Uber started out as a great experience esp given the convenience of not waiting for a cab and saving that extra time paying the fare at the end of your ride. Although lately their service has gone bad to worse: - More than a couple of times my request has been first accepted and then declined after a few minutes of waiting (I hate the fact that no reason is provided for this and seems almost at the whim of the driver) - Two days back while waiting for my uber, another uber driver (not the one who accepted my request) approached me and asked me to ride with him. Thankfully I had the presence of mind to cross check the number plate and realize this wasn't the car I was waiting for. Incidents like these point towards the growing security concerns while riding with uber - Some of their drivers are just too chatty. I know some people would like this but personally I feel there's a line between being courteous and over-friendly. And I feel that line is being crossed way too often by uber drivers (this was never the case earlier!) At the recommendation of a friend, we had used Uber on a recent trip to NYC with great success, so I was looking forward to trying it here at home for a night out. The trip from Bellevue to Belltown went smoothly enough. And, although I was a little unsure how long it would take a driver to get to our house, it only took about 10 minutes. There was a bit of a language barrier - and since Uber doesn't give the driver exact locations for pick up - that was a bit of a challenge, but we managed. One of the reasons I thought I would really like Uber was the ease of ordering a car at the end of the night. That turned out not to be the case. When ordering the car, like every time before, I used the app and clicked the button to have a driver sent to "my location". What I didn't pay attention to was that "my location" still had my location as my house, not the restaurant. So, we waited 10 minutes and the driver called and that is where he tells me he's in Bellevue at our house. He's cranky - and telling me I have to cancel the reservation and I might be charged for it. That makes me really cranky. But what made it worse is that I couldn't get the app to find my real location. It kept telling me I was in Bellevue. I even tried inputting the exact location of the restaurant - and it kept finding places in different cities. I tried scrolling on the map, but it wouldn't get granular enough to find the restaurant. I know that Uber knew where they had dropped us off because I had the receipt from the trip in - but I couldn't get it to recognize that location. Finally, my husband suggested re-booting my phone and that worked, we had a car within 5 minutes and we were on our way. I did have an email from Uber acknowledging the cancellation and telling me that because it was my "first offense" they would waive the cancellation fee. That made me mad because it was their app that had the problem - yes, I should have verified the correct location - but it had never been a problem before. A minor thing, but I was also cranky because their website says "downtown Bellevue to downtown Seattle" is $45. We're not in downtown Bellevue and actually live closer to downtown Seattle, but our fee on both trips was higher than $45. One was $49 and the other $52... Even before the snafu, the app has several limitations. You can't order a car ahead of time - and you don't know how long it will take a car to get to you - or if there is even one available. So, trying to meet a reservation could be challenging and you should leave yourself plenty of time. I have found the app to be frustrating in that it is very rigid - you can't scroll or click anywhere, whatever screen you are on, you are stuck there - no going back to see what you did previously. No way to put in the actual address for your pick up - or store your home address and have a driver pick you up at home. I'll probably try Uber again, but I'll make darned sure I know what location they think I'm at. read more

As a senior citizen extra walking and waiting is very difficult. My last experince was at Sea tac ate at nite with 2 grandsons. I saw a huge line of customers calling and waiting for uber and was informed by a driver and severl customers. only carpools were available and cost would br aeound $37 This was quite expensive I walked acroos to the not no busty taxies got a ride immediatley and it cost me $32 What is this all about. I used to think Uber was the best thing out there until the last three times and I simply had to write a review about it. Their response time was off by 15 minutes and the driver couldn't find his way back out of the neighborhood. I have used Uber and enjoyed the service itself. However, I have to give Uber a 1 star rating because of its refusal to honor my privacy request. I began the process of becoming an Uber driver about a month ago, but I quickly realized that my vehicle is three years too old. So, I stopped the driver application. Since then, I have been receiving multiple emails from Uber urging me to complete my application, as well as reminders to take my vehicle for an initial inspection. Used Uber on the weekend the last few months. Is it awful? No, they'll get you from point A to point B. Is it cheap? Not particularly. I haven't felt unsafe any of the times, like some of the reviewers claim though. But do NOT expect excellent service, drivers who know every route and don't need to look at the navigation every two seconds, or reliability of showing up when you need them, for that matter. Had an uber driver cancel twice on me the same weekend. If you just need a quick ride within downtown from one bar to another and you're not in a hurry, then this will do but if you need a ride to, say - the airport, or an important event and especially if you've got luggage, kids with you, or particular attire that requires a spotless interior for you to sit in - well I recommend you find a professional service whose drivers are reliable, trained and focus on customer service. read more

