I recently experienced inferior customer service at the UFCU branch on Ben White Blvd. I am not a current member, but as a person who gets paid with a UFCU product, I am treated with less interest and a lack of professionalism. I went in to cash a check drawn on UFCU and waited for over 10 minutes in the branch. I felt isolated with no teller insight and acknowledgment like many other banks. I began to feel restless and finally got the attention of a customer service person, she said that I could go through the drive-through, without even knowing what my situation was, and didn't bother to ask or apologize for the inconvenience. She completely dismissed me. That is completely unacceptable customer service. I politely asked what was taking so long, she replied that there were others before me, however, when I arrived I and another customer were the only two at the windows. I noticed I was still waiting when the other customer left and three more walked up and were helped. I tried using the call button and that little phone receiver on the wall and there was no answer. By this time I became irritated and the customer service person was insistent, that I go through the drive-through. I was finally acknowledged by a teller who was unapologetic for the wait and was not friendly. She cashed my check and that was that. As I was leaving, a gentleman asked me if I had trouble. I said that I have never experienced such a long wait, lack of empathy and an unapologetic customer service and for those reasons I choose not to bank at their financial institution, If I could give them less Stars, I would. read more

I recently used the Brodie drive-thru ATM to deposit a check in my account at UFCU. Unfortunately, I forgot to take my ATM card. While I realized this as I pulled away, by the time I circled back to the ATM, it had taken my card. While I understand the ATM action being a security mechanism, I don't understand the actions of the employees...   Since it was just before operating hours and I had seen numerous people entering the branch to work - I pulled over to a drive-thru lane and pressed the call button (a couple times) - I was ignored. I might expect this discourteous behavior from a bank but this should not occur at credit unions that are after-all member owned. read more

I adore my credit union. I've been to several places and the service here exceeds my expectations. It's very easy to open new accounts and their online banking system is easy to navigate. This office is always clean and the staff is helpful and friendly. You can open a business account with just your ID and DBA. Also, the business account has no monthly fees which is a huge plus for me. read more

I've been with UFCU for 10 years and never had any trouble. But what a nightmare I was in today, when I had to report a fraudulent credit card transaction! Their automatic phone system does not make reporting fraud easy. There's not an option on their phone menu for fraudulent transactions. I had to go through the menu three times -- once through the credit card section and twice through individual accounts -- before I got someone who I could tell my story to. I had to verify my identity several times over. The automated system gave me such a tremendous runaround that I considered interrupting my day, leaving my kids, and jumping in the car to go down there and talk to a live person. When I finally got to someone, the representative talked about disputing the "transaction" -- but didn't even address how we could prevent this from happening again! I had to push him to get the card cancelled. Honestly, reporting fraud should be a one-button transaction -- but even if there are several buttons, there should be a clearly marked pathway. This experience has me rethinking having my account with UFCU. read more

my relationship with UFCU seems to continue its strained form. after all the issues i've had over the last couple of years at various branches, i was pleasantly surprised with Veronica reached out to me directly to better understand some of my frustrations. it was an extended conversation, and i was glad to heat that UFCU didn't just make excuses, but acknowledged some issues and followed up on some of the issues. fast forward a few weeks and i'm pleased that none of my deposits have been entered into the wrong accounts; however, i continue to have issues with making deposits. today i tried to make a $960 cash deposit at the Brodie drive through ATM and again, the machine did not work (was not accepting cash deposits).... so a 3 minute deposit resulted in 10 minutes as i drove around and parked, walked in, filled out a deposit form, waited for a teller and finally made the deposit. its not a huge deal, but time after time, they seem to have problems with their technology. read more

This isn't a review for this location as much as it is for the company. I do go to this location the most and have nothing but positive experiences there. UFCU goes above and beyond in every possible way with low rates and no outrageous fees. I can't imagine ever using a mutli-national bank again. I appreciate the personal touch and the ability to resolve issues on the phone within seconds. I had a negative encounter at this ATM once in which I did a withdrawal and no money came out. It was instantly unnerving but a quick phone call and I was assured that the money was not deducted from my account and it was just a machine error. I read up about this bank and wanted to switch from Capital One because I didn't like the lack of branches and think the whole café thing is dumb. I decided to go on a Saturday at 11 am to open a bank account. We signed in and 30 minutes later none of the people that were with the bank employees had left and none of the people that were in there before us had been helped yet. We ended up walking out and opened a bank account elsewhere. Those video tellers were awful. We could over hear a conversation between a woman and the teller. The woman had a heavy accent and kept telling the teller what she wanted saying "no, I want to do this with my business account". After almost 10 minutes of the teller not understanding she finally came out face to face with the woman. Why didn't they do this sooner?! They had run out of chairs inside so people were standing everywhere, including right in front of the door only door. No one came over there to sort of organize them so as people were coming in they were walking into a wall of people and those leaving were having to weave through people. Seriously no organization in there. If you're looking for a bank that does things efficiently then I doubt you want to bank here. read more

