Absolutely horrible. I had just rented a U-Haul truck a few days before this review and never had any problems getting it rented. My situation was I don't have any physical debit or credit card on me. Everything I do is tap or cash. And was just fine using the U-Haul to get things moving. The worker today denied me a rental because I didn't have a physical card on hand even though I could access credit card number in front of him AND provided him my driver license. whoever this man with the glasses on's name is, wasn't helpful at all. The Hillsboro location has poor service but the truck itself was good. The time I spent jumping from one register to another, running my debit card 4 times and charging it twice, asking me to verify truck condition and gas level and then sign and no one was there to verify or even collect a signed contract so I walked out. They wouldn't check me in when I returned so I didn't get a receipt and was very enjoyable to take a stern phone asking why I hadn't returned their truck...really? Told them if they didn't charge me for the 12 miles I put on the truck I wouldn't give them a negative review. I guess they felt that the $38 was worth the review I'm giving. read more

I set up a reservation for a pick up and motorcycle trailer was quoted Aprox $200 for round trip 1 day aprox 100 miles. Confirmed reservation by phone and in person. Arrived to pick up truck and trailer and the price was now $658.00. Asked them to double check and price was still the same. Immediately cancelled order. Set new reservation with Uhaul in Portland, $202.00 . Worst customer service I have had. They are gouging customers . Do not do business with them read more

If I could give this location and staff zero stars I absolutely would. Do not waste your time booking here they are not only unreliable but also rude. Booked a trailer at this location weeks prior, confirmed that booking. Arrived and it took them 20 minutes to let me know they don't have the trailer I booked and I need to call corporate. We ended up having to travel over 45 minutes to find another trailer at another location, with no help from the staff at this location. What kind of customer service is that? They couldn't care less that they completely left a customer hanging and weren't willing to help correct the issue they created. The absolute worst experience I have ever had with U-Haul . I scheduled an 8AM hitch installation. I arrived at 8am and got in line to notify them that i had arrived. I proceeded to wait 40 minutes for the 3 employees to process the 4 people in front of me. Once it was finally my turn I was told that I should not have been able to schedule an appointment and that they would not be servicing me today. The employees were slow, inconsiderate of the line, would talk amongst themselves and sloppy. 10/10 would not recommend. read more

We booked our move from Hillsboro, OR to San Antonio, TX late last year. Snow was imminent in Hillsboro and I made sure I asked the first company I booked with if that was going to be a problem. They said no but cancelled a couple days before our move. We did not know what to do. This uhaul location literally came to the rescue. If you like your reservations to be lost, employees who are condescending and an an absolute lack of accountability then this is the place for you! If you make an appointment in person you will also be told when you show up for your appointment time that unless you got a call or an email, you do not actually have an appointment. They will then tell you can wait around for the technician but will not tell you when they arrive and instead make passive aggressive comments about how their customer need them more than they need customers and will throw out anyone who is not in agreement with that. I took it as a horrible customer service policy ( because we had been incredibly patient at that point) but my husband took it as it was intended so we left. Will never be back and so disappointed in their behavior....but if you are in to that sort of emotional masochism then this could be the place for you. read more

U-haul as a company, not just this location has no concept of what the word "reservation" means. I reserved a box truck. When I arrived they offered me a cargo van. Completely screwed me. The staff at the store were nice and understanding. The agent at the Portland dispatch was a complete jerk. She acted like the mix up was all my fault. She said I reserved the truck from 8:30pm til 3am! Why would anyone ever do that? Then 15 minutes after getting off the phone with her I got a text message from u-haul confirming my reservation at 8:30am. They overbook and then pick and choose who gets screwed. Used them twice now. No complaints... they clearly explain how the tank of their u-hauls is (i.e. not to fill up the tank at the pump and fill up the number of miles driven). On the second reservation, I tried to pick another uhaul that was closer to where I was moving. I wanted u-haul for 24-hour rental. This other uhaul company (Cornelius Pass Mini Storage) did not mention anything about all their reservations being guaranteed for 6 hours and beyond that, they don't guarantee (as it depends on demand). Only when I called and wanted to confirm another thing, they mention about this. Coming to this uhaul... If we explicitly make the reservation for 24 hours, they honor that. Friendly service (i think i forgot one furniture pads, they said that it's fine). They have tons of supplies for moving, etc. And fast service. read more

