Not sure what is going on with the offices currently (May 2023). It took me a week to reach someone at the Laurel office only to be told they no longer do cleanings at this location. I call the crofton location and they tell me they arent taking appointments until June 1st, 2023 for appointments starting in July 2023. My daughter had a 3:30 appt as a first time patient and arrived for her appt at 3:10. She was still waiting to be taken back at 4:20 pm. While sitting in the waiting room for an hour she saw patients with 3:30 and 4:00 appts be taken back. If you are running late you should explain that to the patient. That is customer service 101. She was taken back at 4:22 pm. This is not a great impression for a first time patient. In addition her cleaning and X-rays took all of about 10 minutes total. I can't imagine a full cleaning was done. Also you can't make your normal 6 month appt when you are done. The furthest out you can schedule is 4 months. What dental insurance allows cleanings every 4 months. read more

The office is well spaced out and clean and the staff professional - don't let it's location in a strip mall throw you off. The staff were courteous, pleasant and competent. But I would say, perhaps because of Covad, that the dental exam and cleaning were on the "lite" side. I was charged for special panoramic x-rays but they didn't even take a full shot of my entire mouth, nor did they do a true panoramic sequence (I've had the panoramic with other dentists so I know the difference). The cleaning was fast, very basic and the exam cursory -- they did not do the usual detailed check on the attachment strength of my fillings, etc. (where they take an instrument and try to jiggle the filling), or check the spacing between the teeth, etc. etc. So I would say that while there wasn't anything wrong, per se, that the level/thoroughness of the care could have been better. I would say that if you have good insurance, choose a better dental practice, but if you are uninsured or under-insured, this practice would be among the best options. read more

This location is fine. It's a dentist office. Yes there is some turnover I have noticed but I go twice a year to get my teeth checked/cleaned not to date and form a lasting bond with a hygentist. Although there is a really sweet front desk lady these days. She has this Adele vibe that I dig...but I digress. Did you ever notice that people that give one star reviews tend to not be very happy with much. Go check their profile and you generally (always exceptions) don't see a nice bell curve in their reviews. They either love something or hate it...or often, hate "everything". Interesting, that. Could they be a little more crisp in their "excecution" of moving patients around/matching appt. times- sure. But I don't think they are significantly worse than any other place I have been to. read more

I love this dentist office. I would not trust any other people with my teeth. Luckily for me, my insurance also covers me here with the plan I have so that is a huge bonus. My appointments are always on time and they always try to get me in and out as quickly as possible. I recently just had a procedure done over the weekend and they made me feel so comfortable and relaxed. If you are looking for a dentist, I highly recommend this place. They are conveniently located and the people are so sweet and so helpful. I can't tell you what a relief it is to have a dentist office where they run on time. I don't even know where to begin with how disappointed I was with my visit today. The only pleasant thing about the office is the receptionist. She was very kind and managed to get an appointment for me on the same day as a new patient in an emergent situation, which I know is almost impossible in many offices. I get called back to the x-ray room, without the individual introducing herself. She was constantly coughing without covering her mouth (she should have worn a mask). She took the x-ray and about ten minutes later, the dentist walked into the room - with a mask and gloves already on and started asking me the nature of my visit. Again, I had no idea who he was because he did not introduce himself. As a medical professional myself, with experience in a hospital and private practice settings, to walk into a room, masked and gloved up is not only VERY unprofessional, but very unsanitary. Eventually, he removed both protective gear and washed up. He proceeded with the assessment of my cavity and determined I would need a root canal. The very next thing he spoke about were prices and payments. From that point, I knew his and the rest of the practice's main concern - $$$. Immediately after the dentist said payment, he already had an itemized bill with how much the procedure would cost. I thanked him for his time and then walked up to the front desk and told the receptionist that I will not proceed with the recommended procedure, due to the unprofessional practices that were observed. I definitely will not be coming back and do not recommend anyone else to set foot in this office. read more

