Sushi only thing decent was the Yellowtail
Jason T.

Unfortunately, we had a bad experience here upon our first and last visit to Fat Fish. I'll keep it short and sweet. We went with AYCE with no expectations and were still disappointed. Tuna sushi smelled like a fish tank, seared albacore was not even seared and did not look or smell fresh. The salmon sushi was mushy and mussels were not good. Green Dragon roll and Yellowtail were decent but the rice used was very cold and hard. When we asked to bring bill as we did not want to continue with AYCE we were charged $90 for what we ordered or pay $6 for an additional two rounds. We passed....service was also extremely slow for us being only one of two customers in the restaurant at dinner time. Another

Another great meal at Fat Fish Sushi. This was our second time at this fantastic restaurant. The service was once again excellent and the sushi was delicious! We are very lucky to have such a great sushi restaurant in our neighborhood.

AYCE Dinner ($37) - Unagi

Back in May, a fellow yelp*er messaged me, asking what I thought about Fat Fish Sushi's AYCE. At the the time I had never been to restaurant but since, it has been on my to-try list. Fast forward six months, I jumped on my motorcycle and finally made it out to Fat Fish Sushi on an early Sunday evening. Fat Fish Sushi - https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=bKarCF0PeWrTnYIhbDGnnw&userid=O6EBodP3Fgu_n67efSKnBQ I arrived at 4pm and was instantly greeted upon walking through the front door. "How much is the AYCE?" - The lady behind the counter, Jenny, replied, "$37." Okay, let's eat! AYCE Rules (Two hour limit) - https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=bnKVq1w9xwLkVkAtwI1qmg&userid=O6EBodP3Fgu_n67efSKnBQ Personally, I have never been a fan of a time limit placed on dinner. If you are a paying customer, you're paying to be there. In addition, one of their prerequisites for AYCE is a two or more people. However, I was alone at the time and it wasn't an issue. I'm guessing that during peak times, they would rather give up space for a party of two or more customers to maximize profits. IMO, not a very smart business practice. It's a good way to lose a lot of potential clients. Like most other sushi restaurants, artificial crab meat could be found in quite a few of the rolls I ordered. (i.e. - Filler) When ordering AYCE, I try to avoid anything that resembles a dressed up California roll or orders that contain fake crab meat. The order: Wasabi - The color of the wasabi looked off, pale and muted; looked old. Photo - https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=HjZfXA-KSh7cUHEAKEWi6g&userid=O6EBodP3Fgu_n67efSKnBQ Baked Green Mussels - Okay. Photo - https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=L_1FSMlmLktud96oW7Nawg&userid=O6EBodP3Fgu_n67efSKnBQ Of all the items ordered, the tuna and salmon stood out as my two favorites. I am a big fan of salmon so I will always order the nigiri. Saba is another one of my go-to sushi orders but unfortunately it was not very good. Cost: $37 (+tax/tip) Overall, Fat Fish Sushi was just okay... To be honest, I've had much better for about the same $$ from my usual go-to AYCE sushi off of Bake Parkway; also located in Lake Forest. - Big Aloha! Food: 3- Ambiance: 3 Service: 3 Value: 3

Excellent experience overall! Small and cool little restaurant in Lake Forest. Reservations only for AYCE (All You Can Eat.) Only inside seating. AYCE $35 per person! It was only two of us and it was our first time here, so we didn't know what to expect or how things worked. We came on a Friday around 5:00 pm. No waiting to be seated. We noticed lots of people ordered for take out, so lots of people seemed to know about this place! Staff was very friendly and helpful. She explained exactly how everything worked, and if we wanted to do AYCE or order individual. We said AYCE not really knowing what to expect. Since it wasn't too busy, they took us in and set us up on our table. Service was quick, and the food was actually really good. We do not have one complaint about the food! All sushi rolls we ordered were delicious. Once we were done, our waitress comes, checks our orders and said: "I will change your stay from AYCE to individual and set you up on two combos, since you guys didn't really eat enough, and it will be a bit cheaper." (That was really nice of her) It was an excellent experience here. Will definitely come back again.

Had the AYCE option last week and it was not good. Lots of rice on the rolls. Not only that but I had a couple rolls fall apart so I just ate the fish part. Server would not allow anyone in our party to order more u til I ate all the scrap rice. The salmon nigiri was super bland to me. If you Like a ton of rice on your sushi rolls, this is the place for it. I will never come here again.

Lake forest

The food was good I definitely recommend the California roll for anyone who is not sure what to get. The food was really filling and the service is good too. The service was really nice and they made sure to make us feel comfortable. The place is a little small it is an all you can eat buffet the price is 20$ for kids 10 and under and 40$ for adults.of course they have an option for buffet and just to eat.It is beautiful here and I will be comping back for sure. Over all this was an amazing place.

Outside sign is a hi small but the Service and flavor is Big!!

The food quality is mediocre, offering no high-quality dishes that justify the price being charged.

My coworker had told me about this spot and I'm glad I tried it!…read more After a mile run, me and my husband decided to get dinner here. We were greeted by Steve. Very friendly, attentive, and a busy bee! It was nice to see regulars there for dinner as well. Food was great. I got their Caribbean roll and Lover roll. Both very big sizes and delicious. We'll definitely come back again! Thanks for a nice first dining experience Sashimi team!

A little disappointed. I'm usually not one to leave negative reviews, especially for Japanese…read morerestaurants, but I feel like they have potential to do better -- which is why I wanted to leave an honest review. FYI -- no photos because we were busy with a cranky toddler. First, the service was genuinely great. The sweetest lady helped us with the menu and served our food, and we really appreciated her kindness. We were also given complimentary edamame, which was thoughtful, although it was bland, dry, and cold -- almost like it had been sitting in the fridge for a while. Since it was complimentary, we didn't think too much of it. For the mains, we ordered the beef teriyaki and chicken teriyaki bento specials. Unfortunately, both proteins were sliced extremely thin. The chicken especially had a jerky-like texture, and both the chicken and beef lacked flavor. After reading other reviews, they had similar experience. The teriyaki sauce itself was also pretty bland. The tempura was okay, but the tempura dipping sauce tasted watered down and lacked the usual savory depth you'd expect. The one standout was the roll topped with salmon and avocado with spicy tuna inside. It was presented beautifully and tasted fresh and well-balanced. Based on this, I honestly think rolls are what they do best. I really hope they improve the preparation and seasoning of the chicken and beef because it was a major turnoff -- and this is coming from someone who eats pretty much everything. It's hard to justify paying around $22 for a bento when the main protein feels flavorless and insubstantial. With so many good Japanese resto in Lake Forest, I would skip this until the proteins are fixed.

I'm really surprised at the low star reviews that I see here. My experience and meal was five star!…read moreThough, keep in mind that my five stars is based on dining here only once and not at peak hours. We arrived just after noon on a weekday. The restaurant wasn't busy and we were seated right away. The vibe inside was authentic feeling Japanese style, smallish with several tables and sushi bar seating. My chicken oyakodon was a bowl of cozy comfort to me. It was topped with two slices of yellow pickled daikon. I'm sure it was homemade daikon, not like what you get in a jar from Tokyo Central. We were served their delicious miso soup as a starter. My sister ordered beef teriyaki and tempura. She said it was good. The restaurant started filling up as we ate our meal. A good sign of good authentic Japanese is when you see a lot of Japanese/Asians filling up the place, especially older people (haha, like me), because you know they know well prepared authentic. And that's the crowd that was coming in. Located in a busy center with limited parking, it must get crazy busy later in the evening because the sign outside the entrance says where to form the line. Anyway, my oyakodon and miso soup was so good!