Oh uber.... u got half my ride last night right. I order a uberx (which is awesome BTW) to take me from bellotown to sodo and I wasn't quite sure where I was going so I typed my destination into The app. I was picked up probably within five minutes. I told the taxi driver where I was going and he asked me if I knew directions to get there. Uhhh... I thought he's suppose to know. So I use my maps app on my phone and got us almost there but got confused by The direction and ended up doing a u-turn and got stuck behind a train to cross. I was very disappointed because if We knew where We were going in The first place I wouldn't Hebrew to pay to wait for The train. While The train was passing then The driver asked for The address... really? Ugh, whatever. I used unethical again on my way back to The city and The driver was there in 10mins and got home a life faster. read more

Uber's customer service is none existent. I forgot my hand bag in an uber on the way home from the airport and they claim they have no way of tracking the car to retrieve it. I received two of the same responses several hours apart from two different customer service representatives: "We're sorry your item has gone missing, we have no way to track it." And then nothing. I would expect a higher level of customer service, professionalism and just human decency in trying to find my lost items. Extremely disappointed. read more

I wish that I could give 4.5! The car was fancy, the driver was courteous, and he didn't force me to have awkward taxicab driver conversation with him when it was clear that I was not in the mood to speak. There was a bottle of water and a pack of gum waiting for me in the backseat, and the accommodations were cushy and nice. I was excited about the fact that I didn't have to have my debit card with me, because my fiancé had it at the place where I was supposed to be meeting him. But! It was already on file, so no fuss. The only thing that I thought was odd was that the driver had an iPhone and a GPS right in front of him, and asked me for the address of The Georgetown Ballroom, which was my destination. Regardless of whether I use Uber or Lyft, I no longer wish to put myself into a cab ever again. While the experience is 100% dependent on the driver, it's going to be about 50% cheaper than a cab and more dependable each time you call a car. I've heard stories of drivers not showing up or cancelling ride requests, but I've only had that happen once when the nearest driver was 15 mins away. Would like to give -10. Idiot rude drivers. Probably losers from some place who go to Seattle for this scam company thinking they can make more money than their KFC job. Like automatons or some robot they follow routes which are the dumbest and most crowded in the USA and you sit hopelessly stuck in traffic. One idiot liked to sit behind busses and not go around. This happened several times. You cant convince them to take another street, or side street. Finally had it and told one driver to NOT go through a certain area on a way to an important biz meeting in Seattle, as it is the worst ffffffffffff congested street in the city. He told us to get out of his ffffffffff car (if he even owned it). Still received a charge of $40+ (which will be contested). Had it, and have gone back to city cab drivers who know HOW to drive and KNOW how to get through the city. Done with Uber! Will not use this faceless entity anymore. Drivers are becoming more and more uncomfortable to ride with. Took two rides last week and waited for both at my pick up point. The first one called my and said he went to the wrong location and figured it out on his own without me having to even respond. Second ride, I only waited 30 seconds at curbside. Both rides charged ME a wait fee. They've quickly stooped to low and unethical level, poor quality standards for drivers, they nickel and dime customers, undetermined floating rates while in transit and worst of all they hide behind the Internet and cannot and will not be contacted. God forbid you come close to them. I got their app on my cellphone; I never downloaded it. It is a malware which I can not remove even if I restore my phone to factory setting. Do NOT download their app, do NOT type their name. I have disabled the app -it is the only thing I can do - and I am going to change my new cellphone for another one. Uber used to be a great alternative to paying high taxi fares. As of late, Uber now has different fees depending on which type of vehicle picks you up. A ten minute ride from downtown Seattle home ended up at cost of 41.00 because it was SUV. Not real happy with Uber anymore. read more

