As a liquor store connoisseur, this place is great. Surprisingly large selection of house hold items, huge Ben and Jerry's freezer, and incredibly friendly service. It's also very clean and they keep the crazies out (but let the classic SF eccentrics hang). The guys who work here are so chill I almost get a contact high just coming here. Come in, buy some necessities, shoot the breeze for a couple of minutes while they play sports on the big tv they have, and go about your day feeling good you supported a small local business. read more

How come every one of these places is stocked with little boxes of grits and Jiffy cornbread? Because these southern staples also happen to be stereotypical inner city peasant food? And the poverty-struck can't venture one block out of the Tenderloin to Calafoods or Safeway? They must purchase supper at the nearest liquor store because they are so poor that they can't even afford vaccines for polio and they can't even use their legs anymore and they must crawl to UN or Frank's Liquors or The Corner Market for tiny boxes of Soul Food? No. They don't sell. These boxes all expired in 1993. Take a look. read more

New management came in here and gave the UN market a minor facelift. They now have some nice beer specials, and most of the prices of items are comparable to other convenience stores in the area. I kinda miss the old guys that ran the place. The new guys are young whippersnappers with crooked baseball caps. I'd tell them to get off my lawn if I had a lawn. read more

As corner liquor/grocery stores in this neighborhood go, this one is very good. It's clean and well-organized, and the people who run it range from merely "courteous" to very friendly and pleasant. I saw one review saying that the reviewer had witnessed a "hate" crime against a gay man. I find that hard to believe-- there are lots of gay people who patronize this store, and they're not treated any differently from anyone else. Another reviewer claimed to have been attacked with a baseball bat by a store employee-- and all I can say is, "What the hell were YOU doing to bring that on?" Gotta remember, this is the upper edge of the Tenderloin, and drunks, junkies, and crazies abound-- and any nutcase can walk in, cause problems, get kicked out, and then post a negative review here. read more

I live across the street from this place, so naturally, it's my go-to liquor store. There's only so much you can review about a liquor store-- you spend at most five minutes in there, grab what you want and head out. Still, it's a pretty good five minutes for me every time I'm here. I've been to a lot of liquor stores in the area, and prices are pretty comparable to other stores, maybe even slightly cheaper. I'm always greeted with a hello, and my dog is given a treat on our way out. read more

The two guys who run this place are really nice. Whenever I need something and don't feel like walking up the hill, They've got me covered. Sure they don't have the biggest selection in the word, but anytime I realize that I forgot to get milk or cat food, I'm glad they are on my block. read more

I stopped by at UN Market the other day, on the corner of Post and Hyde, hoping to be able buy a special yogurt mixed with shallot for my wife who is pregnant and craving. He was out of the item. I asked if he would be getting a shipment or he's out for good. He said he used to carry that item but people don't come in anymore like they used to therefore it's not worth making the orders. Last time I was at UN Market, previously called Jahan Market, they had lots of specialty Middle Eastern favorites. I wish people would stop by now and then not only to support the locally owned business but also to make it possible for all of us customers to have a special place we could call ours to get those special ingredients. Okay, Between of 6:30 pm and 7:00 pm Sunday 5/27/2018. I'm not sure who runs this store. Normally I don't wear a T-shirt but today I did. I had on Cubs t-shirts on. Before I when to this store, I when to Walgreens first. I got three cans of soups and laundry soap from Walgreens plus with a receipt in the shopping bag that I had with me. In a long time but not first time tho. This Middle Eastern profile me just looking at me. I had been going to this store for three months and I never had any no problems before! Plus it's the same middle eastern man that I talk to before. Anyways I did pay a beer and then he told me he wants looks into my shopping bag. I did tell him I had a receipt including my items. He got pissed off at me and he told me doesn't care about my receipt! He said, "if you don't like my rules and then being your face here again!" I'm like okay, sure no problem. I'm American Native and so my ancestor was here first! Please young middle eastern man, go back to your country! I did forget, I do work for Twitter. "Whoop there it is!"