Ever rent a U-Haul? Did you take the insurance? I picked up and used a trailer move somethings, I decided to opt in on the insurance. Everything was great till it wasn't... see I was taking the trailer back to U-Haul and it came free slamming into my truck doing a lot of damage and slicing my tire open. But wait I had insurance so it will be okay, not so much it's been over a week almost two and they will not engage to help me get the damage fixed. When I rented the truck they were very very nice, I bought the insurance for only up to a certain height on the truck. I was in a huge hurry and accepted the pics of it after I had gotten home. We literally drove it out to gales creek and back to hillsboro, didn't do anything to it. They called this morning and told me there was new damage. If I had done something to it, I would own up to it. They are SCAMMERS. How convenient I got insurance for only up to a certain height, but the damage happened just above that area. I went to rent a trailer yesterday. I went here because their close to home and they have the best prices. Unfortunately it didn't work out because of my car; I have connection issues for my blinkers to work on the trailer. I have no knowledge of trailers and hitches so I brought my partner. Well he got stuck on trying to figure it out too. They were very helpful. I litterly mean that about 3 workers stopped what they were doing to help out. They went above and beyond being helpful trying to make it work and providing genuine customer service. At the end even though I didn't leave with the trailer due to my car. However my partner and I unanimously agree that we will absolutely be back for our future needs. You can buy a product anywhere but customer service has been rare to find. I've had years of positive experiences with the staff at this location. Unfortunately there is management and a marketing VP, Shannon, who have no concern for the community they assume to serve. I've watched this location change management 5-6 times now, and each time save one was because this woman's marketing strategy or her overall scandalous dealings and anger issues as well is control issues while helping only those she calls friends, sad and pitiful business dealings. A few things here- 1st, I made the reservation and was not the driver 2nd, the damage occurred in their (U-Haul) property 3rd, specific insurance was purchased to cover incidences of the sort. 4th, the damage occurred due to staffs unwillingness to properly park the vehicles they rent out 5th, refusal to acknowledge the insurance they provide at a cost 6th, communication with their insurance agency stated repairs were to made without further estimates 7th, insurance denies the locations claim (this is a sister company that is owned by U-Haul) 8th, my insurance denies the claim as I purchased insurance and it happens in their property 9th, communications from the GM at the time dictate I have to pay for repairs 10th, repwest (Uhaul's insurance company, sister company) attempts to settle for $1,700 11th, I asked for proof of estimates or stated repairs they've assumed I am responsible for or pictures and proof. I was denied. 12th, the GM was demoted by Shannon and I was immediately blacklisted when the claim was denied. 13th, Repwest assumes a new total for repairs totaling more than $3000 with no proof 14th, Repwest reverses my alert black listing me allowing me to rent again as it is the U-Haul locations responsibility legally. I assume this is why the GM was fired. 15th, Shannon decides to blacklist me again the following week realizing the imaginary costs for repairs. Again no proof of repair let alone justifications for cost. 16th, the assumed cost rises to just below $4000 at this point. Without proof of any kind, nor are they willing to discuss payment options. 17th, Shannon refuses to provide proof or communicate, directs me to her boss Kyle, the NW regional president I believe. 18th, several of my friends or people that have worked for me in the past are notified they are no longer allowed to rent from U-Haul. 19th, all communication is discontinued. Including calls from my number they know, emails, as well as communication with their insurance provider. 20th, during my last communication I was told the money doesn't matter they do not care if I pay or not that I was harassing employees. Employees saying I owe thousands without proof, legality, or justification. As if I wouldn't continue to call to make it right or fix it as this is how I serve my community. The marketing VP for this area Shannon had the decision making authority for this. These are the numbers... their highest assumption of financial responsibility is near $4000 yet during that same month and the month before I brought in $2500 in revenue respectively for each month. That's an assumed loss of at least $1000 over the course of two months and will continue as a loss as I'm not bringing this into one store. Good marketing lady, loosing revenue because you refuse to accept fault. Let's leave the woman out of this for a second and talk about the company here. Having a mutual copiable relationship with a corporate entity that doesn't even care about their own people claim money I bring them isn't worth it must mean something. Let's assume for a moment that an injury had occurred during that accident on their property, no questions would have been asked the claim would have been paid and I would have been asked to stay quite. I've been that through deserving people being fired for questioning their superiors, maternity leaves ending in demotions and people quitting, sexual assault charges/convictions being brushed under the rug about their employees, housing employees in non domiciled buildings, cooperations with traffickers than federal agencies, odometer/ vin tampering, selling storage units after auctions rather than disposal, not to mention insurance fraud. Soooo when it's assumed that Im going shut my mouth when a corporation corrupted and as callous with reputation far less worthy than, or even close to as good as mine, tries to cut ties and blame me, I probably won't stay quite! To close my argument I will say this. U-Haul NW you are so lucky I'm only dropping two names! I'm only doing this because they are readily available on your web page. On the 10th I called to get set up for a hitch installation for the following Wednesday. After realizing I needed faster, I called back not 30 minutes later to reschedule with a rush order knowing I would need to pay more. The person on the phone said it was taken care of and to go in to this uhaul on that Thursday. I show up to find that the order for that day was cancelled and not the one for next Wednesday. The actual manager called around to see if one was nearby since they couldn't get a specific location based on the tracking number they had. He couldn't find one so I had to come back next Wednesday. Monday rolls around and I get a call to let me know the hitch installer quit and I need to go to another store. Three days of calling with no call back, I go in the day before the appointment to see where the hitch is. The fill in manager (really the worst person in the whole interaction) was less than helpful. A friend of mine and I both took time off of work to pick up a camper trailer for Thursday and at that point I needed a truck. I called into corporate and go a hold of the escalation team and told them what was happening. They offered a voucher to cover the cost of the truck rental but it would need to be approved by a manager at the location. The fill in manager who couldn't be bother to call me back all that week called me within 3 minutes to let me know he wouldn't approve the voucher. He then tries to say it's my fault since I only gave them 8 days. The escalation team calls me back to let me know they went over his head to approve the voucher. I cancelled the truck rental and go with another company to pick up my new camper. On my way back with the trailer, I call to see where the hitch is (in theory it still should be on the way), Come to find out the fill in manager cancelled the hitch order and didn't tell anyone. I couldn't believe how childish that was and for a manager to get so in his feelings over him not getting his power trip. I get transferred back to the escalation team and schedule another appointment for the following Tuesday (14 days since the initial call). I go online and order a hitch with 2 day shipping Friday morning and the hitch arrives a day early on Monday. Of course they never found the hitch at uhaul. The fact I can buy things from other stores both online and in person and get products either next day or a couple days later, always with a reliable tracking number shows it's nothing to do with "Covid messing up logistics/ shipping.", but uhual choosing to not pay for proper shipping. I'm not just talking about Amazon, but companies that are considerably smaller that either uhaul or Amazon. The real prince of the story was the fill in manager who, with whatever issues he has to work on, felt it was OK to just cancel an order without telling anyone. Who does that?!?! Very poor communication. Terrible customer service. No respect for customer's time Or property. Do not go to the store on Cornell Rd in Hillsboro For installations. I tried to order parts and schedule online, but it was too confusing. I didn't want to end up with the wrong parts ordered. I went to the store, explained this the the staff, said I wanted the standard size, he ordered what I needed and scheduled my appt for install 3 weeks later. Day of install I scheduled a ride so I could drop off my car, dropped it off and received a phone cal 20 min later asking if I was sure I wanted the 11/4" instead of the standard 2" receiver. 2 stars for catching it before installing it. I had them order the correct size, scheduled another appt 2 weeks later. It was installed this time, but I was not informed the wiring would be inside my hatch, under my storage compartment with the spare tire. I have To close the hatch on the wiring each time I want to use it. Also, there were two scratches on my bumper and some sort of large swirl smudge that wouldn't come off the paint. They denied doing it, denied being near the area! How does one install a receiver hitch under a bumper, wiring inside a hatch without being near a bumper?! They made me stand in the lobby for 45 min while they reviewed the video of the install, Alone! Just to come out, say nothing except they needed to charge me out. read more

