I recently had an unfortunate experience. I was out and about in San Francisco and even though it was warm and sunny I knew that I would be out as night fell so I brought my jacket and my regular glasses in a soft case which I shoved into the pocket of my jacket. Since it was warm I was carrying my jacket, and as I ran across the street to make the light my glasses fell out of my jacket pocket and right in front of the wheels of an oncoming car. They were completely flat when I picked them up. I looked at the bent and mangled frame and I thought there's no way these are going to be able to be repaired. I rigged them up temporarily so that I could wear them to drive home. Then the next day I went to my optical supply store Uber Optics, where I had originally purchased the glasses. I was going to find out how much it would cost to put the lenses into a new frame. The lenses seemed like they were still in good shape. When I handed over the mangled glasses with one ear piece detached, I asked if it would be possible to put those lenses into a new frame and how much that might cost. Jennifer told me "Hang on, let me take these and see what I can do". She took them into the back room where she worked some kind of magic on them and brought me back a fully functional pair of glasses. I was astounded! I thought for sure I would be buying a new frame. Not only that, the repair did not cost me one penny. That is a level of service that is so rare these days! I have been assisted by the other two folks that work at Uber Optics at other times when I have visited. Everyone has always been extremely professional, knowledgeable, and very helpful. I went in to replace lenses in frames I love with a new prescription. I know this business has many 5 star wonderful ratings but I was not as happy as others in my experience. I was told it would take two weeks. When I went in to see if they had arrived, I was told it means two weeks of business working days. So I accept that it will be longer and wait. The days passed but there was no call that they were in. So I dropped by again and was told they had arrived on the previous date I had been in. However no one called. So I pick them up. The arms were poorly adjusted by a staff member. I went in again and one arm was loosened and maybe the other tightened. The loosened arm had oil applied and I have been breathing in this toxic smell for a couple of hours. I had such high hopes for this cute store downtown Petaluma. But I won't be back. read more

I adore this little shop! The selection of stylish frames that fit a variety of budgets is unsurpassed. After moving to the North Bay from San Francisco I wanted to support local business and I had come across Uber Optics on Instagram. I made an appointment to visit (during COVID) and it was really a special treat. The shop features shelves of colorful and glittering frames. I had a lot of fun trying on frames in a private setting and settled on a beautiful Anne et Valentine frame. Two weeks later I picked up my glasses and could not be more pleased. The lens quality is gorgeous and even without a prescription change, the visual quality is so much better than my SEE eyewear and Warby Parker's. I'd gone all over Marin, a few spots in SF, and even Berkeley seeking out something I knew existed, but couldn't locate. After trying several amazing frames the gals at Uber Optics had not lost an ounce of patience with me, in fact they were so helpful, right away they picked up on the style I was into and ran with it. I have purchased four different frames over the last two years, I have had to send my glasses back twice due to my RX changing, or doctor writing the RX incorrectly. Nancy and Elizabeth are super knowledgeable, fun and honest. They put us in frames we would have never picked up but ended up falling in love with. They tell you what looks good and also why something doesn't flatter your features which is very helpful. Based on the 5* reviews on Yelp, I went over to Uber Optics to look at glasses. A gal helped me find low bridge frames (I am Asian) and was very helpful. We narrowed it down to two and she took my information. As I was getting up to leave, another gal asked to check my pockets as she was missing a frame. Why she thought I stole a frame is beyond me. I was totally insulted and don't know if it was because I was Asian. y husband who is not Asian said this woman was eyeing my purse the whole time I was there. But I will never step foot inside that store. So since so many had great reviews, I have to think that the reason I was in her radar as someone who might steal things is because I am Asian. Also I am in my 60's. I will also tell anyone of color my experience. This was unbelievable in 2019. In response to Nancy's statement: This is quite unbelievable! It does not seem to matter that I DID NOT TAKE THE FRAMES to Nancy or the police. That I am guilty without facts. What is my motive in taking a pair of frames that I can well afford to pay for? Why is Nancy going to great lengths to prove something that she has no concrete proof but what she believes to be facts. Nancy's comment that she witnessed me taking the frame and putting it in my pocket. What she did not say was that I was searched before I left the store and she DID NOT find it in my pockets, except my cell phone and a pair of gloves. There was nothing in the other pocket. A frame was not found! But that did not seem to matter to her. 1) Why was the the police called after I was searched and nothing was found? Somehow you were not satisfied even having found nothing. So you did not believe your eyes that you found nothing but believed otherwise and pursued this action. 2 Why was the police not called when we were in the store if you are so certain that this occurred? 3) Why was the Officer not asking me me what happened, but insisting I give the frames back when I NEVER took them. He said there was a film showing I took them. He automatically assumed I was "guilty". I tried to explain that I had my cell phone in my pocket and took it out when I wanted my husband to take photos so I could see what the frames looked like on me. But he was not interested in listening to my explanation. 4) I would very much like to see the footage of me holding a frame in my hand and putting it in my pocket. Why don't you post this footage? Also the footage showing that my pockets were searched and nothing was found. Or is this footage deleted and you are denying that I was searched and found nothing?? 5) Why would I give my full name, address and phone # if I was hiding something 6) Why would I drive to Petaluma to look at frames when I live in Sonoma 7) Why would I spend time in the store to look and try on frames? 8) Was I suspicious when I said I wanted to think about the two frames I narrowed down and did not buy then? I had gone to an optical store in Sonoma and did not find a frame I liked (I did the same thing: tried on frames and took photos of me with the frames on) and planned to go to another store in Sonoma to check if there was something I liked better. Because it is not easy to find low bridge frames, I wanted to take my time to select one I really liked. Isn't this what people do in a frame store? 9) Why was I targeted right from the beginning, that I was a potential shoplifter, that I could not afford to buy a pair of glasses from your store. Was it what I was wearing - raincoat & black jeans, my age, my race, my trying on frames and taking photos to decide which ones I like and to be able to see what they looked like as I was wearing my prescription glasses and not my contacts and could not see clearly. I am mystified There were 2 other people in the store also besides my husband and I and 3 staff/owners there. 9) With at least several hundred frames in your store, how is it just when I was leaving, "a frame is missing". My husband tried to explain that he tried on several frames and may have misplaced a couple of them. Was the frame missing before we walked or or could someone misplaced the frame or did someone else take it. And it seems that I am being made the scapegoat for this missing frame. I have never been accused of shoplifting in all my 66 years, living in SF/Bay Area, Southern California, Sonoma and Petaluma. I have shopped in many places and been treated very nicely and fairly. People are lovely everywhere I have lived and shopped. Anyway I won't waste anymore of my time on this. People reading this will believe whomever they want to believe and nothing more I say will change that. I know unequivocally that I did not do what she claims and did not deserve to be treated like this. I won't lose another day on this. One day of undue stress, emotional distress is all I am going to give up for this blatant false accusation. read more
