This was my first time moving and using a moving company, and overall I had a very good experience. From the operator I spoke with on day one, to the origin service center in New York, to the customer service center in California, everyone I dealt with was professional, helpful, and knowledgeable. The truck drivers who loaded and unloaded my container were excellent--they answered all of my questions, provided clear timelines, and kept me updated with calls when they left the unit and when they arrived at my home. Their communication was always on point. The only downside was that my container was extremely dirty, almost as if it had been used to transport charcoal. Because of this, I strongly recommend wrapping items in blankets and stretch wrap to prevent them from getting stained. Unfortunately, my mattress cover was ripped during the move and ended up with black marks. Overall, the professionalism and communication stood out, but I do wish the container had been in better condition. read more

I used U-Pack trailer to move from New York to California and it was such a great option. I was impressed with their communication and process. They had great ideas (timing) and were flexible (to the point at which they could be) in a slight change in my schedule. The drivers who came to drop off and pick up, literally coast to coast, were friendly and professional. Both of my locations weren't ideal in that one had low wires and the other a condominium complex, but both drivers were awesome. I would be careful or thoughtful in the packing process. I hired movers on both ends and maybe my packers weren't the most experienced on packing a trailer. That is where I would be cautionary and diligent. It is a trailer. Nothing fancy. Packing blankets are a must. Sturdy boxes a must. Straps or cords a must. My stuff made it but it was in a precarious position when we opened trailer. The driver said "I've seen worse". Nothing was permanently damaged but some stuff a little more worn than when it started. Again, that was a packing issue NOT a U-Pack issue. I will definitely use U-Pack again. read more

Move truck across country 3000 miles according to estimate, slight delay in dropping off but one day compared to weeks which I've seen with other movers is nothing... Was able to track shipment across country (web interface could be improved showing complete track). Truckers who dropped trailer off and retrieved it were courteous and pleasant. No extra charges / upcharges. Was able to change date multiple times without a charge for packing trailer. Quite economical, clean and straightforward. Can't speak to doing a partial trailer load, but the bulkhead seems pretty secure and can be locked with your own locks... We filled the whole gosh darn 26 ft! read more

Everything was fine except not getting it there earlier. It actually took longer than stated.

We used U-Pack to move from NY to South Carolina. While it is a lot of work to pack it yourself, this was by far the cheapest alternative for us. We used 22 foot of the 28 foot trailer and it cost us a little over $3500 for the move. Using PODS would have cost us $5000. We used shrink wrap and blankets to protect the valuables, and so far have not found any breakage. We were happy with the company, and they were willing to work with us for a couple of extra days to empty the trailer at the receiving end. You have to coordinate with the local companies on both ends, but we found them both to be helpful as long as we kept good communication and made our needs clear. read more

We used U-Pack 20 years ago when we moved across the country. Had a positive experience then. Decided to use them again. This time a Relo-Cube from PA to AZ. We received unbelievable service from both originating and final destination centers. Every employee from customer service to the truck drivers was helpful, professional and courteous. Was it more expensive than other 'cube' services? Yes. It was. U-Haul was almost half the price, but I worked for them in the past. I would not trust them with anything I own. WE hate moving! The only thing that made this last move bearable was ABF. I am a lousy truck driver, I cannot imagine the years off my life if I tried hauling all our stuff 1,200 miles in a piece of junk rental truck. So stressful! And just imagine the trail of McDonald's Drive Thru canopies in my wake?! Pricing was much better than a rental truck plus fuel on this long distance haul; but the decrease in stress is the real selling point for me. I have made this move in a 24' box truck in bad weather before, it's a real nightmare and a big risk. Travel in a moving truck is uncomfortable, people drive like morons, and when you do stop for the night have fun trying to sleep knowing all your possessions are sitting in the hotel parking lot. ABF is awesome. Everything was exactly as advertised. The trailer was clean and delivered right on time. The drivers and depot staff I worked with were the best, very courteous and professional. The contents of the truck are insured. The few concerns I had were not an issue at all. For instance our driveway is on a slope, nothing too dramatic but a definite angle. The driver was able to park there no problem. The room/cargo calculator on the ABF website was surprisingly accurate. Just make sure you pack to the roof! Run to a Harbor Freight and pick up a bunch of moving pads (ABF does not rent them) and some ratchet straps, a roll of plastic wrap from Home Depot, giant trash bags and mattress bags from a UHaul store. Wrap your furniture in mattress pads then use plastic wrap to hold the pads in place. The trailers have rails to attach ratchet straps with hooks, tie the load in place as you pack to avoid shifting.You can also nail or screw blocks of wood to the floor to keep things from sliding around. The plywood "bulkhead" wall you put up to separate your items is not designed to hold the load, and it does not go all the way to the top of the trailer, there may be a 1-2 foot open space on top. Definitely put anything you don't want dirty/dusty in bags and cover your stuff with a tarp. Nothing was broken in the move. Nothing! The website allowed me to watch the trailer travel from stop to stop and anticipate the arrival date. The positive reviews for ABF are true, highly recommended. I hope I never have to move cross country again, but if I do this is the only way. read more

