We used this company as they advertised that they move out of state. It was a total disaster and I blame the owner 100 percent as the staff was very kind. They took our entire contents of our house and said they would have it to us in about a week out of state. Well, turns out they emptied all of our stuff into their warehouse (I have photos from someone who sent them to me) and then used the truck for other moves...keeping our entire lives for a MONTH before we begged them to please bring it. Trucks broke down, can't find help...one line after another. Then, when it arrived they upped the price, asked for a cashier check or cash or wouldn't release..we were desperate and heart broken. Finally, we got our lives back and a broken large screen Mac Computer. It was one of the most disrespectful, unprofessional, lying business I have ever experienced. STAY AWAY! We used Your Hometown Mover LLC from New Paltz NY to move our furniture from upstate NY to Georgia. Although the crew was friendly and courteous we most definitely would not use them again and would most certainly not recommend them to anyone else. Our large Stickley Furniture $2500 dining room table, per the work order we received, was to have been dismantled at pickup and reassembled at delivery. Instead it was transported on it's 2 pedestal legs and at one point we witnessed one of the movers (not mentioning his name) standing on top of it to load boxes into the van. When the furniture arrived in GA both legs of the table were damaged. One of which was actually broken off of the table and not repairable. After many attempts to call, email and text the company to see what they were going to do to compensate us for the damaged furniture and very little response back we finally were asked to get a quote on what new pedestal legs would cost so they could present it to the claims department. We called the furniture company to see about having it replaced and unfortunately the Carriage House line of dining furniture we have is no longer being made but they quoted us $1500 each on another pedestal leg that they thought would work but not be an exact match. We gave the quote of $1500 per leg back to the moving company and waited for some action. The only response we got (which by the way was in October 2023 for a July 18th, 2023 move) was for us to file a claim which we had already done to no avail. Our suggestion to you who are looking for movers, do your thorough research and homework before hiring this company. They are not worth it. read more

I had a terrible experience with Your Hometown Mover and I strongly discourage anyone from using its services. Everything started out great. When we moved from our upstate house last summer, the crew seemed courteous and professional. They put our things in storage for a few months, until we moved into our new apartment in Brooklyn. When we moved in, many important items were damaged. The legs were broken on a jewelry cabinet. Lamps were cracked, bent, scratched and dented. A floor lamp was snapped in half. Some of these things were antiques and family heirlooms important to me. The movers confessed to me that the previous movers had placed a heavy air-conditioner ON TOP of a desk lamp! I was told to contact the third-party processor that handles these claims. I filled out forms and uploaded photographs--and never heard back from them. There was no phone number to call. I wrote to them again and got a form-letter response. I wrote again and got the same thing. All I wanted was some compensation for the money I had to shell out fixing the things they broke because of their own incompetence. I called James Schumacher from Your Hometown Mover and he said the matter was out of his hands and there was nothing he could do. I said surely he or some manager could contact the third-party processor to expedite my claim, but he threw up his hands and said he couldn't. How's that for dedication to customer satisfaction? I understand accidents happen and things can get damaged during a move. But these damages were the result of pure negligence, and Your Hometown Mover refused to take responsibility for this. I want to start out with my movers were absolutely wonderful people. If I can just hire them and not the company I would. This company "Your hometown mover LLC" charged me over $1,000 for studio side items. You know what they don't tell you, travel time. Travel time for at least an hour, come to you and back" is already $250. It gets better..... they charge you an arm and a leg for using their tapes, blankets and boxes. If I can remember, it was another $200 for supplies. I would not recommend whatsoever. Very expensive for a couple of boxes and 2 pieces of furniture. The crew was friendly and did an ok job. There was, however, damage to 4 pieces of furniture (ALTHOUGH I HAVE FOUND MORE DAMAGE AS I HAVE SETTLED INTO THE NEW HOUSE), one piece was actually dropped off the truck. So then I had to deal with the claims company., which was not easy and not fun. So here it is a month after my move and the claim for damage to both my furniture and brand new house is finally being processed, no idea what the outcome will be. UPDATE-THEY WILL NOT COMPENSATE FOR DAMAGE TO FURNITURE. More importantly, my move took 6 hours yet I was billed for 8, a difference of $440 plus tax. I have tried repeatedly to get this rectified with no success. I have been told multiple times, "We will get back to you," but so far that has not happened. I was assured at the outset that I would be charged an hourly rate based on time used, now I am told the overcharge is due to a glitch in their software, but bottom line, I'm out the $440, which to me is theft. I would not recommend this company. Update: They did not follow their own policy, did not compensate for damage, and per CSI (the claims company), they refused to abide by the settlement. It was my own fault...not reading the Yelp reviews before using these people. They actually did a reasonable job of carrying out the move and I could have been leaving a 5-star review BUT they broke my QLED TV by careless handling and, most importantly, failed to compensate me for the (less than $500) loss. Instead I was directed to their insurer who offered me a derisory $8 because the claim was based on weight. Silly me for not realizing that I had to insure against their mis-handling. Now I am having to commission another mover to compete stage 2 which is to move everything down to North Carolina. read more

