The ambiance was more like a Saturday night with louder music but enough to still hear the person across from you. Of course, with it being Miami, I expected inflated menu prices. Most items on the menu were actually reasonably priced, even for Miami. However, if your most expensive sushi roll is $29, and it's the only roll that comes with 5 pieces instead of 10 pieces, there should most definitely be a mention of that on the menu. While our other friends who ordered literally any other roll got a full size portion, it came as a shock to the table when those who ordered the truffle Maki roll received 5, small pieces. The spicy edamame was pretty good. The sauce wasn't just spicy, but tasty. The miso soup was good as well. For drinks, the espresso martini wasn't out of this world, it just tasted like every other espresso martini you'd get at any bar. Our waiter was pretty good considering we had a large party of 24 people. At first he seemed overwhelmed, but thankfully they were able to recognize that and gave him two extra hands to help with orders, drinks, and water refills. The restaurant aesthetic was cute and had a few nice backdrops for photos. However, good luck using the bathroom. The one women's toilet did not flush and was backed up completely with toilet paper. This forced us to use the one men's bathroom, which was also backed up, but not as bad as the women's. To wash your hands there was a small trickle of water. My daughter and I tried this restaurant on our first night in Miami. Unfortunately, at the time, the World Cup was in Miami, so the restaurant was quite busy. That said, things like edamame and the yellowtail in ponzu were amazing. However, my daughter ordered the tuna tartare, and they chose to use toro, which is an oily/"fishy" fish. And unfortunately, the dish did not use anything to offset the flavor like avocado, or a wonton chip or an onion. We did not care for it. They were happy to take it back and they took it off the bill. I want to add that the manager came to speak with me about this dish and had a frank conversation with me about it, and she was very present and very willing to take my feedback. Stopped by for lunch with my mom and loved that they have a lunch menu for $28, but it's not a meal I would come back for. Miso soup was great. But then I got the salmon tiradito which was bad. it had a passion fruit sauce that congealed probably from sitting in the refrigerator already plated with the salmon. The fish was really cold and sitting in this thick, very sweet passion sauce. Honestly just not good. I left most of it. Then we each got a chirashi. it's a glorified poke bowl as it comes with fish cut in cubes, with nor ginger, wasabi, or fresh flavor. And worst of all, there was truffle. This is my favorite place of all time in Miami. Whenever I go I come to Paperfish. The ambience is incredible with the decoration being super chic and Instagram worthy. Every bite was fantastic--I'm still dreaming about the black cod bites. The torched salmon aburi was truly melt-in-your-mouth, and the hand rolls reminded me so much of KazuNori in NYC. The fish ceviche was also excellent and incredibly fresh. My one downside was the sake situation. We ordered a bottle, only to be told it wasn't available--this happened three separate times before we finally gave up and asked for three glasses of whatever sake they actually had. That felt like a clear miss on the procurement/inventory side. That said, the space itself is very cool. The interior is covered in collage-style artwork, there's a massive faux tree structure in the center of the room, and a projector playing visuals that really adds to the vibe. First time coming to Paperfish and I feel like it was a bit overhyped. I came here with my cousin for a drink and some appetizers and was not impressed by any of it. For starters, we did not see the restaurant until we turned the corner while looking for parking because it looks like it's in an alleyway between other buildings and businesses. We found street parking about half a block away (pay by phone of course). The restaurant does not offer valet and I am unsure if the spaces in front of the restaurant are paid parking or if it's for another business. The restaurant is nicely decorated and the servers were nice and very attentive. They were quick to serve us our drinks and first 2 appetizers, and they cleared the tables quickly when we were done with a dish or drink. However the last appetizer took a bit longer to arrive. Sadly, I was not impressed by the food or drinks, and there was not one thing I ordered that would bring me back to the restaurant. I may have been anticipating coming to this restaurant for so long and expected too much, or maybe the things we ordered are not the things that the restaurant is known for. We came here on a semi busy Friday night for some sushi. We ordered the baby corn, the jalapeño sushi and the Wagyu. I didn't realize that with the wagyu that you basically have to cook it yourself. you have to be quick because the actual hot stove cools off within a few minutes, so it felt a little rushed to eat it since we were sitting outside. I wish we were more about that prior to ordering. The sushi was really good. It was a little bit spicy, but still great. The baby corn was great. It was very unique and very well seasoned. My friends suggested this place for a happy hour on a Friday evening. I got there a little earlier than they did and sat at the bar and was handed the menu for the Miami Spice month. It looked good, but I really wanted to try the happy hour menu my friends spoke of. So I had to ask for it. My friend arrived shortly after and we ordered drinks from it. The drinks not only were delicious, but also very appealing to the eye. The bartender was a little inattentive. She was on her phone for a long time, and genuinely I really don't care, but I clocked it because we were one of the only group sitting there, and there was two of us, and then there was another person sitting by themselves, and we constantly were trying to have to get her attention. However, a second bartender arrived within 15-20 minutes and really turned the night around. We ordered a lot of sushi off the happy hour menu and all of it was amazing. Hidden