ABF / U-Pack were awesome. Just completed a 2000+ mile move and these guys made it easy. Everyone was totally professional and good natured, and the deal was no-nonsense. I paid exactly what they quoted up front. They don't baby you, you have to set up a heavy ramp and bulkhead doors in the trailer, so get help if you need it, but i still can't believe how smoothly the move went. I also quoted PODS and they wanted thousands more and would only deliver to a depot 125 miles from my home. U-pack was door to door. Grade AAA in my book! read more

I had 3 days to load, they picked it up and within 10 days had it at my destination and then had 3 days to unload. I moved from New York to Washington state and UPack was the best option for me. I was skeptical at first because I booked months out and theres always mixed moving stories you read but im SO HAPPY and relieved we went with upack. We saved a lot of money vs other companies i checked and had the freedom to pack how and when we wanted. I did my part and they did theirs. I followed their moving guide to a tee and all went smoothly. I called one business day before i wanted our trailer dropped off and they came and the ABF Truck driver who came was so helpful, he gave us all the info and tips we needed to know even helped us pull the ramp out which yes is heavy. We were able to load everything freely and were even lucky that they let us use these metal bars already in trailer to further secure our items. We called the day before we wanted it picked up and they came to pick it up the next day; we had trouble with our locks that didn't fit but both U-Pack and ABF helped to rectify the problem and even credited us for the locks. U-Pack billed us the amount as promised no haggling no surprises and that's really what I care about. We were also happily surprised when we opened our trailer at the new destination to find everything in one piece and as we placed it. They gave us sufficient time to unload everything and we really have no actual complaints the only thing would just be the anxiousness of waiting for our trailer to arrive and leave but they are busy company so it's understandable. I highly recommend and we'll use again should we move in the future! That is as long as they stick with ABF as their trucking vendor. read more

I had never heard of U-Pack, but after considering other options, I decided to go with U-Pack for my move from New York to California. I am extremely pleased with the whole experience. The company was 100% reliable, nothing broke during the move, and everything went as planned. As recommended, the containers were very tightly packed, which I am sure helped. I did not want my belongings right away, so I paid for my stuff to be stored for a few weeks and then they sent it out, when they said they would and delivered the 2 containers where we wanted, when we wanted them. The containers seem to be very solidly made, out of metal. I originally ordered 3, but only needed 2. My only complaint is that we noticed some water in the container that we did not end up using, as it had rained the night before we packed them. The other two stayed dry for about a month and were perfect. Nothing melted because of the heat. I would highly recommend U-Pack to anyone who is happy to pack their own stuff into containers and unpack them too, but save a lot of money in the process. read more

Hired local movers (Norman Brothers, Newburgh,NY) to pack, move, load 28' trailer at ABF terminal in Montgomery,NY.(used just under half of trailer). In Texas, used Gary's TLC Movers (Waco,TX), to unload ABF trailer delivered to my new home from Waco ABF terminal. UPACK's instructions, pricing, and contact info are concise. ABF terminal managers (Dirk in Montgomery, Brandon in Waco), were both available,courteous, and informative. Driver from Waco terminal was also informative and courteous. Highly recommend hiring local reputable PROS at each end to pack, load & unload instead of yourself. Then let UPACK/ABF go the distance! Pricing for all three vendors ( some packing myself) including tips, around $4000. A very good value for excellent service. read more

This was our 3rd long distance move. We just completed a move from Florida to New York back in December of 2016 and we used 2 POD containers which cost us $4,700. We planned on using PODS again to move back to Florida and this time around we were quoted at $6,800 going returning to the original destination. We decided to shop around and received several quotes from Professional moving companies and the quotes we received ranged from $7,000 - $8,000. We opted to use the ABF U-Pack 28' trailer and we paid $2,400. We hired professional movers to pack our truck for $600 and hired helpers at our final destination to unload the truck which cost us $350. Not only was the move economical but the experience was great! We paid a little extra to have a 2 hour window for drop of at the place of origin in New York but the driver arrived 15 minutes late and I was refunded that money and once we unloaded the truck at the final destination I called dispatch and they picked up the truck the very next morning. My credit card was not charged until the U-Pack Trailer was delivered to my final destination. I highly recommend U-Pack if you are looking for an economical move. I also did not have to worry about about some mover holding my belongings hostage because they miscalculated the amount of cubit feet of space used or the amount of weight.
