This is the worst experience I've ever had with y'all in my entire life. I had an appointment at 1 o'clock to pick up my U-Haul, I was a little late and got there about 120. I was going to pick up a brand new couch about five minutes down the road, and when I opened up the back of the U-Haul, there was needles and human feces and cups of pee and blankets, and it looked like somebody was having a fire back there and you could obviously tell that a homeless person was camping in the back. That is ridiculous that they do not wake up and check their truck trucks considering I made an appointment for the middle of the day. When I called back, they tried to say I will give you a discount, no I want a U-Haul for free. This was inconveniencing as heck and Disgusting. Not to mention the entire cab smell like cigarette for my hour ride home because they told me that they didn't have any other trucks. read more

My experience here is only the propane fill up. Apparently not all U-Haul, has propane refill station so this was the 2nd place we had to drive to, for RV propane refill. My boyfriend rented a van from this U-Haul location and unfortunately he accidentally dropped my debit card and his driver's license in the van at some point. U-Haul contacted him later that night letting him know that they had our belongings. I just helped him move into my place (over an hour away) so we weren't able to run back and grab them. Here we are 12 days later and I'm getting ready to head out and pick them up when my boyfriend calls me and says he reached out and U-Haul threw them away. I know it's been almost a couple of weeks, but there was no timeline given as to how long they'd hold onto our items (I thought it would be 30 days like other retail places). There was zero follow up and we were not warned or notified that they were going to through our things in the garbage. I was upset so I called this location and spoke with a very helpful male employee but he didn't see the cards anywhere and said the manager Pauletta would take a look around and call me back and I gave him my phone number. After a few hours I still hadn't heard anything so I called again and got to speak with this manager. She was very short and rude with me, saying that she already "called the guy back" (meaning my boyfriend) but never called me back after I specifically left my number for her and was told she'd be in touch with me. When I asked what happened to our cards, she said it got thrown out when they cleaned out the safe. There was zero apology or accountability for throwing away our personal belongings. I'm pretty upset with that interaction and wanted to make note of this. I have only rented a storage space from this Uhaul location, no truck rentals. But I can confirm that customer service here is really bad. It seems like Uhaul is always short staffed and the employees are miserable working there. So do yourself a favor and do as much online as you can. As far as my storage space goes, it's actually cleaner, cheaper, and more secure than other storage facilities I have rented from in Manteca. So, I guess it's a tradeoff for what you prioritize most. For me, I will deal with poor customer service to have a cheaper, cleaner, and more secure storage unit. Hope this helps you in your decision making! read more

I've been using this location's services and equipment for a while. I have rented vans twice and that was mostly as expected, not problematic, but less smooth than it should have been. Renting storage units has been a pain. I've been using two storage units from December 2021 until now. I've stopped using one of them today. Items were missing. Someone had been in a suitcase that was stored in the non-climate-controlled unit. I'm not pleased, but without proof of something happening, I'm out of luck. I had enough stuff for two units and now, it all fits into one. Apparently, the cameras and security isn't quite enough. Does any storage facility have good security? There was a price increase, so I was interested in consolidating and I found that someone helped without my authorization. Talked to an owner and she walked back with me. Since there was no forced entry, I'm out of luck. Since U-Haul locations are franchises, they're at the mercy of the franchise owners. Good owners do better. read more

Scheduled a 20' truck for Saturday to be picked up at 9am. I received a call Friday afternoon from UHaul to inform me of a delay and that the truck will not be ready until 11:30. Wish I could have been told sooner so that I could make arrangements with movers. Called the scheduling department to try and work something out. Maybe find another truck. The lady on the phone was rude and insisted that I had the truck for 24 hours so I had nothing to complain about. I askes for her name to file a complaint and she hung up on me. So unprofessional. U-Haul used to uphold their appointments and give their customers the supplies & trucks needed at the location needed. Now there is no guarantee even with over two weeks notice that what you need will be at the location you ordered from. We ordered in Manteca CA and they are making us pick it up in Livermore which is 30 miles away (24 hrs notice). That's a lot of extra gas and miles we have to pay for that now. Moving is already stressful. This just made things way more stressful and more challenging. read more

