They motivate you and the class is so much fun. Bumping music, moves and sweat! It's a mixture of everything and best believe, you leave your class huffing and puffing, feeling great. My 5 yo daughter is in their tiger class twice a week. At first, I was expecting the class to be all physical but to my surprise, they teach amazing life lessons like building confidence, self discipline, hard work, control, and respect. This made me commit. We've also taken this class with multiple instructors and every one of them are so kind and amazing. They are so great with kids and I love them all so much! My girl enjoys this class and it's nice parents can sit in the class to watch. Towards the end, they have you interact with your child in helping them develop their skills which is a nice way to bond. I think of all the places in Davis, this place is probably the best in terms of quality for adults and children. They also offer camps which I've heard great things about.

A Positive and Supportive Experience with Sensei Rick!…read more In January 2024, I discovered Sensei Rick's dojo through our school's list of approved physical education providers, and I knew it would be a great opportunity for my son. At 10 years old, my son has truly benefitted from the structured environment that promotes focus, respect, and personal growth. Sensei Rick's teaching has provided a positive space for my son to build his skills. Sensei Rick is excellent at connecting with children, offering individualized attention to ensure every student feels supported and valued. He goes above and beyond by offering thoughtful touches, such as water breaks and helping students with tasks like tying their belts. His ability to remember each child's name and engage with them individually shows his genuine care and commitment. One of the things that sets Sensei Rick apart is how he spotlights his students. For example, the children once sang "Happy Birthday" to a fellow student, creating a positive, community-oriented environment. There's also a wall of achievement where Sensei Rick recognizes students for their accomplishments, whether it's awards, certificates, or milestones. It's so nice to see my son's name proudly displayed on the wall next to his Best Friend's President's Award for Educational Excellence--something that truly brings a sense of pride. Sensei Rick brings students to the front of the class to congratulate them, which fosters a sense of pride and accomplishment. The dojo is well-maintained, clean, and has ample parking, with comfortable seating for families to observe. The children have developed strong, supportive friendships, and the positive, respectful environment at the dojo has had a wonderful impact on my son. It's a place where kids can thrive and feel encouraged. I'm incredibly grateful for this opportunity and proud to have found this dojo through the resources provided by our school. We value this dojo so much that we've been paying out of pocket for the summer sessions. Despite the 30-minute drive one way, my son looks forward to every class, and I can see the positive impact it's had on his focus and determination. The life lessons Sensei Rick shares at the start of each session have been beneficial for my son's overall growth. Thanks to Sensei Rick's dedication, my son has ninja-like reflexes and enjoys practicing karate at home. He is committed to earning his black belt, and I'm excited to see his continued progress. The staff is incredibly supportive, and I'm so happy with the positive influence this dojo has had on my son and daughter. I'm grateful for the role Sensei Rick has played in my children's development and will continue to provide opportunities for them to succeed. Thank you, Sensei Rick, for all that you do to support my children and all your students.

Dan Zan Ryu jujistu is a traditional martial arts style with rigorous training, but the competitions are not really sparring, but rather more like demonstrations so I, as an adult that is getting older, still feel able to and enjoy participating in them. Like many of our parents, i joined after seeing my kids thrive in the classes and having them bug me long enough that I thought I would try it out for a bit. I have now been training for 3 years and have no plan to stop. Although they are not currently offering kids' classes, there are classes for teens and adults 3 times a week that run throughout the year. All ages and levels train together and each class is tailored to the instructional needs of those present. Highly recommend!

There are no contracts associated with attending class and the monthly dues are extremely reasonable for the high quality instruction that is given. The adult classes are focused on learning basic rolling and falling technique, then progresses to learning joint manipulation, escapes, and throwing techniques. If you want to learn a little bit of everything in a traditional martial arts setting, this is a wonderful place to do it at.

Mr. Rodness has a teaching style that really connects with kids. He manages to balance discipline and encouragement in a way that keeps students motivated. What we appreciate most is that it is not just a martial arts school. The classes consistently reinforced focus, perseverance, accountability, and respect. Those lessons have carried over into school and every day life for our son. If you're looking for a place that develops confidence and character in addition to excellent martial arts skills, this is a fantastic environment. She not only loves the classes, her skills improve with every thoughtfully-planned lesson and we feel that she is becoming both stronger and more confident over time. Steve Rodness obviously has an extensive knowledge of martial arts and is skilled at connecting with children, welcoming each student warmly while also being firm enough to control a large class. Our younger daughter will join his classes soon as well. Specific class details can be found in other reviews, so I wanted to mention that my husband and I put a lot of thought into selecting a dojo/dojang here in Davis. While we both have experience in different Japanese martial art styles, we were specifically looking for martial arts taught with a connection to culture and character development along with a friendly and supportive community. In addition to physical techniques, Steve Rodness at RMAC emphasizes guiding principles that are essential not only for martial arts as self-defense and a physical art form, but for living life as a strong and dedicated human being. We're lucky to have found such a positive place for our family.
