First time ever going to a dermatologist, last time I will ever go here. First red flag, the woman in reception who answered when I called to schedule the appt, was the rudest I've ever encountered in a medical practice. I almost called back to ask to talk with the office manager to complain but I decided maybe she was just having a bad day. She repeatedly tried to get me to not book an appointment even though I had a referral and insurance that was valid at her location. She kept telling me that I didn't have a pre-authorization which I did have and that's how I knew to call and book the appointment in the first place. Second red flag. When I show up to my appointment, the man wearing crazy contact lenses at the front desk was incredibly dismissive monotone and just acted like he didn't wanna be there and already made me feel like I was unconvincing him by checking in. What the hell are we even selling at this place if no one wants to work here or help people. And the final red flag, which was kind of like the end all be all, was Dr. Breck Thrash literally came into the room for less than five minutes, didn't ask a ton of questions but made assumptions right off the bat so I don't even know if the solution he gave was legitimate or that he just didn't fucking care. My main concern was never addressed and I was instructed to go to Costco and buy a shit ton of Zyrtec and take 5+ a day... he was not even specific. A whole building staffed with the most unprofessional and non-patient care oriented people I've ever met. You could get better help walking into a Walgreens and asking the cashier what products to use on your skin. read more

It took me 40 minutes to get here due to the bad traffic in dallas, where it is usually a 20 minute drive. I tried to call twice on the way and clicked the option to speak to FRONT DESK, but there was no answer. Therefore, I was 8 minutes late for check in so they told me they had to reschedule since a full body general appointment takes "too long" for the last appointment of the day. Dr Thrash gives a very detailed skin cancer exam. I've had blue light treatments several times before and they were very painful. I was given a personal fan that did nothing to help the burning. Dr. Thrash's staff brought in a portable air conditioner when I had my blue light treatment which made such a difference in the level of pain. I would highly recommend Dr. Thrash! read more

Please go elsewhere for your dermatology needs. My wife went here for a basic mole removal, and they did an absolute terrible job removing, where she now has a huge scar for something so small. Then they have the audacity to send over 500$ in bills for the mole removal. After complaining, they said they will send us to collections if we don't pay. This was one of the worst experiences I've ever had with a doctors office. Went in for my first visit and was prescribed medication. When I tried to contact my doctor about questions I had regarding my medication, no one ever called me back. After three voicemails and no response I made an appointment with a new practice. One word--actually one Doctor. Dr. Thrash! Seriously the most gentle & amazing Dr. I have ever met. He was quickly honest to me & after 15 years battling the occasional acne flair up; he recommended absorica isotretinoin for my particular "hideous" flair up at the age of 36! I mumble words incorrectly & he will finish my sentence with what I'm trying to convey. My friend who saw my depression insisted I see him. I was not in the mood to deal with another RX. Honestly had forgotten about Absorica...Accutane related drugs! But Dr. Thrash is like a trendy wizard you never thought existed!! I love going to see him. I had no issues with my Absorica & my face is clear! They always handled all of my rescheduling request. The office is clean, staff is friendly ALWAYS! AFTER INSURANCE, my total bill was about $400, plus another $250 from the pathology lab to make sure a freckle wasn't malignant. The pricing was not at all transparent, and absolutely not worth it (the plantar removal didn't work, and now I have to go somewhere else to get it redone. Thanks). read more

Dr Thrash is my favorite doctor ever. He's super nice and very approachable. He would sit there and answer all your questions. I have had skin problems for a long time and I've been to a lot of dermatologist and some named as the top dermatologist by D magazine and all that. Dr Thrash gave me a very honest opinion on my skin and started me on treatments that is best for me. He's very thorough and the nurses in the office are super nice too. They return your calls all the time even if it's a silly question. If you're a person who's been dealing with adult acne I highly recommend Dr Thrash. read more

I can not recommend Dr. Wolthoff enough. First of all, the entire office staff is very friendly and it is a beautiful office. I only waited 5 minutes before I was taken back to see the doctor (we all know how rare that is!) Dr. Wolthoff did my bi-annual skin check and helped me with my acne. She noticed two suspicious moles that the dermatologist at North Dallas Derm did not. She really listened to what I was trying to accomplish and my skin concerns and spent time with me explaining different Rx options and even options from the drugstore. So happy I finally found a dermatologist I can trust in Dallas! read more

