I started using uber like a year back in San Francisco cause it is so hard to drive around in the city and uber gets you around for A decent rate. Uber sucks big time. What a scam company. They charged me $20 extra and won't refund on an uber eats order. I was given a promotion of 40% on the app to use on a convenience store and so I did. My order total after including tips was $51.90 but they charged me $72.85 right after delivery. Seriously? I contacted them on chat immediately and talked to 4 different CS representatives who had no clue how to help me. They kept parroting the same thing, asking me to share a screenshot of the promo. I told them their useless app does not show me used promos so how can i share the screenshot but i did share a screenshot of the authorized amount from my credit card company. I have a terrible experience with Uber. Yesterday I contacted Uber to give me a ride from SF international airport to my home in south bay. The estimated cost from Uber apps showed 56 dollars for this ride. However after this ride, uber first cancel my original charge of 56 dollars, instead they charged me 136 dollars for this charge and later add additional 80 dollars for clearning. I tap my Uber app to request a pool. One driver responded but then disappeared off the map, then a second Uber Pool driver Tu responded & never showed up at the Santa Clara Light Rail stop where I waited like 20 min. Then a charge for $ 7.20. The pickup and drop off locations are both wrong. Wowie-zowie, what a stunning rip off. I chose Uber because I felt as if I'd be helping out a regular citizen trying to make ends meet during this weird covid time. I had never used them before and definitely won't again. Was quoted $90-120. Was billed 119. So far, so good. The driver was 30 minutes late which was annoying but I already calculated this in to the ride. I was surprised though, there was no way to check on an ETA. The driver had a really odd demeanor. He kept saying he was on time and repeated this several times during the ride, even though I had not mentioned he actually was pretty late. We arrived at the airport within 45 minutes with the usual light Saturday morning traffic. I was charged a "surge" fee of triple the quoted rate. Then a doozie of an insult is the bill included a bridge toll. We didn't cross any bridges. The final charge was the $119 PLUS $286. I complained to the company...a complaint which has un-surprisingly gone unresolved. I plan to kick this up to the next level but imagine I will have to accept this as a $400 dollar lesson. For what all I paid, I could have hired a limo, which my company has done in the past and definitely could have done the traditional cab. My advice: beg a friend, or snag a cab hire the limo next time you need a ride. The hay day for these "ride share" platforms is over. read more

This review is solely about UberEATS. I usually use DoorDash for my food delivery, but decided to go with UberEATS this time. Big mistake. I ordered from a local burger place and was given a delivery time or 7:20, which updated to 7:50 after my order was confirmed by the restaurant. It is a holiday weekend, so I was annoyed, but understood. When the food got here, my order was incomplete. I ordered a cheeseburger which was supposed to come with a side order of fries. I only got the burger, so I immediately contacted customer service on both the app and on Twitter. I still have not heard back from them. This is where their competitor has them beat. On the rare occasion I have an issue with a delivery, DoorDash gets back to me within 5 minutes, even after normal business hours. They also allow you to contact them over the phone, which is not an option on Uber, probably because they would have to talk to their customers and refund them when their orders are wrong. I guess I'll be going back to DoorDash for food delivery. read more

Used Ueber from SJC airport to residence in San Jose on April 27. Diver Charles failed to make himself/his car known while I waited at the airport in the designated pick up area. This resulted in a considerable time-delay and costs. During the ride, he failed to start driving again in a timely manner after the light turned green. As far as I can tell, the only advantage to Uber (as opposed to a legit car service) is that it is cheaper than a taxi by about 20% (thus the 2nd star). With that said our recent Uber experiences to and from SFO were a bit scary, the cars were old, one had split seat covers, the drivers friendly enough but somewhat erratic in their driving skills. I thought drivers had to have a later model pristine car to qualify as an Uber driver? Guess not, apparently the car as to be 2001 (!) or newer, so a 15 year old car qualifies? I know that you can pay more for a better grade of car, but if I am going to do that will use a professional car service. And why don't they provide drivers with a magnetic roof sign so that they can easily be identified? There has been more than one incidence of an uber passenger trying to get into a non-uber car as they cannot easily be identified (how many silver Priuses are there in SIlicon Valley?). WIth Uber's Multi-Billion valuation, the least they can do is provide a sign for the roof, if my local pizza shop can affford it, they certainly can. read more

