Had a katsu don and it was amazing!!! Also got a chicken katsu bento and we ate everything! Loved the small container of pickled daikon. On our second visit we got two katsu plates and they were gone in minutes!!!

Ordered online with their website for takeout. Packed very well! The pork katsu was Yummy! I'd steer clear of the beef katsu like others have mentioned it's ground beef. Other than that, Great place and we will return.

Really good chicken katsu! I got a chicken katsu sando, chicken katsu curry plate, and a yuzu sparkling ade. The sandwich was amazing! The chicken katsu was the perfect amount of crispy and the slaw and curry were the perfect combo. The chicken katsu curry plate had large pieces of chicken with perfectly crispy katsu. The curry was phenomenal. Super flavorful. And to top it off, the staff was so nice and attentive. I will definitely be back!

U Katsu is a new Japanese restaurant in Foothill Ranch, where Pick-Up Stix used to be. I'd consider it's in its soft opening period as it was first opened in April. Guests can order food using the kiosk mounted on each table. I suspect there is only one person in the kitchen preparing food because it takes some times before the food comes out. While I used the kiosk to order food, it is not equipped to process payment so I had to go to the cashier station to pay. It's a family owned/operated joint. Dave and Christine are welcoming. It seems to me this is their first time running a restaurant. There is no sign on the door for their hours. There is a nervous energy when they engage guests Food here are tasty. Katsu is crunchy, not oily. Crunchy roll is good too. I hope this joint will flourish so there is another place to go in this area. I plan to come back in a month to see how things go.

Food was really good. Tonkatsu had great texture and flavor. And the sauce was awesome. This is the second time I have been there in about 1 month. Service seems a bit off and the instructions are a little unclear. They are a smallish shop and seem to have issues when it gets busy. If the service was a little better and we did have to wait like 40 mins to get our food, would have given 5 stars. Good food but it seems like they are still working out the service and ordering process. Will give this place one more try.

Solid new katsu spot in Lake Forest. I got a cheese katsu and it was nicely fried, crispy, and was filling. Other than that it was pretty standard for a Katsu compared to other places in Irvine. It was also served with miso soup, rice and a salad for 18.99. I wish there was more katsu sauce and a curry option down the line. Interior is pretty but kinda small. It seems like self seat and order with a tablet on the table, but I think they didn't have a hostess or dedicated waiter for seating yet. It got busy when I came on a Wednesday evening and my order took awhile. They're still in the opening phase and seemed understaffed so I'm understanding of that. Hopefully they can get the kinks out and staff more. Give it a shot if you're in the mood!

I visited here for lunch during their soft opening. Tonkatsu (pork katsu) is one of my very favorite meals so I was excited to see this place open in my neighborhood. It's located in a large plaza in Foothill Ranch so there's plenty of parking. I sat at a table (there are maybe a dozen) and ordered from a touchscreen that every table has. There were many variations of both pork and chicken katsu as far as size and sides. I decided on pork katsu with sides of salad and rice, which also comes with miso soup. Canned sodas are available, and I got a Coke, but I would have been fine with the pitcher of water set at my table. My food was delivered to my table in less than 10 minutes. The pork katsu was excellent, very delicious. The panko crust was perfectly crunchy and the pork tender and flavorful, obviously good quality. It wasn't oily at all. The presentation was a bit unusual as katsu is usually cut into thin slices but this was served in small chunks. No matter, it tasted wonderful. I'm a sauce guy and am critical of katsu sauce but this homemade katsu sauce is the best I've tasted outside of Japan. The accompanying salad was fresh and vibrant and the rice was fine. I even thought the miso soup was pretty tasty, this from a guy who isn't usually all that thrilled with miso soup. There was a small banchan of some sort of radish that was good too. Chopsticks were provided - I'm not sure if they have utensils if using chopsticks isn't in your skill set. Service was friendly and attentive and the décor is simple yet tasteful; I like their lighting. I'm glad to have a place nearby that serves quality katsu plates.

Cheese katsu. Where's the cheese? Barely any.

I was excited to see a new katsu spot in the area, but even after a month to fix the quirks with opening a new fnb, this place missed it. I ordered the katsu combo with udon, but the udon was completely missing--charging a default tip (I changed it to a lower amount for pickup) and leaving the order incomplete feels like robbery. The cheese katsu was meh with barely any cheese in it. The teriyaki chicken looked NOTHING like the photo; it resembled boiled supermarket chicken with a few carrot slices thrown in. If I knew this, I could've just went to Trader Joe's. They also charge a convenience fee for ordering through their online provider peblla. I've used peblla before and I've never seen a fee like that.. let alone a fee for using the recommended one. The layout is confusing with ordering and pickup squeezed on the side, and the blacked-out bar glass is what you first see when you enter. For the price that I paid, I would not be coming back anytime soon. The price doesn't match for what I paid. Next time, I'd rather make the drive to Curry House CoCo Ichibanya, Hako, or Katsu Bar.

