It left me questioning the authenticity of the reviews, as the quality of the sushi and nigiri did not meet even basic standards. Wife & I enjoyed our anniversary dinner here and we were glad we did. We sat immediately, which is rare in Miami. Greeted by our waiter and he was super friendly and gave us some great suggestions. I don't have enough good things to say about Uchi. This Austin restaurant has opened in Wynwood Miami, and I'm so glad it did! We came early and sat at the sushi bar which is the best move. Uchi has happy hour between 5-6:30pm, which includes 1/2 price bubbles, so naturally we sat down and ordered a bottle of brut rosé. As for the food, we essentially did an unofficial omakase, leaving most of the food in the hands of the sushi chef, simply telling him that we prefer raw dishes rather than hot/cooked. We spent much of the evening talking to him and allowing him to serve us his recommendations until we were full. Everything was really incredible, topped off by the presentation and skill of the chefs. While pricey, Uchi truly earns its right to charge the prices it does. Wow! Everyone says this place is the best sushi they've had in Miami and I can finally agree. My boyfriend and I did the somakase which was great. You tell your waiter what type of food you like, if you have any preferences, allergies, and range you'd like to spend. For $100 each we got a lot of food and we were actually full. Apparently I can't click more than 5 stars, sorry Uchi fam. Uchi is an extraordinary taste adventure to say the least. Ambiance: 9/10 ONLY because the decor is simple and clean. No frills, no distractions, just a beautiful restaurant doing it's job over and over. Service: 10/10 at all times, with every server I have ever had as well as every bartender and host. I do sit at the bar mostly because I prefer interacting with the bartenders but the few times I've sat at the table, they've been just as wonderful and so very knowledgeable. Whether it's requesting a drink not on the menu, asking for a wine or sake suggestion or asking the bartender to make different drinks each time you order... I rarely order any of the hot dishes there (halibut is done beautifully though) because I go for the sushi but if you're a foodie or you're hungry, try it all! Every sushi piece, every crudo, the oysters, the gyutoro, the fried milk balls...INCREDIBLE. Did I say it was fresh and amazing? No? Okay well, it's beyond fresh and amazing! HAPPY HOUR IS A MUST. Our favorite dishes were off of the happy hour menu. We trusted our waiter completely and asked her for the recommendations. My boyfriend and I love all kinds of flavors so we didn't mind going blindly into it. For drinks we ordered Barley highball, Sapporo, sauvignon blanc and the Uchi G&T. All were good but I really enjoyed the Uchi G&T, its super refreshing with citrusy flavors and the taste of gin isn't overpowering! Not only were the happy hour plates being our favorite flavor wise, the prices were also amazing. we got to eat oysters that are normally $5.50 each for more than 50% off ($2.50) and honestly they're so addicting it could easily add up! Another must have is the pork-belly- my boyfriends favorite. The crispy rice had the best combination of flavors in my opinion and one of the main reasons why i will be back. Also off the happy hour menu we order the walu walu which was easily the best oak wood fish I've had. off to the regular menu i personally only recommend the Gyutoro- melts in your mouth ($12 a piece) this place is not cheap and the worst part is ill pay $12 a piece again. The hama chili, negitoro maki, hamachi makimono nor did bluefin mushroom crudo blow us away like other dishes did. They were good but the standard is definitely high when compared to the dishes from happy hour. One that i would not recommend and it's simply because i never liked this kind of flavor is the foie gras sushi. Ive never been a fan of goose liver but all the plates were so good here that i decided to give it a chance. Its more of the greasy consistency that i cant get past. My boyfriend on the other hand loves pâté and did enjoy it. IF YOU LIKE GOOSE LIVER DONT LET ME HOLD YOU BACK. But if you don't enjoy greasy wobbly fat- just skip. its $12 a piece as well and neither one of us thought it was worth that price point. If theres room for dessert, I recommend the fried milk. Its a good portion size so make sure you have a partner to devour this one! It was unique all while still being nostalgic. Service was incomparable and our waitress Macy was praiseworthy and knowledgeable. Whenever anyone brought us a dish they'll tell us the name and a little detail on how it was cooked or fact about the plate- Something I really enjoyed. One thing that I didn't like and this is not on her but more so on the restaurants policy- they place the bill down the second they place down the dessert. I have been CRAVING Uchi's food ever since I ate there for the first time a few weeks ago! I was in a party of 3 and we were literally having the time of our lives trying everything for the first time. The fish is extremely fresh and the flavors are OUTSTANDING. If you are from LA, NYC or the like and have eaten at the best sushi restaurants in the US/world and love traditional Japanese cuisine this is NOT for you. I knew that it was going to be fusion and it was okay/mid at best. Steer clear of any dish that even slightly veers from traditional Japanese cuisine. We also did omakase and never in my life have I had to order additional items on top of that as we were still very hungry. Service was okay, it wasn't the most attentive. There is not a Japanese person to be seen working in this place- huge red flag right there. If my bill wasn't 700 bucks I'd give this place 3 stars but for 700 dollars you better be just as good as other Japanese restaurants for the same price point. I don't know who lied to this chef but I think this place is horrible. It's obviously doing well though so who am I to judge i guess but id assume most people leaving 5 stars can't be the authentic Japanese cuisine enthusiasts that I am. I feel like people that are enjoying this place are used to Americanized sushi rolls with heavy sauces and funny names like a "Miami Roll" or something of the sort. I would NEVER recommend this to a friend or go again. Also the food is bland and the forced food combinations just don't go together. I'm a very open foodie, eating out most days and living in LA. The restaurants ambiance in Wynwood is low key, with an understated elegance inside due to the sleek design and clean lines. The servers have a great understanding of the menu, Stephanie asked us questions to understand our needs.