The absolute worst experience with movers I have ever had. Do your research before you trust only the 5 star reviews, as I did. Once I removed my less-than-glowing review there was no meaningful follow up or anything as promised. I would argue these people spend more time getting less than 5 star reviews removed than actual follow up with problems. While closing a few offices over the course of a month to prepare for an extended hospital stay, I hired Your Hometown Movers to close up my last office, and hired them mainly because of their Yelp rating. When I called them, I got a sharp, articulate young man on the phone who was the owner, which immediately made me feel confident, and between this and their Yelp rating I hired them for the next day they were available because all I wanted was great people as I could not physically move much or lift anything at the time. All evidence pointed to some solid help and having my things moved and off my mind. I was sent two guys who worked for them as needed who were sent with the company's truck, one of them did NOT want to be there and made no effort to hide it, and this made the whole process a nightmare. Because of the limited space allowed here, I am removing a lot of the details of the actual problems, but suffice it to say that the movers that were sent out had no interest in moving anything unless it was in a huge box they could put on a dolly and load up with ease, regardless what was agreed to (in detail) with the owner before hand. They even had the nerve to tell me they didn't want to do the last bit of times, a stack of small windows I went into detail with the owner about when hiring them, and left that for me to do. By then I was afraid if I insisted, I'd end up with far more damage (from attitude, not normal handling) so I didn't argue with them. After several hours the move was over, with 3 out of my 4 best-you-can-buy chrome shelves ruined beyond repair (I ended up replacing them after trying to fix them with new wheels and corner poles) and I was still left keeping my Uhaul truck an extra day so I could go load and unload the rest of the smaller items and small windows myself until 3am (with torn stitches and exhaustion) because the "movers" didn't want to do it. Feeling completely misled, taken advantage of, and ripped off, I left a review with only factual details soon after, only to help someone else avoid the mess I ended up with and within 120 minutes I got a follow up email saying they were sorry there were problems, they wanted to fix it, etc etc etc. Being extremely reasonable, I took the review down immediately so as not to do any unnecessary damage to their reputation, assuming it was an honest problem with hired workers and so on. After all, they have almost all solid 5 star reviews, so I gave them the benefit of the doubt. Then I went through an endless run around about how things should be in a certain kind of box, and packed in a certain kind of way, and etc etc. It went from being my fault, to the boxes, to the workers, to having needed more people, to "how much would be fair as a partial refund" to "what is your address" then when I replied a week later that nothing arrived, it started over with "we have a claims process" with no follow up from previous emails, just more obstacles and putting-off of any resolution, and ZERO interest in fixing anything once the review was down. Just the cost of the replacement of the shelving (and not the time to go get them, build them, and my previous efforts to fix the old ones with new parts) went over $900 (something I sent photos and proof of in our correspondence) and that is not even including the damage to other items, my extra UHaul expenses, and the terrible pain (my stitches) of doing so much of the moving myself, both while they were there and after they left. I said if they'd just send $250 towards the damage, to simply have it over with and just so I knew I wasn't being completely blown off I'd be fine with that, after which he asked for my address, and then again, a long silence, nothing sent, and then he started over about a "claims process". It should be noted that I had the same stuff moved to the same place (but in an opposite direction) by 2 movers well into their 60's the year prior, with a smaller truck and making 2 trips, and that cost me $450 and no damage, where as Your Hometown Movers cost me $750 with a TON of aggravation and damage and additional expense. I honestly just want to help someone avoid the nightmare and endless time wasting emails I dealt with, which is why I reposted my review and after all, this is the whole point of Yelp. As you can see, below begins (again) the replies (just like last time) as if this is the first they're hearing about any problem, and they reply as if there's just some simple form to fill out, etc etc etc... so it looks like they care and are following up, and the nonsense and time wasting begins all over again. read more

