I have been there under the care of Dr Harris who is retiring this month. He was adaptable, of good humor and professional.

I found this office from the VSP website list of local doctors and I am glad I did. With my previous job I had Kaiser for my vision insurance but now I have VSP with my current employer and this felt like a much quicker process and more personal experience. I had set an appointment over the phone to get fitted for contacts. Earlier in the week I already had an eye exam elsewhere so I came in with my prescription ready in hand. After filling out my paperwork I met with Dr. Harris who is probably one of the most personable doctors I have met. During my appointment he explained about using math with my eye measurements to determine the sizing contacts and types of contacts I would need for my eyes. I hadn't used contacts in almost 10 years but putting them in came back to me easily, like riding a bicycle. He reminded me of the do's and don'ts about wearing them in relation to my job and lifestyle and even said I was a good candidate for lasik surgery which that option was never offered to me before. I enjoyed my visit here, all the staff was really nice and on top of that my contacts I had ordered have a $75 rebate (basically 55% off) which they submitted the rebate for me, so I ended up saving a bunch of money by coming here. I would recommend Petaluma Eye Care to anybody, this was a great experience. read more

Was referred by Petaluma Health Center and I did not realize this was an entirely separate business. Made an appointment for a comprehensive eye exam(thought I did) and my receipt from my visit says that is what I paid for but it was not even close. When I tried to ask a question after my eye was examined, I was told that I might need to make another appointment for a more complete exam. Hmm.....I thought that was the appointment I had made. Altogether a weird experience. Unprofessional and they need to decide on their mask policy. Very uncomfortable that the OD did not want to enter the exam room until I was masked. It would have been nice if they had given me a mask when I checked in. read more

I have been going to Petaluma eyecare for many years I walked in to ask them if I could look at the glasses before I made an appointment to see if there was something that I wanted and they refused and said I needed an appointment and would not allow me to look at the glasses. Not only that but they demand that you wear a mask to enter which is illegal. I will be filing a lawsuit against Petaluma eyecare. read more

I really like Dr Harris and I received wonderful help from his assistant on ordering glasses and trying on contacts. The front desk and prices are my issue. I bought my pair of prescription shades for $280.00. The frame broke by my mistake, and I ordered a new one but just the frame costs 240.00 and This had been about only a year or so since. I bought the pair. I then bought a pair of professional glasses but they cost $580.00. One of the arms came off and I asked them if they could repair then and they said no. I was told I would have to pay another $80.00 for a new frame. This was just about two months after I bought them. I glued them together myself. I am now buying the same pair @ Walmart for one quarter the price. The receptionists have been a major issue for me and between the cost and their attitude, these are the reasons I will not return. I called and left messages to never have them returned! Several times I have come into the office, I have felt like I was bothering the receptionist by just being there. I am always polite to people, so I did not get the rudeness I was picking up on. Also my second pair. I waited for, for two weeks. I called the day they were supposed to be there and was told they were not. I had already paid for them. I asked to be called when they came in and was not. I finally when into the office to find out why I had not received them yet. I then found out they were there the day I called for them. Again I Never received a call and they had been there a week? I had needed them for something special and was very disappointed to have to do with our them. And to find out they were there the whole time? If you spend $600'on glasses they should call you when they are in. And the fact that there is no warranty? Walmart gives a one year warranty of lens and frames. Again the arm came off while I was wearing them. I did not drop them or sit on them. I have successfully glued the arm back on using super glue. But it should have never have come off. Again Dr Harris is great! Perhaps the receptionists should be trained better and be a bit more Courteous. read more

Dr.Harris and his office manager and technician are frauds and thieves. I took my glasses to them to have the lenses changed to my new prescription, when I picked them up I immediately knew the lenses were never changed because before I left them there I marked them. The office manager and technician would only deny what I was saying and wouldn't look at the marks I put there. There's no chance it was just a mistake by them or the lab because someone had to do a couple things to make it look like the lenses were changed. I asked Dr. Harris to talk to me and all he did was shake his finger in my face and say he didn't like how I was talking to his office staff then he walked away. They refunded my money and took the marked lenses out of my frames probably because they are evidence. read more

