We used U-Pack / ABF to move from Northern California to Massachusetts. The process was fairly easy and low-stress! Our relocube shipped from Sacramento in June and arrived about 10 days after. We had a unique situation where we were relying on our landlord/movers before we could move-in, but we were easily able to schedule our unloading time with Phil. Upon arrival, Tyler was very friendly and walked us through the yard to our cube. We had minimal damage to our items: - a scratched dresser that wasn't wrapped completely (our fault) - broken glass on an end table that wasn't protected (also our fault) - some random glass belongings inside boxes We did purchase the insurance, but as the representative told us, the best insurance is to pack your items properly. Well, the process went super smooth and the customer service was epic. Easy to work with and relieved the stress of moving cross country. The bulk head and charging you only what space you take was easy. Work on the ramp, it was to perforated to move anything with wheels. We ended up renting a forklift thru United Rental which was also the smartest thing to do when packing. We packed the UPACK in less than three hours using a pallet to assist. I moved family furniture from the East Coast to the West Coast. It was a small load that we prepared and loaded. The team kept us informed regarding the trailer drop off (neglected to include ramp), was responsive, polite and quickly corrected the lack of ramp. It shipped as indicated, again communicating drop off time, location. The driver explained how to remove loadbar and ramp. Loadbar was bent but they quickly sent a driver to assist. To my great amazement, all of the stuff I shipped from Boston to Berkeley with U-Pack arrived completely unscathed, exactly as I had packed it up, with zero damage... in exactly 10 days after the cube was picked up. After reading reviews online of the various moving companies, it seemed like every option would lead to damaged or late items. However, U-Pack managed to ship everything perfectly safely. Plus, it was cheap ($1750), and easy. The drivers were also very courteous and helpful. The only downside is that if you don't have a driveway, you will have to contact your city to obtain a moving container permit for the street. This has to be done about a week or 10 days in advance, and can be a bit of a hassle. It also cost about $200 in each place. read more

Initial sales call and delivery drivers were great. When it came time to pick up the location and drop a second location (our new house) got a standard text saying pick up date was rescheduled. Multiple calls to reservations number where after being on hold, often for several minutes, representative could not reach "facility" and all was due to truck breaking down. Our container sat on our former property for 2 extra days, Inconveniencing the new homeowners. Eventually was offered a $25 credit ( waived pick up fee) gee- thanks... understand truck issues happen but lack of communication and "beyond our control" response from a rep not at/associated with specific facility during a naturally stressful time... was disheartening. read more

My girlfriend & I just moved from Massachusetts to Seattle through U-Pack and we were told that it would take 6-8 business days for our cube to arrive in Seattle. After a 12-day road trip across the country, we called for our cube to be dropped off at our new apartment. We were told that the company literally had NO idea where our cube was. This was Friday, and OF COURSE, they're not open on weekends. We called them on Monday and they still didn't know where it was. We called them on Tuesday and they still didn't know where it was. Finally, later that day, a woman from the company called us and told us the cube had been sitting in Dayton, OH since the first day of its shipment. (Just to make things worse, we drove to Dayton the first day of our road trip.) We were told that the cube wouldn't arrive until the next Monday, 21 days after it had been originally picked up, a full 14 business days from when it was supposed to arrive. Not only did we not have furniture in our new apartment for 2 weeks (including our bed--at least our floors are comfortable to sleep on), we didn't have anything to cook with, so we were forced to buy things out of pocket which we had already packed in the cube, and the woman told us that we would not be compensated for those out of pocket expenses. Nor would we be compensated for the extra storage we purchased because we thought the cube would beat us by a whole week, which it clearly did not, and we clearly had no use for. We also lost our moving help because we had friends in the area the day we planned to move in on. We were told that they would not be offerring us complementary moving help. They offered us less than 25% of what we paid for the move, which was well over $2000, not even enough to cover HALF of a month's rent. All in all, I have felt 0% satisfaction from this company even though they boast a 100% customer satisfaction guarantee. If you DO plan on moving with this company, I sincerely hope you choose U-Pack Guaranteed which we were told would have given us a full refund, however, we weren't even offered this feature to begin with. Great salesmanship. Final words: U-Pack WILL screw you over if you are looking for any kind of refund so when you make the call, assume the position. read more