    Chicken Teriyaki bowl

I tried UKatsu for the first time as dine-in a few weeks ago, and I was happy with my experience. At the time I tried their Chicken Katsu and Udon and really enjoyed them. Today I happened to be passing by so I stopped in for some takeout. I was ordering for my friends as well so we got the Chicken Teriyaki Bowl, Beef bowl, chicken katsu, and Katsu Sando. Everything was so good and fresh and really hit the spot. I heard the Katsu Sando was a new addition to their menu, and it was really good. It's also packaged in a way that makes it perfect for lunches or quick meals for school or work. Personally I also really liked their Chicken Teriyaki bowl--it was very filling, fresh, and delicious. My friend also got a Vanilla cream matcha and it was really yummy and the cream was pleasantly light and not too sweet. She is a matcha lover and she said the matcha quality was really good and it didn't have any bitter aftertaste, which she appreciated. I will be coming back soon! I hope this place does well because it's already become my new go-to spot for katsu in the area!

    Katsu combo with soba

Soba was great for a summer day. The beef katsu was with ground beef.... Not worth it for my taste. Better go with the pork. Service was slow for a small shop during lunch. Curry was more towards Korean curry than Japanese curry.

This place absolutely deserves 5 stars. We came in and were immediately taken care of--great service from start to finish, and they even surprised us with a free drink, which was a really nice touch. We ordered the chicken and pork katsu combo, and everything was on point. The katsu was crispy on the outside, juicy on the inside, and perfectly cooked. It came with miso soup plus our choice of udon soup and a California roll, which made it feel like a full, well-rounded meal. We also got the garlic edamame, and honestly, that alone is worth coming back for. I'm glad Foothill Ranch finally has a yummy place to get katsu. Overall, great food, generous portions, and excellent service. David, the owner, was very helpful and welcoming. We will be back!

It's so nice to have an authentic and excellent katsu (cutlet) restaurant in Foothill Ranch! The food is top notch. They do a great job with the koromo (breading) which is arguably the most important part of a katsu! Cabbage is finely sliced, and the rice is very good. Service is also excellent. The restaurant has a clean modern feel. Besides katsu, they had udon noodles and rice bowls and appetizers.

When we went to pay for both of our plates which were less than 1.5lbs each, they tried to charge us for FOUR SEPARATE $17, 1.5 lbs plates, so $68 for 6 lbs of food total, even though we only had less than 3 lbs of food total ($34). When we asked why they said it was because we used two bowls to make each plate, but when we walked in we asked them if they still do things by weight and they said yes. We used two bowls to make the plates because we were holding our infant baby and we couldn't sit there trying to balance these super tall plates and we didn't want to hold up the line. It seems idea behind the one bowl policy is to stop people from making really really large plates that are 3 pounds and splitting it with multiple people. However to combat that they instead made a person who made an only 1.5 pound plate pay more than they would've charged someone who made a 3 pound plate. It literally makes no sense. Also, the policy the incentivizes people to sit there and play Tetris with a bowl and hold up the entire line while trying to cram as much food as they can into it while dropping food everywhere. It's a very stupid policy and even dumber were the workers for not being able to read between the lines and see that we both just wanted to make normal meals while holding our baby instead of gaming the system. We left and got food elsewhere, these guys are whackos.

This is the real deal, with dishes that actually feel special, layered, and full of flavor. We started with this spicy beef dish that was insanely good. It had a couple different kinds of pepper, plenty of garlic, and this perfect punch of flavor that hit hard without being overwhelming. Spicy, savory, aromatic, and just so addicting. The lobster with noodles was phenomenal. Obviously lobster is hard to complain about, but this was cooked so well. The meat came right out of the shell, the noodles soaked up all that flavor, and the whole dish felt like one of those "okay, this place is serious" moments. Even the bok choy was memorable, which says a lot. It had this light brown sauce that tasted soy sauce based, but it wasn't overly salty at all. Just clean, refreshing, and a perfect balance to the richer dishes. The star of the show though was the fish. No question. It was cooked beautifully, super tender and juicy, and that yellow sauce spooned over the top was unreal. So much flavor without taking away from the fish itself. That dish alone is worth coming back for. Service was great too. Everyone was helpful, attentive, and made the whole dinner feel smooth. The inside has a really nice, slightly upscale vibe that makes it perfect for a nicer dinner with friends or family. Frank's Bistro is top tier. It was also pretty expensive, around $55, and the portion size was just okay. The minced pork fried rice tasted like your typical fried rice, nothing memorable. The place gets really packed during dinner time, so expect a wait and maybe come before you get super hungry. It was also kind of hard to get the servers' attention, probably because they were busy with how crowded it gets. Overall, I'd say it's mid, especially for the price.

My favorites were definitely the beef satay which was cool to perfection and the pad Thai - very well done - and I've been eating at different Thai places since I was a teenager!