I'm very surprised at the recent negative reviews that were left by people on here. I came in late 2019 to purchase some prescription sunglasses and found a beautiful pair of Burberry ones which have lasted me to this day. Because of my very positive experience and the fact that I could not make an appointment with my own Dr.'s office to purchase glasses, I called this office and they graciously squeezed me in for an appointment before year end and I went in. They followed every protocol you can imagine. They were only taking in people by appointments, taking their patients temperatures at the front door and had their masks on fully as they assisted their customers inside. I was helped by a beautiful young lady by the name of Surjit. She was knowledgeable, kind, patient and extremely helpful. What I loved the most was that there was no pressure to find what I wanted and she gave me the space I needed but was extremely helpful when I asked for her advice and assistance. I bought another pair of Burberry glasses and I can't wait for them to come in. Thank you Petaluma Eye care and Surjit for you wonderful help! Last summer I thought that I had a detached retina and was in to see Dr. Harris within a couple hours (if even that long). He immediately assured me that I was ok and put me at ease immediately - thanks to his staff I was taken care of and was back at home before I knew it! read more

Wow! This place was excellent from beginning to end. Got an appointment fast (next day) with Dr Cheung. She was kind and really took the time to make me feel comfortable for the exam. Then I met Rick who helps you pick out your glasses. He has great customer service skills and very professional. He takes pride in helping each customer. Lots of selection of glasses in all prices. Even the cheap ones are available. My two pairs of glasses arrived in 9 days and they called me immediately to let me know they were ready. PS: Rick is the bomb. Dot. Dr Ronald Harris misgenders trans people after being corrected, and the office has a discriminatory intake form for new patients requesting "sex" and "gender" separately, which is completely irrelevant when it comes to optometry. When I called to talk to their office staff about it they were unapologetic about his behavior and the form, saying that "every doctors office has that". read more

Lucky I found this office. The doctor was very nice and patient with me during the exam. The staff is always friendly, even when I was late because I wrote down the wrong appointment time. I would highly recommend this office to family and friends. A knowlegable eye doctor is essential for me, my eye health is as important as my overall health. read more

I'll start by saying Dr. Harris was himself pleasant and the examinations were fine. If you go there only for the exam I suspect you'll have a decent enough experience. At my age I'm ready for progressives. Fair enough. But as a computer worker I sit in front of the computer for 10 hours a day and I can read up close just fine even without glasses. It made most sense to me to get three pairs of single use glasses. Sunglasses for driving. One for computer work. And one for general distance use since. After finding some frames I liked I told the assistant. She pushed getting progressives. I protested but she pushed harder. I shouldn't have but I relented and we decided on one sun glasses and one progressive. About two weeks later the sunglasses came in but there was a problem. The company that fulfills the order had put the wrong tint on them. They would have to send them back to get redone. That's okay. Things like this happen and I was fine to wait. A week or so after that the progressives came in. When I went to try them on they didn't seem right. The manager, told me it would take time to get used to them. Things were too blurry though and I insisted these would not work. We went back and forth a few times when she finally directed me to the no-refund policy for progressive lenses, (they conveniently neglected to mention that when I originally placed the order). I told her I'd have to just handle it through my credit card company, yelp, the Better Business Bureau. At that point she decided to have another look. Turns out the woman who helped me the first time measured incorrectly and the levels of the progressives were misplaced. At that point she remeasured me and agreed to put the order back in at no cost. Not too long after that the sunglasses came in and they're just fine. When the revised pair of progressives came in I went back in. I'd looked up how progressive lenses work. If you don't know, you have to turn your head and look directly at what you want to see as the peripheral vision will always be blurry. I have over four feet of monitors from left to right in front of me when I work. After 10 hours of turning my head so completely I knew my neck would be in pain every day. I explained that and said I really need a pair just for computer use. I'll keep the progressives for my general use and computer glasses for work. It took some pushing, I don't know why, but I managed to get the manager helping me to agree to ordering me up a pair for that. I even explained that's what I'd wanted in the first place but was pushed away from that. There were some delays in getting the glasses. Turns out they didn't have the color I wanted. What's interesting is I never told them a color. I didn't tell them a color because when I brought the frames I'd found up and said I liked them that very first time, the woman helping me didn't mention they come in different colors. Would have been nice to know. Cut to a couple of weeks later when the computer glasses came in and she had ordered me progressives. Again. Why I don't know. I made it very clear progressives wouldn't work besides the fact that I don't need reading glasses. I had even demonstrated to her reading fine print over a foot away from me without any glasses on. I told her I had made it clear progressives wouldn't work. She told me I never said "single use". Well, I never said "single use" to get my sunglasses and they're just fine. I should have demanded the refund and just took my business elsewhere at that point but since they already had over $600 for these glasses (you pay up front) I figured just let them fix it and I'll be done with it. They can't make yet another mistake, right? Why yes they can! I picked up the computer glasses this morning. The left lens was not the same as the right. I could see at the appropriate distance, about 27", with the right lens. I had to move in to under a foot to see with the left. Being the morning, being late for work, I said I'd try them and see if I need to adjust. After a few hours at work and a few experiments it was clear the left lens was not the same as the right. I now had 6 individual lenses to try and only one was blurry. I called and let them know and they said they'd get back to me which they didn't. So I went in before they closed. Told them they were not right. Said I just wanted my money back and it was time for me to move on. The manager said I wouldn't get a refund. When I argued she said I wouldn't get all of it. That they don't have to give me anything. For defective glasses! I insisted again and she told me to wait. 20 minutes later I asked what was going on and everyone gave me the run around. I finally walked into the back and talked to Dr. Harris who finally agreed to write me a check after I was there for nearly 40 minutes for what would have been a 2 minute transaction on the credit card machine if they were honest and cared about customer service. I have had compassionate , excellent care and diagnosis with both Dr. Harris and Dr. Chavez. The staff is excellent, patient, kind and willing to work with you. I have had to see many eye care doctors in my life and feel very safe with Petaluma eye care and will continue going there for eye care needs. My new glasses came in on time, with no issues. They took time and accommodated my desires in frames. Overall an excellent facility and staff. Sadly Dr. Chavez has moved to another county and no longer works there. read more

