Such a cute little spot, and honestly a great find! Just a heads up, it's kiosk order-and-pay only, so don't go in expecting table service. We stopped by close to 8 pm on a Saturday (per Yelp, it says they close at 9 pm), so it wasn't crowded much..just 1 other seated family & a couple of to-go orders. The decor is minimal, but the space is bright. You order from a QR code on each table and/or on an ipad for to-go. The staff are welcoming & friendly. Everyone seems to still be figuring out the flow of things. I wasn't uber hungry (since I had a late lunch), so I just ate a side order of spicy tuna roll off of my hubs' chicken katsu curry ($18.95) order. It came w/ 6 pieces and was enough of me. The spicy tuna very fresh and delicious w/ a side of eel sauce..trust! The chicken katsu curry was notable, but not wow or memorable. All katsu meals come w/ a cabbage salad, miso soup & seasonal pickled vegetables. It's definitely pricier here, for the amount of food you get..compared to other places in OC. U Katsu is a new Japanese restaurant in Foothill Ranch, where Pick-Up Stix used to be. I'd consider it's in its soft opening period as it was first opened in April. Guests can order food using the kiosk mounted on each table. I suspect there is only one person in the kitchen preparing food because it takes some times before the food comes out. While I used the kiosk to order food, it is not equipped to process payment so I had to go to the cashier station to pay. It's a family owned/operated joint. Dave and Christine are welcoming. It seems to me this is their first time running a restaurant. There is no sign on the door for their hours. There is a nervous energy when they engage guests Food here are tasty. Katsu is crunchy, not oily. Crunchy roll is good too. I hope this joint will flourish so there is another place to go in this area. I plan to come back in a month to see how things go. read more

I visited here for lunch during their soft opening. Tonkatsu (pork katsu) is one of my very favorite meals so I was excited to see this place open in my neighborhood. It's located in a large plaza in Foothill Ranch so there's plenty of parking. I sat at a table (there are maybe a dozen) and ordered from a touchscreen that every table has. There were many variations of both pork and chicken katsu as far as size and sides. I decided on pork katsu with sides of salad and rice, which also comes with miso soup. Canned sodas are available, and I got a Coke, but I would have been fine with the pitcher of water set at my table. My food was delivered to my table in less than 10 minutes. The pork katsu was excellent, very delicious. The panko crust was perfectly crunchy and the pork tender and flavorful, obviously good quality. It wasn't oily at all. The presentation was a bit unusual as katsu is usually cut into thin slices but this was served in small chunks. No matter, it tasted wonderful. I'm a sauce guy and am critical of katsu sauce but this homemade katsu sauce is the best I've tasted outside of Japan. The accompanying salad was fresh and vibrant and the rice was fine. I even thought the miso soup was pretty tasty, this from a guy who isn't usually all that thrilled with miso soup. There was a small banchan of some sort of radish that was good too. Chopsticks were provided - I'm not sure if they have utensils if using chopsticks isn't in your skill set. Service was friendly and attentive and the décor is simple yet tasteful; I like their lighting. I'm glad to have a place nearby that serves quality katsu plates. read more

Solid new katsu spot in Lake Forest. I got a cheese katsu and it was nicely fried, crispy, and was filling. Other than that it was pretty standard for a Katsu compared to other places in Irvine. It was also served with miso soup, rice and a salad for 18.99. I wish there was more katsu sauce and a curry option down the line. Interior is pretty but kinda small. It seems like self seat and order with a tablet on the table, but I think they didn't have a hostess or dedicated waiter for seating yet. It got busy when I came on a Wednesday evening and my order took awhile. They're still in the opening phase and seemed understaffed so I'm understanding of that. A great addition in the foothill Ranch area for all the Japanese style Katsu dishes. This is a tiny restaurant with some seating area and take out. I like having my food fresh so I had to check this out for myself. They have all the usual Katsu dishes like that Katsu Plate, Sando and Curry. I knew I had to try the pork loin katsu plate and add some spicy tuna roll just because it's one of my favorite rolls in general. You place your order on your phone and it is sent to the table that you are seated at. The katsu was tasty and crispy, and I love the panko they use as it was very similar to the one used in Japan. The flavors all meshed very well but I felt like it would have been better if they would give a little more sauce (the curry) or even serve tonkatsu sauce at the table as it didn't feel like a proportional amount for what was being served. There's plexiglass at the counters which blocks the view of the staff to get their attention if service is needed. Came during lunch time so it was busy and took longer to get food. Some reviews say crispy mine was overcooked but wasn't hot since it probably sat waiting to get delivered. Drink selection is poor if you need something refillable. There's sushi dishes but those are not spectacular either. I'll come back another time since it's close to where I live and to see if it was just bad timing. I was excited to see a new katsu spot in the area, but even after a month to fix the quirks with opening a new fnb, this place missed it. I ordered the katsu combo with udon, but the udon was completely missing--charging a default tip (I changed it to a lower amount for pickup) and leaving the order incomplete feels like robbery. The cheese katsu was meh with barely any cheese in it. The teriyaki chicken looked NOTHING like the photo; it resembled boiled supermarket chicken with a few carrot slices thrown in. If I knew this, I could've just went to Trader Joe's. They also charge a convenience fee for ordering through their online provider peblla. I've used peblla before and I've never seen a fee like that.. let alone a fee for using the recommended one. The layout is confusing with ordering and pickup squeezed on the side, and the blacked-out bar glass is what you first see when you enter. For the price that I paid, I would not be coming back anytime soon. The price doesn't match for what I paid. Next time, I'd rather make the drive to Curry House CoCo Ichibanya, Hako, or Katsu Bar. read more

Everything was so good and fresh and really hit the spot. I heard the Katsu Sando was a new addition to their menu, and it was really good. It's also packaged in a way that makes it perfect for lunches or quick meals for school or work. Personally I also really liked their Chicken Teriyaki bowl--it was very filling, fresh, and delicious. I ordered a couple of different things to try and they were all delicious: Pork Katsu Combination with cold soba: Highly recommend. The Katsu was so tender and juicy with a perfectly crisp exterior. Drinks: The matcha they used was really good quality in the matcha latte, and the sparkling yuzu drink had a very refreshing, strong citrusy taste. I want to try the strawberry matcha next. Bulgogi Udon: My son ate his whole bowl and he's a really picky eater. Apparently the noodles are made in house. Portions were generous and pricing was very reasonable.