Their propane price is usually at least twice the competitors price, and there is nothing on earth that they haven't figured out a way to charge you for. I had scheduled a 1:00 appointment when I got there had to wait half an hour to get help again for the second time just to be told to walk around the corner in the back and talk to the hitch installers then they proceeded to tell me to walk back into the front and to fill out paperwork for the hitch install as they tell me that it is not going to take 30 to 45 minutes now it is going to take several hours potentially till the end of the business day in order to get my hitch installed never have I ever received such for customer service I'm not asking for a Mc chicken to be made you would think that there would be a little bit more training and organization involved with a company but apparently not.So now I have to wait around for 6+ hours until my vehicle is done instead of what I was told it shouldn't be the customers fault to be on the receiving end. My husband and I came to this location to return a rented U-Haul trailer and return some unused boxes from our move over the weekend. The women inside wasn't all to helpful and was not very accommodating. My husband was less than impressed. Luckily two of the gentleman working were in a better mood than the lady inside. They came out to our truck as we were pulling away and insisted on helping us. One of the guys is named Justin. Grade a customer service! I am having a hard time putting into words how awful my experience was with uhaul. I got a 4x8 trailer to move across the country and the first day in I got pulled over because the lights on the trailer stopped working. I went to the first one I saw (somewhere in Minnesota) and the guy told me I have to switch trailers. I had to move every single thing I owned into a new trailer with no help. Then I was charged $430 for 6 days, apparently they charge you for 8 days even if you use it for 2 which is beyond a rip off since they advertise by the day. When I went to reserve it I was estimated $212 so it's truly bs that I was charged double. I have called customer service 3 times and have called multiple locations, no one is willing or cares to help. This location specifically had 3 awful men who refused to even look up my transaction when I dropped of my trailer. Idiots. Any good company would give me a full refund but uhaul almost seems to laugh at me. Will never return. read more