I called for moving blankets that are $10 a day to rent for a dozen. They didn't have any at the time but the lady on the phone said she will let me know when they will get them in. Days later she called and then put them on hold for me- which I appreciated because she didn't really have to. However this is what makes for great service! We had a reservation for a trailer from 7am 8/10 - 7am 8/13. I called to confirm hours of operation for pick up and I was told by Bridgette that I could pick up between 7am-7pm. When I arrived at 2:30 on 8/10 my reservation was cancelled and the owner stated the pick up time was 7am. His solution was to send me 45 minutes away from home for the next available pick up. Oh yes, these bad reviews. Don't surprise me at all. We just had an extremely horrible experience. Going to this U-Haul.! I mean we encountered not 1 but 2 horribly rude employees they absolutely must hate their job and I wonder if it's the Management's fault or if they're just crappy employees!! Well where do I begin? First of all it was greeted horribly rude hey can I help you with a disgusting attitude Once we got the keys. They were like oh yeah go find your truck which we had to go off of the plates in the parking lot to go find it on our own. So they didn't even pull up the truck Once I open the truck, I realized how dirty it was and since I had just been treated so rudely, I wasn't taking any chances so I took photos and of the whole truck because it was disgusting. Later on when returning the truck different crappy employee came back after checking the truck aggressively placed a Red Bull empty can in my hand and asked me why I didn't clean up my mess so relieved I took photos!! Beware don't bring your business to this establishment!!!! Please I urge you with times like this take your funds to a place where they're appreciated not only that Jesus just keeps going!!! When we picked up the truck they gave us a moving blankets. We told them that we didn't need the moving blankets and they said take them just in case if you don't use them, you won't be charged for them while we didn't end up using them and when we went to the truck, there was some in there when we got back, they tried to charge us for every single of the blankets this place or it is not only rude, but they're out here, trying to scam people!!! read more

Had no idea they had a propane fill station on their property, which makes it hella convenient because it's close to home and there is room enough when we fill the RV propane tank, as well as our smaller portable tanks. Only thing is the wait for an attendant to come out. Summer will be killer! Prices are high, but what isn't? Other than that, we haven't used any other U-Haul services. read more

When I called corporate the lady I talked to actually said to me "I can't believe she still has a job, we get so many complaints about her" The reason I called corporate... i ordered 2 moving u-boxes to be picked up in Manteca, I ordered them 4 weeks in advance and called 2 weeks in advance to verify they would be available to pick up in Manteca, the manager, who originally took the order confirmed my order and told me (with attitude) I don't need to keep checking, they are ordered, they will be there. Night before I'm supposed to pick them up I get an email that my U-boxes are available to pick up the next afternoon in Stockton, uh... no. I call in the morning, manager answers, I explain the situation and she's like "Oh, yeah we forgot to order them to be delivered to Manteca so you'll have to go to Stockton to pick them up" I said "No thank you, I ordered them in advance because I don't want to go to Stockton I live half a mile from the Manteca U-Haul, I'm not driving to Stockton and when I called, you said don't worry they will be here, can you have them delivered later today or tomorrow?" She said, "Look, it is what it is, what exactly do you want me to do about it" I just told you what I want you to do! And if that doesn't work then deliver it to my house, I'll even pay the delivery charge. This woman who is paid to manage this location said to me "Don't you think if we had a truck driver available your U-Box would be here" I was like am I supposed to know your drivers schedules? That seems like something the person securing the U-boxes should know, right? She said " Like I told you, it is what it is" So I canceled my order, called PODS paid a little bit more but they delivered the POD, picked it up a few days later and delivered it to my new home far far away from Manteca and the worst U-Haul ever. And then a few weeks later, the call to corporate because U-haul was trying to charge me the monthly rental fee & the cost of shipping to San Diego on the 2 U-boxes that I canceled, because dingbat over in Manteca didn't do her job right once again, she only canceled the pick up part of the order, not the shipping, the monthly storage and the delivery to the new location. We are talking like over $1300 . I also don't understand how she still has a job. read more