Below is a message I posted to Uber's facebook page today: Uber - Re: your new "Uber Hop" service in Seattle. Someone, somewhere, decided that the tiny parking lot and alley behind my office building would be a great gathering point for Uber vehicles waiting to make "Hop" pickups. One major problem: your vehicles are, for all intents and purposes, parked in the alley way, not moving. The parking garage for my building has ONE exit, and it exits into the alley. For the past 2 workdays, it has taken me, and everyone else in my garage, 20+ minutes to make our way out of the garage. I have spoken to several Uber employees who say they are "trying" to keep the Uber vehicles out of the way, but it's not possible...this is a single lane alley with one entrance on each end. For every vehicle the Uber employees managed to get moved out of one end, two additional vehicles entered from the opposite end. The traffic trying to exit the parking garage, or enter/exit the adjacent surface lot literally could not move. You absolutely, 100% cannot block this alley way. THIS IS NOT A TAXI LANE. This is public right of way, and blocking is a fire and emergency hazard, and is illegal. Additionally, you are costing the Diamond Parking garage and parking lot revenue because people cannot get into the lot to park, and folks working in the building are starting to avoid the garage because they know they won't be able to get out in the evening. Unfortunately, after having half the population of the building speak with them on Thursday (the first day of this mess), and tell them what an enormous problem they were causing, the Uber employees and vehicles were back again on Friday, causing the same issues. This is not ok. If Uber employees continue to block this alley in any way, shape or form, Seattle PD, Fire Department, and DOT will be notified this afternoon. I have used Uber for a couple of years and been very satisfied; HOWEVER on my last trip on 6/11/18, to SeaTac airport, I was charged $150.63. I made the exact same trip on 2/15/18 and I paid $50.70 This recent trip was THREE TIMES the price I had paid on the previous trip for the exact same starting point and destination. Since I was taking an International flight, I had to be at the airport 3 hours ahead of my departure; therefore I did not have time to call a Taxi or make other arrangements. This had never happened before. When I returned, I took a taxi home and paid $56. Today 6/24/18 I contacted Uber with a complaint and they adjusted the charge to $133.13....STILL much higher than the $50.70 I had paid 4 months earlier. Please let this serve as a WARNING, you CANNOT RELAY that what you may have been charged on a previous trip, will have any baring as to what you may be charged on the same trip, different day. I strongly advise that if you need to be able to relay on a fee you will be charged you should book ahead with either a limo service or taxi. read more

My family and I started using Uber after our car was totaled a week ago, and yellow cab failed to pick my family (with a 7 month old baby) up and take us to the hospital, after we had a car requested twice. I've used Uber for a few months now and love it. It is simply to use, the drivers are friendly, cars are nice, and the rates are fair. We used it on New Year's Eve and didn't have to wait around for a cab. They showed up on time and were reliable. I love the iPhone and Android app for Uber. It is easy to use and you never have to talk with an operator or dispatcher who doesn't really like their job. You can watch the Uber cars on your smartphone as they come pick you up at your location and they text you when you are outside. These are true towncars, so no more sleazy taxis! Lastly, there is no arguing or negotiating about the fare. It is consistent and charges your credit card and emails you a receipt. I have recommended this service to a few friends now and they absolutely love it. They never travel by cab anymore. read more

I guess I've just been lucky, because, in general, I've had great experiences with Uber. All but one trip has been five star. I'm taking off a star for the lame "surge" pricing, the fact that you can't add in a tip (sadly, I did not know this the first time and didn't have a cash tip for the poor driver who had been great!) and the fact that on a recent trip to San Francisco the app had a lot of trouble finding my location. (Also, on the same trip, one Uber driver drove right past us, did not attempt to stop or contact us in any way, then cancelled the trip...booo!) After many awful experiences in local cabs over the years, I am overjoyed to have alternatives like Uber and Lyft. We first tried to call a cab but were told that it was at least a 2 hour wait and they were no longer taking names. Uber to the rescue - a driver was 3 minutes away! I'm downgrading Uber to 4 stars (wish I could give 3.5) because of surge pricing. I took a car today and a message said that the rate would be 1.25x the usual. I'm not okay with this because taxis don't do this. And if Uber wants to do this, I think they should specify when they will have surge pricing so that one can plan accordingly, I don't like surprises. I've read online that sometimes surge pricing is 6x the usual rate depending on what events are happening that day. As I can't keep up with all the events in the city on any given day, I'd like Uber to give customers a heads up on when to expect surge pricing. read more

I love being able to track where my ride is. I also feel safer knowing who my driver is and being able to recognize my driver. However, there were several times where my driver got lost or taking a really long route. I feel like taxi drivers do know the streets better compared to Uber drivers. read more

We used Uber to get around in Dallas TX the day before the game of Dallas Vs, Seahawks and the day of the game. We used several of them and every time we had prompt service with friendly drivers. Some cars where super clean and one had some room for improvements. The only reason I left the last star our is because I think that Uber should demand that the drivers should keep their vehicles clean and vacuumed. The fairs where so cheap. I love Uber! I typically use this service instead of cabs in the city. Always clean and the drivers are typically great with the random exception of course but that's to be expected. Why take a cab that smells plus you never know what kind of crazy that's going to be driving you? Pay a few $$ more and arrive in style and on time. I gave it a 4 star because the app has a few quirks that I hope they get worked out soon but otherwise a 5 star. read more