My moving crew Andrew and Josh did an excellent job. They deserve 5 stars. They worked hard and went above and beyond the call of duty given the difficult situation that arose. When I booked my move on the phone, I explained that we were moving from a two bedroom condo in Brooklyn to a house upstate and that I had a small child and only two days to pack up our 2bd/2bath 950 sq foot apartment to prepare for the next tenants, so I would need full service move, including packing. While on the phone we went through every item in my home: furniture, closets, books, etc. On the day of the move, a crew of 3 young men arrived, including Andrew, the driver and head mover. After going through the house and explaining what needed to be done, I signed the paperwork, and he said he and his crew would grab the materials and be right back. After 45 minutes when they had still not returned, I got worried and called. He explained that the two young men did not want to do the packing and didn't realize it would be an all day job. The company asked if we could reschedule the move for the following day. I agreed and was very understanding, in spite of the inconvenience this caused my family. When I spoke to Jennifer on the phone she said that they would not charge me for the day and would try to add an additional mover to the team for the next day's move at no charge to make up for the inconvenience. Andrew had been on the phone with Kate and told me that since he had already driven all the way down they agreed that he should pack for a few hours while he was here to make the next day's move run smoothly and the company would pay his hourly fee, but I would not be charged to make up for the inconvenience of what had happened. He worked very hard for 4 hours and then left. There was some miscommunication on the administrative end and I was initially charged for Andrew's services on Sunday which was very upsetting. However, the owner Jake reached out to me and refunded me for that first day. I really appreciate his working to make things right. read more

Unfortunately, I had a horrible experience. The crew showed up completely unprepared for a 9 hour move. No safety gear, no moving gear with the exception of a hand dolly. While the crew was friendly, they didn't listen, and constantly had to be told what to do and where to go. They dropped boxes, threw boxes, overloaded the dolly to the point where boxes fell over. I had to ask them repeatedly to please be careful. They broke and scratched and furniture. Half way through moving us out, one of them disappeared to walk to a gas station. Then when they left to get lunch and go to the new house, they locked their kids in the truck. So they were an hour later than they were supposed to be. Then, they basically threw everything the middle of each room and left. When I complained, I received nothing but a "yeah that sounds like a shit show." Some customer service. For the cost of this move, I expected white glove service and I got a bunch of college students who couldn't have cared less. read more

I wish I had seen all these negative reviews before I hired Your Hometown Movers. They were the worst moving company I have ever used. They smashed my glass top dining table in the driveway, smashed my new tv in original box, broke couch legs off , dropped and scratched my dresser and desk and smashed my crystal glasses. Nothing was wrapped just loaded on the truck. When I spoke to the owner he assured me he would get me a new table top that was 4 months ago and he never followed through. During the move they kept asking me for more money because they were so slow. I think that is a money making tactic. I had enough and had to ask them to leave my stuff in garage and I would have my family help move us in. They were incapable of finishing the job after the original 6 hrs turned into 9. Jake the owner said he credit me 1 hour after speaking to crew who affirmed my story but he never refunded me. The insurance they make you use is a joke. It's 8:20 pm on the day of my scheduled move and I have not heard a peep from anyone at the company. I called yesterday to get a time frame, I was told between noon and 2:00pm they may even show up as early as 11:00am. This is totally understandable as moving is hard to time. I called at the end of the given time frame today, at 2:30pm, to get an update: the woman who answered the phone said she couldn't get a hold of anyone and took my number to have them call me. When I still hadn't heard anything by 6:30p I called back and the office was closed. The quote does state arrival between 8am and 8pm so giving them the benefit of the doubt I waited until 8pm. Not a single word. How could a company take a deposit, send confirmation emails and give you an estimated time frame then just not show up with no updates, no excuses, and certainly no apologies?? I don't even have the words to describe how I'm feeling about this. UPDATE: I did receive a call from the owner of the company on Monday and he was extremely apologetic informing me that there was a glitch with a new scheduling system they were using. He was understanding and didn't argue with me at all about refunding my deposit since I had already re-scheduled with another company. This is my second time using Your Hometown Mover. The first time was during a divorce and attributed the mess ups to my circumstances BUT used them again recently and they were very unprofessional. Sorry to say our lamp shades were smashed- put in boxes with snowshoes and tools. Our artwork was packed up except for one side that resulted in the wooden frame chipped. Our antique dressers are all chipped. I called the number for claims- they use a 3rd party and the process is meant to be a deterrent. We are beyond the 10 day limit as we were not here full time. The movers were not experienced maneuvering furniture through spaces. I normally would address this directly with the company first but considering their policies, I feel this is the appropriate way to handle this. I had a professional account with them, I am an interior designer and need furniture shipped. I will not use them again or recommend them. read more