My visit yesterday was my first visit to this office and first eye appointment in YEARS. The whole team at this office was very friends and I really liked Dr Harris. It's crazy how much eye testing has advanced since I was younger. What I really liked about this office is that it is a one stop shop. Dr Harris did the exam and then I was able to see many different types of glasses and choose some great frames. I will post pics when I pic them up! read more

This team is disorganized, not professional, not safe with clear mask protocols and they don't have a good eye glass selection. Dr Harris wore a mask but not covering his nose. Please decide if you are wearing a mask or not wearing one but it's confusing for us trying to understand what the safe thing to do is. I have a new baby and a full time job and getting out for my yearly long eye appointment is not easy. Upon completion Dr Harris said he'd dilate my eyes but after I looked at glasses. I looked for about 15-20 min and was told that no one could complete my exam/dialation due to lunch and I would have to reschedule. Why in these covid times would you want to have people return? I come in once a year, let's get this done. Instead I just won't have a complete eye assessment because I don't have time to come back. The eye wear I picked was apparently "too cheap" and I was advised would break and then have to be replaced at full cost. There were no other similar frames from any pricier options. They were interested in giving up their lunch break for me to shop for glasses but not interested in giving up their lunch break to do the eye dilation and complete my check up. The woman was frustrated and threw a small tantrum about not being able to meet her husband for lunch. I said the last person I want doing something painful to my eyes is someone angry so I'm set -- now never to return. And my yearly eye exam is now not complete. Hope my eyes are OK cause I'm not going back. I realize these are tough times but you have to be more buttoned up with your protocols and not force people to return for a 2nd appointment just to complete a yearly checkup. read more

I got in on a cancellation on the same day which was super convenient for me. There is plenty of parking, definitely a perk. I went in and was greeted by the friendly optometrist assistant Casandra who also also did my pre-testing. I was quickly taken to the back to have my eye exam done by Dr. Harris. He was very professional and thorough with the exam. I was given a prescription for my glasses and picked them out right there. They have a lot of options and different styles and brands to choose from. Surgeet helped me choose the right frame for my face shape. I ordered my glasses right away and I received them a week and a half later. I love my glasses and the prescription is perfect. I will be coming back for any future eye exams. read more