I called to make an appointment ASAP for a possible skin allergy. I explained everything over the phone and the woman was very nice, made sure my insurance was compatible and got me in the very next morning. The office is beautiful, in a very beautiful building in a nice area. The rest was awful. John Proffitt lived up to his name as he did absolutely nothing for me, but sure did take my money. He hardly said anything to me. I ended up doing much talking, not because he let me, but because I was trying to get something out of the visit. I had dry itchy skin that would come and go since I moved to north texas, I couldn't figure it out. That was the whole reason to go to a dermatologist. I also had moles I wanted removed. He seemed just as stumped as I was about my skin, but didn't seem concerned at all. He agreed with me I needed testing done on my skin to see what my allergies were, and admitted he could do that there, but he didn't think my insurance would pay for it all, so I should see someone else. He didn't suggest who, I had to ask him who he would suggests. He seemed like he was all done after that 5 minute chat. I couldn't believe it. I asked him, what about removing those moles? "Oh, they look fine." All that nothing and waste of my time cost me a $50 copay and my insurance $124. Oh, and the cherry on top? I was parked halfway up their parking garage, but all the spots said reserved. I kept looking, but it seemed they all said reserved. I left plenty of empty spots. When I left, I didn't realize someone put a big orange cone right behind my car, it was just small enough to stay out of my mirror, but big enough that it got wedged under my car when I backed up. I had get crawl under my car and yank on it until it came loose. Thanks. Thanks a lot. You get two stars for your big, beautiful office. Edit: I received word back from my insurance saying they over charged me, my copay was only $40. They said his office was informed of the $40, so they don't know why I was charged $50 and I need to talk to them about crediting me back. read more

I had been seeing the same dermatologist for 33 years, who retired at 86 years old. Needless to say, I had pretty high expectations. Great doctors are virtually impossible to find. I have a myriad of health problems, but this did not deter Dr Wolthoff. She is kind, compassionate and unafraid to go outside of her comfort zone to help someone. If all of my physicians were like her...I would be in a much better place. She even pulled some strings to get me in with another doctor who had a nine month waiting list. Thanks to Dr Wolthoff, my wait was only two weeks. I would recommend her to anyone looking for a dermatologist. read more

I called in thought i was talking to someone in the office, but it was a call center. I made an appointment. I got a call said "hello" several times with no response. Several days later I got a text to confirm the appointment. (Now i am a truck driver) When I got to Dallas the afternoon before the 840 am appointment i got a call telling me that Dr Patel whom i have no idea of does not take my insurance. However the other partner does. Here is the kicker there is no room for scheduling with the partner who does, with my scheduled appointment. I visited Dr. Proffitt because of my horribly chapped lips. I had been dealing with this issue for years, and it had only gotten worse as of recently. I figured I had nothing to lose by seeing a dermatologist to see if anything could be done to help me. Booking was easy...I did it online, and their office called the day before to remind me, too. Their building is on the corner of Lemmon and Oak Lawn, which was easy to find. They have a convenient parking garage attached to the building, too. I went up the elevator and walked into their office, which was quiet and very cozy (without being grandma-ish). The gal at the desk was friendly, and she handed me some forms to fill out before I went back to see the doctor. In fact, it was the doctor himself who called me back for my appointment. (That's rare these days) I found Dr. Proffitt's chairside manners to be very pleasant. He allowed me to ask all the questions I wanted, and looked at the ingredient list of every lip remedy I brought in that I had already tried. He was gentle but very efficient. I was in and out in 20 minutes, prescription in hand. The medication he prescribed has made things better somewhat, but I have a follow up soon to check my progress. I liked him a lot - would definitely drop his name to anyone looking for a good derm! read more

Dr. Walthoff is great! Very personable, understanding, good listener. She gets all 5 stars! Excellent care! The only downside is the practice does business with DFW Wellness pharmacy which was a terrible experience, they have chronic delays on meds, pricey, and I Received prescribed medication or no medication in a sealed pump container (med should not be in a pump version) that was impossible to access. Pharmacy refused to Replace the item and refused to refund. Unfortunately it was a total waste of money and the worst is that in an URGENT situation I could not access the medication. For their own reputation I would suggest to reconsider who they do business with! Otherwise dr. Walthoff is an amazing doctor. If you get prescription med please make sure to use your own pharmacy or Walgreens! read more