I was quoted a price of $450 dollars to move my belongings from a place I was renting to a storage unit near a home I am buying. When all was said and done after the move, the total ended up being about $ 300 more than their initial quote. And they didn't end up moving some of my belongings, which I ended up renting a truck and moving myself. Their employees excuse for this was they had stuff on their truck from another shipment. Why would you show up to do a move with a truck that's not totally empty? I feel as if they lied about this and the truck was improperly loaded. I watched them drop my grill, ruining the cover. I was not impressed at the service I was provided given the price I paid. I should have realized something was off due to the fact the final payment had to be in cash. Only the deposit was allowed to be on a card. Sounds like they are avoiding paying taxes to me. I would never recommend their services to anyone looking for movers. EDIT- Jake from the company, replied to my poor review on their Facebook page calling it " harsh" and basically saying it's my problem that I didn't didn't proactively inquire about a change in price since the quote was given a few months prior and was given a line of excuses. After submitting inventory I received a quote the next day. Very good rates and much better than westchester prices. Team of three showed up and loaded my home. Very nice and friendly crew. Overall the move was average at best, but the rating would have been 3 stars if not for the poor customer service after the move. I especially had an issue trying to get a refund on $25 I paid for a plastic bag to protect the mattress. Despite the bag, the mattress and my own cover arrived quite dirty. I spoke to Kate, who was going to get back to me. A week later she has yet to do that. I just spoke to Jake, who wanted me to go through a claims process. I have given up on the $25. I don't have the time it seems it's going to take to resolve this. The guys were very courteous, but there were many bumps and careless handlings. I had Jake and his crew of 4 men move my belongings and they were very friendly, conscientious and considerate with my all of things. At one point they thought they had broken my TV (it was already broken) and they made sure to point it out to me, and were willing to take responsibility for the damage had it been their doing (which I reiterate was NOT their doing). They plastic wrapped my beds (included in fee), they provided wardrobe boxes (included in fee) and bundled together (with packing tape) metal racks which will make it so much easier for me when it comes time to put them together. And Rick was kind enough to bring me coffee in the morning, which was exactly what I needed. They were careful to clock their break time so I didn't get charged for it. And they all seemed to work great together. They worked steadily for over 12 hours, and they put my things exactly where I wanted it (even when I changed my mind a couple of times at midnight. Sorry guys!). I moved from a large house to a much smaller one with A LOT of boxes and too much furniture. My basement is on the small side, but one of the crew was able to arrange all of my stuff so EVERY box and furnishing is accessible! And he sectioned out a spot for my elliptical and treadmill!! Whoo Hoo! It was genius!! They didn't get 5 stars for two reasons. I was suppose to get a call before the move in case I had questions, but no call, and really this is just me being picky. The other is that it cost more than the top of their estimate (which I was told was pretty accurate), and I spent two days moving boxes on my own in my SUV, which I had hoped would help with the cost. It was a rainy Friday when they moved me, which I'm sure delayed things, and to be fair it WAS an estimate, but when you're moving every dollar counts when you're paying by the hour. This moving company is a scam, please do your research and get several quotes and don't waste your time or your money on this one. I was quoted $559 to move from a small 2 bedroom condo less than 1/16 of a mile away and given a 4 hour time window, and I ended up paying $834 for 5 hours. When I called to ask why the price was so high and that I was confused, the owner, Jake, told me he would call to speak with the movers and then he would call me back. He never did, I had to call him, and his explanation was that "he quoted me for an inventory list I provided of about 2,400 pounds, and his movers said it was well over 4,000 pounds". I was stunned. There was not a scale to weigh my things, I don't even see how that should have even been a factor for payment, considering I was paying by the hour and not by the pound, and the owner completely blew me off. My bedroom dresser mirror was not put back together properly, it looks as though it is going to fall over any second, ( half of the screws are missing), the side of the mirror is damaged, and when I called the mover on his cell phone to ask him where the screws where so I could put it back together myself, he said "he didn't put the mirror back together, another mover did, he would ask him", and again, no one called me back. The heating board cover where they placed my server in front of is broken in half. I went ahead and called the furniture company for the screws and called my landlord about the heater cover. I will submit a bill to the owner Jake, but I doubt I'll be reimbursed. They require final payment in cash or a bank check, but will gladly accept the deposit on any credit card-clue number one that there's something wrong, please listen to your instincts and save yourself the aggravation, time, and money. read more