Been a member for over 20 yrs. This location has drive-thru tellers and ATM; outside walk-up ATM, inside tellers, and financial folks. When you arrive in need of a "financial consultant," be sure to sign in to get in the queue. Then sit and wait until you're called. If you walk inside for a teller, just go to the teller areas (I've never experienced a wait inside for a teller). In my 3 experiences of requiring a financial consultant, my average wait was 10-15 minutes. FYI, these experiences were to see a clerk for: getting a new card (debit/VISA), establishing my kid's bank account, and for a notary (free with membership/account with UFCU). Shortest wait: 5 mins; longest wait: 20 mins. Regarding UFCU's free financial advisors: I'm more than disappointed with our experiences at this branch. I know UFCU has awesome financial advisors, but this branch hasn't delivered "squat" in our past 2 visits consulting with them. You apparently need a name/extension of a UFCU good advisor, or you need to go to the UFCU branch at Steck to get one. I wondered "Why?" Before going/ahead of time, I was told the branch consultant would be able to handle our queries. Trusted this, but seriously disappointed - not cool. Saying this as of now: Either the Steck location or a name is the only way to go for more important financial advice. At the same time, I do have a "beef" with UFCU - and it's a situation that wasn't settled appropriately at the Steck Ln branch in 2004: Husband accepted (unknowingly) a scam offer that resulted in our bank accounts being wiped clean. At that time and since each of the accounts in question had less than $5k in them, UFCU stated they wouldn't do anything about it ($ too small for their concern). This was regardless of the fact that the security guy stated that these "scams" occur every month (under $5k/account). When I asked how $5k/concern added up to make a concern, I got no response. I can only guess that this security guy has been fired/moved on. At that time, it really messed us up with no support/recourse. Yet, having divulged past personal mishaps with UFCU and knowing their improvements, we still have an account with them. I'm not out to "dog" UFCU, but rather to inform you of what/where UFCU can help/what to expect from Brodie/Slaughter Ln location! read more

I may be biased, because I came from Wells Fargo and moved everything over here. But, dang am I glad I did. I'm not getting hidden fees, I'm not getting my debits "re-ordered for convenience" and the website is easy to use(which is really where I do all my banking anyway). The only time I had to go to a branch? They refinanced my auto loan at half the previous interest rate. While there, they mentioned that I could apply for a line of credit from them, but instead of rushing me up to get one-advised me to wait a couple months. Maybe I'm naive to think they care about my best interests over their own short term gain, but that's certainly the impression I got. I would NEVER get this feeling from a big bank, and that's why I'd never go back to one. read more

I love UFCU. I will not lie. From my interest bearing checking account, to the (ridiculously) low interest unsecured line of credit they extended me, I have been very happy. They are quick to approve and slow to deny, and the staff is friendly, helpful, and genuinely interested in helping you. The video tellers that people mention primarily happened because this location used to be the most robbed bank in Texas. The CU felt that if the thief couldn't get to the tellers, there was nothing to steal. And while I understand this, I do dislike it a bit; it seems that the service is slower inside than it is in the drive-through. Of course, I don't really care. I rarely ever visit the bank in person, and when I do, I am usually just making a deposit via the drive through window. And this is where UFCU shines - their website is fantastic. Quick and easy to use with REAL functionality. Coming from Compass, whose website is a barely legible check register and nothing more, this was a revelation. I can transfer between my accounts (and I have checking, savings, special savings, a line of credit, and a loan) repeatedly and easily with a few clicks. Send money (or receive it) from another UFCU account? Easy as clicking Transfer.. To Another Account. I can withdraw from my savings account to a check ONLINE - I fill in the fields, and I'm mailed a check. The interface also has automatic bill pay available, although I don't use it. I pay my bills online, but I do not allow auto-debits from my account. I do with there was slightly better mobile interface - ie, one at all - but I think they're working on that. I can still check my account from my iPhone, it's just not optimized for it. In short, UFCU is what a bank should be. Yes, they're a bank, and sometimes they say no when you want to hear yes. They still charge fees, but the fees are reasonable and rare. Their service is prompt, courteous, and friendly. And really, what more can you ask for? read more