Great staff, great doctors (who care about your needs), AND every possible frame choice that you might think of! Truly a cut above the normal optometrist visit because they make you feel at home and part of their family. This review is not about Dr. Harris who I would gladly give a 5+ rating. He is a thorough, compassionate and knowledgeable doctor. I have been with this clinic for a few years and always been highly satisfied until today with the optical department. This issue is with the optical department only. I received my new pair of glasses and I expected the same type of lens As the old glasses, but they have numbers on the sides of the lenses that appear as a smudge on the left side when looking thru them, so I went in to find out about this and have the problem fixed. Was told they are "digital" glasses with clearer vision and an upgrade over the other lens I had had. The numbers are supposed to be on them and aren't supposed to be a problem! A retired optician friend, not associated with Petaluma Eye Care, said that the lab should have polished those numbers off when the lenses were in process. She also said that her eye wear company had told employees to tell clients that there was nothing that could be done. That was how the lenses were supposed to be made. WHY? She said it wasn't cost effective for the Lab to redo the lenses. The I was offered to have the glasses replaced with a lens that wouldn't be "as clear" as these digital ones and yet no price reduction. At the time I went in to order the glasses Andrea did not tell me about these new type of lenses. I was very specific that I need Trivex lenses with the coating I had on the old pair. I was unaware of this new 'technology'. Had I known about this number issue, I would not have wanted them knowing the numbers on them would have been an issue, however they or the lab chose to use these digital lenses. I personally feel I have been given the run around today and that an error was made by the Lab and this office will not advocate for a correction. Barbara also refused to give me a refund so I can go elsewhere to get the glasses. I want to go elsewhere, because frankly all confidence and TRUST has been destroyed today. I will miss Dr. Harris as my optometrist, for he the best! I have also gratefully appreciated the kind financial consideration and arrangements over the past years so I could get the quality care needed, but can no longer commit myself to the optical portion of care in this clinic after today. I will continue to investigate this issue. read more

All my previous glasses were less than satisfactory, and I realized when I got my new ones here that I had been seeing double! I've been a patient of Dr. Harris for 10 years. I have always been extremely pleased with him as my optician. Recently, I purchased new prescription glasses, as well as prescription sunglasses from his office instead of from a standard "frame" shop. I'm writing this review because of the SUPERIOR custom service and excellent product knowledge displayed by Dr. Harris' staff. I have NEVER ever been given the amount of attention and help in picking out frames like the attention I received from Dr. Harris' staff. The office was busy, but there was always someone to attend to me. And when the frames arrived -- along with the frames in two optional color choices, Dr. Harris was able to put my new lenses in one of the optional color choice frames. The office manager, Barbara, knows her product lines and keeps the office running smoothly and her clients very satisfied. read more

Made an appointment for a floater check up. I was a bit nervous not knowing what was going on with my eyes. Dillon and Jessica at the front desk were very friendly and welcoming. I made my appointment with Dillon and he was super friendly, easy going and took the time to answer all my questions. I immediately felt comfortable. Beautiful facility and nice little play corner for the kids Dr Cheung was very nice, extremely professional and took the time to explain everything she was doing. She was extremely efficient. I agree with the other 1-star posters here. My family has NOT had a good experience with this optician over the past 2 years and I would not recommend them. The doctor may be fine, but the office is not well run--simple things, like making patients wait 15 minutes to get a simple question answered by the optician, while the front office person carries on with a personal phone call, instead of asking the optician what to do about broken glasses that my daughter has had for only 6 months (second pair that had to be replaced) on our dime. Instead of understanding that my daughter cannot see without her glasses (which the temples broke on) and asking the office manager what the charge would be to replace them, the front office girl told us to come back another time when the manager was not busy. After I told her I had hired a babysitter to watch my other (special-needs) children, so we could get this problem managed, she reluctantly went to the back office, but 10 minutes later, we were still sitting there in the waiting room, W-a-i-t-i-n-g for a simple answer regarding what should have been a quick question. Crazy bad customer service. We're going back to Costco where at least they stand behind their glasses in the first year. Low threshold! read more

i give dr. harris a five star rating, but i feel the same way about the price of the frames. what i do is try on frames, there or elsewhere, then order my favorites from amazon. A LOT CHEAPER. after delivery of the frames, i have DR. HARRIS' team fill the Rx lenses there. too many bad experiences with online glasses, and ordering a Rx they may even guarantee. however, they are consistently very dicey about getting glasses filled with a correct Rx. i have ordered many pairs online, before i knew this. but i recommend this technique. this is my tried and true way to get the look i want, with the correct Rx i need. and..BONUS!: I GOT TO MEET RICK, the best guy to meet under any circumstances for any reason at all, to help me decide about my glasses. i took 3 pairs of amazon bought frames to rick, and he filled them perfectly. i wish rick lived next door to me. really, he is that great, that personable of a guy. hi rick!! xox read more