Wrote a "quick tip" on this location after selecting it from Yelp - Yelpers said this location was clean and the vehicles were well maintained - I would agree. Also, for anyone who's trying to decide between a cargo van rental with a rental agency instead of U-Haul? I did both, and this was a clear winner. I rented a van from Enterprise a month ago, and while it was clean and well maintained, they held an extra $350 deposit for several days due to banking processes. U-Haul charged me $80 in advance, and refunded the extra $8.00 the next morning. #win. Two great things about this U-Haul: Friendly staff and well maintained vehicles. Two really not great things? ONE - THE WAIT. Wow. I waited more than 20 minutes in line to pick up the van, then an extra 15 to deal with parking. It threw my evening schedule off completely due to rush hour traffic. TWO - NO PARKING. Having to park in a shopping center nearby and walk to pick up the van. It's a busy street during business hours, and a very dark one after business hours. I'd recommend additional lighting in the drop off bay, and a better customer parking plan than the one I had to use. Ended on a good note - they credited me for unused anticipated miles and for filling the tank - AND had the receipt in my emailbox by 7:30 the next morning. Nicely done. Net:net - rent from these guys, just plan for extra time and a place to park. read more

U-haul is a great place to buy propane Have you ever searched around for a gas station that sells propane? Just try and get the attendant to come over and help you. Those tank exchanges? You are paying about $5.00 a gallon there for the convenience and they aren't even 100% full. The next time you need to fill your propane tank in a hurry, try U-Haul. They are trying to make a niche in the market by having dedicated propane fill stations where you can pay by credit card right there without going inside. I filled two nearly empty tanks (About 8.5 gallons) for @2.79 a gallon. They give you a $1.00 discount for using an email receipt so I got two tanks filled for under $23. That's about 1/2 the price of those tank exchanges. If you have rented from U-haul before and use the same credit card, you will get the email discount without even having to re-enter your address. They will fill anyone's tank but it must have been re-certified in the last 12 years. Propane tanks have a date stamped (usually on the handle) of the last refurbishment. If it has been obliterated or painted over, they won't fill it. Any tank you got at one of those exchange stations should be fine. This location on Cornell is next to the Kaady car wash. The parking lot is a little tight, but the super nice folks and great deal make it worth it I believe it was Jordan who helped me and despite being close to closing time on a Sunday he was in a great mood. read more