Having recently moved my family from Newburgh to Middletown, I looked into a few options for the move. All of them were around the same price, for the same service. I chose to use "Your Hometown Mover", largely because of the pleasant customer service I received in the estimate process. The day of the move came and the van and laborers showed up within the window of time quoted. I was impressed with the amount of effort that the crew was putting out. There was not much downtime taken or breaks. They were hustling and I was quite pleased with what I was observing. They were very nice and personable. We were given an afternoon appointment. This means that the team had done an earlier morning appointment prior to ours. They still had energy in the beginning of the move, but you could clearly see the fatigue setting in towards the end. I cannot blame them. It is tough work. So why the two-star review, you ask? After they had completed moving my belongings into the new house and "setup" the beds, I gladly tipped them and sent them along their way. My main goal was to have my children's rooms roughly set up and their beds together, so that they could get a good nights rest. We went out to eat, exhausted, and later came back home. My daughter observed that her bed did not seem the same. At first she thought that they had put on my son's mattress. She went to exchange the mattress, and that is when we noticed the bed was not put together right. Half of the bolts were missing that should have held the bottom frame to the sides. I could see that the person who put it together realized after putting the left bolts in that there were none left for the right side. ONE bolt was taken from the left and put in the front of the right side, and the rest of the frame was carefully placed as to hold itself up. There was literally no support on the back right half and only one bolt up front on that side. Had my daughter decided to "crash" into bed, and not notice that something was not quite right, she would have literally destroyed the bed and frame and possibly scratch up the wood floor in the new rental. Needless to say I was livid. How does someone knowingly do something like that. This was not a mistake or an oversight. This was someone too afraid to have an uncomfortable conversation at the end of a job. No mention was made of the missing bolts. If there was communication and an offer to come back to fix it, I would have been satisfied. Things happen, and I understand that. Leaving my child open to possible injury and us upon to possible liability is completely unacceptable. I left a couple of messages the very next morning. I finally received a call from a nice gentleman who seemed as if he wanted to help. They could not come and fix my daughters bed that day and did not show up the day after either. They finally showed up the third day after the move to "fix" the bed. The crew gave me a smaller window of arrival, as I was taking my lunch break to meet them. They were late. They "fixed" the bed with some generic long bolts from the hardware store and were along their way. My own bed is also loose and I had to go back through the frame to tighten all the screws and bolts. Long story short, consider all options before deciding on this company. They seemed like the right choice at the time, but I cannot recommend their services to anyone. You are only as good as your help, and if your help has the audacity to leave children open to injury and your property open to damage then they are not worth any price. All the "good" work they had done was completely erased by the unforgivable decisions made at the end and their lackluster corrective attempts. Mover beware! read more

worth every penny. the crew (3) worked hard for 8 hours straight for our move out of NYC. they even moved our piano. nothing broken. everything arrived. we could relax and unpack after moving day - we weren't exhausted from the haul. it would have taken us a week to do what these guys did in a day jake was very friendly and available and the crew was very polite and hardworking. I am writing this review a year later as I was too upset to do so last year. Last year, I was 5 months pregnant and looking to move the contents of our condo in Rockland County to our house in the New Paltz area. I spoke with the owner, Jake, who seemed like a very nice and compassionate business man. Well, to make the long story short, I was quoted one price and charged over $400 more the day of the move. My husband was with the movers and I was at work when I called to discuss the discrepancy. Jake was EXTREMELY rude, refused to work with me other than refunding a half hour of labor and stated, "I have other things to do" when trying to rush me off the phone. He insulted my intelligence, mislead us and in my opinion, is a thief! Do yourselves a favor and STAY AWAY! I'd never been so upset dealing with a business matter and was trying my best to keep calm as I didn't want to cause undue stress while being pregnant (which Jake knew).