I'm not sure why this place doesn't have better reviews, but my experience was pretty good. But that's all thanks to Aulani. So, due to COVID; U-Haul has been recommending that customers try to use their online service to reserve and basically "fill out" the necessary application. I know that's not convenient to all, but it's pretty swift and easy when you have a phone or even a regular desktop at home. Anyways, when we got there it was quick to let them know wot the reservation was and she ended up finding it quickly. The next steps does require a phone (not sure if there is an alternate, I'm sure there is); we had to use the link they send you at the branch to upload the required driver's license. After that, they gave the keys and that was it. Very pleasant experience. Highly, recommended. read more

In the process of suing this place. Compete joke, I had my property in there "U-Box" for about a month. When I took my stuff out the GM who doesn't display any type of manners didn't properly operate the Forklift and damaged my property. When I opened my U-box the boxes came falling out and my stuff broke. When I looked at the GM . Like really " you see what you did" he had the nerve to go inside and grab a broom and dustpan and drop it in front of me and say you can clean it up. DUDE ARE YOU KIDDING ME. Long story short I filed a claim and they denied it because they said regardless how the forklift was handled I should have bought the insurance plan ( WHICH WAS NEVER OFFERED TO ME) . Waited allll day for the box drop. Finally at 1 pm they said the box couldn't be delivered because the didn't have anyone that could deliver it!! They did get us s box but not until the next day. Box was moved to GA where the drama contained. Can't find the box. Can't deliver even though we gave 48 hours notice and requested delivery. Go with another storage company. Had 3 units there, cleared out 2-1/2. Went back for last load to find it had been broken into. Roll around tool box and 3 large totes of tools gone! Manager said did I call you? No she had not! Then you must be on the list she said.18 units in one night were broken into. Then 2 days later more! Police showed us over 4 pages of reports for this address for units having things stolen. Always courteous staff haven't had to wait more than 5 minutes before they come out and take care of my needs.I recommend coming here for propane bottle refills or any rental needs. read more

U-Haul= The Walmart of truck rentals. It started off promising. Reserving the truck online was simple. Picking it up is where they lost me. I ordered the truck online because the advertisement claims you get to skip the line. First of all, when you pull into this place there isn't really any clear signage where you are actually supposed to go if you have made an online contactless reservation. The app started having activity as soon as we pulled into the lot so we followed what it said. It told us to go ahead and go straight to the truck.... ALLLLLL the way in the back of the lot since we ordered the 26' truck. I assumed that's where you get the keys then since it told you to walk all the way back there. We got to the truck... no keys. We saw another employee helping some other people so we waited for him to come our way so maybe he could help us too. At this point the app was saying U-Haul wanted to call one of my relatives to confirm my reservation... wtf??? The guy finally came over to us and was useless. Couldn't help us, didn't care to help us and didn't even offer to drive us back to the office when he told us we needed to go to the office and get in line.... The line mobile pick up was the purpose of avoiding... we went back and got in line and then the app told me to go to the kiosk to get my keys.... No kiosk in sight! I walked all over the whole property at this point. I finally caught a different employee outside who told me I just was supposed to tell the ladies working that I was there for my keys..... that's not what the directions were on the app! The whole purpose of mobile pick up was to avoid that office entirely! He finally went behind the counter and grabbed me my keys and we were on our way after a half hour waste of time. The only star I'll give for this location was that dropping it off was easy. I'll go with another company next time. read more