What the hell. I have never. I cannot believe how poorly my parents were treated. The people they dealt with tonight absolutely do not give a shit. We've used U-Haul numerous times. It's our go-to. But after tonight no more. We will go to Home Depot. Just to get the van was a struggle. The guy they dealt with was just rude. He treated my parents like they were criminals. He didn't care but when they asked questions he acted as if it was because they had committed a crime. They charged multiple things (new $80 hold on our card? $30 AND $4/gallon of gas if it's less than 3/4?) without any explanation. When my parents asked about these random new charges this man had the audacity to act as if it was a crime to ask. He made my parents feel like they did something wrong. After explaining the charges, there's some new double phone number verification? After my dad provided his information, this guy DEMANDED my dad provide a second person with a "DIFFERENT" (yelled this word) number. Then he has to call it and verify??? He pulled out a land line and actually called the second number to make sure it was my moms? Was that necessary? You didn't call the first number we provided. We have NEVER had to do that. And when we got out to the van, the guy pushed the paper into my dads hands and demanded he mark all "damage." When asked what counts as damage, he stared then briskly spat at us "mark whatever you think YOU need to." Then he LEFT. He just walked off. Okay so later when we are bringing the van back, we pulled up next to the building. There is a sign that states "stay in the van. Do not leave your vehicle. Someone will come out." When we came back, we sat in the van for FIFTEEN minutes. No one came. Eventually my mom went inside and caught the two women comparing their nails! They were nice but my god. Do your job. Although I had a good experience with moving with u-haul vehicle, I have to say I never saw such vicious person as one of your representative @2380 NE Cornell Road Hillsboro center. I was 30mins late on returning for which I did pay but the lady taking back the return treated me and my wife like we were beggers. My phone had died so I asked her if she can help us charge it two minutes so I can call a cab. She straight forward said no even though she was using the same phone. I asked again saying that my wife is pregnant and I cant make her walk around. She said and I quote "I cant help you nor anyone else inside, You can leave. Next time go out prepared." I am still shocked why she was so callous to us. I still don't understand if it was because of my race or she is like this. I have raised a complaint with U-Haul. This was my 4th truck rental from the Uhaul company. The first 3 were great, however after my last experience, I will be using a different moving truck company. I booked a one way truck rental from this uhaul online, for one day across the Portland area. Booking online was easy enough, gave me a price of $78 due at pickup for a 24 hour rental, nothing more. However, after you complete the online booking and add all your payment information, on your receipt, and no where else during the booking process, it claims "24 hour rental with 30 miles." I even went through the booking process a second time to see if I missed it. It literally does not mention this until you have finalized the order. So I call The uhaul location and ask about it, they informed me I get 30 miles free of charge before they start charging $0.40 a mile. Again, no where did it list this in the booking, which to me is extremely deceiving. The next morning, one day before pickup and move day, I receive a call and voicemail saying that this location does not have a one way truck in the size I booked, that they were all "local only", and that instead i would be picking my truck up at a location 18 miles away, at 5pm on a Friday, in Portland. After explaining that I was not going to try and find a ride during peak rush hour on a Friday in Portland, only to drive it an extra 18 miles in traffic, they said I could pick it up at a 3rd location in Hillsboro that would have one. The catch, they are only open until 2pm on Friday, and I wasn't available to pick the truck up until 5pm onwards. After much debate and threatening to cancel the rental, they agreed to let me pick it up Friday before noon, and keep it the extra couple hours free of charge. Come pick up time, that couple extra hours free of charge was no where to be found in the contract (despite reassurances it was noted). So now, total out the door price was $94, plus $0.40/ mile after 30 miles. Upon inspection of the truck, I saw there was a small bend in the side skirt. I asked about it, and was told it was not considered damage. Being weary of this, I took pictures of it with the damage form in view as proof it was not documented. The truck was full of gas, however, it did not include moving blankets, dolly, or most importantly, a padlock for the rear rolling door. Instead I was told I had to go buy my own. After moving, I returned the truck to the nearest location to my new place, which happened to be a She'll gas station. The attendant was very polite, however he also noticed the damaged side skirt. As I saw him looking at it, I pulled up the pictures on my phone and showed him. He agreed that they were clearly there to begin with, however he still had to make note of the damages, which is understandable, being his job. I was handed a delivery receipt and was told I would be contacted about the damages and additional charges for the extra millage ( I drove a grand total of 77 miles, 47 more than was given without option or choice). I am still waiting for the contact about the damages. All in all, this rental was too stressful and difficult while trying to deal with a move in between work and availability. Between the damages that were not documented on the truck, the changes in location pick-up, having to buy a padlock and bum a dolly from a friend, and the extra $58 I had to pay for millage and additional rental because they didn't want to use their "in town" trucks has made me not want to use uhaul ever again. I would recommend using a different truck provider. read more