This bank just flat out sucks. Me and my husband have been banking with them for a year and its been nothing but problems. They freeze our card for literally everything. We told them we were going out of town (so dont freeze our card!) They put "travel notes" so they wouldnt freeze our cards, if they had an reason to freeze the cards they would call or text first. They ended up freezing our cards with out a call or a text while we were out of town. Good thing we were with family! We got back to texas and they froze our cards AGAIN!! i apperciate them keeping track of our money but they dont call nor text BEFORE they freeze the damn card. They also are quick to freeze the card but when i check our account there has been 200 dollars taken out of the account! Thwy didnt see that and call? I had to call. They had to cancel the card. Send us a new one. This has happened more times then i can count. DO NOT BANK WITH THIS BANK!!! THEY SUCK! read more

UFCU completely shattered that philosophy and showed me how banking really should be. Joseph Woodruff at the campus location is an incredibly helpful, straightforward and personable banker, he gets back to you promptly and offers every piece of knowledge he has about auto loans, home buying or just basic financial advice. When my credit was upgraded from OK to excellent, a UFCU banker called to notify me of the upgrade and to congratulate me on my success. When I wanted to buy a home, they were right there with honest information, free seminars and personal advice about my capabilities. UFCU is professional, friendly and honest banking for hard working people and they work hard to earn your trust. Wow.. never have I ever experienced such a rude employee at a UFCU. Tried to cash a larger check and make it immediately available. I have done this plenty of times and was never a issue. I was told to go fill out a deposit slip and go to the video banking thing... I didn't fill out a deposit slip because I didn't know my acct number. I then had to go back and talk to the guy who argued with me that he couldn't release the funds. I told him I have done it before, it wasn't a problem. Asked what I needed it for. I said because I need it. I shouldn't have to give him any sort of reason. When I said because I need them released, he said demanded to know why, or he couldn't release the funds. I said for a purchase, he said purchase of what. At this point I said that's none of your business, release the funds. Over all, no wonder you don't have a desk.. prob won't make it to one. read more

We use UFCU for everything. Basic checking and savings accounts for personal and business use, and they have also financed our house, business and cars, AND we have purchased homeowners' insurance through them. I always feel like UFCU is looking out for me. The rates are always the most competitive I find (for a comparable type of lender), and customer service is incredible. You dial their local number or stop in at a local branch, and there is a smiling, helpful human there to answer your question. I've gotten notary service without a wait. The insurance guy answers my questions without impatience or judgment. The business lending department has seen some upheaval, and that has impacted customer service. But that doesn't apply to most folks reading this review. For consumer services like banking and loans, nobody beats UFCU. It seems stupid to love your bank, but I really am a big fan. read more

What a Mickey Mouse operation. Wait in line or go inside, either way you get to see someone behind a tv screen. Good luck in the drive through. A simple deposit took a half hour. That's no exaggeration. My wife is visually impaired and we use this bank as a last resort. After sending my deposit in the teller sends me a message saying they are "backed up""...and as I watch cats that have come after me actually leave the girl disappears. Talked to the manager but am so upset at this moment I'm escalating to their executive team..,,,, I'm closing this account. A bank run by immature kids. read more