Where to start? I've been with Ulery for several years, and they were fine until I started having serious problems. The receptionist, Ruby, is lovely and always very sweet and helpful, and the hygenist is great- very gentle, very supportive, and very thorough. Unfortunately, as soon as I needed something more than a filling, it was all downhill. I have a history of dental problems, partially genetic (bad teeth run in the family) and partially due to the fact my family didn't have dental insurance, and then had bad insurance, when I was growing up. So I have lots of large silver fillings (which i am told probably should have been crowns.) The dentist comes off pretty judgmental, and not especially helpful. In one situation where I had a deep cavity under an existing filling, he said he could either fill it, which might not work, or I could get a root canal. Visibly upset, I asked which he thought was better and he said "it's up to you." I asked which he would do and he said "I wouldn't have gotten the cavity in the first place." Thanks a lot. On top of that, there's no oral surgeon in their office, they had to send me to the Crofton location for root canals, and he is only there a couple of days a week. I warned him I'm kind of a baby about needles but will be ok for the rest of the procedure. He finished giving me the needle (in the roof of my mouth- ugh) and he basically told me I wasn't kidding about being a baby. Also he evidently thought I was a drug-seeker, because when I told him Vicodin makes me ill and doesn't work for me, he gave me the same thing under a different brand name. I've just changed dentists because I've had two broken teeth for several months, and have been putting off dealing with these people again. For an office whose motto is "we cater to cowards," you'll find an awful lot of unkind, unhelpful, and judgey people there. Save yourself the trouble and go somewhere else. read more

I've had at least 2 cleanings at Ulery and have been very happy with their services. I go every six months per my health insurance. They are very good and make me feel comfortable before and during the procedure. (I do well at dentists however, so if you're more sensitive or nervous, I can't say it would be the same.) My only recommendation for them would be, as it would be for all medical offices, to promptly get the patient in at their appointment time, rather than make them wait. I also was once scheduled on a day when they were actually closed (they are only open 3-4 days a week), so reconfirm your appointment the day before. read more

I have been a patient at Ulery Dental in Crofton for over a dozen years. I love how personable their entire team is, very friendly and their service is great. I broke a tooth this last weekend , called the emergency number and Dr. Ulery called me back within the hour. They had me come in on Monday at 8:00 am and by 10:30. I had a temporary and a crown was on order. They take my insurance so the price was very reasonable too..They know their patients and take great care of them. I highly recommend them. read more

Dr. Ulery is fast and friendly. His whole staff works well to make the appointment go smoothly. I have been a patient for years.

I went to this office for years, and then I got lazy and procrastinated making an appointment. Eventually, I went to another dentist on a friend's advice, who said I needed tons of (expensive) work, so I returned to Ulery for a second opinion. They were able to get me in same-day, and instead of saying I needed three crowns and half a dozen fillings, the dentist said I just needed one filling and suggested a second one as optional. He even had a good explanation for the minor pain I'd been feeling since the cleaning at the other dentist. There are two reasons why I gave 4 stars instead of 5, based on my previous experiences with them: 1) There's a lot of staff turnover. In the ~5 I was going to them, I think I saw the same dentist only twice. They seem to be a starter job for new dentists until they move on to their own practice. That said, I haven't had any problems with their work, so that indicates a good company culture (i.e. not trying to rip you off) 2) Part of the reason why I went so long without going was because I wasn't able to schedule the next appointment while there and they didn't send out postcards or anything, so it was easy to forget. This might've improved by now, though. read more

I choose this place because it was a dentist and ortho in one- so I could hit up both in one day. Long story short, stay away from this place. The staff was unprofessional and uneducated. I asked to speak to the office manager and she told me there was nothing she could do about my problem because she isn't sure who worked the day my appointment was scheduled (even after giving her the exact time and date I called to schedule my appointment). The waiting room was nasty. The chairs had stains on it- it just felt outdated. After taking off work, I left without being seen. If the checking in and scheduling experience was horrible I can't even imagine what the actual dental service would be like. read more

I used Ulrey for five years. The dentists are competent and my dental work has been painless. But over time, the front office staff in Laurel/Bowie and the appointment availability has slipped. It's no longer worth the hassle of dealing with them to get access to the dentists. It took three calls to get an appointment to fill my daughter's cavity. I called on a Saturday morning. They're in the office, but can't take appointments. I called on a Thursday at 4:52. That's another time they don't make appointments. Finally got someone on a Monday at 11 a.m. who was willing to make an appointment. Except she couldn't hear me even though I was calling from a land line at the office. Fourth call was the charm, finally able to make an appointment, but have to take time off from work because they don't fill cavities on Saturday. Looking online now to find a new dentist in our insurance plan. read more

I'm glad I didn't go off the Yelp reviews before visiting this place. I really enjoyed my visit. I was referred here by a friend because I needed an emergency appointment. The receptionist Louise is a sweetheart. The dental assistants were really nice and very understanding of my fears. Dr. Jacob Mix was my dentist and he was knowledgeable and made sure I would be comfortable with my procedure. I plan to make this my home dentist. read more