We had a HORRIBLE experience moving. We chose ABF U-Pack to save money on our long move from Denver to Boston and it wasn't worth the savings. Our Cubes were not picked up as scheduled in Denver even though we called as expected; in fact, they sat on the street for a week with no-one at dispatch wondering about them or calling us about them. Then when we called to get them delivered to our new home, there was no record of them. We talked to the corporate office and they assured us that they would get the delivery expedited and keep a watch on it. However, the corporate office never called us so we only got information when we called them. We were told they would try to get us the cubes by a week after expected and I assumed they would schedule the deliver. So when we called on the Monday of expected delivery, I was surprised that the dispatcher said they couldn't schedule anything until the next day. Unfortunately, we are heading out of town for a week for work and, therefore, can't unload the cubes if they aren't delivered today. Now we have to wait another 10 days before we can get our things delivered and have to attend a work conference with only traveling clothes. Additionally, the corporate office acknowledges that it was their mistake but the compensation for our trouble is paltry and the continued delays and lack of communication are not acknowledged. Everyone in customer service I have spoken with has been kind but their kindness is only useful if something gets done. read more

I used this company in 2011 to get from Berkeley, CA to CT, then again from Boston, MA to San Francisco, CA just this past month. They win on so many levels: 1. Far and away the most cost effective option to ship a pod of stuff - PODS and Door to Door all quoted me at least $500 - $1k higher for the move 2. They give you the opportunity to save even more $ via terminal to terminal shipping, if you don't want door to door 3. You get clear, comprehensive moving plans / documents via email confirming your move and then again a few days before your move - everything is electronic and clearly outlines critical info (e.g., originating terminal information, order #, etc.) 4. They seamlessly allow you to make changes to your move, even switching from a terminal move to a door delivery, even after your pod has already shipped! 5. They are zippy - 6 days for my stuff to arrive cross-country 6. You can always talk to a live person about your move - quickly and easily Tip - ask if there's any online discount or similar and they often can take of $50 or so (or help find a coupon or something to save) Their delivery is smooth, timely, and careful. If you want to ship a pod of stuff as cheaply as possible across the country, this is the company to use. read more

We recently moved from Boston to San Francisco without long-term housing pre-arranged so we needed to not only move but also store our goods indefinitely. Naturally I was hesitant about choosing our service - you here plenty of horror stories about movers damaging or losing your goods, or just up-charging once they have all your stuff. We narrowed down our list to U-Pack and PODs based on the quality of their reviews and ended up going with U-Pack on price (better deal for storage in particular). They delivered an empty container in our driveway in Boston, picked it up a few days later, moved it across the country and kept it in their storage facility for two months, and then delivered it outside our new apartment in San Francisco a few days ago. Now that we've emptied the container and gone through all of our completely undamaged things I am happy to say that I couldn't recommend U-Pack strongly enough. Every time I called them I got through to a human operator immediately. They helped me understand and work with their pricing. Their drivers were communicative, courteous, and on-time without fail. They even handled the street permitting for the container in San Francisco. And not a single unexpected charge. We had a lovely experience moving our studio apartment from Boston to SC with ABF U-Pack! Obviously, the extremely competitive price was a huge factor in our decision to go with ABF, but the customer service sealed the deal. The national representative we worked with to make our reservation (Daniel Hobbs) was incredibly helpful in answering all of our questions and concerns before we decided to use ABF and continued to be wonderful throughout the moving process. At the last minute (literally the day of the move!), we had to change the delivery address and get movers to help unload everything in SC - Daniel coordinated it flawlessly. In addition, the driver of the moving truck was also very helpful. Someone had illegally parked in the spaces we had reserved with the City of Boston - We were unable to have the vehicle towed in a timely manner, but the driver was extremely flexible and worked with us to come up with an alternative arrangement. I would recommend to Boston folks that you try to get your moving permit for 3 parking spaces, rather than 2. The folks at City Hall say that 2 spots is enough for a 28-foot commercial truck, but for our street (St. Germain in Back Bay) it was a really really tight squeeze - even if we would have gotten the car towed in time, the 2 spots would not have been enough - we ended up loading in a commercial loading zone up the street. We would definitely use and recommend ABF U-Pack in the future! read more