Service here was the service I dread, as I inched up my plain-Jane little grey car up to the teller chute and pressed 'send.' Not even masks could hide the get-em-in-and-get-em-out culture I got at the UFCU drive thru today. The tellers were task-oriented to a fault, cutting me off after every one of my questions with that lovely screensaver they put up when they go ask someone how to properly show you the door. I spoke to two tellers and a manager today and not one of them said hello or gave me their name, unsolicited. 4:30pm. They were checked-out big-time, one foot out the door. Hospitality has left the building like a Randall's plastic bag floating off in the howling wind. I went in today to withdraw money from a "savings account" that I was required to open to start a motorcycle loan application. This was the summer of 2018. Because it was a savings account, I never thought anything of it. Forgot about it. It's in savings, right? like an acorn in the ground, growing day by day, just doing everything it can to become a big oak tree. Savings accounts at every banking institution I know of, accrue interest, or am I wrong? So, I didn't think anything would be amiss here. Turns out, they still require "activity," (under parameters they set, of course) for a savings account. Not checking, mind you, but savings. Without activity, a $5 charge ensues monthly. So the very small amount I had deposited was now entirely consumed by their fee structure. This, of course, is an intentional revenue stream. Reminds me of Blockbuster Video. Remember that place? They made more on fees than the product and service. We deposited a small amount of money, so it wasn't a big deal, and I was already expecting the hollow, matter-of-fact explanations I got today. I must add that UFCU never sent my wife or I any written correspondence, e-mail statements, or alerts, etc that we are aware of. Should we have inquired? Yeah. But we are not the service provider. We're the client. The manager today, Sarah, claims they did, but I do not believe her. She appeared on the video today with the flattest demeanor and deadpan tone, reciting UFCU protocol with perfect legalese without any noticeable empathy. It's 4:30pm, remember. It's just my little insignificant sum of money from soooo long ago. Remember, no hello. No name. No "I understand." No courtesy, really. No doubt the glaze over her eyes and blank expression was due to defending their peek-a-boo, unscrupulous fee structure, day after day (in my opinion). I only go by what I see. I'm just a regular ole customer, in a plain Jane car, with a trivial little savings account. On to the next customer, please! I didn't really get upset today. I was actually pleased that they gave it to me straight. It'll cost you a fee to open a "Savings" account, and if you don't use it under their parameters of use, (business-driven, remember, not customer-driven), they will take it from you, bit by bit, and look into the camera blankly, shrug their shoulders, and tell you, hey, it was there all along, in the fine print. Apathy is alive and well! But it's not their fault. It's built in to the way they do business. Requiring customer reps to defend unreasonable fee practices creates the kind of interactions I had today. Not their fault. Glad it happened, though. United Heritage Credit Union across the street approved my motorcycle loan last year, at a wonderful rate without sneaking anything by me, and they show me customer advocacy day after day with every transaction, earning my trust. I was invited in and offered my first major loan from this bank which was for an Auto. The loan officer directed me to come up with income that I did not have and subsequently ushered me into a loan that was fraudulent and ill-advised. The bank has since removed a closed auto account that was paid in full for my credit and left a bad mark for one that wasn't, Related to the fraudulent loan. Unscrupulous fraudulent and unprofessional, In my instance at least. read more

At the moment I'm a totally frustrated member. It is end of July and the banking center is closed. The website indicated said the location on MoPac & 71 is open. I go there and IT IS CLOSED! Now the website shows that the mobile banking is "is experiencing intermittent technical issues". Taco Bell & McDonald workers can figure out how to wash their hands, sanitize their location and wear a mask but I can't even use a drive thru teller at a BANK????? Stick to the national banks. At least they are on every corner and they are still open. SUPER annoyed and frustrated! read more

Mobile banking app has been utterly broken for three months and counting. There's no reason for this at this point other than extreme technical incompetence. I could not be more satisfied with UFCU. I'm spending a semester in Belgium and went to my hoity toity bank this morning to ask about fees for using my debit card abroad. I was told the fees would break down as follows: $5 every time I withdraw from an ATM plus any additional fees the ATM charges me. 3% of the purchase or $5, whichever amount is greater, for every transaction using the card in sales. My jaw just about hit the floor but the lady told me the ATM fee was the only one we could really do anything about and she could only ask and HOPE that her manager approved waiving the fees for the first 3 withdrawals. She also told me that the 3% fees were dictated by Visa and that no other bank or CU would be able to offer me anything better. Well I marched on over to UFCU and that withdrawal fee went from $5 to $1 and miraculously (even though the debit card is still chase) my transaction fees dropped to 1%...funny, didn't that woman say no other institution would be able to offer me a better deal? Anyways, it was an overall great experience. The building is bright, perfect temperature inside, the workers are chatty and friendly without being pushy and they actually act like real people! I've had a horrible, ongoing experience obtaining an auto loan through Vicki Kempton and Pamela Kindred. I purchased a vehicle at the end of July and haven't received my license plates due to the fact that the title transfer paperwork was not sent in until a whole month after the purchase. The only reason this upsets me is due to the fact that Vicki sent me emails saying the DMV is 2 weeks behind...not because she didn't send the paperwork in. Love the bank and all of their employees, but steer clear of Vicki and Pamela. read more

We were assisted by David Kies, who stayed with us 45 minutes past closing time to get my accounts set up, and he was totally pleasant and friendly the entire time. It always seems like issues with your debit card pop up when all the branches are closed and their customer service number is offline. They are big enough to have 24 hour support....in short, only use UFCU if you only plan to use your debit card during normal banking hours. read more