restaurant in Brickell where everything I ordered was delicious. The torched scallops were like butter. The New York roll was simple but tasty. Finally, the crispy rice was tasteful. I prefer the tuna over salmon! The atmosphere of this restaurant is beautiful and welcoming. In terms of service, they bring food out as you order. I like this as the food is fresh and warm, not sitting on the warming tray until other items are ready. Not pictured is the crispy black truffle fired rice with shrimp. I've been to Paperfish dozens of times since I've moved to Brickell. It's been my go to sushi spot, and have highly recommended it to friends and co-workers to try out (and have previously left 5-star reviews). On Saturday (3/7) we ordered Salmon Furai from Uber Eats, and it arrived with it raw (I wish I had a picture but took it directly in the Uber app for a refund). Never in all our Salmon Furai orders has it been raw, and it is not starred as raw on their menu. I was going to give Paperfish the benefit of the doubt since restaurants can have bad days, but on Sunday (3/8) placed another order for Salmon Furai since we did not get to enjoy Saturdays, and left a comment to please make sure it is cooked. Making sure it is cooked does not mean burning it to a crisp as you can see in the attached photo. I'm not sure if Vida and Estilo is a new food group that bought Paperfish out, but back to back nights with serious food quality issues when I've never previously had an issue is concerning to say the least. Next time, we'll be going to Osaka. read more

Overhyped? The restaurant is a bit hard to find. There are a number of parking lots and valet across the street charging a flat rate of $20. There is a small ramp leading you up to the restaurant which can be easily missed if you don't know what to look for. I had made reservations earlier in the day through Open Table and had to wait a short while to be seated. I had indicated in the reservation that we were coming to celebrate a birthday but none of the staff acknowledged this. The restaurant was busy but not too loud. Despite hearing a lot about the ambiance, I did not think the decor was anything out of this world. Given that this was our first time at the restaurant, we took our time looking over the menu. I felt that the waitress was a bit impatient and wanted us to make up our minds. She never offered any suggestions and when we told her we needed a minute she took that literally and did not seem happy we needed more than the additional 60 seconds she provided. We ordered the crispy rice (2 pieces tuna and 2 pieces salmon), the classic ceviche, Paper Tuna roll, Salmon Furai roll, Spicy Tuna roll, and Hamachi Jalapeño roll. I had indicated to the waitress that we wanted the crispy rice and ceviche to start with the rolls brought afterwards, but the sushi came out before anything else. She then brought out the wrong ceviche and the proper order was not brought out until the end of our meal. Despite these mishaps, the table agreed that the food was good. We felt that the ceviche was a bit small but this may have been due to the kitchen rushing the order out. While the sushi was tasty, there are plenty of other sushi spots around Miami that offer similar rolls. Towards the end of our meal, we secretly asked our waitress to bring out a dessert as a surprise to the birthday guest. She then proceeded to clear the table, bring out spoons, and announce that the dessert would be out shortly. Overall, I would not come here to celebrate a special occasion. The service was disappointing and while the food was good, there wasn't anything unique that would justify coming out to Brickell to eat here again. read more

This place may be one of my favorite happy hours right now! First, a daily happy hour from 4-7 pm, as in yes, even on weekends! Second, you tell me how many happy hours you have found in Brickell on the weekends, much less a happy hour you actually want to go for. The entrance is certainly the most creative one I've walked through, with a replica of a torii (a temple gate) surrounding the staircase up. It was kind of hard to find, despite my putting in the correct address in an Uber. My friend and I had to walk around the block and past Barsecco a couple times before being able to find it. I couldn't even find it and it took a worker in the back of a building, asking if I was looking for the restaurant, and he pointed me towards the entrance. Once you find it, though, it is a treat to be inside. The ceilings are high, and there are cherry blossom replicas decorating the booth ledges to give it a cute Japanese feel. The cocktails are $7.95 each during happy hour and are well crafted. I had a Passion Fruit Martini which had plenty of fresh fruit flavor, without being overly sweet, as well as a Dragon Mule which is a Moscow Mule made with dragon fruit. The purple color of the dragon fruit made an ordinary fresh mule so delightful to drink. We sat at the bar and could see our drinks being carefully made, which explained the great quality of the drinks. The lychee martini was also incredibly great/strong, combining the candy sweetness of puréed lychee with the punch of vodka--- exactly what you want in one. They have sake, white and red wine, and beer for $6.95 during happy hour as well. Pretty amazing pricing for Brickell! The food offerings do not disappoint either. Each happy hour food item is $7.95 and are satisfying to have. We had two orders of the sashimi chef selection, and it came with thick cuts of very fresh akami tuna, hamachi and salmon. We shared a 5 piece roll of the Hamachi Jalapeño which was also fresh and flavorful but not overly dressed, so I could taste the fleshy hamachi inside with the zesty micro greens on the outside. Salmon Nigiri is also offered for four pieces in a dish, and I'm glad we got two orders of them. The sushi rice amount was just right for nigiri, and the salmon was the perfect amount of flesh and fatty that I wanted about 20 more of them. This was a great way to have some wonderful bites and drinks in the start of what turned into a night out in Brickell! I've already told friends about the drinks and menu items, and I'm already thinking about when to go back! You should try it too! read more