From my initial contact on the phone with a U Pack representative, through my phone contact with the local trucking company ( ABF Trucking), everything was Great! The trucking company was excellent...they showed up on time, dropped my trailer off exactly where I needed it, the driver was friendly, helpful, went the extra mile. U Pack charged me VERY fair rate to move from here in the Boston area to the Nashville area. From the first email and follow up phone call with UPACK every step after went smoothly. Arranged for a cube to be delivered to our **condo parking spot on a Monday, the Bridgewater office called Friday to confirm. On Monday the driver called to give me a 45 minute arrival time which was in the window that I had booked. Someone must be there to receive the cube. He used a small fork lift to transfer the cube from flat bed truck to the parking spot. The cube is about the the width and 1/2 the length of a standard car; cars could easily park on either side. You do have to be present when the cube is delivered to sign, etc. Also, make sure you have a lock. We loaded the furniture and boxes, making sure everything was covered and tied down to. Covered because we did not want the furniture to get scratched, and tied down because of the obvious: the packed cube will be transported to truck, unloaded at local warehouse, reloaded on large truck, then transported to destination warehouse and unloaded, reloaded onto smaller truck to deliver to your door... so it is very likely that items are going to shift if not secured with ropes or bungee cords. They do sell a "packing" package which is reasonably priced, but we already had ropes, moving blankets. On Tuesday I called Bridgewater to arrange for a Wednesday afternoon pick up. You do not have to be there for pick up, just make sure your cube is locked. We got a call the following Monday that the cube was at the Manassas, VA location and we scheduled for it to be delivered Thursday. Someone has to be there to make sure it is the right cube (they are numbered on outside) and sign off on it. Everything was intact. Nothing shifted. Nor was anything wet. The cube was unoacked Friday, but they do not pick up cubes on Saturday or Sunday so they came Monday. Again, you did not have to be there when they picked it up. Just make sure it is broom clean and you have taken your lock off. All in all it was a very easy process. For the few pieces of furniture and boxes we needed to get from MA to DC, the UPACK cost was less expensive than had we rented 10' Uhaul and driven 900 miles round trip which would gas, tolls, 1 night hotel, food. ** make sure you know the parking rules of condos/aparments/town street for a storage container Highly, highly recommend UPACK! read more

Thursday night, U-pack moving dropped off someones' cube outside of my friend's apartment building. There are a couple of parking spaces outside of her complex for visitors. This night they were all full, except for the handicap spot. So U-pack dropped the cube in the handicap parking space!!! I think that is absolutely disgusting behavior! read more

Almost five stars. The pick-up went perfectly in Seattle. Timing was as promised and the driver was awesome. We opted to have our stuff stored on the other end as we weren't sure when we'd reach the area after driving cross country. We should have provided a final address with the original quote. We had hoped to get our cube dropped off in Sagamore after we arrived but were informed that the West Bridgewater distribution center doesn't deliver cubes outside of a very specific area. Being one mile out south of Plymouth was a no-go. We were informed that we were in the Seekonk distribution center's area and they could move the cubes to Seekonk, but that Seekonk doesn't deliver cubes door-to-door at all!?!?!?! So why did it matter if West Bridgewater brought them to our door?? Made no sense at all to us. So lesson learned too late. Be very specific about where you ultimately want the cubes to be delivered to your door or else you may end up having to move your stuff into a closer storage unit, or hiring movers to help you retrieve them from the distribution center. All that said, our stuff did arrive safely, with minimal wear and tear, and we were overall very happy with our choice. We did have a very nice guy try to help us get the cubes delivered but to no avail. I forget his name now, but he provided us very good customer service. 1. I was fine with them overall. I have one complaint (see below) only. 2. My complaint is that the bars for the bulkhead doors in the trailers have holes that are too small for ANY lock that has a 2in long shank. I spent too much time and money to find that out the hard way. The company even admitted that is the case when I called them about it. So, my bulkhead doors had nothing stopping someone from opening them. Everything was fine, though. Nothing was stolen or obviously messed with. Freight goes in after our stuff. So, no one would ever see or be able to get to that stuff outside of the people loading and unloading the freight. 3. I moved out of Boston and the driver expertly backed the trailer into a narrow driveway on a narrow street. No problem! 4. They're a freight company. They have deliveries. I understand their windows of delivery and in my case being late in Boston. Driving in a car there is hard enough. Good luck in a truck. 5. We hired Upack to move our entire house from SoCal to NH. They delivered our 27' trailer and over the next 4 days we packed it tighter than tight. Upack picked it up and we drove our cars across the country. It was great not to have to drive a Uhaul or Ryder truck across the country at 55 MPH, and the price difference was negligible. The trailer was delivered to our new house right on time and the moving help they contracted worked great (see Real Deal Van Lines for my review of their help). I would highly recommend Upack for your long distance moving needs. FYI... of course we all rely on our family or buddies to help us move... forget that! Hire some professional moving guys. I will NEVER move again without 2 or 3 pros helping me out. I used ABF U-Pack to move from Denver to the Boston area as I had previously used the service to move in the past with good success. This time the cube drop-off and pick-up in Denver went well as did the transit to Massachusetts. However, when the 2 ReloCubes were delivered to me in Massachusetts, the forklift that was used caused driveway damage that cost $500 to repair. The claim to pay for this was denied by ABF and thus I am stuck with paying for the repair on my own. Unfortunately the contract you sign with them essentially frees them for any responsibility from any damage they cause delivering the cube. It is true that I had agreed to the terms of the contract and formally they are in the right. However, it is poor practice for ABF not to be liable for damage that was obviously caused by them and thus I have to put in this poor review. read more

