My friends and I visited this restaurant to celebrate a birthday, with a party of 11. While the food and ambiance were largely enjoyable, the experience was marred by service mishaps that left a lasting impression. I personally enjoyed the Bánh Mì Rolland Nigiri Tuna Roll--both were delicious. I could have happily eaten an entire bowl of the fried milk on its own. **Service** Unfortunately, this is where the experience faltered, which was disappointing for a restaurant of this caliber. We arrived on time for our reservation, only to find that the restaurant had miscounted our party size, leaving us two seats short. Given that nothing changed from the time we booked, it was strange that we were initially seated incorrectly. The issue was eventually corrected, with extra chairs and dining ware brought over, but it was an avoidable oversight. Our server was, for the most part, attentive and knowledgeable. He did a great job explaining the menu and checking in throughout the meal. However, the restaurant completely overlooked the fact that we were celebrating a birthday--something we had noted in our reservation. The biggest issue of the night, however, was an unfortunate accident that left three of my friends--including the birthday guest--soaked in spilled cocktails. A manager or supervisor delivering our drinks knocked over about four or five of them, leaving our friends sticky, stained, and smelling like a liquor cabinet for the remainder of the meal. While accidents happen, the restaurant's response felt inadequate. They apologized and provided napkins for cleanup, but no real assistance beyond that. To make up for the mishap, they provided us with two complimentary appetizers worth $45. While the gesture was appreciated, it didn't quite match the inconvenience--the stained clothing alone was likely worth double or triple that amount. To make matters worse, we were still charged for two desserts plus some extra toppings, despite the mishap. Considering they had already forgotten our party size and the birthday celebration, this felt like another oversight in an evening of missteps. While we understand that accidents happen, the response did not feel proportional to the situations of the night. **Ambiance** The restaurant itself is gorgeous. The interior design is sleek, modern, and inviting, making it a perfect setting for a special occasion. Even when the restaurant was busy, it never felt overwhelmingly loud, and conversation flowed easily across the table. However, the men's restroom was a complete sensory assault. It smelled atrocious, like a stale, musty litter box mixed with overpowering ammonia. While the space itself was aesthetically well-designed, the odor completely ruined the experience. Thankfully, the women's restroom was reported to be clean and problem-free, so this seems to be an isolated issue perhaps. **Final Thoughts** While the food and ambiance were strong, the service left much to be desired. Between the seating mishap, forgotten birthday, and the unfortunate cocktail spill, the evening didn't feel as seamless or celebratory as we had hoped. Our favorites were the Bluefin Zuke, unagi, crab curry, The waitress Stephanie and Roy the sushi chef were absolutely amazing! Very attentive and gave spot on recommendations. Although I think every on the menu is likely delicious. Definitely recommend and we'll be back. If you get cold easily bring something light to throw over your arms. I think the high Yelp ratings for this restaurant (4.7 at the time of this review) are mostly for the service and ambiance -- it's a comfy place to hang out, and service was very friendly, welcoming, and attentive. I came here for dinner, and the food quantity in my opinion is lacking. I focused on sashimi -- the sashimi is of high quality, but I would rather have paid more up-front for more food rather than having to keep ordering more food throughout the evening. I ordered two 6-piece orders of sashimi and a veggie and added on two pieces of nigiri. I left not hungry but not full either, because at that point, I had been in the restaurant for over an hour. The fish in the sashimi orders and on top of the nigiri is sliced thin, maybe 1/8 of an inch. As such, the flavors for each type of fish are really mild -- because there's not a lot of meat there! -- to the extent that the sushi chefs have to season the fish with salt, lemon zest, cranberry, etc. in order to give the impression of different flavors. If the fish were sliced thicker, the fish itself would provide enough flavor such that seasoning would not be needed. Highlights of the menu include the eye-opening variety of fish available. If you're into enjoying the tastes of the variety of fish, I suggest asking for no seasoning on the fish and/or paying for two orders and asking for the fish to be cut thicker. read more

Their omakase is priced for two and I came alone, however they adjusted the menu, price, and portions for 1 easily. They also have a happy hour for discounted menu prices! Food came out quickly and it was up to the chef's discretion for what was served. Everything that came out was delicious, high-quality, and I enjoyed all of them a lot. I booked my reservation through Capital One as well and got a free dish for it which was extremely generous. Drinks were also discounted and tasty. We felt really taken care of between consistently having clean plates (we ordered food throughout our stay) to help even ordering food. ALL the food we tasted was delicious, though I could not photograph them all. I'm unable to remember all that I ate, but in addition to the photos attached, we also enjoyed wagyu skewers and the most flavorful lettuce wrap-type meals (I apologize for my lack of better descriptive words). Kai broke down the menu for us and explained the most popular dishes, which we would like based off our own personal preferences, and even gave us free dishes. When I say he was the best, he really was. He recommended the chefs tasting and I do want to try that next time. The food portions are smaller than let's say a sushi chain restaurant in a strip mall, but this is a gourmet experience. I thought the portions and the pricing were completely fair. As for my dishes, I would say they were all delicious. They all had such unique flavors I would have never thought would pair so well. The Hama Chili or the Sake Toro Crudo are my top choices I think. As for the fried milk dessert.... Get it. I usually come to Uchi for the experience, but this time it was the complete opposite. Unfortunately, Roy -- the sushi chef we were seated with -- turned what should have been a special evening into the worst dining experience I've had there. Instead of guiding us through the menu and tastings, he gave us short, dismissive answers. When we asked for recommendations, his response was a smirk and "everything," followed by walking away. His attitude was condescending, unhelpful, and unprofessional. When I stepped away to speak with a manager, his immaturity showed even more as he started joking around and laughing with his friends behind the bar. Dining at Uchi is supposed to be about connection, discovery, and enjoying the artistry of food. Once that energy is ruined, the experience is gone. I asked to be moved away from him, but by then the evening was already soured. It's such a shame, because I've been before and the bar staff has always treated me incredibly well -- truly a "chef's kiss" experience.