My eye care plan had changed and I hate that, because you have to start all over again and find another Dr. and office you like! We all know that is not usually easy. I read some reviews and knew I wanted it to be someone between Santa Rosa and Petaluma and picked Petaluma Eye Care, since it was close to my previous place and it sounded like Dr. Harris was worth a try! I'm pleased to report, he was not only personable, professional, thorough, with years of experience, but he actually listened to my issue that no other Dr. had looked into and then did further testing to come up with the right answer! I hadn't been able to focus well enough to read for the longest time, no matter what prescription I ever had because I had a condition I was unaware of! So, not only that was really great for me, after a long time struggling to have a solution, but then, Barbara and another lovely lady there (so sorry I don't recall her name) helped me to find the best frames for me and we had the best time doing it! It was actually fun and I really appreciated their help. Barbara has stayed in touch with follow up information and I was impressed with the personal care I got from everyone! Brand new to the getting glasses world. I was nervous and really did not want to get them.. the receptionist was very helpful and told me the process Id be going threw. When my Doctor was running a little late she told me promptly witch was really nice. I've been other places where the just let you sit there silent for an hour. Minutes after being told I was seen. My Doctor was extremely nice and talked me threw the test told me my options and gave some suggestions. Really felt that she actually wanted to help. Overall just very impressed by the smoothness of the office and how nice everyone there was. When I was having trouble finding a pair of frames the lady helping me went out of her way to go in the back and bring out some options she thought id like and thank the gods she did because the second ones she showed me were perfect. Only complaint at all is the pricing on things like non glare lends but Im not blaming the office for that. read more

Dr. Harris and his staff are all pleasant. However, after my eye test, Dr. Harris asked me if I had difficulty seeing to the side, I answered yes because the correction of my lenses lessens toward the side. Dr. Harris told me I needed prisms on my glasses, which was news to me, never having had them before. He wrote something on my prescription but did nothing to verify that I did in fact need prisms. I went elsewhere to get the new glasses because I did not see frames I liked at Dr. Harris's, and because progressive lenses are not covered by my insurance and are expensive at Dr. Harris's office. When the new glasses arrived, I could barely see out of them, so I returned to Dr. Harris to check the prescription. He discovered that the person who had typed up the prescription had made a mistake, re-tested me, noticed that he had previously prescribed prisms and added them at a higher strength (again without verifying the change) and gave me a new prescription. I returned to the dispensary and had the glasses re-done. When the second pair of glasses arrived, they were better but I was seeing a different sized image out of each lens. Once more I returned to Dr. Harris and was re-tested. My prescription was very slightly different (after a month or so) and he told me that my cataracts (which are small) made my prescription changeable, even in such a short time, and that since I had not purchased the glasses from him, he had no control over the quality of the glasses I received. I have used this dispensary for years without problems and returned with the second pair of glasses. I also went to another optometrist to get re-tested. It turned out that I do not need prisms on my glasses at all and that it is highly unlikely that changing cataracts would have caused the problems I'd had with the glasses. In fact the problem was caused by the prisms! If Dr. Harris had bothered to check, he would have known that I didn't need prisms. (At least I think he would have.) I also think he should have taken responsibility for his mistakes instead of making up excuses for himself. Dr. Harris is well past the usual retirement age, and although I don't doubt his experience, I do think it may be time for him to retire. read more

I had ordered two pairs of glasses. Although I was told that I would be called when the glasses were ready, I had to call after about a month or more and they had failed to call me. I told them that I couldn't see, but the staff said to keep wearing them until my eyes adjusted. I knew there was no way my eyes could adjust. Dr. Kaplan who, overhearing my problem, pointed out that the technician had incorrectly transcribed the prescription. I left confident that everything would be all right. I was wrong. The first pair, bifocals, were great, but the second pair, distance only, were terrible. Again I was told to get use to them. I had to see Dr. Harris. It was just awful. His behavior and comments left me thinking that his only concern was the balance I owed which I paid, leaving with the bad glasses and vowing never to return. read more