Is a customer service joke and is better off being somewhere, anywhere, that does not include working with another human being. This is the only Uhaul in the area we have used, because the location is great, and has always been front and center of anytime we have needs for a storage unit or needed a truck rental. My day, in a few rounded up sentences, last Friday, goes like this:(sorry kinda long but I'm on a rampage about it, don't mind me) -Wake up at 3am to finish packing up our big 26 foot uhaul truck after our week long of packing our house to move from Seattle to Portland. -Finish packing 6 hours later, swing by the Seattle uhaul to get car trailer hitched on the truck, it broke. Then the lights weren't working. So after staff looked everywhere to get us a diff trailer and then switching trailers, we finally get on the road. After 2 extra hours of this shenanigan. -driving the 3 hour drive to OR, everyone grumpy, dogs panting, cat crying, daughter miserable and uncomfortable from being squished like a sardine in our suv, and to top off, the pacific NW decided to throw a wrench in the day to make it the hottest day if the year and breaking records. Shoot me now. -get to new home. Unpack the truck. After hours of this. Blood sweat and tears later, we go to return the truck with leftover furniture/boxes to go in our one month free storage unit rental we rented. Next point....if my husband had one complaint about me, and only one, (because I'm perfect, lol.), it would be that I check and recheck things, verify somethings to death. I really get annoying about verifying, but Ive been so screwed in the past about someone not doing their jobs correctly, not putting something right into a computer, or just missing a part of a reservation or what not that is messed up everything. So therefore, I verify, and I verify with fervor. Point in case, I verified our uhaul truck rental and storage unit reservation 3 times ahead of time. And of course, the last time I verified suddenly magically the uhaul lady did not have the storage unit reserved anymore, even though I already had a email showing my reservation. How did that happen? Who the hell knows. This is why my obsessive verifying happens. So on to pulling up to the this Uhaul to unload storage stuff and return truck. Manager looks at me and says, "nope, we don't have a storage unit for you". Of course I came unglued. A sweaty hot angry unglued lady who seriously had no time for this crap. So I tell him so. I said "yes I do have a reservation, checked and verified 3 times, lets get this done and speed this up so we can finish this day up", he looks at me and says "nope. We are going to slow this down". Condescending. Controlling. And seriously NOT the right thing to say to a customer, especially given the circumstances. It goes on this way he ignores me, could care less of our horrid day, and he just wanted to be right about him not having a unit for me. I pass him my email confirmation, he grunts, says "oh wow you ARE correct!". I say um yes...I know I am. He ends ups giving me a unit, a bigger one for the same price. Ok good. I should be a happy girl at this point..right? No. This experience will forever burn in my head. I added that star because I still got my unit. But as for his service skills, no WAY. This is the last time I'll use this uhaul since corporate shoulda seen that this guy is a joke and should never been placed in management. He was a bad bad choice. :( verify people. These guys are GREAT! They get very busy but always retain that premium customer service. I have done several services now and each and every visit is enjoyable! read more

There is a woman that works there and is the rudest person there. I used their services once and now will never go back to them because of her. I will go to the further location. Get more employees that are actually nice! She was rude and a total B . One bad employee can bring a business down. Get rid of her. Both times i talked to her she was rude and not helpful at all. Very poor customer service, except the manager. However, apparently things don't get communicated to the rest of the staff. A friend is closing an account after 8 years and is very upset with the customer service. I would never use them in the future. read more

Awesome place! Clean, well-lit, the office has all the extra moving supplies well-stocked, and the staff is incredibly friendly and very efficient. read more