This practice is frustrating. My first appointment was great. The second I came in and just had a cleaning. I was then told that I only see the dentist once a year. I was having trouble that I put off until this visit, not knowing I wouldn't be seeing a dentist so had to make another appointment. You can't make your next appointment when you are there; they don't schedule out that far. Then when you get the reminder card they are booked 6-8 weeks out. Today the dentist was out sick, which is allowed, but instead of calling me ahead of time to reschedule or having another dentist available they offered a partial exam or reschedule. Also, annoying to fill out patient form every year. Just ask for changes or give me a print out to initial instead of a blank form. I'll be looking for a new dentist after today. read more

I like the dental side of the business, which is why they get the two stars. I find the staff very professional and helpful. The orthodontist side and staff are less impressive. They rarely answer the phones, and when they do, they're rude. If you leave a message requesting a call back, they don't call. One day, my daughter arrived there for an ortho FU, which Ulery called and confirmed just two days prior. But when she arrived, they didn't have her appointment in the system. When my daughter called to tell me what was happening, I asked to speak to the young lady at the front desk about the mix-up. I would like to give Dr. Scott Ulery's office in Laurel, MD a big shout out. The location is very convenient with plenty of parking. The front desk staff are super friendly and are working with me financially to make sure that I can afford the dental work that I need. The office is large, clean and the equipment is up to date. The dentists are professional and consult with each other to make sure that the correct procedures are performed. I am a chicken when I have to go to the dentist, but i am comfortable at this office. I am recommending this office to my family and friends. Try it out for yourself and you will understand my recommendation. read more

I just had an appointment there today. When I booked it weeks ago they never asked for my insurance info. My appt was for 1pm. I showed up 5-10 minutes early but then waited until almost 2pm to be called back-apparently because they had to verify my insurance. I watched half a dozen people come in and go back before I was called back. I booked the appointment to get my teeth cleaned- as I do every 6 months like clock work. I just moved here so that's why I had to find a new dentist. I have moved around a lot and always have called and booked a cleaning. Not here. They made me see the dentist first and then the hygienist. Every other place the dentist checks the X-rays and your teeth after they are cleaned. I was taken back by tech who never told me her name or what her position was. I finally had to ask. She took some X-rays and then the dentist saw me. Dentist was really nice. I had to use the restroom after seeing the dentist so when I was done the tech told me to go into another room- for the hygienist. I sat down and she continued to get her Instruments ready. She started moving my chair down w/o telling me and she Never asked my name or introduced herself. Before she asked me to open up I finally said 'this is my first time here. I'm Robin.' She finally told me her name and that it was nice to meet me. She was nice but the cleaning in the end was the most painful experience I have ever had. She used some kind of water blasting thing- I've never had that done- and it hurt so bad I almost cried. I have always enjoyed going to the dentist but this was bad. The cleaning felt rushed and I didn't get to pick out my flavors and she didn't explain what she was doing. I think this is a place where people pay out of pocket... I had to 'share' a room while getting my X-rays. The only good thing I can say was the ortho consult I had- they were able to squeeze me in today without me asking. The orthodontist was pleasant and informative. Overall it was a bad experience. I won't be going back. read more

Fabulous service!! The staff is absolutely marvelous! Everyone is so kind and welcoming. Dr. Reza always gives wonderful service and great attention towards us. My son had a very difficult case with his impacted tooth. Dr. Reza connected us with an experienced surgeon and they collaborated on treatments for my son. Dr. Reza always devoted a lot of attention towards our case and because of his great job, three permanent teeth was saved! We are exceedingly appreciated for his work and everything was done perfectly! I greatly recommend his services and this dentistry!! read more

If you are use to going to a dental office that is friendly, courteous & clean DO NOT GO TO THEIR LAUREL OFFICE! Search elsewhere for a better dental office with more than just 2.5 stars! There are plenty of good ones around to choose from. This place not only doesn't keep their patient's set appointment times, they are also not gentle with the cleanings. I can't tell you all how many times their hygienist made me jump in my chair of pain each time she'd hit a nerve! Not only did I have to wait 45 minutes to be seen, but when I was done with everything including x-rays, the dentist had the audacity to say & I quote him "so what keeps you here?" I turned around & said, "I don't know, you tell me? I've been waiting for my x-rays to be reviewed sitting in this chair for quite some time now. All he said was, yes I know and I am sorry. We have several issues in this office that need to be addressed. I couldn't believe his comment as well as his response! I was dumbfounded! My final comment to him was, well I believe I won't be coming here again for many reasons. So today I did just that, I asked for my dental records to be transferred to a dental office that had 4.5 stars on Yelp. I am hoping to have a much better experience at the new place. We'll see. To be honest, in my 30+ years of being seen by multiple dentists at different dental offices around the nation, I have never experienced one as bad as Ulery Dental Office in Laurel, MD!