I went in to buy some moving supplies, and the staff was all over the place not being very helpful. While I was being "helped" another customer who seemed to be a regular came in loud and started to distract the employee. I figured out what I needed and was being rung up I had to tell the employee over 3 times what I was purchasing (4 boxes). It seemed like it was play time and not a business. I'm usually pretty easy going but I have never wanted to tell someone to focus on getting my transaction done so bad, as well as tell the other customer to shut up and wait her turn. When I use Yelp to find businesses and read the reviews, I don't always find them to be scripture...you weigh the positives and negatives and make your decisions there. Having said that, I found out that this is the only place, in Manteca, to buy and install trailer receivers. I saw the reviews and as low as they were, this place was more convenient for me so I checked it out. Went there on a Saturday, just to get info...the usual 20 minute wait, got to the counter, the two people that helped us out were friendly but DEFINITELY in a fast, stressed mode, everything was coming in at once, I get that. So, they get my info, it's in the system and told me cost and stock....the one thing that caught my ear was if it wasn't in stock there, they could have the manager pick the hitch up in Stockton, have it the next day...GREAT, just need to call back on Monday and get an appointment. Its Monday...and the price that I was told was different than what she told me (in her defense, they may have told me the price of the receiver itself and not all the labor and taxes) so that is my bad but then to inform me that it would take 4-6 DAYS TO SHIP IT FROM THE STOCKTON UHAUL THAT IS ABOUT 20 MINUTES AWAY!!! Then informs me that if I want Express mailing, it would be an addition 41.ish. I informed her I'm getting different information about this as she is trying to set up an appointment...I then inform her that if that's the case, then I will go to the Stockton one.... If the woman I spoke to is a call operator and NOT an employee of the store, than I truly apologize to the store. If she is an employee, you just lost my business....sad cause we were considering on of your monthly storage units to rent. Great place to get a trailer. I just hate and don't understand why they need so much dang information on what kind of vehicle that Need transportation to another location. Like really what if I went to a car show or a auto auction to buy a car I don't know what make and model I'll be buying yet, but i know I will trailer it to where it needs to go. Pointless information that they don't need but required. Just like the company doesn't need to know the exact location ill be picking up the vehicle as well as dropping the vehicle off at. If you're in a hurry pick a different u-haul location. If you have a reservation plan on coming about an hour early. This location is horribly understaffed. I stood in line for 50 minutes for my reservation 10am. There was 3 people in front of me and one cashier. I felt bad for the poor cashier. He repeatedly called for help and nobody came to help him till about 10:45. I don't understand why u-haul doesn't call your references for a rental before hand or why they try to sell you on donating to the environment when you've been standing in a line for over twenty minutes. At this point they should be donating the gas or mileage to us for our rentals making us stand there and listen to all the awkward reference calls. I'm amazed nobody in line snapped because it was truly like being at the dmv. At least the dmv has chairs to sit in, we just had cardboard boxes to lean against. In addition to agonizing wait, we didn't receive an apology for the wait and we were not informed there is a $30 service fee for u-haul to put gas in the truck if you do not return it at the same amount you left with. The attendant did let us go and fill the truck up more and bring it back after our return deadline. That was the only positive experience with this location. Overall this store is a total shit show. Reserved a 15" truck more than a week ahead. Got a call a day before I was scheduled to pick it up saying that the truck is not available and it is out for repair. They asked me if I wanted to go pick up a truck in Patterson. WTF? They didn't not even try to accommodate me and try to give me any other options. Like really? Am I supposed to re-schedule my move out of town because of these dumb ass idiots? On top of that. I drove by the store and saw at least 2-3 15' trucks in their yard along with some other ones. Worst experience I've ever had with this company. Edwin Perez was rude and had extremely horrible customer service. He would not let me rent just because the person that drove me there to help me is not allowed to rent from uhaul which has nothing to do with me. He refused to help me or even try to help me he did absolutely nothing. He then supposedly call his manager Alejandro Ibarra who also did absolutely nothing didn't even try to go the extra mile to help someone. I felt very discriminated against as I have rented before and never had any problems in the past, I then drove to another location where the employees were amazing and I had absolutely no problem renting. I'm not sure what problem these two men had but i will definitely be telling everyone I know to avoid this location for being VERY POOR with customer service as well as employee work ethic. I scheduled my request two weeks in advance. Was bumped a week back the night before my scheduled move. I was on hold for 30-40 minutes every time I tried to call and hung up on. The second time they tried to bump me with NO notice, I cancelled my reservation. This place is awful, I will never use UHaul again. read more