Be aware, this place will send you to collection for $30 dollars without sending you an invoice or making a phone call. I had a visit back in September last year. I had great insurance at the time and already hit my maximum out-of-pocket since my husband had two surgeries. Before I left their facility, I specifically asked whether I need to make any payment. The front desk told me no because my insurance will pay it all. Nine months later, when I am checking my credit report in preparation for getting a new vehicle, I noticed a collection record on my report from them, for $30 dollars. Are you freaking serious??? I never had any late payment on anything, not to mention a collection record. And...in the stupid amount of $30. I never received any bills or phone calls from them informing me I owe a balance, or explaining to me why my insurance didn't make the full payment. The next thing I know I got a collection on my credit. I filed a dispute with Equifax and I am beyond mad and upset. read more

This is the worst excuse for a Dermatologist office I have ever seen. They practices are completely unscrupulous. STAY AWAY, RUN as fast as you can. I came in for a spot on my ankle. Dr. Thrash said he wanted to biopsy it so he could do a proper diagnosis. FINE. I got a bill for $3125.00 from the lab. Thank GOD I had insurance. They paid $2472.00 towards the bill. My portion is $653.00 Don't you think that is a bit excessive for a small spot on an ankle. I was NO WAY told the bill would be that much. When I complained the office manager said Dr. Thrash had no control over the testing of the biopsy once it left the lab and that ProPath laboratories stands by what they billed. I disagree, that is why they call him a DR. He definitely can tell them what tests he wants for the biopsy. I think they are receiving a kickback from ProPath Laboratories. On top of that the office visit is almost $200.00. REALLY that is ridiculous. My insurance company told me they overcharge. My co pay is $40.00. The only reason I went there in the first place is I could literally walk there from my home. If I had known all of this I would NOT have darkened the door. I am returning to DR. Jennifer Cather at Modern Dermatology. Excellent office. Very Professional and they don't overbill. read more

Dr Wolthoff is amazing first and foremost. I don't often review doctor offices and/or hospitals on Yelp because there are other avenues for that. However, Dr Wolthoff and the staff at Highland Dermatology are pretty great. You can definitely come here for the more cosmetic spectrum as well as the medical spectrum. I was very happy with my first new patient appointment with Dr Thrash! The staff is friendly and the office is very nice. I have never needed to go to the derm before since my skin is very clear but I had a few dry spots on my face that started to appear over the past couple of months. Of course they cleared up before my visit but Dr Thrash knew exactly where to start with treatments just based on my description. He also made sure that I only needed to use medication that was absolutely needed and not too expensive. I have always had clear skin, up until one year ago, I began having horrible cystic acne breakouts. I didn't even recognize my face anymore; I became so depressed. Naturally, I decided to see a doctor since I needed help, and I've always been told that doctors help people. Anyway, I made an appointment with Thrash. There was no examination, he didn't ask what my skincare regiment was, what I'm eating, or do any testing whatsoever. He waltzed right in and told me that I needed Acutane. How can you prescribe a drug to someone when you don't even know the cause of their ailment? I can't even articulate how upsetting this appointment was. He obviously gets paid to prescribe this drug to people, and all the other things would cause him to actually work and be a doctor, and help people, which he didn't appear to have any interest in doing. Love Dr. Proffitt's office already and I just had my first appointment there today. Easy to find parking around the area. Office staff were extremely friendly, which is very unusual for Dallas! Barely had to wait before being called back by the doctor himself (that never happens at other offices). Great bedside manner and discussed different options with me, while giving his advice on the efficacy of each option. Most affordable derm office I have ever been to!! They were able to do a test in the office that I usually have to pay more than $100. Actually looking forward to continuing with this doctor and finally get my skin under control! I went to see Dr. Amy Wolthoff for an acne cyst. She was really personable and asked questions about my overall acne concerns in a kind and friendly way. I felt really comfortable talking with her. She quickly treated my cyst and gave me samples of topicals to try. Also, the overall appointment was thorough but efficient - I was not kept waiting very long at all, which was much appreciated.