I used the UBER App to book a ride in advance to Oakland Airport. I was on the App at 10PM Thursday night and booked a ride for 7:30 AM the next day for my flight at 10:00 AM. I thought all was well, the app said the ride would be there between 7:30 & 7:45 AM. Perfect done. 1. At 7:25 AM the next morning I get a notification that the app is looking for my ride. I thought - why make an appointment in advance? I could have just done that myself... 2. About 7:34 I received a notification that someone was on the way, then the notification disappeared and I could not see who was picking me up? 3. About 7:48 I received a notification that a driver was not available to take me to my destination. WOW. Not having much confidence in UBER to get me to the Airport on time after step 2 above, I went ahead and used their competitors app and I had another ride at my house in 8 minutes and eventually made it to the Airport on time. Thankfully I was already in the other company's car when I got the notification from UBER that they could not provide the service they confirmed 9 hours earlier. If your using UBER to book a ride in advance make sure you have a back up plan! read more

The car service is great! But OMER a driver is aweful, he can NOT be understood and he could not find a giant courthouse. He drove by it over and over with me standing there and with him on the phone, I'm watching him go by over and over asking him to stop so I could get in. I had the opportunity to take an uber ride to the airport yesterday. I had a early flight to catch out of SFO and didn't want my daughter to have to drive me there from Santa Clara ... Besides it was gonna be a new experience for me, an adventure, ha ha The uber driver arrived promptly, only about 6 minutes from the time My daughter requested it. He had a new car, hybrid, so it was really clean and quiet. The driver, Carlos, was dressed in a light blue dress shirt and slacks. He looked so professional and was very polite. He put my luggage in the trunk and allowed me to place my hand carry on the back seat with me. The drive was so pleasant. I told him it was my first uber ride and answered all of my questions. I felt very safe the entire way.. No near misses or sudden stops. He dropped me off at the checking curb and I was on my way. The ride took about 40 minutes and was less than $40. I'm excited to use uber again. It would be a great alternative to driving and parking at the airport and probably a great way to get to concerts and events. I started using Uber July 2015. It's good, reasonably priced service. Then they dropped the price by 40 percent January 2016. As a consumer I was thrilled. Once I gave it a bit more thought I realized they were screwing their drivers. They aren't getting paid enough to drive me anywhere. I've noticed drivers are so pissed off, they drive less which results in more frequent on-demand pricing, i.e., I pay X times more because demand seems to increase. Demand isn't increasing. Fewer drivers want Uber fares because they get paid so little. It's ridiculous. What's worse is unlike Lyft, there is no mechanism to tip from their app. Most Uber drivers also drive for Lyft. Further, drivers regularly tell me Uber management doesn't treat them well. I'd jump over to Lyft but I can't afford Lyft. Now Uber is booking new fares with drivers just before they drop off their current passengers. Yesterday, a driver told me he was frustrated because he hardly had time for a bathroom break. He's far less motivated to drive for them. Uber needs to get a grip and treat their drivers better. I like the competitive rate but not at the expense of their drivers. read more