I'm pretty sure this is the ABF branch we dealt with for our move from Boston to IL. Even if it's not, ABF as a company was fantastic to deal with. They dropped off our pods when we needed them to, they picked them up right when they said they would. Then once we got to IL, the branch on that end bent over backwards to deliver our pods to us in a timely manner. I called up around 9 in the morning asking them to deliver our pods and the man on the phone apologized to me and said that they couldn't possibly get them to us until that afternoon. Worked out great. We had a small row boat, dinning room set and a few various things to ship to my daughter in Seattle. We weren't sure how much room we would need, and it allowed us to use only the space we needed and pack things tightly so nothing got broken. Other companies only had 16 foot units for cross country moves and we only ended up using 5 feet. My daughter on the other end was very pleased with how accomdating they were on the delivery end, as she had a tight schedule and had to do a live unload due to the street and driveway. read more

I went with UPack because it was $100 cheaper than POD because I could get a smaller container. The service on the Washington DC end was fine, although their window of drop-off was 4 hours and they came in the last hour. Unfortunately, the Brockton distribution side was way worse. I was able to track my container online through the Upack website so I knew exactly when they received it on Wednesday but the woman in charge of distribution, Heather, (a) doesn't show up to work until 10:30am and (b) kept denying they had it. Then she finally confessed on Thursday when it was supposed to be dropped off on Friday that there would be a delay because they only have one handtruck to move the containers and it was broken indefinitely. They ordered a new one that was coming Monday. Since I paid $160 dollars for parking permits because they don't drop off on the weekends, I was annoyed. I didn't pay the extra $100 to Upack to guaruntee a delivery date, so they didn't seem too motivated to work to the estimated schedule they had provided. They at least added an extra service for free on Monday that allowed me 1 hour to unpack the container so they could take it away before my permits expired. The drivers on both ends were courteous and understanding, but I think you get what you pay for as far as business infrastructure and service. For the $900 it costs to do this kind of moving solution, I wish for better service overall. read more

U PACK PAYS 10 CENTS PER POUND FOR FREIGHT THAT THEY RUIN. You agree to this in the service agreement. The truck moving my stuff flooded, everything I own is ruined. ABF agreed that they were responsible for ruining my stuff, but they paid 30 dollars for the coach. It was such a joke, I'm so angry at myself for not noticing this in the liability statement. I am posting about it so other are aware, IF U PACK RUINS YOUR STUFF, AS THEY DID TO MINE, THEY WILL PAY YOU PENNIES FOR ALL YOUR EARTHLY BELONGINGS. They have the highest rate in the industry for settling claims. You know what that means? They ruin stuff regularly and pay 10 center per pound for it. (Also, when you have the deal with ABF for scheduling the truck rather than U-Pack, their customer service is a joke, but that's basically irrelevant after they ruining thousands of dollars of my stuff and paid me nothing for it.) read more

Great experience! They were outstanding on our August move to California...professional, on time, reliable, knowledgeable, and just plain nice. Our goods were delivered in perfect condition in two fully loaded relo cubes. We looked into the competitors and were so turned off by their horrible reviews. The favorable reviews for ABF steered us in their direction and we would not hesitate to use them again. We are typically disappointed by movers breaking things, not showing up, being rude; it was great not to deal with a moving van line and the awful service associated with them.
