. Besides being VERY reasonably priced the Peerless Boiler and the plumbing that delivers the steam and water to and from is purely a work of symmetrical beauty and art... see my attached photos... To me seeing the clean completed job... the perfectly placed pipes and copper piping, welds, switches, wires, sodering et al... shows me their PRIDE in their WORKMANSHIP... craftsmen came to our home and delivered to us a new boiler and a happy experience! Nothing but headaches from this company. Every time they show up they find something wrong during regular maintenance. I've spent over 2k for this company in winter and summer last year because of deceptive practices. At one point they claimed my AC leaked some type of gas, yet it was their own guy who left a tool in the valve. They constantly show up and find ridiculous things wrong. I even called them out for it, which they gave me a free year of maintenance. Then today I just got a bill for 400$ because the free plan turned into a renewal! Can you believe that? Hahaha how is this place still in business? Scam artists. AVOID AVOID AVOID. I tried to like them but they are scammers and should go out of business. I hope the owner Matt goes under. read more

Modern heating and cooling replaced our entire heating and airconditioning system. They diagnosed the problem we had with ductwork, replaced it and we now have a perfectly balanced system. All the workmen work polite, pleasant, answered our many questions. They were neat and tidy and cleaned up during and after the job. I highly reccommend them! I'm so glad to have found Modern Heating and AC...after working with another company on my Fujitsu ductless system, these guys are night and day. I had the misfortune of several AC related issues this year. Modern has been out 5 times this year, after not having a single issue with my Fujitsu system in almost 6 years. The first issue was a simple three way valve being stuck. A couple light whacks of the wrench and disconnecting the valve connector to the main board, we were back up and running! Simple diagnostics charge covered it. $149 including tax. Next, Tom was out to help determine why our system was showing the communication issue to the outdoor unit. After a couple hours of diagnostics, it was determined the main board, four expansion valves and the fan motor all needed replacing. It's Fujitsu protocol to replace these parts all together, despite the fact that just the fan motor failed. And knowing the past history with the other company doing unnecessary work and charging me for it, they offered to warranty the valves to try to help offset the expense. Unnecessary but much appreciated. Repairs were made about a week later due to parts shipping in from California. $2000 including tax. Finally (hopefully), Jason came out to investigate why one of four split units was giving me an error code about an internal blower error. After diagnostics with Fujitsu, the blower and board on this indoor unit needed replacement. They quoted for 4 hours of labor plus parts because Jason was concerned he'd need to take the wall unit off the wall to perform repairs and this would increase labor time dramatically. When Jason arrived, he said he'd try to perform repairs without taking it down, but ultimately did not want to sacrifice the quality of the work for speed. Ultimately he was able to perform the repair successfully in half the quoted time! Initial quote was for $1330, total for the work came to $918 including tax. These guys are really great, they're human, not machines and really do care about quality and satisfaction. It definitely pays to have a team who knows the Fujitsu system working on it instead of some joker who's pretending. And Ian is definitely not the monster someone else on here made him out to be. He's also been super helpful through all of these issues and communicated very clearly with me. read more

I have only great things to say about Modern Heating and AC. We had a house with four central air units that ALL stopped working in the heart of summer (our house reached 95 degrees inside) ...and they fit us right in to replace the units. (and they did so not only with the best scheduling but for the best rate.) Then, this winter when our heat stopped working during a snowstorm, they sent a technician within two hours who repaired the sensor. (It's important to note that their staff wears N95 masks and has regular COVID testing which brought peace of mind.) read more

We called Modern Air Conditioning to repair our compressor which wasn't working. I can't say nice enough things about the tech that came out to make the repair - very professional, courteous and thorough. Unfortunately, however, when we reviewed the invoice after the repair was complete we noticed that one of the components, which is an $85 component at an electrical supply house was charged to us at close to $400, an almost 450% markup. I called the company to make it right and they didn't. I understand companies charge a markup in the normal course but this seems very excessive. From the quoting process through installation I found Matt and his team (especially Ann in finance) to be very knowledgeable, professional and timely. The technician who came to the house was excellent. He was on time, polite, found the problem with the indoor blower almost immediately, and fixed it without fuss. My problem is the same as Rino N. The service charge was $149. They also charged $304 for the capacitor (Turbo 200), which you could buy on Amazon for $60, or on eBay for $54. The manager gave me the same explanation as they posted on line to Rino N.'s complaint, that the $304 included the labor to install the capacitor. But the technician spent less than 15 minutes to install the capacitor, and I also paid $149 service charge, so the total charge billed as $482.75. The manager said the $149 was the dispatch charge, which they bill the customer regardless of the trouble found. Now here's the thing. The A/C failed at the same time as the garage door opener during an electrical storm. The garage door opener required replacement of the entire motherboard, and the installation was more complex than the installation of the A/C capacitor. The garage door company charged me a total of $250 for everything, including the initial visit to find out what the problem was, for the parts (motherboard) that they had to order, and the installation on the subsequent visit. I think Modern Heating and A/C charged me about $200 more than it should have. I gave them two stars instead of one, because the work was done well and quickly. If you are not concerned with price, Modern Heating and A/C is the place to call. If you want a competitive price, you might try elsewhere. read more

We recently converted from gas to electric and we had a tremendous experience. Matt and his crew were thorough, professional and very efficient. They worked with us to ensure the system was the right fit for our home. They handled the state rebate paperwork and the installation of the furnace. The hot water heater comes with a service agreement for a period of time. After that time, they offer an annual service agreement to ensure the system is running properly. read more

This scam outfit is managed by a vicious dude named Ian (who says he can magically determine whether I need a furnace with only cell phone pics) whom I unfortunately called a week or so ago about my central AC. A Modern child/tech named Jason 'serviced' it annually this spring. First summer heat wave-no AC! So I called Ian & he sent the same boy tech out who couldn't figure out the problem. He sent photos to Ian. Right in front of me I heard both Ian & Jason on the phone conniving a story that I needed a new central ac unit, a new furnace and all new ductwork throughout my house--all based on pics in the dark from Jason's cell. (Tonight Ian claimed he has the POWER to decide people need a new furnace just by seeing cell phone pics of their surface) After he hung up with Ian, I asked Jason for a ballpark figure. $8000 sounded good to him! A genuine competitor sent a REAL tech over who replaced the furnace/blower filter(ALL I needed) for $125-----$7875 less than Modern's attempted theft. My central air's like new, now! I'm severely disabled & when I called Ian to complain about their estimate today he hollered, screamed and severely abused me. Tomorrow I'll be reporting them to the state Attorney General's division of consumer affairs, the state's HVAC licensing board, + filing suit. Milford police involvement will be addressed as well because of the obvious scam, their elder abuse + Ian's vulgar conversation, his abuse & threats at me personally. I'm very ill, including a recent heart attack + the violent verbal assaults Ian tossed casually at me could kill me. Don't even consider these immoral & potentially felonious scammers! read more

Technician could not solve the problem and wanted to charge more money just to diagnose the problem without ever fixing it. Called in another company who found the issue immediately and fixed it correctly. Stay away from this so called air conditing repair service. read more

We had a problem with our central air over the summer. Of course, it was during the heat wave. We got a few names from friends. We heard nothing but great things about Modern. We called, and Booker, the tech, was here pretty quickly. He was such a great guy, professional and courteous. He checked it out, told us a couple of things it could be. We told him go ahead and do whatever needed to be done. He didn't have a part he needed, but said he would be back shortly. We thought, oh boy, we won't be seeing him for a while. He was back quickly, with the part, and fixed the unit. The service was excellent, price was very reasonable. We love to support local small businesses.
