Just went there with my wife that is in an arm sling after rotator cuff surgery. They went to seat us by the kitchen. It's not busy and I asked to be seated in a less high traffic area. Do I didn't need to worry about anyone bumping into her arm. The young lady said she needed to speak with her manager. She came back and to my surprise she came back and didn't say anything but "NO". Why wife asked why. She said something about double tables. At that point I shut down. And started walking out. The young lady grabbed the menus and walked back to her desk in a huff. First time checking this place out, my friends and I really enjoyed it! The string beans were cooked very well, yummy and healthy. The sampler dumplings were so tasty and pretty. The crystal shrimp dumplings were small but packed with flavor and the texture was on point. The orange chicken was soft and moist on the inside, crispy on the outside, with just the right amount of sauce. The noodles with beef were okay. Service was good. The decor was cute. Dishes like the Chicken and Broccoli lacked flavor, likely due to the insufficient amount of sauce. The lo mein noodles were notably poor. The only redeeming dish was the Sweet and Sour Chicken. Along with two out of the three dishes we ordered missing the mark we also received only one soy sauce packet for three meals. I don't normally leave negative reviews, but our experience at, The Ugly Dumpling in Newark Delaware, was too upsetting to ignore. My husband and I were seated and waited patiently, but not a single server came to our table. What made it worse--and frankly, offensive--was that every table around us received prompt service. Multiple staff members made eye contact with us, only to turn and walk away without a word. I was wearing a "Back the Blue" T-shirt with a thin blue line flag on it, and I can't help but feel that this may have played a role in the way we were treated. If that's the case, it's deeply disappointing. No one should feel unwelcome or discriminated against based on what they wear or their Profession. We ended up walking out without ever being acknowledged. It was humiliating and left us feeling completely disrespected. I hope the management takes this seriously and trains their staff to treat all customers with basic decency and professionalism, regardless of personal opinions. read more

Food was very good! We tried a couple of different dishes and all were enjoyed. Service was excellent and friendly. Tori the manager was so friendly and nice. She came over to our table and checked in with us. You can tell she really enjoys working there. She even remembered my daughter from the time she was there with her friends. We will be back. My husband and I went for dinner and most of the food was very delicious, but the Rangoon had zero crab in it so I definitely recommend not ordering that. The service was very good even though they messed up one of our dishes, we both still had a good time! The music is not great, and maybe was the reason for the misunderstanding of our order, with it being on the louder side. But with all of this to say, it was a nice evening, just a couple hiccups. Seriously how hard would it be to just run to the nearest Asian market and buy some decent dumpling wraps? If we are in a race to the bottom when it comes to Chinese food in America, which seems apparent, then this place is helping to lead the charge. While the dumplings were just "not good" it went down hill from there. The spring rolls and noodles tied for the least edible. Most disturbing is the rise of these type of Chinese food franchises filing the gap left behind by a decline of local independents that were always westernized and a little greasy even by Shanghai standards, but much better than this. Two stars based on the fact that the food tasted good and the restaurant itself was pretty, but half the menu was not available and the bartender (Lenny working the evening of Saturday, 6/29) was unwilling to make several drinks. The drinks he DID make he made wrong (ordered 1 Lychee and 1 Berry Lychee, he made 2 Berry Lychees and both drinks had floating debri) and was unwilling to make the correct drinks. The entire experience was terrible. At some point our waiter did speak to the manager about making one of our drinks and she made it herself since the bartender had disappeared per the wait staff. She made no attempt to speak to our table or try to better our experience. I would not recommend this restaurant for a dine in experience to anyone. read more

Food exceptional in taste and presentation. The manager, Tori, elevated our experience even more; she was personable, knowledgeable about the food and the restaurant, you could tell she had good relationship with staff, and enjoyed interacting with customers, and ensuring great dining experience. The service provided to me & my family was terrible it made our experience horrible. I'm very disappointed because I was looking forward to eating here although the food was good many things were not available to order. We also had a terrible time ordering drinks the bartender i believe his name was Lenny was upset because he gave me the wrong drink to begin with and also left during his shift and server came back to tell us that they could not find him anywhere that is ridiculous. The waiter then proceeded to taking our drink thinking he was going to correct them but instead they just didn't bring us drinks at all. To begin everything they had us seated for about 20 minutes with no acknowledgment at all or no waiter until we spoke up. Manager didn't even seem to care about the whole situation was giggling the whole time at the bar with bartender so honestly very very poor job from Ugly Dumpling. Bad just bad. I took my daughters here to eat here because of a tilt they've found. Stop trusting TikTok! My daughters are vegan. We ordered vegan fried rice. They have chicken fried rice. My daughter asked what the white chicken was. And the server and manager both lied and said " cauliflower" but when my husband's chicken fried rice came. It looked the exact SAME AS THE "VEGETABLE FRIED RICE" my husband tries the scraps of my daughter's rice. And confirmed it was chicken. Not only that, but the vegetable fried rice is less expensive than the chicken fried rice. So when we got the bill it was over our budget. And the manger Chris decided to argue with our family. And threatened to call the cops if we refused to pay something we didn't order! Not to mention the chicken was white at a veneer set. It was disgusting. I was absolutely disturbed by the service of this gen Z restaurant. I rather eat at the Ed Debbie's restaurant and get treated horribly by Karen's.