So I have been getting offers in my email to try Uber Eats. I have tried several times and each time it says "Can't use that promo code". Why do they send the promos if you can't use them??? On top of that, here's the real kicker, I was ordering from Armadillo Willys (one of there contracted restaurants) and the order total on the AW menu (NOT Uber Eats) is $68 including tax and tip. With all of the Uber fees, taxes, tip and delivery fees, $108. WHAT A RIP OFF!!! An additional $40 to use Uber. I am now cancelling all of my Uber accounts, including all my business use (I'll go with Lyft). Uber Eats is a giant rip off, will NEVER use that service. Now I'll spend an 15 minutes and drive there and pick it up myself. I was only trying it to use a promo code that is no good. Throughly disappointed in Uber. My issue with Uber is that their customer service is apparently non-existent. I filed a complaint on their website after a two-week trip to Costa Rica. It shows that it was submitted and went through, and they will get back to me. They never did. So I tried a second time closer to two weeks. This time they responded but they said that I should have filed my complaint within 30 days. Just filing the first complaint was taxing as I had to jump through an impedance course of questions that might fit my complaint. If find it strange that they never acknowledge that I said I filed a first complaint. They keep mentioning that I need to file within 30 days. So we go around in circles. This was my first time using Uber. My trip started with Uber in NYC to JFK Airport. That went well. Then when I arrived in San Jose, Costa Rica that is where my troubles began. I bought my SIM card then went out in front of the airport. I had read up on taxis at the San Jose Airport. I read on Tripadvisor that there is a restaurant and a bus stop where Uber picks up customers when you make a right exiting the airport. I summoned an Uber car service. The driver responded. I wrote back I am at the bus stop in front of the airport. He wrote back for me to meet him at the bus depot. I had no idea where the bus depot is located. Besides I had two pieces of luggage and a carry-on. I was not about to go searching for an Uber car. I wrote back that I don't know where the bus station is, and that I'm standing at the bus stop with other passengers. Needless to say I called on the voice but the driver never responded, and never came to meet me. There was a lady waiting at the bus stop for a taxi she reserved. She asked me who am I waiting for? I told her for Uber but he never showed up. She agreed to let me use her taxi so we both got in. I paid the driver what was on the meter, and thanked her. The driver charged me for a trip I never took. While it was not a lot it's the principle that counts. This was my first time in Costa Rica. I don't know anyone there. And the last thing I wanted was to file a complaint against one of their citizens while still in the country. I figure I would wait until I got home. I arrived July 8. 2021 then returned home July 21, 2021. I filed my complaint soon after I arrived. Uber never acknowledged my complaint. Only after I filed the 2nd complaint they claim I filed outside of the 30 days. It's impossible to reach a live human being at Uber. Apparently there is a phone number but for emergencies only. Every contact or complaint has to be done by going through an obstacle course. Unlike other companies where a paper trail is left on their website this is not the case with Uber. For example I had to contact Verizon, I have choices to call them by phone, write them or contact them using their messenger. Not only that they send me the transcript of our chat to my email. Uber gives the impression it's high tech but truly it's technology is up there with the cave man. The other day they contacted me to say they notice I have not used their service lately. So I wrote back why and explained again that i filed a complaint that they never responded to. Then my 2nd complaint they did respond telling me I need to file within 30 days. A human actually got back to me. He totally ignored what I said about not hearing from Uber on my 1st complaint. I received a reply from Uber Support that I will post here: "Hi Wayne. We are sorry to hear that the Driver partner was unprofessional. This type of attitude is not accepted by us, because it is not the appropriate one. We analyze the details of your trip. However, we cannot make adjustments when your request was made after 30 days from the date of travel. If you have any problems with another trip in the future, we recommend that you contact us as soon as possible. We appreciate that you report this type of situation to us to maintain professionalism and provide a great experience when using the application. It has been a pleasure to meet your request on this occasion. By this time I should be screaming like a banshee. For the record, Uber I contacted you two weeks after my trip but you never responded. You created an opaque, labyrinth system to frustrate anyone who dares to complain. Then you keep repeating the same lie. And expect that I will contact you in the future in the event I have another complaint. The driver who pulled that stunt is no better than the crooked taxi drivers who came up to me trying to get me into their taxi outside San Jose Airport. This was my first and LAST Uber experience whatsoever. They cheated me by adding "surcharges" $5.20 to my shared ride from San Jose airport to Warm Spring BART when there was absolutely no toll or fee required along the route! I had to pay $19 for a 25 minute ride with another rider in the car! The driver was not courteous at all; never introduced himself nor did he confirm my name or destination. I had to do all the asking! I checked LYFT for such a shared ride at the same time of the day, and it would have only cost me $13!! So beware of these "surcharges"! Use LYFT instead! I received confirmation, the driver showed on time; however, literally just as I went to open the car door to get in the drive drove off, had I taken another step the ass hole would have hit me. This isn't so much a review of the service by the drivers (which has mostly been good) but a review of the Uber customer service. I use Uber quite a bit. I probably ride an Uber at least once weekly and sometimes more often. After dozens of rides inevitably there is a billing glitch or another issue that needs resolution. If it doesn't fall into their menu of online questions good luck because you might as well quit now before becoming frustrated. There is no way to email, text, call, dm, snail mail or smoke signal customer service at Uber. They have an affective firewall and they don't want to hear your problems. In fact, this is why I am writing this review. I had a minor issue with a ride where a driver canceled my ride for not wearing a mask. I saw him turning into the lot and I put my mask on but he clicked off his signal and swerved back into traffic and left, canceling my ride. I am not even sure how he knew I was his ride because he split without getting within 100 feet of me. My mask was on while he was stuck in the center lane so I am not sure what his issue was. Next I received a message from Uber notifying me that my driver canceled my ride for not wearing a mask. It explained their mask policy which I am aware of and in the body of the message explained that if I was wearing a mask contact them through the "help" center. I tried the help center on my app = no dice. I tried the link in the email = nope And I went on a laptop and went to their website and spent a bunch of time looking = nope. So their driver had a hair trigger about a mask I put on before he even pulled in the lot. And I got canceled for it. And got an email chastising me for it. The email said to contact them through the help center on a path that doesn't exist. And there is no way to contact them. At all. Good job Uber. read more
